TL;DR
- The Sword of Starlight is a Damiane-exclusive one-handed sword added in patch 1.04.00.
- You cannot buy, drop, or craft it. It is a quest reward only.
- Start the What the Stars Left Behind questline at the Scholastone Institute in Hernand to get the Constellation Helm.
- Use the helm to observe all 13 Constellations across Pywel.
- This unlocks the 10th Scholastone quest, The Maps of the Night Unveiled, and then the final quest Where Starlight Converges.
- Collect the sword at the Jijeong Temple Pagoda, south of Demeniss in Serpent’s Marsh, while playing as Damiane.
- At max refinement (+10) it has 27 Attack and the only Stamina Siphon Lv 2 Abyss Gear in the game.
The Sword of Starlight in Crimson Desert is one of the more unusual weapon unlocks in the game. There is no boss to kill and no dungeon to clear. Instead, you earn this blade by hunting constellations across the entire world map, completing a faction questline at the Scholastone Institute in Hernand, and finishing it all off with a Damiane-exclusive story moment at a temple in Serpent’s Marsh.
It is a long process, but the reward includes the only Stamina Siphon Lv 2 Abyss Gear currently in the game, which makes it worth pursuing even if you do not plan to use the sword directly. Here is the full walkthrough.
Prerequisites Before You Start
Before the Sword of Starlight questline can begin, a few things need to be in place:
- Patch 1.04.00 or later must be installed. The Scholastone Institute quests and the Constellation Helm do not exist in earlier versions.
- You need to have made significant progress through the Hernand Faction Quests, particularly for the houses and towns in the region. The quest chain becomes available properly after completing Chapter VI.
- The 13 Constellation observations and the early Scholastone quests can be done with any character — Kliff, Damiane, or Oongka. But the final quest, Where Starlight Converges, is exclusive to Damiane. You must switch to her for the last step.
- If Kliff has an active main quest inside the Jijeong Temple Pagoda during Chapter 9, the area will be locked for Damiane until Kliff’s quest is finished. Complete that first if it is active.
Step 1: Start the Scholastone Institute Quest Chain
Head to the Scholastone Institute in Hernand. After progressing through enough Hernand Faction Quests, a questline called What the Stars Left Behind will become available here.
This questline begins at the institute’s research area, just south of the Abyss Nexus inside the building. Talk to the researcher there. The quest will ask you to find and read the Constellation Research Journal, which is located in the Scholastone library. If you have already picked up and read it during exploration, the step will auto-complete.

As part of this questline, you will also interact with the Kharonso Troll Alliance quests. Complete the troll-related steps, including the Trolls Studying Steles quest, and the researcher will give you the Constellation Helm. This helm is the tool you need to observe all 13 Constellations.
Note: Some quests in this chain involve Cloudcart research. Make sure you have completed the Abyssal Environment Research, Cloudcart Efficiency Enhancement Research, and Cloudcart Altitude Enhancement Research at the Institute, as these are needed to unlock certain steps in the chain.
Step 2: Equip the Constellation Helm and Observe All 13 Constellations
Once you have the Constellation Helm, equip it. It grants you the Stargaze active skill, which you use at each observation point to scan the sky and register a constellation.

A few rules apply to every observation:
- Constellations are only visible at night and in clear weather. Daytime and overcast skies will prevent them from appearing. If you arrive and cannot see anything, wait for nightfall or a weather change.
- You must align the stars with the landmark below using the Stargaze skill until the pattern locks in.
- Each constellation is in a different region, so expect to travel across all of Pywel to complete them all.
The 13 Constellations are spread across the following regions:
- Hernand — Several constellations are in this region, including one at a sealed stone in Kharonso. This one requires the Trolls Studying Steles quest to be active when you observe it.
- Crimson Desert — Two constellations are here, named Camels and Giants. Both are near major Spires in the desert and can be done together on a single trip. One is in the Forgotten City ruins, south of the giant sand pit. Look southeast from the northeast corner of the floor section to find the constellation shaped like a slanted “Z”.
- Delesyia — Constellations are found in this eastern region, which contains mechanical enemies and is a mid-to-late game area.
- Pailune — One constellation is at an unmarked set of standing stones at the dead-end path south of the Spire of Ringing Truth.
- Southwest of Demeniss (Horseshoe Lake) — Stand on the pillar overlooking the lake and find the constellation shaped like the number “2” to complete this observation.
It is best to attempt this questline after completing or being close to the end of the main story. Reaching certain regions like the Crimson Desert, Delesyia, and Pailune before you are ready can make the journey much harder.

Step 3: Unlock The Maps of the Night Unveiled
After registering all 13 constellations, return to the Scholastone Institute. The scholars there will unlock the 10th and final quest in the chain, called The Maps of the Night Unveiled. This is the secret quest that only appears once all observations are complete.
This quest activates the final destination. The stone pillar at the Jijeong Temple Pagoda is completely inert until this specific quest is in your journal. Do not head there early expecting anything to happen.
Completing this step also unlocks the Where Starlight Converges questline, which is Damiane’s exclusive story conclusion.
Step 4: Switch to Damiane and Collect the Sword
The final step must be done as Damiane. Switch characters before heading to the location.
- PC: Press F1 to open the character selection screen and choose Damiane.
- Controller: Press Up on the D-Pad and select Damiane from the character list.
Now travel south of Demeniss into Serpent’s Marsh. Look for the Jijeong Temple Pagoda, a stone structure sitting in swamp water between Serpent’s Marsh and the Bay of Abundance. Climb up to the central stone pillar at the top. With The Maps of the Night Unveiled active in your quest log, a cutscene will play showing starlight descending into the stone.
The Sword of Starlight is added to Damiane’s inventory automatically. The questline is complete.

Sword of Starlight Stats
Here is what the sword offers at each stage:
- Base (unrefined): 17 Attack, Attack Speed Lv 5
- Max refinement (+10): 27 Attack, Attack Speed Lv 6
- Abyss Gear slots: Celestial Transference (Stamina Siphon Lv 2), Swift III (Attack Speed Lv 3), Greater Primalbane (+40% damage to Walkers)
The raw attack numbers are decent but not exceptional for an endgame weapon. The real value is in its Abyss Gear. For more on how one-handed swords compare in Crimson Desert, see our best one-handed swords guide.
Is the Sword of Starlight Worth Getting?
The main selling point is Stamina Siphon Lv 2, carried by the Celestial Transference Abyss Gear. As of patch 1.04.00, it is the only Stamina Siphon Lv 2 in the game. It regenerates stamina during combat passively on every hit, which is a genuine advantage for any Damiane build that relies on dodging, combo chains, or sustained offensive pressure. In longer fights where stamina management becomes a real constraint, this keeps you in the action.
The +40% damage to Walkers from Greater Primalbane is a useful bonus in the right encounters. Walker-type enemies appear throughout the game, and the damage multiplier compounds well when combined with other offensive Abyss Gears.
Even if you do not use the sword on Damiane long-term, the Celestial Transference Abyss Gear can be extracted and transferred to other weapons via Witches found across the world. So even players who primarily use Kliff can benefit — extract the gear and slot it into any weapon Kliff can equip. The sword itself stays Damiane-exclusive, but the gear does not.
Completing all 13 Constellations also unlocks the Navigator of the Stars achievement and counts toward the Expert Explorer trophy, covering all Exploration Challenges. If you are working toward completion, this questline handles both.
