Can You Get Reed Devil’s Armor by Beating Him in Crimson Desert?

No. Defeating the Reed Devil in Chapter 3 drops nothing from his set. His gear is hidden across the southern Hernand region in secret caves, locked rooms, and hidden chests.

The good news is you don’t need to fight a single enemy or spend any money to get any of it. You just need to know where to look. Everything is accessible as soon as you reach the Hernand region.

Head northeast of where the Hollow Visage sword is (more on that below) and look for the Grace Estate — a small ruined mansion south of the Castlewood Ruins at the end of a road.

Go to the back of the estate. You’ll see a chest sitting behind iron bars with two unlit torches on either side.

Interact with each torch to light them. Both need to be lit. Once both are burning, the bars lower and the chest opens. Inside is the Sunset Reed Leather Cloak.

The basket helmet that matches the Reed Devil’s look is also found here in the same area, so grab both while you’re there.

This chest piece is in a cave behind a waterfall, located northeast of the Frozen Mountain of Souls. Approach from the ocean side — come in from the mountain range facing the water and look for a large waterfall built into the cliffs.

About halfway up the waterfall, there’s a makeshift path connecting to where the water flows.

Face the waterfall and press R1 + Triangle (PlayStation) / RB + Y (Xbox) to use Stab. This thrusts you through the water into the hidden cave behind it.

Follow the path to the back. You’ll find several chests, a Refined Palmer Pill, and the Sunset Reed Leather Armor. Pick up everything — it’s all free loot.

For more on how Palmer Pills work, see our guide on how to get and use Palmar Pills in Crimson Desert.

Sunset Reed Leather Boots Location in Crimson Desert (Sanctum of Absolution)

Stats:

  • Attack: 12
  • Defense: 5
  • Movement Speed: 2
  • Refinement: 2
  • Abyss Gears: Defense 3, Movement Speed 1

Head west of the Reedwind Valley Abyss Nexus to find the Sanctum of Absolution. Our full Sanctum of Absolution puzzle guide has directions if you need them.

Important tip: If you visit this sanctum earlier in the chapter, there are no enemies and no boss to deal with. Come early and it’s a clean run straight to the boots.

Once inside, climb to the tallest point of the sanctum. On the south side, look for a carved-out section of wall near a half-destroyed tower. You’ll spot a horizontal platform sticking out of the wall.

Stand on the edge of the platform. Charge up a Force Palm strike and hit the wall. The platform flips and launches you into the hidden room behind it. The boots chest is inside.

Alternative method: If you have high-tier gliding unlocked, you can sometimes glide directly into the hidden chamber from the opposite spire. The Force Palm method is more reliable though.

Stats:

  • Critical Rate: 1
  • Refinement: 3
  • Abyss Gears: Critical Rate 1, Attack Speed 1, Attack 1

The Hollow Visage — the Reed Devil’s own sword — is hidden in Dawn Cave, north of the Sunset Reed Leather Armor cave and just east of the Reedwind Valley Abyss Nexus. The lore says this is “a sword once used by the Reed Devil, the demon who stained the reed fields with blood.”

Best approach: Start from the top of the Frozen Mountain of Souls. Jump and glide down to the platform by the waterfall. Trying to reach the ledge from the bottom is very awkward — coming from above is much easier.

Once you’re on the platform, face the waterfall and use Stab (R1 + Triangle / RB + Y) to punch through the water. Head to the back of the cave and open the ornate chest. The Hollow Visage is inside.

Is Hollow Visage Worth Using in Crimson Desert?

Yes, especially early. It’s one of the best early one-handed weapons in the game. The three pre-loaded Abyss Gear slots, high attack speed, and solid base attack make it immediately useful. It also scales well because you can swap its Abyss Gears for higher-tier ones as you progress.

The default Critical Rate Abyss Gear is decent, but consider swapping it out for flat Attack or a gear with special effects. The Sword of the Lord, dropped by the Hornsplitter boss, is a strong replacement. Check our guide on how to beat Kailok the Hornsplitter for help with that fight.

You can swap Abyss Gears by visiting witches in their hideouts. For more on this, see our guide to unlocking witch Abyss Gears.

One warning: These items cannot be re-obtained once sold or dismantled. Lock them in your inventory as soon as you pick them up.
