  • Start the quest by standing on the altar at Serpent Shrine in Dewhaven, Delesyia
  • Defeat all three Ancient bosses: Priscus, Primus, and Praevus
  • Return to Aeserion and ride his back to destroy three Bismuth Emitters using Turning Slash

The Shackled God is a Faction Quest in Delesyia that asks Kliff to free an ancient god trapped in the body of a giant serpent. Aeserion the Great Serpent has been bound by three Ancients who seek his knowledge and power. To free him, you need to hunt down those Ancients, return to the shrine, climb onto Aeserion’s back, and destroy the devices keeping him shackled.

This walkthrough covers every step from starting the quest to claiming the final reward.

How to Start the Shackled God Faction Quest

The Shackled God quest begins at the Serpent Shrine, located on a separate island in the south of Dewhaven in Delesyia. It is at the southwestern tip of the region, along the coast.

To reach the shrine, head to the cliffside area above and jump or glide down to the island below. You will see various magi in the area firing at Aeserion from a distance — this confirms you are in the right place.

Once you arrive, stand on the altar marked on your map. Aeserion will speak to you and explain his imprisonment by the three Ancients. After his speech ends, the Shackled God Faction Quest will appear automatically in your Journal under Delesyia Faction Quests.

From this point, all three Ancient locations will be marked on your map as long as the quest is tracked. You can tackle them in any order.

Important: You need Focus Force Palm unlocked before you can complete the final step of this quest. This ability is unlocked at the end of Chapter 4. If you attempt the Bismuth Emitter cleanse without it, nothing will happen. Make sure you are past Chapter 4 before returning to Aeserion after defeating the Ancients.

Step 1 — Defeat All Three Ancient Bosses

The quest requires you to hunt down and defeat three Ancients: Priscus, Primus, and Praevus. All three are flying bosses who rely heavily on ranged attacks. You will need a bow, the Focused Shot skill, and healing consumables for each fight.

Here is a quick overview of each one and where to find them:

Priscus the Ancient

Priscus is found inside the Spire of Ringing Truth, west of Pailune in the Five-Finger Mountain area. This one requires some extra work before the fight — you need to climb the tower, burn the bell rope at the top with an Explosive Arrow or Fire Arrow, and drop the bell to open a hole in the floor that leads to his underground arena.

Priscus fires laser projectiles and dive bombs. Use Nature’s Snare to block his lasers and trigger Retribution for quick burst damage. See our full Priscus the Ancient — Spire of Ringing Truth guide for the complete walkthrough.

Primus the Ancient

Primus is at Arrowhead Rock in Dewhaven Territory, just north of the Serpent Shrine. He is the closest Ancient to the quest start point and a solid first target.

Use Focused Shot to build his Stun Bar and knock him out of the air. Once grounded, use Turning Slash and finishers for burst damage. See our full how to find and beat Primus the Ancient guide.

Praevus the Ancient

Praevus is at the Abyss Debris, west of Tashkalp in the Crimson Desert region. He is the hardest of the three — his arena is covered in fire, and he uses fire lasers and meteors that can set you alight. Bring Heat-Resistant armor before this fight.

Same core strategy applies — Focused Shot to stun, Turning Slash when grounded. Roll immediately if you catch fire. See our full how to find and beat Praevus the Ancient guide.

Step 2 — Return to Aeserion at Serpent Shrine

Once all three Ancients are defeated, return to the Serpent Shrine and approach Aeserion. This triggers the final stage of the quest.

Before you go back, make sure you have the following ready:

  • Lightning-Resistant Armor or Abyss Gears — Aeserion’s back is struck by periodic lightning, and standing on him without protection will drain your health fast
  • Recovery Items — Meat Skewers or similar healing food to sustain you through the encounter
  • Turning Slash unlocked (R1+R2 / RB+RT / LMB+RMB)
  • Focus Force Palm unlocked — this is required to cleanse the cores. It becomes available after Chapter 4

For help getting your gear ready, see our how to upgrade weapons and armor guide and Crimson Desert ice resistance and frost protection guide for general elemental protection tips.

Step 3 — How to Destroy the Bismuth Emitters

Aeserion moves and hovers around the Serpent Shrine. You need to jump and ride on his back to reach the Bismuth Emitters — the three large red metal protrusions sticking up from poles along his spine.

Here is exactly how to destroy each one:

Breaking a Bismuth Emitter

  1. Approach the Bismuth Emitter on Aeserion’s back
  2. Use Turning Slash to break the emitter cover:
    • PlayStation: R1 + R2
    • Xbox: RB + RT
    • PC: LMB + RMB
  3. This destroys the outer casing and reveals the metal rod and glowing core embedded in Aeserion’s back

Cleansing the Core

Once the emitter cover is broken, you need to cleanse the exposed core using Force Palm: Focus:

  1. Activate Focus: press L3+R3 (PlayStation) / both sticks (Xbox) / the Focus keybind (PC)
  2. Use Force Palm: Focus by pressing R3 (PlayStation) / right stick click (Xbox) while in Focus mode
  3. Hold it until a glowing gold weakspot appears inside Aeserion
  4. Release R3 to complete the cleanse — the Bismuth Emitter is destroyed

Repeat this process for all three Bismuth Emitters across Aeserion’s back.

Step 4 — Watch Out for the Electrification

If you take too long on a Bismuth Emitter, it will temporarily retract into Aeserion’s back and start electrifying the area around it. Do not try to continue the cleanse while this is happening.

Back away immediately and wait at a safe distance until the electrification stops and the emitter returns to its normal state. Then move back in and resume. Trying to push through while it is electrifying will drain your health rapidly and interrupt the Force Palm animation.

Lightning strikes from the emitters are a constant hazard across Aeserion’s entire back. Keep moving between emitters and do not stand still. Lightning-Resistant gear makes this significantly more manageable.

Shackled God Quest Rewards in Crimson Desert

Once all three Bismuth Emitters are destroyed and cores cleansed, a cutscene triggers. Aeserion is freed and expresses his gratitude. You receive:

RewardDetails
Aeserion’s Sword+22 Attack, Level 0 Attack Speed, Level 5 Refinement, three Abyss Gear sockets

The Aeserion’s Sword is a one-handed weapon. It has solid base stats and the benefit of three Abyss Gear sockets by default, which gives it decent customization potential. That said, it is not dramatically stronger than other late-game one-handed weapons you may already have at this stage.

Hidden bonus after the quest: Once Aeserion is free, explore the Serpent Shrine island for additional rewards. There are several Bismuth deposits you can mine for high-end crafting materials. There is also a wall with a book behind Aeserion that unlocks weapon knowledge when read. And of course, the shrine is where you collect Aeserion Scales — the final upgrade material for weapons and armor. See our full how to get Aeserion Scales guide for details on farming them.

Tips for Completing the Shackled God Quest

  • Tackle the Ancients in order of difficulty: Primus first (closest, easiest), then Priscus, then Praevus last as he is the hardest.
  • Do not rush back to Aeserion before Chapter 4 ends. Focus Force Palm is required and you cannot cleanse the cores without it.
  • Bring Lightning-Resistant gear for the Bismuth Emitter phase — Aeserion’s back is continuously struck by lightning throughout.
  • Move fast between emitters and do not linger in one spot.
  • Back away when electrification starts — forcing through it wastes health and time.
  • Collect Aeserion Scales while you are on the island after completing the quest — around 50 are available per visit and they are the best upgrade material in the game.
