    Destiny 2 Praxic Blade Upgrades — TL;DR

    • The Praxic Blade has 5 upgrade categories: Catalysts, Forms, Focus Mods, Power Cores, and Dark Matter Crystals.
    • Three Catalysts come from the Fire and Ice Exotic mission on Legendary difficulty. The fourth drops from the Equilibrium dungeon.
    • There are 3 Forms — Balanced (default), Defensive (Praxic’s Path quest), and Offensive (Equilibrium dungeon quest).
    • Focus Mods improve specific stats. Most unlock by ranking up with Syndicates at Tharsis Outpost.
    • Power Cores add elemental debuffs to your attacks. There are 3 total — Impact, Throw, and Refraction.
    • Dark Matter Crystals are purely cosmetic. There are 15 colors total including Monument of Triumph additions.
    • All upgrades are account-wide. Unlock each one once and all characters benefit.

Destiny 2 Praxic Blade upgrades make the Renegades lightsaber Exotic one of the most customizable weapons ever added to the game. There are over 25 individual unlocks spread across five categories. This guide covers every upgrade, what it does, and exactly how to get it in 2026.

How to Get the Praxic Blade First

You unlock the Praxic Blade by completing the Fire and Ice Exotic mission during the Renegades campaign. It is the fourth major story mission. After completing the full campaign, you receive the Praxic’s Path Exotic quest, which opens up several additional upgrades.

You must own the Renegades expansion to access any of this content.

All Praxic Blade Catalysts in Destiny 2

There are 4 Catalysts for the Praxic Blade. Three are hidden inside the Fire and Ice mission. The fourth is tied to the Equilibrium dungeon.

    Catalyst 1 Echoing Blade

    Catalyst 1 — Echoing Blade

Effect: Increases the number of targets the thrown Praxic Blade can hit.

How to get it: Complete the Fire and Ice Exotic mission on Legendary difficulty. This Catalyst requires you to find and kill the two Imbalanced Wardens — Taken Knights hidden at the start of the mission. One is in the Imperator Cannon area to the right of spawn. The second is in the left hallway room in the Abandoned Yard.

    Catalyst 2 Upper Hand
    Catalyst 2 Upper Hand

    Catalyst 2 — Upper Hand

Effect: Increases thrown Sword damage and reflected shot damage when you are on higher ground than your target.

How to get it: Also from the Fire and Ice mission on Legendary difficulty. After defeating the Imbalanced Wardens, the mission triggers overloaded hoop mechanics. Complete these correctly before the boss phase to unlock this Catalyst at mission end.

    Catalyst 3 — Hyperblade

Effect: Reflecting shots causes you to become Amplified and grants increased lunge distance for a single swing.

    Fire and Ice mission
    Fire and Ice mission

How to get it: Fire and Ice mission on Legendary difficulty. This one requires the four Blights section. Place all 4 Blights into the pillars at the centre of the arena, then destroy them with the Praxic Blade. A Taken Ogre called the Catalyst of Imbalance spawns. Kill it. The Hyperblade Catalyst drops from a gold chest at the Praxic Blade altar at the end of the mission.

You can unlock all three of these Catalysts in a single Legendary run if you complete every hidden objective without skipping steps.

    Catalyst 4 — Energy Conduit

Effect: Grants health regeneration based on the number of targets hit by the thrown Praxic Blade.

How to get it: Complete The Way Between quest in the Equilibrium dungeon. This quest starts by speaking to Aunor in the Tharsis Outpost Cantina and then completing your first Equilibrium run. The Energy Conduit Catalyst is the reward for finishing the quest. See the full Equilibrium dungeon guide for details on the activity itself.

All Praxic Blade Forms in Destiny 2

Forms change the base playstyle of the Praxic Blade. Each form adjusts how ammo is generated and how the blade performs in offensive or defensive situations. You can only have one Form active at a time.

    Balanced Form — Default

    praxic blade forms
    praxic blade forms

Effect: Rapid final blows grant ammo to the Praxic Blade and trigger health regeneration. Works well for general content and add clearing.

How to get it: Unlocked automatically when you receive the Praxic Blade. No extra steps needed.

This form is the most flexible. If you are not sure which form to use, stay on Balanced until you understand your preferred playstyle.

    Defensive Form

Effect: Blocking an attack with your guard grants ammo to the Praxic Blade. Blocking immediately after guarding increases damage for a short time.

How to get it: Complete the Praxic’s Path Exotic quest after finishing the Renegades campaign.

This form works best with the Refraction Power Core and builds focused on reflecting ranged attacks. Note that as of the Monument of Triumph patch in June 2026, the Defensive Form now requires rapid blocks rather than just holding guard to generate ammo. The Balanced Form is now more competitive for many players as a result.

    Offensive Form

Effect: Focuses on increased boss damage and aggressive sword combat. Prioritises attack over defence.

How to get it: Complete the Invigorating Blade step of the The Way Between quest in the Equilibrium dungeon.

This is the form most suited to endgame DPS situations. Pair it with Sullen Claw from the Equilibrium loot pool for a full sword damage build.

All Praxic Blade Focus Mods in Destiny 2

Focus Mods improve specific stats on the Praxic Blade — Impact, Charge Rate, Guard Resistance, Guard Endurance, and Ammo Capacity. Most require ranking up with one of the three Syndicates at Tharsis Outpost.

Complete jobs, Priority Contracts, and exchange Dark Matter Ingots to raise your reputation. At ranks 2, 4, and 5 with each Syndicate, you can purchase the corresponding Focus Mods for Credits at their dens.

    • Blade Ammo — Random drop from weekly Syndicate shipments (collect from Spider after the weekly Tuesday reset, one shipment per Syndicate per week)
    • Invigorating Blade — Equilibrium dungeon quest, The Way Between

The Syndicate reputation grind is the bulk of the Focus Mod unlock process. Prioritise one Syndicate at a time rather than splitting effort across all three.

All Praxic Blade Power Cores in Destiny 2

Power Cores are the most impactful upgrades for the Praxic Blade. Each one adds an elemental debuff triggered by a specific attack type. The debuff applied matches the keyword of your currently equipped Super.

For example, a Solar Super applies Scorch. An Arc Super applies Jolt. A Void Super applies Weaken. A Strand Super applies Sever.

    Impact Core

Effect: Direct melee hits with the Praxic Blade apply an elemental debuff matching your Super keyword.

How to get it: Sold by a rotating Awoken merchant in the Tharsis Cantina, to the right of Aunor. The merchant does not appear every day — check after each daily reset. When available, it costs 4,000 Credits. This is account-bound, so you only need to buy it once.

    Throw Core

Effect: Thrown Praxic Blade attacks apply an elemental debuff matching your Super keyword on hit.

How to get it: There is a Fallen Vandal sleeping among garbage in the southern area of the Tharsis Outpost Bazaar. Interact with them to unlock access to the Throw Core purchase.

    Refraction Core

Effect: Reflecting shots with the Praxic Blade’s guard applies an elemental debuff matching your Super keyword to the targets hit.

How to get it: Purchased from the Eliksni junk vendor in Tharsis Outpost through a gambling mechanic — 100 Credits per roll as a random drop. Note that at launch the cost was bugged at 777,777 Credits. If this bug persists, check for patches before farming. This Core pairs best with the Defensive Form and Stronghold Titan builds.

All Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals in Destiny 2

Dark Matter Crystals change the color of the Praxic Blade’s energy. They are purely cosmetic — no stat or gameplay changes. There are 15 colors total in 2026 including Monument of Triumph additions.

    All Crystal Colors and Sources

    • White (default) — Unlocked automatically with the Praxic Blade
    • Green — Praxic’s Path quest reward
    • Blue — Praxic’s Path quest reward (Fire and Ice mission completion)
    • Red — Random RNG drop from Invasion runs in the Lawless Frontier (must use at least 1 Deathmark)
    • Orange — Random drop from Lawless Frontier jobs on Mars
    • Indigo — Random drop from Lawless Frontier jobs on Europa
    • Magenta — Random drop from Lawless Frontier jobs on Venus
    • Cyan — Random drop from high-level contracts in the Lawless Frontier
    • Taken (black/purple) — Random drop from the Equilibrium dungeon
    • Yellow — Praxic Professional Exotic Order (found via Legendary/Exotic Orders)
    • Gradient — Eververse store
    • Purple — Eververse store
    • Silver (3 variants) — Eververse store (appear only after completing Praxic’s Path quest)

For a full breakdown of every color with farming tips, see the Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals guide.

Best Order to Unlock Praxic Blade Upgrades

There are a lot of upgrades to chase. Here is a practical priority order for 2026:

    • First: Complete Fire and Ice on Legendary to get all 3 Catalysts in one run. Echoing Blade, Upper Hand, and Hyperblade unlock immediately and improve the blade significantly.
    • Second: Complete Praxic’s Path to unlock Defensive Form and the Blue and Green crystals.
    • Third: Run Equilibrium to unlock Energy Conduit Catalyst and Offensive Form via The Way Between quest. The Taken crystal can also drop here passively.
    • Fourth: Start ranking up Syndicates for Focus Mods. Prioritise one Syndicate at a time.
    • Fifth: Check the Tharsis Cantina daily for the Impact Core vendor.
    • Last: Farm Invasion for the Red crystal and Lawless Frontier planetary jobs for the remaining RNG color drops.

For Deathmarks needed to run Invasions for the Red crystal, see the full Deathmarks farming guide. For the Equilibrium dungeon loot and The Way Between quest context, the Equilibrium dungeon weapons and armor guide covers everything you need.

If you are chasing other Exotic Catalysts alongside the Praxic Blade, the Monument of Triumph new Catalysts guide lists every addition from the final 2026 update. You can also check where Xur is this week — he now sells several older Exotic Catalysts on rotation.
