Destiny 2: Solar Scythe Location in The Ghosts Mission

Find the Solar Scythe in The Ghosts mission in Destiny 2. Complete the Relics of the Past triumph by destroying the hidden nodes, spawning the relic, and getting 20 kills with it.

TL;DR

  • The Solar Scythe is found in the final boss room of The Ghosts mission in Savathûn’s Throne World.
  • You must shoot two hidden Pyramid nodes before the Solar Scythe spawns — it does not appear automatically.
  • The first node is to the left of the Rally Banner, the second is to the right above where the boss spawns.
  • After shooting both nodes, find the Solar Scythe on the left wall near glowing orange bulbs.
  • Get 20 kills with it and complete the mission to finish the Relics of the Past triumph.
  • Normal difficulty is all you need — no reason to run Legendary or Master for this triumph.

What Is the Relics of the Past Triumph?

The Relics of the Past triumph requires you to find the Solar Scythe in the mission “The Ghosts” in the Throne World and defeat combatants with it. It was added to the game with Monument of Triumph on June 8, 2026 as part of the Stories: Campaigns category.

The triumph sounds simple, but most players fail it on their first attempt because the Solar Scythe does not appear automatically — you must destroy hidden glowing nodes in the final boss arena to spawn it. If you do not know to look for the nodes, you can complete the mission twice without ever seeing the relic.

This triumph rewards Legendary Marks upon completion. For the full picture of how Legendary Marks work and what to spend them on, see the Monument of Triumph guide.

How to Access The Ghosts Mission

The Ghosts is the first mission of The Witch Queen campaign and requires the Witch Queen expansion to play. You can find The Ghosts mission after completing The Witch Queen campaign, then by navigating to Savathûn’s Throne World and clicking “Normal Campaign” underneath Quagmire on the map. Then select “Customize,” where you can choose the third mission, “The Ghosts.”

If you have not completed The Witch Queen campaign yet, you need to play through it first. The Ghosts is unlocked by starting The Witch Queen quest — it is one of the first missions available in the campaign. You will be starting in Quagmire on Savathûn’s Throne World near the entrance to the Hive temple.

For the Relics of the Past triumph, Normal difficulty is the right choice. There is no requirement to run Legendary or Master, and the lower difficulty means Scorn enemies die faster to the Solar Scythe, making your kill count easier to build up.

The Ghosts Mission: Brief Walkthrough

The Solar Scythe only becomes available in the final boss arena, so you need to play through the full mission first. Here is what to expect along the way.

Fighting to the Temple

The mission begins in Quagmire. Follow the waypoint toward the Hive temple. You will encounter a mix of Lucent Hive and Scorn fighting each other along the path. You will come across a large room where the Hive and Scorn are fighting and will have to clear out all enemies so you can proceed. Clear the room to open the path forward and collect the loot chest that appears.

After the room, you will enter a dark cave. Most rooms will contain orange puss sacks that can be shot at, illuminating the area. They also blind nearby enemies when destroyed. Shoot them as you move through to keep visibility up.

Lightbearer Encounters

The mission’s main mechanic involves Lucent Hive Lightbearers — Hive enemies who carry Ghosts and will resurrect if their Ghost is not destroyed. Right after you rally the nearby encounter flag, kill the Scorn enemies to your left. One of them will be a Chieftain with a Void shield. Kill this enemy first as their totems can make nearby Scorn invincible. A Lucent Lightbearer will then spawn. Kill the Lightbearer and immediately destroy its Ghost by finishing it before the Ghost can revive it. This pattern repeats several times through the mission.

When dealing with Lucent Wizards specifically, you will want to either suppress them or quickly burst them down with your Heavy weapon. If the Wizard pops their Super, immediately find cover.

Reaching the Final Boss Arena

Keep following the waypoints through the dimly lit caverns, shoot Lightbearers, and destroy their Ghosts as you go. The last encounter will lead you into a dimly lit cavern. Like before, shoot the orange puss sacks lining the walls to light the area. Keep moving down until you reach the final boss arena inside the Temple of the Wrathful. This is where the Solar Scythe is found.

How to Find the Solar Scythe

This is the step most players miss. Do not trigger the boss fight immediately. Before engaging anything, you need to shoot two hidden Pyramid nodes to spawn the Solar Scythe.

Node 1 — Left of the Rally Banner

When you are in the Temple of the Wrathful in front of the Rally Banner facing the door, look to your left to find a Pyramid node. It appears as a small glowing triangular shape on the wall. Shoot it to activate it. You will hear a distinct audio cue when it is destroyed.

Node 2 — Right Wall Above Where the Boss Spawns

Shoot a second node on the right, just above where the boss spawns. This node is also on the wall of the arena but on the opposite side. Look right and slightly upward from the center of the room toward the far wall. Shoot it to destroy it as well.

Picking Up the Solar Scythe

Once all nodes have been shot, head to the front of the room where the boss spawns and hug the left wall. You will find the Solar Scythe among some pulsing and glowing orange bulbs. Walk up to it and interact to pick it up. The relic appears as a glowing orange Solar energy weapon that acts as a melee tool with sweeping attacks.

After destroying the nodes, watch the center of the arena. A glowing orange energy pool appears and the Solar Scythe relic materializes above it. If you do not see the pool appear, check that you hit both nodes correctly. Missing one prevents the relic from spawning.

How to Get 20 Kills With the Solar Scythe

Once the Solar Scythe is in your hands, use it as your primary weapon for the rest of the encounter. The Solar Scythe is a relic weapon originally introduced during Season of the Haunted. It specializes in Solar damage and powerful sweeping attacks capable of clearing large groups of enemies quickly.

Here is how to use it effectively:

  • Light attack — A quick horizontal slash. Use this on groups of weaker Scorn to chain kills efficiently.
  • Heavy attack — A powerful downward slam with a larger AoE. Best used on clustered enemies or tougher targets.
  • Do not finish the boss too quickly. The most common issue is defeating the boss before earning enough Scythe kills. If the triumph fails to complete, restart the mission and spend more time defeating enemy waves with the relic before finishing the encounter.

To generate more enemies to kill with the Scythe, spawn more enemies and defeat Brutiks by shooting the purple crystals in the arena. Each crystal you shoot triggers a new wave of Scorn enemies. Shoot a crystal, let the wave spawn, sweep through them with the Scythe, then shoot another crystal. This is the fastest way to stack up kills without risking running out of targets.

You do not need to count kills manually. The triumph progress tracker in your character screen will show how far you are. Once you hit 20 kills, finish off Brutiks and complete the mission to claim the triumph.

Step-by-Step Summary

  1. Navigate to Savathûn’s Throne World in the Director and select Normal Campaign underneath Quagmire.
  2. Click Customize and select The Ghosts (third mission in the list).
  3. Play through the mission normally, defeating Lightbearers and destroying their Ghosts along the way.
  4. Reach the final boss arena inside the Temple of the Wrathful. Place a Rally Banner if needed — but do not trigger the encounter yet.
  5. Turn left from the Rally Banner and shoot the first Pyramid node on the left wall.
  6. Turn right and look above the boss spawn area to find and shoot the second Pyramid node.
  7. Go to the left wall near the orange glowing bulbs at the front of the arena to pick up the Solar Scythe.
  8. Shoot the purple crystals around the room to spawn Scorn waves and use the Scythe to kill enemies.
  9. After reaching 20 kills, defeat Brutiks the Lightbane to end the encounter and complete the mission.
  10. The Relics of the Past triumph unlocks automatically once the mission ends.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Triggering the boss before shooting both nodes. If Brutiks spawns before you shoot the nodes, the arena becomes chaotic and locating the nodes under fire is much harder. Always shoot both nodes before engaging.
  • Missing one of the two nodes. Missing one of the three crystals prevents the Solar Scythe from spawning entirely. Double-check both sides of the arena before moving to pick up the relic.
  • Killing Brutiks too fast. The boss dies quickly on Normal if you unload everything into it. Hold your heavy and do not use your Super until you have your 20 kills. Let the Scythe do the work first.
  • Not using the purple crystals. Some players forget the crystals spawn extra enemies. If enemy waves thin out before you reach 20 kills, shoot a crystal to refresh the room.
