She is consistently rated as one of the best characters in the game. How Does Raiden Shogun’s Kit Work?

Raiden’s kit has two moving parts that work together: her Elemental Skill and her Elemental Burst. Understanding how they connect is the most important thing to know before pulling for her.

Elemental Skill: Transcendence: Baleful Omen

When Raiden uses her Elemental Skill, she places the Eye of Stormy Judgment on all nearby party members. This eye has a long 25-second uptime. While it is active, it performs a coordinated Electro attack every time your active character deals damage. It also increases each party member’s Elemental Burst damage based on how many Resolve stacks Raiden currently holds.

Always cast her Elemental Skill first before rotating through your team. This sets up both the off-field Electro application and the burst damage buff for your other characters.

Elemental Burst: Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu

Raiden’s burst starts with a powerful initial AoE Electro slash — the Musou no Hitotachi — then enters a 7-second state called Musou Isshin. During this window, all her Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks are infused with Electro and count as Elemental Burst damage. Every hit also restores flat Energy to all party members, up to five times during the burst window.

This Energy restoration does not benefit from Energy Recharge — it is flat Energy delivered directly to every character. This is why Raiden is called a “universal battery.” She does not eliminate your team’s Energy requirements, but she significantly reduces them, allowing teammates like Xiangling and Xingqiu to use their high-cost bursts more freely.

Resolve Stacks: The Most Misunderstood Mechanic

Raiden’s burst damage scales with Resolve stacks, which are stored in her Chakra Desiderata. She gains Resolve when nearby party members use their Elemental Bursts. The higher the Energy cost of the burst used, the more Resolve she gains. The maximum is 60 stacks.

This creates the core rotation: use Raiden’s Elemental Skill, rotate through your team and use everyone else’s bursts to fill Resolve, then use Raiden’s burst last. Firing her burst at zero stacks wastes most of its damage potential.

Raiden also passively gains 2 Resolve stacks every time a nearby character picks up Elemental Orbs or Particles (once every 3 seconds), giving her a few extra stacks during normal play.

Raiden fits three distinct team roles, and she is strong in all of them.

Burst DPS (Most Common)

This is her standard role. Raiden is built around Energy Recharge, CRIT DMG, and Electro DMG. She runs the Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set, which converts Energy Recharge into bonus Burst DMG. She rotates through the team, stacks Resolve, then takes a 7-second burst window. The Raiden National team — Raiden, Bennett, Xiangling, and Xingqiu — is one of the most effective and widely used Spiral Abyss teams in the game.

Hyperbloom Trigger

Raiden’s Elemental Skill has 100% uptime and triggers coordinated Electro hits consistently. This makes her one of the best Hyperbloom triggers in the game, even competing with Kuki Shinobu. For this build, she runs Elemental Mastery as a main stat and focuses on EM substats instead of CRIT. She stays off-field almost entirely and lets her skill do the work.

Energy Battery Support

In teams where another character is the main DPS, Raiden can play a pure support role. She enters the field for her burst window, refills the team’s energy, then rotates back off. Yes. Raiden Shogun at C0 is one of the strongest 5-star characters in the game without any constellation investment. Her C0 kit already delivers full Energy battery capability and a powerful burst window. The Raiden National team clears Spiral Abyss floor 12 comfortably at C0.

She does not require her signature weapon either. The Catch — a free polearm obtained through fishing — competes directly with her signature Engulfing Lightning at high refinements. At R5, The Catch is an excellent weapon that makes her fully functional for F2P players.

Raiden Shogun Constellations: What You Need to Know

Raiden’s constellations are some of the best in the game, but she does not need them to be useful. Here is what each constellation does and whether it is worth chasing.

C1: Ominous Inscription

Chakra Desiderata gathers Resolve faster. Electro characters now grant 80% more Resolve when they use bursts; other elements grant 20% more. This makes reaching max Resolve stacks easier and more consistent, especially in Electro-heavy teams. It is a quality-of-life upgrade rather than a major damage jump.

C2: Steelbreaker

While using her burst and in the Musou Isshin state, Raiden’s attacks ignore 60% of opponents’ DEF. This is not the same as DEF Shred, but the effect is extremely powerful — roughly a 43% increase to her personal damage during the burst window. C3: Shinkage Bygones

Increases her Elemental Burst talent level by 3 (maximum 15). Combined with C2, this adds meaningful damage on top of the DEF ignore. A good quality upgrade after C2.

After Musou Isshin expires, all nearby party members (excluding Raiden) gain 30% ATK for 10 seconds. A solid team buff that adds value to every rotation.

C5: Shogun’s Descent

Increases her Elemental Skill level by 3 (maximum 15). Adds minor Electro damage and slightly stronger burst damage buffs from the Eye of Stormy Judgment.

C6: Wishbearer

During Musou Isshin, attacks reduce all nearby party members’ Elemental Burst cooldowns by 1 second per hit. This can reduce cooldowns by up to 5 seconds, opening up new team rotations and synergies. It also further enhances her Energy restoration. A strong constellation, but the jump from C0 to C6 requires significant Primogem investment for a limited 5-star.

Raiden Shogun Artifact and Stat Build

The standard Raiden build uses the Emblem of Severed Fate 4-piece set, which is obtainable from the Momiji-Dyed Court domain. The 4-piece bonus increases Burst damage by 25% of her Energy Recharge, capped at 75% bonus DMG. This makes Energy Recharge both a utility stat and a damage stat for her.

For main stats, use:

• Sands: Energy Recharge% if using a non-ER weapon, or ATK% if using Engulfing Lightning
• Goblet: Electro DMG Bonus%
• Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG (aim for roughly a 1:2 CRIT Rate to CRIT DMG ratio)

Target at least 200–250% Energy Recharge to keep her burst on cooldown and maximize the Emblem 4-piece bonus. Her 4th ascension passive further converts ER above 100% into 0.4% Electro DMG Bonus per 1% ER, so there is genuine synergy between stacking ER and dealing more damage.

Avoid chasing too much ER — there are diminishing returns. Once you hit 250–260% ER, prioritizing CRIT stats gives more damage per substat roll than pushing ER further.

Talent Priority

Level her talents in this order: Elemental Burst first, then Elemental Skill, and finally Normal Attack last. Her Normal Attack talent does not increase her damage during the burst window — that damage scales exclusively off the Burst talent. Do not level Normal Attack until Burst and Skill are maxed.

Raiden Shogun Ascension Materials

All of Raiden’s materials come from Inazuma. You need to have progressed far enough into Chapter II of the Archon Quest to unlock the region before you can farm her. Here is what you need:

• Vajrada Amethyst — Electro ascension gems, dropped by Electro bosses including the Thunder Manifestation
• Storm Beads — Boss drop from the Thunder Manifestation at Amakumo Peak, Seirai Island
• Amakumo Fruit — Inazuma regional specialty found on Seirai Island, primarily around Amakumo Peak
• Handguards (Old, Kageuchi, Famed) — Dropped by Nobushi and Kairagi enemies across Inazuma

For her talents, you need:

• Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Light — Farmed from the Violet Court domain in Inazuma on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
• Molten Moment — Weekly Boss drop from La Signora in the Tenshukaku Trounce Domain. You must complete Chapter II, Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals to unlock this boss

• Using her burst before rotating teammates. Always use everyone else’s bursts first. More Resolve stacks equal more damage on her initial slash and during Musou Isshin.
• Swapping out immediately after the initial slash. The 7-second Musou Isshin window is where she regenerates Energy for your team. If you leave the field, the buff cancels and your team gets nothing.
• Stacking ER past 260%. There are clear diminishing returns. Once she can burst off-cooldown consistently, CRIT investments outperform more ER in terms of damage per roll.
• Leveling Normal Attack talent. It has no impact on her burst state damage. Skip it until everything else is maxed.
• Forgetting to cast her Elemental Skill before rotating. The Eye of Stormy Judgment needs to be active during your team rotation to accumulate Resolve stacks and buff teammate burst damage.

Best Team Compositions for Raiden Shogun

Raiden works in many teams, but here are the most reliable options:

• Raiden National: Raiden + Bennett + Xiangling + Xingqiu. The most popular and proven team for Spiral Abyss. All three teammates have high-cost bursts that fill Resolve efficiently.
• Raiden Hyperbloom: Raiden + Nahida + Xingqiu or Yelan + a flex slot. Raiden triggers Hyperbloom with her skill, dealing powerful AoE Dendro reaction damage off-field.
