Hook is one of the most energetic and endearing characters in Honkai Star Rail — the self-proclaimed leader of The Moles adventure squad and the terror of Belobog’s underworld. Pitch-Dark Hook the Great may be small, but she hits hard, burns everything, and generates Energy at an impressive rate for a 4-star. In patch 4.3, she remains a solid free-to-play DPS for new players and a fun option in Fire-weak content. This Hook build guide covers everything — best Light Cones, Relics, stat priorities, team compositions, and Eidolons — to get the most out of her in the current patch.

Who Is Hook in Honkai Star Rail?
Hook is a 4-star character following the Path of Destruction with the Fire element. She is the boss of The Moles — a group of Belobog’s younger residents who explore the city’s underground tunnels, fight monsters, and go on grand adventures. Her enthusiasm is limitless, her confidence is absolute, and her flair for dramatic self-introduction is unmatched anywhere in the game.
On the battlefield, Prydwen’s review describes Hook accurately: she functions more like an honorary Hunt unit than a traditional Destruction character. Her damage is primarily single-target, with Blast AoE appearing only when her Enhanced Skill fires after her Ultimate. She revolves around applying Burn via her Skill and then exploiting it through her Talent — which deals Additional Fire DMG and restores Energy every time she attacks a Burned enemy.
Her Energy economy is one of her genuine strengths. Her Talent restores 5 Energy per attack on a Burned enemy, her A6 Trace advances her action and restores 5 Energy on Ultimate use, and her low SPD of 94 is partially offset by how frequently she can cycle her Ultimate thanks to this passive Energy generation. She is faster and more action-dense in practice than her base SPD suggests.
Hook Skills and Abilities
Basic ATK – Hehe! Don’t Get Burned!
Deals Fire DMG to a single target equal to a percentage of Hook’s ATK. A clean filler action used when the team’s Skill Points run low. Generates 20 Energy. Rarely a priority over the Skill, but contributes meaningfully to Energy cycling and Talent procs if the target is already Burned.
Skill – Hey! Remember Hook?
Deals Fire DMG to a single target equal to up to 175% ATK at max Trace level, with a 65% base chance to inflict Burn for 2 turns. While Burned, the enemy takes Fire DoT equal to 52% ATK at the start of each turn. This is Hook’s primary action — it applies Burn and generates 30 Energy. The 65% Burn chance is somewhat inconsistent without Effect Hit Rate investment, so building Effect RES PEN or relying on the Technique’s guaranteed multi-target Burn is important for getting the DoT online reliably at the start of fights.
Enhanced Skill – Hey! Remember Hook? (Enhanced)
The powered-up version of the Skill, available only after using Hook’s Ultimate. Deals Fire Blast DMG to a primary target (up to 175% ATK) and additional Fire DMG to adjacent enemies (up to 78% ATK). Also maintains the 65% base chance to Burn the primary target. This Enhanced version is Hook’s most impactful attack since it hits multiple enemies — a key distinction from her standard single-target Skill and what makes her occasionally useful in multi-target content. Generates 30 Energy.
Ultimate – Boom! Here Comes the Fire!
Deals Fire DMG to a single target equal to up to 240% ATK at max Trace level. After using the Ultimate, the next Skill activation is automatically Enhanced into the Blast version. This two-hit combo of Ultimate into Enhanced Skill is the cornerstone of Hook’s damage rotation. Costs 120 Energy — moderate, and made more accessible by her passive Energy generation from the Talent.
Talent – Ha! Oil to the Flames!
Whenever Hook attacks an enemy afflicted with Burn, she deals Additional Fire DMG equal to up to 65% ATK and regenerates 5 Energy. This fires on every attack against a Burned target — Basic ATK, Skill, and Enhanced Skill all trigger it. The self-sustaining Energy loop this creates is significant: in a fight where all enemies are Burned, Hook generates 5 bonus Energy on every single action. Combined with the A2 Trace’s HP restoration and the A6 Trace’s action advance, the Talent keeps her rotating quickly and healthily throughout sustained fights.
Technique – Ack! Look at This Mess!
Immediately attacks nearby enemies. Upon entering combat, deals Fire DMG to a random enemy and has a 100% base chance to Burn all enemies for 2 turns. Always use this before every fight — guaranteed Burn on the entire enemy lineup means the Talent fires on Hook’s very first action, generating Energy and dealing Additional DMG immediately from turn one.
Major Traces
- Innocence (A2): Hook restores HP equal to 5% of her Max HP whenever her Talent is triggered. Since the Talent fires on every attack against a Burned enemy, this provides consistent passive self-healing throughout combat. Hook has a relatively large 1,340 base HP at level 80 (the highest of the early 4-star DPS characters), and her minor traces add +18% HP. The result is that she heals herself for a meaningful amount per Talent proc — improving her durability without needing dedicated healing from teammates in easier content
- Naivete (A4): The chance to resist Crowd Control debuffs increases by 35%. A defensive quality-of-life trace that keeps Hook functional in fights with enemy CC. Prevents her from being locked out of her rotation at critical moments
- Playing With Fire (A6): When Hook uses her Ultimate, her action is advanced forward by 20% and she regenerates 5 additional Energy. The action advance means Hook acts again sooner after her Ultimate, letting her fire the Enhanced Skill quickly while the buff is still relevant. The Energy regeneration supplements the Talent’s passive gain, further reducing the effective cost of her Ultimate cycle. This trace is the reason Hook is faster in practice than her 94 base SPD suggests
Hook Best Light Cones (4.3)
1. Something Irreplaceable (Best in Slot – 5-Star)
A strong 5-star Destruction cone for Hook. It increases her ATK by 24% and restores HP after defeating an enemy or being attacked. While that HP restoration is active, it further increases Hook’s DMG until the end of her next turn. Since Hook attacks Burned enemies frequently (activating the Talent on every attack), the DMG buff from this cone’s HP restoration trigger can stack with her other Burn-conditional bonuses for burst windows. If you have this cone available and are not using it on another Destruction character, it is a solid choice for Hook.
2. On the Fall of an Aeon (Best F2P – Herta’s Store)
Available for free using Undying Embers from the Simulated Universe and widely recommended for Hook by dbltap and other sources. It stacks ATK% up to 4 times as Hook attacks — since she attacks every turn and the Talent fires additional hits, she maintains stacks consistently. It also provides a DMG bonus for 2 turns after inflicting Weakness Break. Hook’s high single-target Toughness damage (30 on her Ultimate) means Weakness Breaks happen regularly in appropriate fights. Superimpose this over time for maximum benefit.
3. A Secret Vow (4-Star)
Provides ATK% and a bonus DMG% when the target’s Max HP is equal to or greater than Hook’s Max HP — which is usually the case against bosses and Elites. A clean and accessible 4-star option with no specific Burn requirement. Widely available from standard banner pulls.
4. Woof! Walk Time! (4-Star – Forgotten Hall Shop)
Increases ATK by 10% and boosts DMG dealt to enemies afflicted with Burn or Bleed by 16%. Purchasable from the Forgotten Hall Shop for 200 Lucent Afterglow — completely free to obtain. The Burn conditional activates constantly in Hook’s kit since she maintains Burn uptime as a core mechanic. A clean, free-to-play choice that synergises directly with her Burn-exploitation playstyle.
5. Under the Blue Sky (4-Star)
Provides ATK% and, after defeating an enemy, increases CRIT Rate by 12% for 3 turns. In content with multiple enemies where Hook can score kills, the CRIT Rate bonus activates reliably. A decent alternative for players who have it available.
Hook Best Relic Sets (4.3)
Firesmith of Lava-Forging (4-Piece) – Best Straightforward Option
The dedicated Fire relic set and a clean best-in-slot choice for Hook. The 2-piece gives +10% Fire DMG. The 4-piece gives +12% Skill DMG and a further +12% Fire DMG for 1 turn after using her Ultimate. Hook’s rotation is built around using her Ultimate and then immediately firing the Enhanced Skill — meaning the 4-piece Fire DMG bonus is active for her Enhanced Skill hit every single rotation. Both bonuses apply directly to her two most important damage actions. Widely recommended across multiple sources including dbltap and Sportskeeda.
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters (4-Piece) – Best Conditional Option
The top relic choice when Burn and additional debuffs are consistently active. The 2-piece gives +12% DMG against debuffed enemies — Burn counts, and is always active when Hook attacks optimally. The 4-piece gives +4% CRIT Rate and +8–12% CRIT DMG against enemies with 2 or more debuffs. With Burn as one debuff, adding a second debuff from a support (Pela’s DEF shred, Welt’s Slow, or Silver Wolf’s implanted Weakness) meets the 2-debuff threshold consistently. When the full 4-piece activates, this set outperforms Firesmith. Game8 and Dexerto both recommend it as her best relic set in team contexts where the conditions are met.
Firesmith of Lava-Forging (2) + Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters (2)
A transitional combination that covers both Fire DMG and DMG against debuffed enemies cleanly. Use this while farming for a complete 4-piece set with good substats. No awkward conditional requirements at the 2-piece level.
Hook Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)
Rutilant Arena (Best CRIT Build)
Provides +8% CRIT Rate and, when CRIT Rate reaches 70% or higher, increases Basic ATK and Skill DMG by 20%. Both bonuses directly benefit Hook’s most frequently used actions. The 20% Skill DMG boost applies to her standard Skill and Enhanced Skill alike. Dexerto recommends this as her best ornament. Reach the 70% CRIT Rate threshold through relic substats and body piece to activate the conditional consistently.
Space Sealing Station (ATK Alternative)
Provides +12% ATK with an additional +12% at 120 SPD. Hook’s base SPD is only 94 — reaching 120 requires SPD boots and substats or support buffs from Asta. If SPD boots are not in the build and 120 SPD is not reliably reached, only the base +12% ATK applies. Use this if CRIT Rate is already high enough from relic pieces and you want to push ATK instead.
Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern (Fire-Weak Content)
Provides SPD and a +40% Break Effect bonus for 1 turn after hitting a Fire-weak enemy. The Break Effect bonus is irrelevant for Hook’s damage, but the SPD from the ornament is always valuable given her 94 base SPD. A situational alternative in content specifically featuring Fire-weak enemies where the SPD contribution helps her rotation speed.
Hook Best Stats and Substats (4.3)
Main Stats
- Body: CRIT Rate
- Boots: SPD (reach 120+ to activate Space Sealing Station; more SPD offsets her low 94 base)
- Planar Sphere (Orb): Fire DMG Boost
- Link Rope: ATK%
Substat Priority
- CRIT Rate (aim for 60–70%+ — needed for Rutilant Arena bonus and reliable damage spikes)
- CRIT DMG (aim for 130%+)
- ATK% and Flat ATK (scales all of her Fire DMG)
- SPD (reach 120 for Space Sealing Station if using that ornament; more SPD means faster rotation cycles)
- Effect Hit Rate (minor — helps Burn application land more consistently if running below 100% effective hit rate)
Hook’s minor traces provide a generous +28% ATK, +18% HP, and +13.3% CRIT DMG — giving her a solid ATK and CRIT floor from traces alone. This means her relic budget can focus primarily on CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG without needing to compensate for low base offensive stats. Her HP pool (1,340 base + 18% from traces) is actually quite high for a DPS character — combined with her A2 Trace’s self-healing on Talent procs, she can sometimes survive without dedicated healing in easier content.
Hook Best Team Compositions (4.3)
Best Standard Team: Hook, Tingyun, Pela, Gallagher/Natasha
A strong and accessible team built entirely from standard banner characters. Tingyun is Hook’s best support — she provides ATK% buffs and Energy Regeneration that help Hook cycle her Ultimate faster, enabling more Enhanced Skill Blast windows per fight. Pela adds free DEF shred and, crucially, her Skill applies a debuff that contributes to Pioneer Diver’s 2-debuff threshold alongside Hook’s Burn. Gallagher sustains with his Besotted mechanic — his Fire element and Break Effect scaling also synergise naturally with a Fire DPS team.
Fire Synergy Team: Hook, Guinaifen, Asta, Gallagher
Guinaifen pairs naturally with Hook. Guinaifen’s Talent applies Firekiss stacks whenever Burn ticks — including Hook’s Burn — increasing all damage enemies take by up to 21%. This passive DMG vulnerability applies to every one of Hook’s attacks without requiring any player action beyond keeping Burn active. Asta provides SPD and ATK buffs that address Hook’s low base SPD and push her rotation speed significantly. Gallagher sustains as a natural Fire team member.
Kafka DoT Team: Kafka, Hook, Ruan Mei/Black Swan, Gallagher
Kafka‘s follow-up attacks detonate Hook’s Burn for burst Fire DoT damage. Hook maintains Burn uptime reliably while dealing her own direct damage, and Kafka converts each Burn tick into an immediate burst hit. Ruan Mei amplifies Break and DMG, extending Weakness Break windows. Gallagher rounds out the team. A DoT-flavoured team where Hook’s sustained Burn output is actively exploited.
Early Game: Hook, Asta, March 7th, Natasha
A classic beginner team using characters available early in the game. Asta provides SPD and ATK buffs, helping Hook reach higher action counts despite her slow 94 base SPD. March 7th provides shields and Freeze for crowd control, protecting Hook through tough encounters. Natasha heals — though Hook’s own A2 Trace self-healing reduces how much Natasha needs to do. A reliable setup for story content and early Simulated Universe runs.
Characters Who Work Well With Hook
- Tingyun – Best support; ATK% buff and Energy Regen accelerates Ultimate cycling
- Guinaifen – Firekiss from Hook’s Burn ticks; passive team-wide DMG vulnerability
- Asta – SPD and ATK buffs; compensates for Hook’s low 94 base SPD
- Kafka – Detonates Hook’s Burn for burst DoT damage
- Pela – DEF shred and second debuff for Pioneer Diver’s threshold
- Gallagher – Natural Fire team sustain with Break Effect scaling
- Ruan Mei – Break and DMG support in Fire-weak content
- Luocha – SP-positive sustain; his Skill targets Hook directly on occasion, which doesn’t trigger any specific interaction but keeps the team’s SP positive
- Silver Wolf – Can implant Fire Weakness on any enemy and applies a third debuff for Pioneer Diver’s bonus
Hook Eidolons – Are They Worth It?
Hook is a standard banner character who accumulates Eidolons naturally over time. Her Eidolons are meaningful quality-of-life upgrades that make her noticeably stronger in practice.
E1 – Early to Bed. Early to Rise
The Enhanced Skill deals 20% increased DMG. Since the Enhanced Skill fires after every Ultimate use and is Hook’s most powerful attack in her rotation, this is a flat 20% boost to her biggest hit every single cycle. A clean and impactful E1 that improves her signature combo every time it fires.
E2 – Happy Tummy. Happy Body
Extends the duration of Burn caused by the Skill by 1 additional turn (from 2 turns to 3 turns). This dramatically improves Hook’s Burn uptime — she can now maintain Burn on her target for 3 turns before needing to reapply, reducing how frequently she needs to use her Skill purely for DoT maintenance. It gives her more flexibility to use Basic ATK for Energy generation without losing Burn coverage. A very practical E2 that smooths out her rotation considerably.
E4 – It’s Okay to Not Know
When the Talent is triggered, there is now a 100% base chance to Burn adjacent enemies as well. This is where Hook starts to feel like a genuine Destruction character — Burn spreading passively to adjacent targets on every Talent proc means that nearby enemies catch fire just from Hook attacking the main target. In fights with 3 enemies, E4 Hook’s Burn coverage becomes near-automatic.
E6 – Always Ready to Punch and Kick
Hook deals 20% more DMG to enemies inflicted with Burn. Since Hook almost exclusively attacks Burned enemies — that is the entire point of her kit — this is effectively a permanent +20% DMG bonus to every attack she makes. A very strong E6 that significantly raises her personal damage ceiling and makes her competitive with other invested 4-star DPS characters.
Recommended stopping point: E2. E0 Hook is fully functional in early and mid-game content. E1 boosts her signature combo. E2 extends Burn duration and makes her rotation significantly smoother. E4 is a genuine power upgrade for multi-enemy fights. All are worth having naturally — never pull specifically for Hook Eidolons, but accept them gratefully from standard banner accumulation.
Hook Rotation Guide
Hook’s rotation is clean and easy to learn:
- Use the Technique before every combat — 100% base chance to Burn all enemies at battle start. The Talent fires immediately on Hook’s first action against any Burned target
- On the first turn, use the Skill on the primary target. This maintains Burn and deals the highest direct damage per SP. The Talent fires and restores 5 Energy on each Burned attack
- Use Basic ATK as a filler on turns when conserving SP. Against Burned enemies, the Talent still fires on Basic ATK hits — this means Hook generates Energy even on her filler turns
- Use the Ultimate when 120 Energy is reached. The A6 Trace advances her action and restores 5 additional Energy. After the Ultimate, the next Skill use is automatically enhanced
- Use the Enhanced Skill immediately after the Ultimate — this is Hook’s peak damage window, hitting the primary target and adjacent enemies simultaneously while the Firesmith 4-piece Fire DMG bonus is active
- Return to the Skill/Basic ATK rotation. The Talent’s Energy generation ensures the cycle repeats within 4–5 turns even without external Energy support
The key discipline: always maintain Burn uptime on the primary target. Every turn Hook attacks a non-Burned enemy is a turn the Talent does not fire, additional DMG is not generated, and no bonus Energy is restored. Use the Technique at battle start and the Skill whenever Burn is about to expire to keep the Talent loop running consistently.

Is Hook Worth Using in Patch 4.3?
Hook is worth investing in for newer and mid-game players — especially those who need a free Fire DPS for Belobog content and Fire-weak enemies. Prydwen’s review is honest: she is more like an honorary Hunt unit than a proper Destruction AoE character, and more and better generalist characters exist for endgame use. Her damage ceiling is modest compared to limited 5-star options, and she struggles in pure multi-target scenarios without her Enhanced Skill available.
That said, her genuine strengths are real. She generates Energy faster than most 4-star DPS characters thanks to her Talent’s 5 Energy per Burned attack and A6 Trace’s bonus Energy on Ultimate. She has impressive HP and A2 Trace self-healing that reduces how much your sustain character needs to do. Her single-target Toughness damage is high — 30 on her Ultimate alone. And with E2, her Burn uptime becomes very comfortable to manage.
For players who enjoy her character and want to invest in a Belobog-native DPS, she is a rewarding build project. For veterans with access to Firefly or other premium Fire DPS units, Hook serves best as a content-specific option or a second-team filler in Fire-weak stages.
