- Sushang is a 4-star Physical Hunt DPS who deals extra Physical damage through Sword Stance — an additional hit that triggers on a 33% chance from Skill, and is guaranteed whenever an enemy is Weakness Broken.
- She has two viable build paths: a CRIT DPS build for standard content and a Break Effect build that synergises with Break teams including The Dahlia and Ruan Mei.
- Her Talent boosts SPD by 20% for 2 turns whenever any enemy on the field is Weakness Broken — she can be deceptively fast in sustained Break fights.
- Her A6 trace advances her action by 15% after every Basic ATK or Skill used against Weakness Broken enemies — giving her near-constant self-advancement in Break windows.
- Her Ultimate grants 100% Action Advance (immediate extra turn), a 30% ATK boost, and 2 extra Sword Stance chances for 2 turns. Best used just before a Skill against a Broken enemy for up to 3 guaranteed Sword Stance procs.
- E0 Sushang is SP-negative. Always pair with SP-positive supports or run E1, which refunds 1 SP per Skill use against Broken enemies and is the single most impactful investment.
- Best Light Cone (Break build): Sailing Towards a Second Life (Boothill’s signature). Best Light Cone (CRIT build): In the Night (Seele’s signature). Best 4-star: Swordplay.
- Best Relics (Break): Champion of Streetwise Boxing or Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge + Talia: Kingdom of Banditry. Best Relics (CRIT): Champion of Streetwise Boxing + Rutilant Arena.
- Best teams: Sushang / Fugue / The Dahlia / Lingsha (premium Break) and Sushang / Ruan Mei / Trailblazer (Harmony) / Gallagher (accessible).
- Sushang is a 4-star permanently available in the gacha pool. She was a rate-up in the Version 4.2 banner. She is an excellent free investment for players who cannot pull 5-star Physical DPS.

Who Is Sushang in Honkai Star Rail?
Sushang is a 4-star Physical character following the Path of The Hunt in Honkai Star Rail. She is one of the launch characters and has been available in the game since Version 1.0. She was featured as a rate-up in the Version 4.2 banner (May–June 2026), making her easier to acquire for players who need extra copies for Eidolons.
In the game’s lore, Sushang is a naive and enthusiastic newcomer to the Cloud Knights stationed on the Xianzhou Luofu. She wields a greatsword and yearns for the historic legends of the Cloud Knights, eager to carve her own place among them. Her cheerful determination and earnest dedication to helping others define her character — she firmly believes in doing one good deed a day and reflecting on herself three times. That same earnest energy translates into a combat style that is more persistent and scrappy than flashy, chipping away at enemies through relentless Skill use and taking full advantage of Weakness Breaks.
In terms of current meta standing, Sushang sits at T5 in endgame content as of patch 4.3. She is not a competitive choice against the newest 5-star DPS characters, but she remains a genuinely solid F2P option for players who cannot pull limited 5-stars. Her Break synergy has given her a second wind in the current meta — The Dahlia and Fugue both significantly boost her output in Break compositions, and her self-advancement mechanics make her surprisingly action-efficient in Weakness Break windows. Sushang Kit Overview – How Her Abilities Work
Sushang’s kit is built around a simple but rewarding loop: use Skill, trigger Sword Stance against Broken enemies, gain SPD and Action Advance from the Weakness Break state, and chain rapid Skill uses before enemies can act. Every ability feeds into this cycle.
Basic Attack – Cloudfencer Art: Single Slash
Deals Physical DMG equal to 100% of Sushang’s ATK to a single enemy. Generates Energy and, when used against a Weakness Broken enemy, triggers her A6 trace’s 15% Action Advance. In normal rotations, Basic ATK is used when Skill Points are low or when you need Energy without spending SP. Against Broken enemies, even a Basic ATK provides a small but meaningful turn acceleration through the A6 advance.
Skill – Cloudfencer Art: Mountainfall
Deals Physical DMG equal to 210% of Sushang’s ATK to a single enemy. Has a 33% chance to trigger Sword Stance — an additional Physical DMG hit equal to 100% of her ATK. If the enemy is Weakness Broken, Sword Stance is guaranteed to trigger. This is Sushang’s primary damage ability and the core of her rotation. Against a Broken enemy, every Skill use is both a 210% hit and a 100% bonus hit, making the effective output 310% per Skill use in the Weakness Break state. The Skill also triggers the A6 Action Advance (15%) when used against a Broken enemy. At E0, the Skill costs 1 SP per use with no refund, making SP economy a primary team-building concern.
Ultimate – Shape of Taixu: Dawn Herald
Deals Physical DMG equal to 320% of Sushang’s ATK to a single enemy and immediately advances her action forward by 100% — she acts again right after the Ultimate fires. Additionally, for the next 2 turns:
- Sushang’s ATK increases by 30%.
- Using her Skill has 2 extra chances to trigger Sword Stance (in addition to the standard 33% base chance or guarantee on Broken enemies). Sword Stance triggered from these extra chances deals 50% of normal Sword Stance damage.
The optimal Ultimate usage: fire it when an enemy is Weakness Broken, then immediately use Skill on the next turn. Against a Broken enemy with the Ultimate buff active, Sushang gets the guaranteed Sword Stance plus 2 more chances — effectively 3 Sword Stance triggers at once. That’s 210% Skill + 100% first Sword Stance + 50% × 2 from extra chances = 410% total ATK in one action. This is the peak of Sushang’s damage output and should be engineered every fight cycle.
Talent – Dancing Blade
Whenever any enemy on the field is Weakness Broken, Sushang’s SPD increases by 20% for 2 turns. At E6, this stacks twice (40% SPD total) and she gains 1 free starting stack at battle start. The SPD boost is powerful because it stacks with her A6 Action Advance — when an enemy is Broken, Sushang both gains 20% SPD and advances 15% per action, allowing her to act far more frequently than her base stats suggest. Against a boss that can be kept in Weakness Break throughout the fight, Sushang approaches near-Seele-level action frequency at E6.
A2 Trace – Alert Instinct
When Sushang’s current HP is 50% or lower, reduces the chance of being targeted by enemies. A passive survivability trace that protects Sushang from being focused at low HP. Useful in content where she is not the primary taunt target and could be burst down before her next Skill use.
A4 Trace – Repel the Enemy
For every time Sword Stance is triggered, the DMG dealt by subsequent Sword Stance hits increases by 2.5%, stacking up to 10 times (25% total). This is a passive accumulation bonus that rewards frequent Sword Stance triggers. Over a sustained fight where Sushang consistently Breaks enemies and chains Skill uses, the Sword Stance DMG bonus ramps to maximum, providing a meaningful sustained DPS increase. The stacks persist throughout a battle and do not reset between rotations within the same fight.
A6 Trace – Honed Blade
After using Basic ATK or Skill, if there are enemies on the field with Weakness Break, Sushang’s action is immediately Advanced Forward by 15%. This trace is what makes Sushang genuinely fast in Break windows — every single action she takes while enemies are Broken adds a 15% advance on top of her SPD. Combined with the Talent’s 20% SPD bonus, Sushang effectively gains a 35%+ combined action economy boost during sustained Break windows. This self-advancement is the reason Break-focused builds prioritise maintaining Weakness Break as consistently as possible — it directly multiplies her turn frequency and therefore her total Skill damage output.
Technique – Shape of Taixu: Mountainfall
Immediately attacks nearby enemies. Upon entering battle, Sushang deals Physical DMG equal to 80% of her ATK to all enemies. This is a useful opener — the AoE Physical hit is Sushang’s only real multi-target damage ability and helps chip enemies at the start of combat. Always use the Technique before entering fights for the free opening damage and the immediate action after battle starts.
Sushang Best Light Cones in HSR
Sushang follows the Path of The Hunt. Only Hunt path Light Cones trigger passive effects on her. Her best Light Cone depends on which build path you are running — Break Effect or CRIT DPS.
Sailing Towards a Second Life (Boothill’s Signature – Best for Break Build)
This is Sushang’s best-in-slot Light Cone for Break Effect-focused builds. It provides 60–100% Break Effect at S1, which is an extraordinary head-start toward the 250%+ threshold for maximum Break DMG. When Break Effect exceeds 150%, Sushang ignores 12–20% of enemy DEF on Break DMG. When Break Effect exceeds 250%, her SPD increases by 12–20% as well. All three effects — Break Effect, DEF ignore on Break DMG, and SPD — are directly useful in Sushang’s Break archetype build. The DEF ignore stacks multiplicatively with Iron Cavalry’s DEF ignore and Ruan Mei’s DEF reduction for a powerful combined penetration package. If you own this from Boothill’s banner, it is the clear choice for a Break Sushang.
In the Night (Seele’s Signature – Best for CRIT Build)
Sushang’s best Light Cone for CRIT DPS builds. It provides CRIT Rate and scales Basic ATK and Skill DMG based on SPD exceeding 100 (roughly +6% Basic/Skill DMG per 10 SPD points above 100, up to a limit). Since Sushang gains 20% SPD from her Talent during Weakness Breaks and 15% Action Advance from A6, she naturally reaches high SPD values in combat — making the In the Night scaling reliably active. The CRIT Rate base and the speed-scaled DMG bonus combine well with her consistent Skill spam. Borrow this from Seele if Seele is not using it or if you have a second copy.
Swordplay (4-Star – Best F2P Dedicated Option)
A Hunt-path 4-star Light Cone that provides stacking DMG increases each time Sushang attacks the same enemy (up to 5 stacks, max 25% DMG at S5). In single-target boss fights where Sushang focuses one enemy throughout, Swordplay maintains maximum stacks consistently — aligning perfectly with her single-target playstyle. At S5, this is competitive with some 5-star alternatives and is freely obtainable from the regular gacha pool. If you do not have either of the above 5-stars, get Swordplay to S5 first.
Cruising in the Stellar Sea (4-Star – Herta Store)
Obtainable from the Herta Store. Provides CRIT Rate and an additional CRIT Rate bonus when the target’s HP is at or below 50%. Also provides an ATK buff on enemy kills. A solid all-around CRIT rate Light Cone that helps Sushang reach reliable crit thresholds without as much substat investment. Use this if Swordplay is unavailable or if CRIT Rate is the limiting stat in your build.
Under the Blue Sky (4-Star)
Provides 32% ATK and a CRIT Rate boost when Sushang defeats an enemy. Good in wave content where she kills enemies frequently. Since Sushang is single-target focused, the kill condition is less reliable in boss fights, but the raw ATK boost is always useful. A backup option at S5 when other choices are unavailable.
Sushang Best Relics in HSR
Sushang has two distinct relic setups depending on your build path. The core philosophy for both is the same: maximise Sushang’s primary scaling stat (CRIT for DPS builds, Break Effect for Break builds) and ensure her SPD is high enough to benefit from the Talent’s 20% boost and A6’s 15% Action Advance.
Best 4-Piece Relic Set (Both Builds): Champion of Streetwise Boxing
The best general relic set for Sushang in most scenarios. The 2-piece provides 10% Physical DMG Bonus, directly scaling all her hits including Sword Stance. The 4-piece provides stacking ATK buffs: whenever Sushang attacks or gets hit, she gains 5% ATK (up to 5 stacks, 25% total). Since Sushang attacks constantly through Skill and Sword Stance chains, the 4-piece quickly reaches maximum stacks and stays there throughout most fights. Physical DMG scaling paired with compounding ATK makes this set reliable and effective in both build directions. Farm this as the primary set for Sushang.
Alternative (Break Build): Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge
For Break-focused Sushang builds, Iron Cavalry is a strong alternative. The 2-piece gives 16% Break Effect. The 4-piece ignores 15% DEF on Break DMG at 150%+ Break Effect and an additional 25% DEF on Super Break DMG at 250%+ Break Effect. In a Sushang Break team with The Dahlia’s Gloomy Zone enabling Super Break, the full 40% DEF ignore from the 4-piece applies to every Sword Stance trigger on a Broken enemy. Worth farming if you plan to invest heavily in Break Sushang.
Best Planar Ornament (CRIT Build): Rutilant Arena
Sushang’s best Planar Ornament for CRIT-focused builds. Provides CRIT Rate and, when CRIT Rate exceeds 70%, a 20% bonus to Basic ATK and Skill DMG. The Skill DMG bonus applies directly to Sushang’s primary damage source. Reach 70%+ CRIT Rate through relics and team buffs to consistently activate the full bonus.
Best Planar Ornament (Break Build): Talia: Kingdom of Banditry
Sushang’s best Planar Ornament for Break builds. Provides Break Effect and an additional Break Effect bonus when SPD exceeds 145. With Sushang’s Talent granting 20% SPD during Weakness Breaks, hitting 145 SPD base is achievable with moderate investment. The combined Break Effect from this ornament helps push toward the 250% threshold for maximum Iron Cavalry DEF ignore.
Relic Main Stats to Target
- Head: HP (fixed)
- Hands: ATK (fixed)
- Body: CRIT Rate (CRIT build) or Break Effect% (Break build)
- Feet: SPD — aim for 134+ base (143+ for enhanced Talent and A6 thresholds, 160+ for high SPD builds)
- Planar Sphere: Physical DMG Bonus (both builds)
- Link Rope: ATK% (CRIT build) or Break Effect% (Break build)
Key Substat Priority
CRIT build: CRIT Rate to 70%+ → CRIT DMG → ATK% → SPD. Break build: Break Effect% toward 200–250% → SPD → ATK%. For both builds, always prioritise SPD substats enough to reach the 134+ base threshold that enables consistent Talent activation and A6 Action Advance uptime.
Stat Targets
- CRIT Build: 70%+ CRIT Rate, 120–140%+ CRIT DMG, 2,000+ ATK, 134–160+ SPD
- Break Build: 200–250%+ Break Effect, 134–160+ SPD, 1,800+ ATK
Sushang Best Teams in HSR 4.3
All Sushang teams share one critical constraint: managing SP economy. At E0, Sushang’s Skill costs 1 SP per use with no refund. She cannot sustain Skill spam without SP-positive teammates. E1 fixes this (1 SP refund on Skill against Broken enemies), but until then, pair her exclusively with SP-neutral or SP-positive supports.
Premium Break Team: Sushang / Fugue / The Dahlia / Lingsha
This is Sushang’s best team for endgame content in patch 4.3. Tingyun • Fugue provides Break Effect buffs for the whole team, increases Super Break multipliers, applies Exo-Toughness to enemies for additional Break instances, and gives Sushang Foxian Prayer for SP management. The Dahlia enables pre-Break Super Break through the Gloomy Zone, applies Wilt DEF shred on all enemies, and implants Physical Weakness (matching Sushang’s element) on all enemies through her Ultimate — ensuring Sword Stance always triggers against Broken targets. Lingsha sustains while dealing AoE Toughness damage and applying a 25% Break DMG Taken debuff. The combined Gloomy Zone pre-Break conversion, Wilt DEF shred, Iron Cavalry DEF ignore, and Fugue’s Super Break multiplier pushes Sushang’s Sword Stance damage to significantly higher numbers than any other team composition.
Accessible Break Team: Sushang / Ruan Mei / Trailblazer (Harmony) / Gallagher
Ruan Mei provides 50% Weakness Break Efficiency (enemies take more Toughness damage), extending Weakness Break durations and making it far easier to keep enemies in the Broken state throughout Sushang’s Skill chains. The passive DMG% buff and SPD bonus help Sushang cycle faster. Trailblazer (Harmony) enables Super Break DMG for the team and provides SP economy through their kit. Gallagher sustains with his Besotted Break DMG Taken debuff active on enemies and maintains SP neutrality through his SP-efficient healing pattern. This is the most accessible Break team for Sushang and performs well in all endgame content.
Classic F2P Team: Sushang / Pela / Tingyun / Natasha
Pela applies DEF reduction on enemies (stacks with Sushang’s Physical damage), is SP-positive, and provides a debuff that stacks Crimson Knot in content with Acheron teams (though here she primarily serves as DEF shred). Tingyun provides ATK buff and Energy restoration — getting Sushang’s Ultimate out faster means more 100% Action Advances and more three-Sword-Stance windows per fight. Natasha heals. This team uses no 5-star limited characters and is entirely F2P accessible. It clears most standard content and early Memory of Chaos stages.
Silver Wolf Physical Team: Sushang / Silver Wolf / Ruan Mei / Gallagher
Silver Wolf can implant Physical Weakness on any enemy that does not have it — ensuring Sushang always has a Weakness to Break regardless of enemy composition. This removes Sushang’s biggest natural limitation (enemies without Physical Weakness cannot be broken by her). With Silver Wolf implanting Physical Weakness and Ruan Mei extending Break durations, Sushang maintains near-constant Broken enemy uptime. Gallagher sustains. A reliable team for content where Physical Weakness is not naturally present.
Notable Partner Notes
- Tingyun • Fugue — S+ amplifier for Break Sushang. Super Break multiplier + Exo-Toughness + SP management.
- The Dahlia — S+ amplifier for Break Sushang. Pre-Break Super Break + Physical Weakness implant + DEF shred.
- Ruan Mei — Extends Weakness Break duration, allowing more Skill uses per Break window. Essential for maximising A6 and Talent uptime.
- Silver Wolf — Implants Physical Weakness on any enemy. Removes Sushang’s primary restriction against non-Physical-Weak enemies.
- Pela — Free DEF reduction + SP-positive. Best F2P amplifier for Sushang.
- Tingyun — ATK buff + Energy restore for faster Ultimates. SP-positive and accessible.
- Gallagher — Best sustain for Break teams. Besotted debuff adds Break DMG Taken on enemies.
Sushang Trace Priority
- Skill – First. The Skill is Sushang’s primary damage source. Higher Skill level increases the 210% ATK multiplier and the Sword Stance 100% ATK bonus. Since she uses Skill on virtually every turn in an optimal rotation, every level is a direct and compounding DPS improvement. Max this first without question.
- Ultimate – Second. Higher Ultimate level increases the 320% ATK multiplier of the main hit, the ATK boost (toward 30%), and the Sword Stance extra chances’ 50% DMG multiplier. The Ultimate is Sushang’s single largest damage action and the source of her burst windows. Level this alongside Skill.
- A6 Trace – Unlock immediately. The 15% Action Advance on every action against Broken enemies is one of the strongest passive bonuses in her kit. Without it, her turn frequency is merely good. With it, she approaches exceptional speed during sustained Break windows. Unlock this trace as soon as ascension materials allow.
- Talent – Third. Higher Talent level increases the SPD bonus from 15% toward 20% max. More SPD means more actions, more Sword Stance triggers, and more A6 advances. Meaningful per level but lower priority than the direct damage abilities.
- A4 Trace – Unlock after A6. The 2.5% Sword Stance DMG stacking (up to 10 stacks) rewards sustained fights where she chains many Sword Stance triggers. Not urgent but valuable in longer boss encounters.
- Basic Attack – Last. Used occasionally for Energy generation when SP is tight. Contributes minimal damage. Level minimally.
Sushang Eidolons – Which Ones Are Worth It?
Sushang is a 4-star character, meaning multiple copies are often obtainable over time through banners, events, and the Starlight Exchange. Her Eidolons are impactful and worth pursuing, with E1 being the top priority and E6 genuinely transforming her playstyle.
E1 – Essential First Investment (First Priority)
After using Skill against a Weakness Broken enemy, Sushang regenerates 1 Skill Point. This single change transforms Sushang’s fundamental playability. At E0, she is SP-negative — every Skill use costs 1 SP with no recovery, meaning teams must generate extra SP just to keep her Skill spam going. At E1, every Skill use against a Broken enemy is SP-neutral (1 cost, 1 refund). She can chain Skills as long as the enemy remains Broken without burdening the team’s SP economy at all. Community guides unanimously rate E1 as Sushang’s single most impactful investment. Pull this as the first Eidolon target.
E2 – Survivability Upgrade
After triggering Sword Stance, Sushang takes 20% reduced damage for 1 turn. This is a defensive bonus that activates very frequently given how often she triggers Sword Stance in Break windows. Against content with frequent boss attacks, the rolling 20% damage reduction makes Sushang substantially harder to kill. Not as impactful as E1 for DPS but meaningfully improves survival without a dedicated shielder.
E4 – Break Effect Ramp (Excellent for Break Build)
Sushang’s Break Effect increases by 40%. This is a massive passive addition for Break builds — +40% Break Effect at no cost creates a compounding positive feedback loop: more Break Effect means faster Toughness depletion, which means more frequent Weakness Breaks, which means more Sword Stance guarantees, more SPD from Talent, and more A6 advances per rotation. For players running Break Sushang, E4 is highly valuable and represents a meaningful damage improvement. For CRIT DPS builds, it is less relevant but still provides minor Break utility.
E6 – Seele-Level Turn Frequency
The Talent’s SPD boost becomes stackable (up to 2 stacks, totalling 40% SPD) and Sushang starts every battle with 1 free Talent stack already active. At E6, Sushang enters combat with 20% SPD already boosted and gains another 20% whenever enemies are Weakness Broken on the field — reaching 40% SPD total in active Break windows. Combined with A6’s 15% Action Advance per attack and her Ultimate’s 100% instant advance, E6 Sushang approaches the action frequency of top-tier Hunt DPS characters. In sustained boss fights where Physical Weakness is consistently broken, E6 Sushang is genuinely impressive for a 4-star character. Worth pursuing when multiple copies naturally accumulate through banner pulls.
Sushang Rotation Guide – How to Play Her
Sushang’s rotation is straightforward once you understand the two-phase structure: build to Ultimate, then chain maximum-value Sword Stance bursts.
Pre-Break Phase
Before the enemy is Weakness Broken, use Sushang’s Skill to deal damage and build Energy. Sword Stance only has a 33% chance to trigger here, so damage is notably lower than in the Broken state. Reserve team resources — healer actions, support Ultimates — for the Broken phase. Focus on reaching Sushang’s Ultimate threshold (120 Energy) so it is ready to fire when the enemy is about to break or has just broken.
Break Window – Peak Damage Phase
When the enemy is Weakness Broken:
- Fire Sushang’s Ultimate immediately. She takes another turn right away. Her ATK increases by 30% and she gains 2 extra Sword Stance chances for 2 turns.
- Use Skill immediately on the extra turn. Sword Stance is guaranteed (enemy is Broken) plus 2 extra Sword Stance chances from Ultimate buff = up to 3 Sword Stance triggers for that Skill (100% + 50% + 50% = 200% total Sword Stance DMG in one Skill use).
- The A6 trace fires a 15% Action Advance. The Talent’s SPD boost is active.
- Use Skill again on the next turn for another guaranteed Sword Stance while the Ultimate ATK buff is still active (2 turns duration). A6 advances again.
- Repeat Skill uses while enemies remain Broken. At E1, each Skill use refunds 1 SP, making the chain self-sustaining.
The goal is to maximise consecutive Skill uses during the Weakness Break window before either the Break expires or the enemy dies. Every second the enemy stays Broken is another guaranteed Sword Stance trigger and another 15% Action Advance from A6.
SP Management
At E0: have teammates use Basic ATK instead of Skill as much as possible to generate SP for Sushang. Run SP-positive supports (Pela, Tingyun, Gallagher). At E1: after E1, Sushang is SP-neutral during Break windows and the team’s SP management becomes significantly easier. The main constraint shifts from “generating enough SP for Sushang” to “not burning SP on non-Sushang actions during her burst window.”
Should You Pull/Build Sushang in HSR 4.3?
You should build Sushang if you have her (she is freely available in the regular gacha pool) and do not have a better Physical DPS option. As a 4-star, she requires no special pulls — just the copies you naturally accumulate. She is a solid investment for accounts without access to 5-star limited Physical DPS characters like Phainon, Yunli, or Feixiao.
Her Break synergy with The Dahlia and Fugue has meaningfully improved her endgame viability compared to earlier patches. Players who already have those supports can extract substantially more damage from Sushang than in the CRIT-only builds of earlier versions.
The honest limitations remain: she is purely single-target with no AoE capability, making Pure Fiction and multi-wave content genuinely difficult. She is completely unsuitable for enemy groups. Her damage ceiling is well below current 5-star DPS options, and she requires E1 to be comfortably SP-neutral. Without Physical Weakness on enemies, her kit loses most of its unique value.
The practical recommendation: build her to E1 at minimum (the SP refund is essential), farm Champion of Streetwise Boxing relics, and pair her with Ruan Mei or The Dahlia for the best results. If you naturally hit E4 from banner pulls, the Break Effect bonus is a free improvement for the Break build. E6 is genuinely impressive and worth pursuing if you find yourself accumulating copies through reruns and Starlight Exchange.
For stronger Physical DPS alternatives, see our guides for Phainon, Yunli, and Clara. For the Break supports that pair best with Sushang, see our guides for The Dahlia, Fugue, Ruan Mei, and Gallagher.
