How To Have A Baby In Paralives is one of those things that sounds simple but has a few steps that can catch you off guard. You cannot just click a crib and wait. There is setup involved, a conversation card to unlock, a pregnancy test to take, and a newborn to care for once the baby arrives. This guide covers everything — pregnancy, adoption, and baby care — in one place.
Note: Paralives launched in Early Access on May 25, 2026. Some features may change as the game updates. This guide reflects the current state of the game and will be updated as new content is added.
TL;DR – Quick Summary
- Set up pregnancy settings in the Paramaker before starting — one Para needs “Can Get Pregnant” and the other needs “Can Get Others Pregnant.”
- Build a strong romantic relationship until the “Ask if they want to try for a baby NOW” Together Card appears.
- Select both Paras as a group, click any bed, and choose “Try for a Baby.”
- After the interaction, click a toilet and choose “Take a Pregnancy Test.”
- If negative, try again right away. If positive, pregnancy lasts 3 in-game days (each trimester is 24 hours).
- The pregnant Para gives birth at home. No need to go to a hospital.
- After birth, name the baby and choose a surname.
- To adopt, visit the Hospital or Pharmacy and select “Adopt Baby.”
- Babies have 5 basic needs you will need to manage constantly.
Before You Try For a Baby – Paramaker Settings
This is the step most players miss. Before you can have a biological baby in Paralives, you need to make sure your Paras are set up correctly. This is done during character creation in the Paramaker.
When creating your Parafolks, click the three dots next to the gender options to open the Advanced Personality options. Inside, go to the Pregnancy tab. Here you will see two key settings:
- Can Get Pregnant – Set this for the Para who will carry the baby.
- Can Get Others Pregnant – Set this for the other Para in the couple.
One Para must be set to each option. Paras are not strictly gendered in Paralives, so any combination works. If you have already created your Paras and forgot to set this up, do not worry. Open the cheat console with Ctrl + F1 and type “editcharacter” to reopen the character creator and make the changes you need.

How To Unlock the “Try for a Baby” Option
You cannot just jump straight to a bed and try for a baby. There is a conversation step first. Here is how to unlock it.
Step 1 – Build a Strong Romantic Relationship
Your two Paras need a solid romantic bond before the baby conversation becomes available. Keep them talking regularly. Use positive green cards to build friendship, then move into pink romantic cards as the relationship grows. The stronger the relationship, the better the success rate on romantic cards.
You do not need to be married to try for a baby in Paralives, but a strong relationship is essential. If your Paras are not yet at the Lovers stage, keep working on the relationship first. For a full walkthrough on building romance, check out our guide on how to get married in Paralives which covers relationship labels and Together Cards in detail.
Step 2 – Get the “Try for a Baby” Want
Once the relationship is strong enough, a Flirty Emotion pop-up will appear on your Para’s emotion panel. This pop-up offers a want: “Try to have a baby with…” Select this want to activate it.
Alternatively, you can find the option through the Discuss Relationship conversation card stack. Inside it, look for the option to ask if your partner wants to have children in the future. If the chance roll succeeds, you will be cleared to start trying.

Step 3 – Use the Together Card
After activating the want, start a conversation with your partner Para. A new pink Together Card will appear: “Ask if they want to try for a baby NOW.” Select this card. If it succeeds, you are ready to move to the bed step.
If the card fails, do not panic. Use a Storyteller card to boost your Flirty and social success chances for 24 in-game hours, then try the card again. You can also just keep building the relationship with positive interactions and try again once the mood improves.

How To Try for a Baby In Paralives
Step 1 – Group Your Two Paras Together
You need both Paras selected at the same time. To do this, hold Shift and click on the second Para while controlling the first. This groups them together. You can also Shift-click on your partner directly.
Step 2 – Click a Bed and Choose “Try for a Baby”
With both Paras grouped, click on any bed in the house. The option “Try for a Baby” will appear in the interaction menu. Select it. Your two Paras will get under the covers together. Wait for the interaction to finish.

Step 3 – Take a Pregnancy Test
As soon as the bed interaction is done, click on any toilet in the house and select “Take a Pregnancy Test.” You will get a result shortly after. If the test comes back negative, you can try again immediately — go right back to the bed. Keep trying until you get a positive result.
Once the test is positive, your Para will receive the Pregnancy status. The pregnancy has officially begun.
What Happens During Pregnancy In Paralives
Pregnancy in Paralives lasts for three in-game days. Each trimester lasts 24 in-game hours. During this time, your pregnant Para may experience morning sickness, which lowers their mood due to discomfort. Keep an eye on their needs and keep them comfortable throughout.
You can visit any Healthcare Center during the pregnancy to find out if you are expecting twins or triplets. This is worth doing early so you can prepare your home with enough space and furniture.
If you want to adjust how long the pregnancy lasts, go to the main menu and open the Storyteller tab. You can change pregnancy duration settings from there to suit your play style.
Want to slow things down so your Para does not age up too fast before the baby arrives? See our guide on how to stop aging and dying in Paralives for ways to manage the aging system.
Giving Birth In Paralives
When the pregnancy is complete, your Para gives birth right at home. There is no need to rush to a hospital or trigger any special event. The birth happens automatically. After the baby arrives, you will be prompted to:
- Name the baby.
- Choose which parent’s surname the baby will carry.
And just like that — you have a new member of the household. Time to get used to less sleep.
How To Adopt a Baby In Paralives
Adoption is available to any household in Paralives, regardless of the Paramaker pregnancy settings. You do not need a romantic relationship or any specific setup to adopt. It is the most flexible way to grow your family.
To adopt a baby, visit one of these two locations in Melino:
- The Hospital — located opposite the Community Center.
- The Pharmacy — located opposite the pizza place.
Interact with either building and select the “Adopt Baby” option. After a few in-game hours, your Para will return home holding a new baby. You will then be prompted to choose a name for the child.
Keep in mind — you cannot choose whether the baby is a boy or a girl when adopting. The result is random. However, since it is determined by RNG, you can save before adopting and reload if you want to try for a specific outcome.
Also note: as of Early Access, adoption is a one-way option. You can adopt a baby in, but you cannot put a baby up for adoption. This may change in future updates.
To find your way to the Hospital or Pharmacy easily, check our guide on how to view the town map in Paralives so you can navigate Melino without getting lost.

How To Care for Your Baby In Paralives
Once the baby is home, the real work begins. Babies in Paralives have 5 basic needs that you need to manage constantly:
- Hunger – Feed the baby regularly.
- Hygiene – Change diapers and keep the baby clean.
- Sleep – Make sure the baby rests in the crib.
- Social – Interact with the baby to keep them happy.
- Fun – Play with the baby and keep them stimulated.
Most baby needs can be handled by simply clicking on the baby with an older Para to see interaction options. To change a diaper, place the baby in the crib first. The diaper change option will then appear under “Pick up from crib.”
One smart thing to do early: talk to your baby regularly. This builds their Talking skill from a very young age, giving them a head start when they grow into a Toddler. It is a small habit that pays off later.
If there are no adult or teen Paras present on the lot to care for the baby, younger Paras will be automatically sent to daycare. This comes with a small fee that shows up in your weekly bills, so make sure someone is always home to look after them.
Tips for Having and Raising a Baby In Paralives
- Set up Paramaker settings before you start. You cannot try for a baby without the correct pregnancy options enabled. Do this during character creation or use the editcharacter cheat to fix it.
- Keep your Para’s mood up during pregnancy. Morning sickness lowers mood, so keep needs topped up and stress low.
- Visit the Healthcare Center during pregnancy to check for twins or triplets early and prepare your home in time.
- Talk to your baby often. It builds the Talking skill and gives them a stronger start as a Toddler.
- Always have a caregiver at home. If your baby is left alone with no adult or teen present, they will be sent to daycare and you will be charged.
- Save before adopting if you want a specific gender outcome, since adoption results are random.
- Use the Storyteller settings to adjust pregnancy length if three days feels too short or too long for your play style.

Do You Need to Be Married to Have a Baby In Paralives?
No. Your Paras do not need to be married to try for a baby in Paralives. They do need a strong romantic relationship to unlock the relevant Together Cards, but marriage is not a requirement. If you do want to get your Paras married first before starting a family, read our full guide on how to get married in Paralives.
Can You Have Twins or Triplets In Paralives?
Yes. Multiple births are possible in Paralives. During the pregnancy, visit any Healthcare Center in Melino to find out if twins or triplets are on the way. This gives you time to prepare extra cribs and space in the house before the birth day arrives.

Final Thoughts
Having a baby in Paralives takes more setup than in most life sim games, but once you understand the steps it all makes sense. Set up your Paramaker settings first, build the relationship, unlock the Together Card, try for a baby at the bed, take a pregnancy test at the toilet, and wait three days for the arrival. Or skip it all and adopt from the Hospital or Pharmacy if you want a quicker route.
Either way, a new baby brings a whole new layer to your household and opens up a generational story worth exploring. Get the official game details at the Paralives website or pick it up on Steam in Early Access if you have not already.
