Who Is Kachina in Genshin Impact?

Kachina is a 4-star Geo Polearm character from Natlan, the Nation of Pyro in Genshin Impact. She was introduced in Version 5.0 alongside Mualani, making her one of the very first playable characters from Natlan. What makes her special is that she is one of the few characters in the game that all players can obtain for free — simply by progressing through the Natlan Archon Quest in the Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn chapter.

Lore-wise, Kachina is a young warrior from the Children of Echoes tribe. Her people live among the Tepetlisauri in the mountains of Natlan and hold the title of Uthabiti in very high regard. Kachina was chosen as the Uthabiti of her tribe — a great honor that she takes seriously, even if she is sometimes nervous about living up to it. She is warm-hearted, persistent, and grows stronger with every challenge she faces. You can play her on Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games, and Xbox.

In combat, Kachina summons a drill called Turbo Twirly that deals continuous off-field Geo DMG. She can also ride Turbo Twirly on the field, which makes her deal faster, more precise hits and dramatically speeds up exploration. Her ability to buff the entire team through the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City artifact set makes her a surprisingly valuable support in many team comps. If you are building other Natlan characters, you may also want to check the Scarlet Proof artifact guide or the Heart of the Furnace artifact guide for other new artifact options.

    Kachina Skills and Abilities

Normal Attack – Perform Up to 4 Strikes

Kachina performs up to 4 consecutive spear strikes with her normal attacks. She also has a charged attack that lunges forward while dealing DMG along the way, and a standard plunging attack. Her normal attacks are not a priority. Do not level this talent unless you are running a specific on-field normal attack build.

Elemental Skill – Go, Go Turbo Twirly!

This is Kachina’s most important ability. When you press the Elemental Skill, she summons Turbo Twirly, a drill construct that sits on the field and attacks nearby enemies at regular intervals, dealing AoE Geo DMG. Turbo Twirly exists independently of Kachina, meaning it keeps attacking even after you swap to another character.

When you hold the Elemental Skill, Kachina summons and rides Turbo Twirly. In this riding state:

    • She gains 60 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state.
    • Turbo Twirly’s actions consume her Nightsoul points over time.
    • When Nightsoul points are depleted, she switches to consuming Phlogiston (within Natlan).
    • Riding Turbo Twirly allows Kachina to climb walls dramatically faster and move at increased speed across terrain, without consuming stamina.
    • She consumes 90% less Stamina when climbing while riding Turbo Twirly inside Natlan.

You can freely mount or dismount Turbo Twirly during the Nightsoul Blessing state by pressing the Elemental Skill again.

Elemental Burst – Time to Get Serious!

Kachina’s Burst summons a Turbo Drill Field around her current position. While active, this field buffs her Turbo Twirly by increasing its movement speed and expanding its attack range. This means her drill hits a much larger area and moves faster to hit enemies while the field is active. You need to be on the field to get the most out of this Burst, as the field is centered around where Kachina stands when she uses it.

    Kachina Passive Talents

    A1 Passive – Mountain Echoes

This passive gives Kachina a buff whenever another team member triggers a Nightsoul Burst. Since Natlan characters all have Nightsoul mechanics, this passive activates frequently when running Kachina in a full Natlan team. It gives her personal damage boosts without requiring any extra effort from the player.

A4 Passive – Turbo Twirly Turbo Active

This passive increases the DMG dealt by Turbo Twirly based on Kachina’s DEF stat. This confirms that DEF is her core scaling stat, and you should always build DEF on her rather than ATK or Elemental Mastery.

Utility Passive – Night Realm’s Gift

After her Nightsoul points are depleted, Kachina can switch to consuming Phlogiston to maintain her Nightsoul Blessing state. She can also trigger Nightsoul Transmission — when the active character is sprinting, climbing, or at a certain height in the air, switching to Kachina will immediately put her into the Nightsoul Blessing riding state with 30 Nightsoul points. This can happen once every 10 seconds per team.

    Exploration Passive

While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics in Natlan, Kachina restores 20 Stamina when interacting with harvestable items. She also reveals the locations of Natlan-specific resources on the mini-map, making her one of the best farming characters in the Natlan region.

    Kachina Constellations Guide

Kachina’s constellations improve her utility and energy generation. Since she is available for free and can appear multiple times on banners you pull on, many players will naturally collect her constellations over time.

C1 – Shards Are Gems Too

When Kachina mounts or dismounts Turbo Twirly, she absorbs nearby Elemental Shards created by Crystallize. Additionally, when a party member picks up a Crystallize Shard, 3 Energy is restored to Kachina. This can happen once every 5 seconds. C1 is her most impactful constellation because it directly improves her Energy generation, which is a significant quality-of-life improvement especially in teams without another Geo character.

C2 – Never Leave Home Without… Turbo Twirly

When Kachina uses her Burst, she regains 20 Nightsoul points. If there is no Turbo Twirly on the field, she enters Nightsoul’s Blessing and summons one automatically. This is her second most useful constellation. It ensures Turbo Twirly is nearly always active and allows her to alternate Skill and Burst every other rotation while maintaining full uptime on her 4-piece Scroll buff. This makes shorter rotations under 20 seconds possible.

    C3 – Improved Stabilizer

Increases the level of Go, Go Turbo Twirly! (Elemental Skill) by 3, up to a maximum of Level 15. A straightforward talent level boost for her Skill damage.

C4 – More Foes, More Caution

When there are 1/2/3/4 (or more) opponents within the Turbo Drill Field from her Burst, the active character within the field gains 8%/12%/16%/20% increased DEF. This constellation provides a DEF buff to the active character while inside Kachina’s Burst field, which is useful in teams that scale on DEF.

    C5 – Talent Boost

Increases the level of Time to Get Serious! (Elemental Burst) by 3, up to a maximum of Level 15. A straight Burst talent level boost.

    C6 – Shielded No More

When the active character’s Shield is replaced or destroyed for any reason, Kachina deals 200% of her DEF as AoE Geo DMG. This can trigger once every 5 seconds. It is a useful passive damage trigger in teams that use and lose Crystallize shields regularly.

    Kachina Best Build – Artifacts

Best Artifact Set – 4-Piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

This is Kachina’s best and most recommended artifact set by a wide margin. Here is how it works:

    • After the equipping character triggers a reaction related to their element, all nearby party members gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for 15 seconds for the elements involved.
    • If the equipping character is in Nightsoul’s Blessing state when triggering this effect, the bonus increases to an additional 28% Elemental DMG Bonus for 20 seconds.
    • This effect can be triggered even when off-field.

Since Kachina has Nightsoul’s Blessing in her kit, she qualifies for the full 40% total Elemental DMG Bonus for her team. Geo triggers Crystallize with other elements, which counts as a reaction. This makes Kachina a powerful team buffer, especially for Natlan characters and any damage dealer who relies on elemental reactions. The set is obtained from the Sanctum of Rainbow Spirits domain in Natlan’s Toyac Springs Region.

Alternative – 4-Piece Husk of Opulent Dreams

If you want to build Kachina as a personal DPS rather than a team buffer, Husk of Opulent Dreams is the right choice. It stacks DEF and Geo DMG Bonus over time, which directly improves her Turbo Twirly’s damage output. This is the better option if her role in the team is primarily to deal damage rather than buff allies.

    Other Alternatives

    • 4-Piece Archaic Petra – A safe Geo DMG option. Provides Geo DMG Bonus from the 2-piece and elemental DMG bonuses to allies on the 4-piece when picking up Crystallize shards. Less powerful than Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City for buffing, but usable.
    • 2-Piece Mixes – Combine 2-piece Husk of Opulent Dreams (DEF% bonus) with 2-piece Archaic Petra (Geo DMG Bonus) as a filler while farming for the best sets.

    Artifact Main Stats

    • Sands: DEF% (in Geo teams) or Energy Recharge (in non-Geo teams where she has less ER support)
    • Goblet: Geo DMG Bonus or DEF%
    • Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG

    Artifact Substats Priority

Energy Recharge > CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG > DEF%. Kachina needs enough Energy Recharge to keep her Burst available each rotation. In double-Geo or Mono-Geo teams, she gets more Geo particles and needs less ER. In non-Geo teams, prioritize ER more heavily.

    Kachina Best Weapons

    1. Footprint of the Rainbow (4-Star, Craftable) – Best Option

This is Kachina’s best accessible weapon. It is a Natlan craftable polearm that provides DEF% as its substat and has a passive that increases her damage output. Since it scales directly with Kachina’s DEF and is craftable in-game without pulling from banners, it is the top recommendation for most players building her.

    2. Favonius Lance (4-Star) – Best Support Option

Favonius Lance has an Energy Recharge substat and a passive that generates extra Elemental Particles on CRIT hits. This weapon is ideal when the main goal is keeping Kachina’s Burst available every rotation and also funneling Energy to teammates. It is the better pick when your team needs more Energy support.

    3. Mountain-Bracing Bolt (4-Star)

This polearm provides increased DMG and is a solid damage-focused option for Kachina. It is the right pick when you want to increase her personal damage output rather than prioritizing Energy for the team.

    4. Calamity Queller (5-Star)

Calamity Queller offers ATK% and doubles its ATK bonus while the character is off-field. While ATK is not Kachina’s main scaling stat, this 5-star weapon is still a strong universal option if you have it available and are not using it on a higher-priority character.

    5. Engulfing Lightning (5-Star)

Engulfing Lightning converts Energy Recharge into ATK and boosts Burst DMG. It is a premium option that solves Kachina’s Energy needs while also increasing her damage output, making it a comfortable all-in-one solution.

    Free-to-Play Options

If you do not have any of the above, use any polearm with a DEF% or Energy Recharge substat as a temporary weapon. The Kitain Cross Spear (from an event) also works if you have it, as its EM passive is less useful for Kachina but its Energy Recharge passive can help keep her Burst online. Footprint of the Rainbow remains the best F2P crafted choice.

    Kachina Best Teams

Kachina works in a variety of team types. Her strongest role is as a Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City carrier who provides team-wide elemental damage buffs while also dealing off-field Geo DMG. She fits especially well into Natlan teams and Geo-focused teams.

    Natlan Team (Best Performance)

    • Main DPS: Mualani or Kinich
    • Sub-DPS: Kachina (Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City carrier)
    • Support: Citlali or another Natlan buffer
    • Flex: Any healer or second support

This is Kachina’s best team. With multiple Natlan characters triggering Nightsoul Bursts, Kachina’s A1 passive activates frequently. Her Scroll buff provides massive elemental DMG bonuses to the whole team. Mualani is especially notable here since her HP-scaling makes it hard to buff her with most artifact sets, but Kachina’s Scroll set solves that problem cleanly.

    Double-Geo Team

    • Main DPS: Navia or Arataki Itto
    • Sub-DPS: Kachina
    • Support: Zhongli (shields and Geo RES shred)
    • Healer/Flex: Bennett or Xiangling

Kachina’s constant Geo application and Crystallize shield generation make her a great fit in double-Geo teams. She enables Geo Resonance, which boosts the team’s shield strength and overall DMG. Navia benefits especially well here because she requires Crystallize shards to activate her own buffs.

    Mono-Geo Team

    • Main DPS: Arataki Itto
    • Sub-DPS: Kachina
    • Support: Gorou (DEF buff synergy)
    • Flex: Zhongli or Albedo

Kachina fits naturally in Mono-Geo because she is DEF-scaling, which synergizes with Gorou’s DEF buffs. She generates Geo particles to fund Itto’s Burst and provides steady off-field damage through Turbo Twirly while the team keeps Geo resonance active.

    Kachina Ascension Materials

Here is everything you need to fully ascend Kachina to level 90:

    Kachina Ascension Materials List

    • Prithiva Topaz Sliver x1
    • Prithiva Topaz Fragment x9
    • Prithiva Topaz Chunk x9

    • Saurian-Crowned Warrior’s Golden Whistle x36
    • 420,000 Mora

Where to Find Kachina’s Ascension Materials

Quenepa Berry is Kachina’s Natlan local specialty. These blue berries are found primarily around Coatepec Mountain, Teticpac Peak, Tepeacac Rise, and in the territory of the Scions of the Canopy (Huitztlan tribe). There are 34 spawn points in Natlan.

Overripe Flamegranate is dropped by the Gluttonous Yumkasaur Mountain King, a field boss in Natlan. Bring a Pyro character to this fight as it helps with the boss mechanics.

Tribe Warrior Whistles (Sentry’s Wooden Whistle, Warrior’s Metal Whistle, Saurian-Crowned Warrior’s Golden Whistle) are dropped by Sauroform Tribal Warriors found all across Natlan. These enemies are common and easy to farm. If you run out in your own world, you can join other players’ worlds to find more.

Prithiva Topaz gems can be obtained from Geo-related World Bosses and Weekly Bosses across Teyvat.

    Kachina Talent Materials

Here is everything required to fully upgrade all of Kachina’s talents to Level 10:

    Kachina Talent Materials List

    • Teachings of Conflict x9
    • Guide to Conflict x63
    • Philosophies of Conflict x114
    • Fading Candle x18 (Weekly Boss Drop)
    • Sentry’s Wooden Whistle x18
    • Warrior’s Metal Whistle x66
    • Saurian-Crowned Warrior’s Golden Whistle x93
    • Crown of Insight x3 (only if you want to crown all 3 talents)

Where to Find Kachina’s Talent Materials

Conflict Talent Books (Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Conflict) are available from the Blazing Ruins Domain in Natlan. This domain is only open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Fading Candle is Kachina’s weekly boss drop. It is obtained by defeating The Knave (Arlecchino) in Mont Esus East, Fontaine. You must first complete the Arlecchino Story Quest to unlock this weekly boss, or use Quick Challenge through the Handbook. Dream Solvents can convert other Knave drops into Fading Candles.

    Kachina Talent Upgrade Priority

Follow this order when leveling Kachina’s talents:

    • 1st Priority: Elemental Skill – Go, Go Turbo Twirly! This is her primary source of damage. Level it first.
    • 2nd Priority: Elemental Burst – Time to Get Serious! The Burst extends Turbo Twirly’s range and speed significantly. Level it second.
    • 3rd Priority: Normal Attack. Leave this at Level 1 in almost all builds. Kachina should rarely use her normal attacks in combat.

    Kachina as an Exploration Character

One of Kachina’s most underrated strengths is her value as an exploration tool. When riding Turbo Twirly in Natlan:

    • She can climb walls much faster than normal characters, without consuming Stamina.
    • She can move across terrain at high speed, making traversal efficient.
    • She reveals the locations of Natlan-specific local specialties on the mini-map.
    • She restores 20 Stamina for the team when interacting with harvestable items in Phlogiston zones.

Because of these traits, keeping Kachina in your exploration team in Natlan is highly recommended. Her Nightsoul Transmission passive also allows you to switch to her mid-sprint or mid-climb, instantly entering her riding state — which helps chain mobility skills seamlessly between Natlan characters.

    Kachina Pros and Cons

    Pros

    • Completely free for all players through the Natlan Archon Quest.
    • Provides massive team-wide elemental damage buffs with 4-piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City.
    • Excellent off-field Geo DMG with minimal field time required.
    • Outstanding exploration utility in Natlan — wall climbing, speed, and resource detection.
    • Works in Geo teams, Natlan teams, and many general compositions.
    • Strong at C0 and gets better with easy-to-obtain constellations from reruns.

    Cons

    • Personal damage is low compared to dedicated 5-star Sub-DPS characters.
    • Must be on-field briefly for her Burst to be effective, which can interrupt rotations.
    • Needs enough Energy Recharge in non-Geo teams, which competes with her damage stats.
    • Her main strength comes from the Scroll set, which requires farming a specific domain.
    • Less useful in teams that do not trigger elemental reactions with Geo.

    Tips for Playing Kachina

    • Use Skill then swap: After pressing your Elemental Skill to place Turbo Twirly, swap off immediately. The drill will keep attacking on its own while your main DPS does their job.
    • Use Burst for range: The Elemental Burst expands Turbo Twirly’s attack range significantly. Use it when enemies are spread out or hard for the drill to reach.
    • Build DEF first: Her damage scales on DEF, so always prioritize DEF% on your Sands in Geo teams. For non-Geo teams, consider Energy Recharge Sands to ensure Burst availability.
    • Pair with Natlan characters: Kachina’s A1 passive activates when teammates trigger Nightsoul Bursts. A full Natlan team keeps her buffs nearly permanent.
    • Use her for Natlan exploration: Always keep her in your party when exploring Natlan. The wall climbing and mini-map resource tracking save a lot of time when farming local specialties.
    • Prioritize C1 and C2: Since she is free and reruns regularly on banners, collecting her first two constellations is very achievable and meaningfully improves her Energy and Turbo Twirly uptime.

    Is Kachina Worth Building?

Yes, absolutely — especially since she is free. Even at C0, Kachina is a solid Geo Sub-DPS who doubles as a team buffer when equipped with 4-piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City. She is one of the most accessible characters in the game and fits naturally into many team compositions.

For players who run Natlan teams with characters like Mualani, Kinich, Mavuika, or Citlali, Kachina is a no-brainer inclusion. She works alongside premium Geo carries like Navia and Arataki Itto just as well.

Even if you are not building a Geo-focused team, Kachina’s exploration utility in Natlan alone makes her worth keeping in your roster. If you are also looking to round out your Snezhnaya roster, check out the Alyosha best build and Odette best build guides, and for more Geo character options see Zhongli and Albedo.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kachina in Genshin Impact

How do I get Kachina for free?

Progress through the Natlan Archon Quest, specifically the chapter called Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn. Completing this questline rewards you with a free Kachina automatically. No pulling or Primogems are needed.

What artifact set is best for Kachina?

4-piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is her best set for team buffing. It gives all party members up to a 40% total Elemental DMG Bonus when Kachina is in Nightsoul’s Blessing state and triggers a Geo-related reaction. For a personal damage build, use 4-piece Husk of Opulent Dreams instead.

Does Kachina need to stay on the field?

No. Turbo Twirly continues attacking after Kachina swaps off. However, her Burst requires brief on-field time to place the Turbo Drill Field effectively. After using her Skill and Burst, you can safely swap off and let the drill do its work.

Is Kachina good in non-Geo teams?

She can work in non-Geo teams as a Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City carrier, since Crystallize counts as a reaction for the artifact’s trigger condition. However, she needs more Energy Recharge in non-Geo teams due to fewer Geo particles. Adjust your stat priority accordingly.

Which constellations should I prioritize for Kachina?

C1 and C2 are the best stopping points. C1 improves her Energy generation through Crystallize Shard collection, which is her main quality-of-life issue. C2 ensures Turbo Twirly is always available and allows tighter rotations. Higher constellations are nice but not essential.
