San Ignacio Wreck Location

The San Ignacio Wreck is found in the Dry Tortuga region, on the upper west side of the Caribbean map. The exact coordinates are 348, 745. You don’t need to hunt for it — the main story mission will mark it on your map and sail you directly there during Diving for Medicines.

Look for ship masts sticking out of the water. Sail up to them with the Jackdaw and you’ll get the prompt to dive down using your Diving Bell.

How to Unlock San Ignacio Wreck

You unlock the San Ignacio Wreck — and underwater diving in general — by playing through to the 22nd main story mission, Diving for Medicines. This is the first mission of Sequence 6. During this quest, you’ll purchase or acquire the Diving Bell (it costs 5,000 Reales from the harbour if you haven’t picked it up earlier), then sail to coordinates 348,745 to begin the dive.

Once the mission ends, all 7 shipwrecks across the Caribbean appear on your map automatically. San Ignacio is the only one you’ll visit as part of the story — the rest are optional.

San Ignacio Wreck Diving Walkthrough

Here’s how the dive plays out step by step.

Step 1 – Drop the Diving Bell

Sail up to the wreck masts and interact with the prompt to lower the Diving Bell. Edward jumps in and you take control underwater. Your breath meter starts draining immediately, so get moving.

Step 2 – Head to the Medicine Chest

Swim west toward the large central wreckage. Head up toward the top of the structure and look for a hatch. Interact with it to open it, swim down through the passage, and open the chest inside to grab the medicine. This is the main story objective.

That chest is blocked by a beam. Looting it triggers the beam to shift and opens up a new section of the wreck.

Step 3 – Ride the Current

Swim through the newly opened tunnel and surface for air. Dive back down and you’ll hit an underwater current that pulls Edward into a different section of the wreck. This is where things get more interesting — and more dangerous.

Step 4 – Watch for Sharks and Jellyfish

As you enter the shark-patrolled section, you’ll spot another diver. This is where the game introduces you to the shark hazard. Sharks will patrol this area, so keep one eye on them while you loot.

Watch a shark’s mouth as it approaches. The moment you see a white glint flash, dodge sideways. That’s your cue to react. Don’t panic-swim to the surface — stay calm, dodge, and keep collecting.

Jellyfish are also around. They can’t be fought, but they’re slow and easy to swim past. Just avoid touching them.

Step 5 – Loot All 7 Standard Chests

There are 7 standard chests scattered throughout the wreck. Most of them reward around 1,000 Reales each, with a couple containing jewellery and valuables instead. Use the L2/LT button to highlight nearby chests with white dots — this is the easiest way to make sure you haven’t missed any.

Keep refilling your breath at the air barrels positioned around the wreck. These are one-time consumables, so use them when you genuinely need a refill rather than topping up early. There are also natural air pockets in some areas where Edward can surface briefly.

Step 6 – Find the Secret Chest (Hull Armor Ultimate Plan)

This is the most important chest in the entire wreck. After the current carries you through and you’re in the shark section, head toward the Diving Bell — but don’t go straight to it. Turn left instead.

You’ll see a wrecked ship with a torn-open hole in its side. Swim inside. The large secret chest is right there. Open it to claim the Hull Armor Ultimate Plan.

This plan unlocks the Armored Hull V upgrade for the Jackdaw, which raises your ship’s armor to 5,000. To actually purchase the upgrade, you’ll need a Tier 3 Harbourmaster at Great Inagua, plus 8,000 Reales, 400 Metal, and 750 Wood. But getting the plan now means you’re ready the moment you hit those requirements.

Looting all 68 treasure chests across all 7 underwater shipwrecks unlocks the Seven Deadly Seas trophy and achievement. The San Ignacio Wreck contributes 7 standard chests and 1 secret chest to that total count.

Visiting the wreck also counts as discovering a new Location on the map, which adds progress toward the Cartographer trophy too. So you’re earning toward two achievements at once just by doing this mission.

Tips for Diving at San Ignacio Wreck

• Loot during the story mission — You’re down there anyway. Don’t skip past chests to rush the objective. Grab everything before you surface.
• Use L2/LT to highlight chests — The white dot system shows nearby collectibles even inside dark sections of the wreck.
• Save air barrels for emergencies — Don’t waste them when you have 80% breath. Save them for when your meter is running low and no air pocket is nearby.
• Dodge sharks on the glint — React when you see the white flash on the shark’s mouth. Dodging early or late both get you hit.
• Turn left before the Diving Bell — This is where most players miss the secret chest. Don’t beeline to the bell until you’ve grabbed it.
• Don’t fight the current — Let it carry you through. Fighting it just drains your stamina and burns breath faster.

What to Do After San Ignacio Wreck

Once Diving for Medicines ends, all 6 remaining shipwrecks are now active on your map. Each one holds another secret chest with a different Jackdaw Ultimate Plan — except for The Black Trench, which rewards the Espada Ancha Rare Cutlass instead.
