All Text Logs in Saros – Locations and How to Find Them
TL;DR
- There are 45 Text Logs in Saros spread across all biomes.
- Text Logs are not tied to the Platinum trophy but are needed for 100% completion.
- They appear as a white glow in the environment and show on the minimap.
- Most spawn randomly in set location types — side paths, camps, and off-route rooms.
- Some are locked behind Permanent Equipment and require a return visit later.
- Text Logs inside the Banyan (called Case Evidence) do not count toward the Databank.
- Use Area Scan (D-pad down) to highlight nearby logs before moving on.
Text Logs are one of the main ways Saros tells its story. They fill in what happened on Carcosa before Arjun arrived — mission briefings, personal letters, crew assessments, and classified documents left behind by the Echelon expeditions. If you skip them, you are playing the game with a significant chunk of the lore missing.
This guide covers how many Text Logs are in the game, which biomes they appear in, all confirmed log names, and the best approach for tracking them all down. For a broader look at what each biome contains, check our complete Saros biomes guide.
How Many Text Logs Are in Saros?
There are 45 Text Logs in total across the full game. Most are found randomly throughout the different biomes, but some appear in predetermined locations that are only accessible after unlocking specific abilities through story progression.
Text Logs are tracked in the Databank. Collecting them all is not required for the Platinum trophy, but it is part of reaching 100% completion. The game has over 150 collectibles total including Audio Logs and Holo Logs — Text Logs are one of the three main collectible types.
There are also Text Logs inside the Banyan area of the Passage called Case Evidence, each with a large number attached. These can be picked up while inside the Banyan but they do not count toward the Databank total. Do not confuse them with the 45 that do count.
How Text Log Spawns Work in Saros
Text Logs in Saros do not have fully fixed positions in the way a traditional collectibles guide would map out. The biome layouts are randomised between runs, which means a Text Log might appear in a different physical spot each time. However, the type of location is consistent — logs always appear at side camps, off-path rooms, and specific points along the main route rather than in completely random open areas.
This is a big improvement over Returnal, where collectibles could be completely missed across entire playthroughs. In Saros, the logs are tied to the biome they belong to and will appear within that biome across runs. You do not need to do everything in one go. If a log was behind a yellow barrier or an orange wall on your first visit, you can return in a later run once you have the right ability.
For help with those barriers, our guides on how to get past yellow barriers and how to break orange walls cover the mechanics you need.
How to Spot Text Logs
All three collectible types in Saros — Audio Logs, Text Logs, and Holo Logs — are indicated by a white glow that is easy to see against the environment. When you get close enough, a pop-up appears to identify what you are looking at so you know before you pick it up.
Text Logs also appear as an icon on your minimap. The minimap is in the bottom right corner of the screen. Keep an eye on it as you move through rooms, especially when side paths branch off the main route. A small icon appearing on the minimap in a nearby direction is the fastest signal that something is worth checking out.
The Area Scan, activated by pressing down on the D-pad, sends out a sonar pulse that highlights collectibles and interactables in your immediate surroundings. Use it every time a path branches or a room feels too empty before moving on. It is the most efficient way to make sure you have not walked past a log before clearing the area.

All Text Logs by Biome
Shattered Rise — 3 Text Logs
Shattered Rise is the first proper biome and holds three Text Logs. These are the most accessible in the entire game. Permanent Equipment restrictions are minimal this early, so you should be able to grab all three during a standard first run without needing to return later.
- A Letter to Myself
- Awake
- Gone Ahead
These three logs introduce the lore format and give early context for Arjun’s investigation into Carcosa. They are personal in tone and set the stage for what the broader collectible narrative is building toward. For more on what this biome contains overall, see our guide to beating the Prophet in Shattered Rise.
The Passage — 16 Text Logs
The Passage is the central hub between biomes and holds the largest concentration of Text Logs in the entire game — 16 out of the 45 total. These logs skew heavily toward mission documentation and crew character files rather than environmental lore.
The Passage has more branching paths than any other area, and side camps are easy to walk past when you are focused on upgrading or resupplying. Some logs here also require Permanent Equipment to access. If a path is blocked, do not assume the log is gone — come back after story progression unlocks the relevant gear.
Confirmed Text Logs found in the Passage include:
- Final Interview Transcript: Arjun Devraj
- Final Interview Transcript: Jerome Jackson
- Final Interview Transcript: Kayla Rhodes
- Final Interview Transcript: Sheridan Bouchard
- Final Interview Transcript: Stack
- Echelon IV Pre-Flight Psychological Assessment (multiple entries)
- Evidential Analysis on Devraj
- Record of Interaction: Bouchard and Rhodes
The five Final Interview Transcripts give you the clearest character portraits of the Echelon IV crew members before their arrival on Carcosa. They are some of the most important pieces of lore in the game for understanding the cast. Because 16 logs are concentrated here and several have similar names, this is where the Area Scan is most useful. Use it frequently and check every side camp before moving on.
Ancient Depths — 1 Text Log
- Confidential: Updated Briefing
Ancient Depths holds a single Text Log. It is likely gated behind late-game Permanent Equipment, which means you may not be able to grab it on your first visit. Plan to return to this biome after significant story progress. Ancient Depths is also where the Jump Network Pads unlock — for help with that, see our guide on how to unlock Jump Network Pads in Saros.
Blighted Marsh — 1 Text Log
- Red Tree
Blighted Marsh holds one Text Log. Like the Ancient Depths entry, this is likely gated by a late-game ability. The marsh is one of the more punishing biomes to navigate due to the poisoned waterways and explosive traps, so bring preparation before you go hunting for this log off the main path.
Desecrated Fortress — 1 Text Log
- The Far Shore
The Desecrated Fortress holds a single Text Log called The Far Shore. This is also expected to be behind late-game Permanent Equipment. For more on what is collectible in this biome, our guide to the Honorarium Sigils in the Desecrated Fortress covers the other collectibles in that area.
Remaining Text Logs Across Later Biomes
The confirmed total across the five regions above accounts for 22 Text Logs. The remaining 23 are distributed across the later biomes — Shattered Descent, Acolyte’s Haven, Cathedral, and Yellow Shore — as well as potentially additional entries tied to story milestones and the Epilogue sections.
These later logs tend to be harder to reach. Many require abilities that unlock progressively through the story. The best approach is to explore each biome thoroughly on each visit and return with new abilities as they unlock, rather than trying to find everything in a single run. The game does not punish you for coming back later — all collectibles remain available across cycles.
The Grapple is one of the key abilities that opens up previously blocked side paths. If you have not unlocked it yet, our guide on how to unlock the Grapple in Saros explains how to get it. Eclipse Threads are another ability that opens up certain routes. See our guide on how to unlock Eclipse Threads for that.
Tips for Finding All Text Logs
Use the Two-Pass System
The most efficient approach is to do two passes through each biome. On the first run, grab every Text Log that is on the main path or reachable without special equipment. On the second pass — after unlocking the relevant Permanent Equipment through story progress — sweep any side paths that were blocked before. The minimap icon is reliable enough that you do not need to memorise exact positions. Just keep the map visible and move toward anything that appears on it.
Always Check Side Paths Before Moving On
Most Text Logs are placed in spots that reward exploration over rushing. Side camps, branching corridors, and off-route rooms are where the majority of logs appear. If a path branches and you skipped it to push the main route, there is a good chance you missed a log. Get in the habit of checking every branch before clearing a room completely.
Do Not Stress on First Runs
Saros is designed around multiple runs. Not finding every Text Log on your first pass through a biome is normal and expected. Some are locked behind abilities you will not have yet. Others are in side areas that look optional but reward exploration. Come back later, use the Area Scan, and cover the ground you missed. The game always shows what percentage of a biome’s collectibles you have found, which makes tracking progress straightforward.
The Banyan Case Evidence Does Not Count
When you are in the Banyan area inside the Passage, you will find items called Case Evidence with large numbers attached. These look like Text Logs and can be picked up, but they are separate from the 45 that count toward the Databank. Do not count these toward your completion total. They are story-related items tied to the Epilogue rather than standard collectibles.
Track Progress in the Databank
The Databank inside the Passage tracks your Text Log collection progress. Check it after each run to see what you have found and which biomes still have uncollected entries. This is the fastest way to identify where to focus your next run without guessing.
Do Text Logs Affect Any Trophies?
Text Logs are not tied to any Platinum trophy requirements. You can earn the Platinum in Saros without collecting a single Text Log. However, if you are aiming for 100% completion, all 45 need to be found and registered in the Databank.
For a full breakdown of every trophy and how to unlock each one, including what is and is not required for the Platinum, see our complete Saros trophy guide.
