007 First Light: How to Find and Reach Ellis White (All 3 Challenges Guide)

TL;DR

  • Ellis White in 007 First Light is one of three Q-Trak targets in the Time to Die mission at the Vietnam resort.
  • He is located at the Ocean View Bar, southeast of the resort’s starting area.
  • Two guards block the entrance — get past them by pickpocketing a Party Flyer from nearby women, or by climbing over the railing to the left.
  • There are 3 challenges tied to Ellis: Party Crasher, Blanc the Brut, and Key Master.
  • After meeting Ellis, you follow a lead involving Jonty, bar keys, and a locked minibar to plant the Q-Trak in his drink.

Ellis White in 007 First Light is one of three targets Bond must tag with a Q-Trak during the Time to Die mission in Vietnam. He is not as well-guarded as Ramon Hernandez, but getting into his party requires some social engineering — and the three challenges tied to him reward players who approach things the right way. This guide covers exactly where Ellis is, how to reach him, and how to complete every challenge along the way.

Where Is Ellis White in 007 First Light?

Ellis White is found at the Ocean View Bar, which sits in the southeast of the resort area in Vietnam. This section is part of the Three Targets checkpoint in Time to Die, and your active objective will be Approach Ellis White.

From the start of the resort area, head down the stairs and continue southeast. Follow the pathway down the stairs and rock steps. You will eventually reach the Ocean View Bar. It is a circular bar area, and Ellis is inside partying. The problem is that two guards are blocking the entrance.

How to Get Past the Guards at the Ocean View Bar

The two guards at the entrance will not let Bond walk straight in. There are two clean ways to get inside:

Option 1 — Pickpocket the Party Flyer (Recommended for Party Crasher Challenge)

After you speak to the guards and get turned away, two women will approach and sit down behind you. These women are carrying the Party Flyer that the guards want to see. Here is how to get it:

  1. Once the two women sit nearby, use your Phone Dart or Laser Strap to stun one of them briefly.
  2. While she is distracted, pickpocket the Party Flyer from her.
  3. Return to the guards and show them the flyer to gain entry.

This approach unlocks the Party Crasher challenge — one of three Ellis-related challenges in the mission.

Option 2 — Climb Over the Railing

If you just want to get inside quickly without dealing with the guards, head to the left side of the entrance where there is a railing. Climb over it to enter the bar area from the side. This skips the guard interaction entirely, but you will not get the Party Crasher challenge this way.

What to Do Once You Are Inside the Ocean View Bar

Once you are inside and approach Ellis White, a brief interaction triggers. Ellis will complain about being cut off from the bar. You will then be tasked with following a character named Jonty and finding the bar keys so Ellis can get a drink — and so Bond can plant the Q-Trak.

Before you follow Jonty, take a moment to pick up the Vietnam Postcard collectible. It is on one of the tables on the right side of the bar. It is easy to walk past in the moment.

How to Get the Blanc the Brut Challenge

After approaching Ellis and being tasked with finding the bar keys, you get a chance to unlock the Blanc the Brut challenge right away — before you even leave the bar. Here is what to do:

Walk to the wine menu 007 first light

  1. Walk to the wine menu on the edge of the bar and read it.
  2. Approach the bartender on the left side of the bar.
  3. Press the prompt to order off the menu.
  4. Select either dialogue option that appears.

Ordering off the menu causes the bartender to step away from the bar. The moment he leaves, the Blanc the Brut challenge completes. This also clears the bartender out of your way for the next steps.

How to Get the Ocean View Minibar Key

To plant the Q-Trak in Ellis’s drink, you need to open the locked minibar at the Ocean View Bar. The key for it is not inside the bar itself — it is at the Velvet Lantern, a separate bar located just below a large pool, where some people are cleaning the deck.

Getting the key without being caught earns you the Key Master challenge. Here is the full route:

  1. Head to the Velvet Lantern bar. Both employees there are facing the open entrances and will stop you if you walk behind them directly.
  2. To distract them: use your Dart Phone or Laser Strap to pull one of them away, or head to the red toolbox inside and turn on the hose. This causes one employee to move away to investigate.
  3. With the guard or employee distracted, move past them undetected, locate the bar keys, and pick them up.
  4. Vault over the ledge at the back to exit via the rear door and return to Jonty safely without being seen.

Retrieving the keys without being detected unlocks the Key Master challenge. If you are spotted, you can always use the Bluff option to buy yourself a few seconds to slip away — but you will need to stay undetected for the challenge to count.

If you were caught and want to retry, use the 007 First Light mission replay feature to jump back to the checkpoint without replaying the whole mission from scratch.

How to Plant the Q-Trak on Ellis White

With the Ocean View Minibar key in hand, head back to Ellis at the Ocean View Bar. Ellis is cut off from drinks and frustrated about it. Use the minibar key to open the locked minibar for him. This wins his trust.

Once the minibar is open, Bond can now plant the Q-Trak discreetly into Ellis’s drink — completing the sub-objective and tagging him as a target without him ever knowing. This is the clean, spy-style resolution to the Ellis encounter.

All 3 Ellis White Challenges at a Glance

  • Party Crasher — Enter the Ocean View Bar by pickpocketing the Party Flyer from one of the two women sitting near the entrance. Stun them with a Phone Dart or Laser Strap, then pickpocket the flyer and use it to talk your way past the guards.
  • Blanc the Brut — After approaching Ellis, read the wine menu on the bar’s edge, then speak to the bartender and order off the menu. Either dialogue option works. The challenge unlocks when the bartender leaves.
  • Key Master — Go to the Velvet Lantern bar, distract the employees using the hose near the red toolbox, grab the bar keys without being detected, and exit via the back. Stay undetected the entire time.

Tips for Getting All 3 Ellis White Challenges

  • Do Party Crasher and Blanc the Brut on the same run. Both happen in and around the Ocean View Bar and do not conflict with each other at all.
  • Grab the Vietnam Postcard on the right side of the bar when you first enter. It is very easy to walk past while focused on the objectives.
  • For Key Master, the hose distraction is the cleanest method. Head straight to the red toolbox when you enter the Velvet Lantern. The hose pulls one employee away reliably and gives you a clear window to grab the keys and slip out the back.
  • The Bluff option is a safety net. If an employee catches you at the Velvet Lantern, press the Bluff prompt to stun them briefly. Use that window to get to the keys and vault out — but be aware this may affect whether the challenge triggers cleanly.
  • Have the right gadgets ready before heading into this section. The Phone Dart and Laser Strap are both used here. Check the all gadgets list and the best gadget loadout guide to make sure you are prepared.

Where Ellis White Fits in the Time to Die Mission

Time to Die has three Q-Trak targets to tag across the Vietnam resort: Theresa Lorca, Ramon Hernandez, and Ellis White. Ellis is the most social encounter of the three — he is at a party, and the whole section revolves around getting into that party, earning his trust, and planting the tracker through a drink rather than direct confrontation.

Of the three targets, Ellis is generally considered the most straightforward. There are no rooftop climbs or disguise chains needed — just a bit of pickpocketing and distraction work. For the other two targets, see the guides for Ramon Hernandez in 007 First Light and the complete Time to Die all challenges guide.
