How to Enter CCTV Room Through Skylight in 007 First Light – Dropping In Challenge

How to enter CCTV room through skylight in 007 First Light — reach the roof, laser the locked gate, hack the skylight, and complete the Dropping In challenge in Uninvited.

TL;DR

  • The skylight route is in Chapter 11: Uninvited, Checkpoint 06 – Security Office.
  • Completing it unlocks the Dropping In challenge — and also counts toward A Quiet Night and Top Notch Security if done stealthily.
  • You need the Laser Strap to cut the locked gate on the roof before reaching the skylight.
  • Step-by-step: Enter security wing → hack air conditioner in break room → exit to balcony → jump ledge → climb pipe → reach roof → Laser the gate → hack skylight → drop in.
  • The skylight route is faster and stealthier than the keycard route — it skips two guarded sections entirely.
  • Top up your Q-Watch batteries before heading to the roof — the skylight hack requires charge.

How to enter the CCTV room through the skylight in 007 First Light is one of the most satisfying sequences in Chapter 11: Uninvited. Instead of hunting down a keycard and sneaking past guards at the reception desk, Bond goes over the roof, cuts through a locked gate with the Laser Strap, hacks the skylight open, and drops directly into the CCTV room from above. It’s a classic spy infiltration move — and it completes the Dropping In challenge at the same time.

This guide walks through every step of the skylight route in order, explains what gadgets you need, and points out where most players get stuck. For full chapter coverage including all 29 challenges, see our 007 First Light Uninvited all challenges guide.

When Does This Section Happen?

The skylight route becomes available during Checkpoint 06 – Security Office in Chapter 11: Uninvited. Your objective at this point is to get into the CCTV room and use the surveillance system to track down the assassin. The game gives you two main ways in:

  • Keycard route: Find the CCTV keycard in the security wing office, distract the two reception guards using the vacuum cleaner, and use the card to open the CCTV room door directly.
  • Skylight route: Navigate through the security wing, exit to the balcony, climb up to the roof, laser a locked gate, and hack the skylight to drop in from above.

The skylight route is the better option. It’s faster once you know the path, it skips the reception guard section entirely, and it simultaneously completes the Dropping In, A Quiet Night, and Top Notch Security challenges if you stay undetected throughout. The keycard route only completes one of those three.

What You Need Before Starting

  • Laser Strap gadget — mandatory. The locked gate on the roof cannot be opened any other way. The Laser Strap is unlocked automatically during Chapter 9 as part of the story. Make sure it’s in your gadget loadout before loading this checkpoint.
  • Q-Watch batteries — you need enough charge to hack the air conditioner, hack the skylight, and potentially deal with any cameras or devices along the way. There is a storage closet on the right side just after entering the security wing front doors — check it for battery pickups if your charge is low.

How to Enter the CCTV Room Through the Skylight – Full Walkthrough

Step 1 – Enter the Security Wing Through the Front Doors

From the balcony area above the main Gala, locate the security wing entrance and go through the front doors. You can kick them down to enter quickly, or slip through while guards are occupied. As soon as you’re inside, go immediately right and vault up into the ceiling space. Follow the ceiling grates to the left — this keeps you above the guards below and avoids triggering any alerts on the ground floor.

Continue through the ceiling until you reach the area with the blue tarp. Drop down below the blue tarp. Wait here and watch the guard on your left — hold position until he moves toward the vent.

Step 2 – Hack the Air Conditioner in the Break Room

Once you’re down from the ceiling area, pass through the civilian room and enter the break room. There is a guard in here you need to deal with without alerting him. Use your Q-Watch to hack the air conditioner — this causes it to emit smoke that clouds the guard’s vision. While he’s blinded and distracted by the smoke, slip out the door on the right that leads to the exterior balcony. You don’t need to knock the guard out or steal anything here — just use the smoke as cover to exit cleanly.

If you are also going for the keycard challenges at the same time, this is where paths diverge. For the skylight route, always exit right to the balcony rather than backtracking toward reception.

Step 3 – Jump the Ledge to the Exterior

Once you’re on the balcony, look for the ledge you can jump to on the right side. Jump across it. This moves you onto the exterior section of the security wing building. From here, look up and to the right — you’ll spot a drainpipe or climbable pipe running up the side of the wall. Walk to it and climb up. This takes Bond directly to the rooftop above the CCTV room.

Step 4 – Use the Laser Strap to Cut the Locked Gate

On the roof, you’ll immediately encounter a locked metal gate blocking your path forward. This is where the Laser Strap is essential. Equip it from your gadget wheel and use it on the gate’s lock. The Laser Strap cuts through it and the gate opens.

If you don’t have the Laser Strap equipped or didn’t carry it forward from Chapter 9, you cannot proceed on this route. You’ll need to either equip it from your loadout before loading the chapter, or take the keycard route instead. For more on this gadget, see our all gadgets in 007 First Light guide.

Step 5 – Recharge Q-Watch if Needed

Before reaching the skylight, scan the rooftop area. There are electronic devices nearby that contain batteries — small yellow battery bubble icons will appear above them when you use the Q-Lens. Pick up any batteries available to make sure your Q-Watch has enough charge for the final hack. The skylight requires a Q-Watch interaction, and running out of power at this stage forces you to find a charge before you can proceed.

Step 6 – Hack the Skylight and Drop In

Continue across the rooftop past the now-open gate. You’ll reach the skylight directly above the CCTV room. It’s a glass panel set into the roof. Aim your Q-Watch at it and hack it — the skylight will unlock and swing open. Walk to the edge and drop straight down through the opening.

Bond lands cleanly inside the CCTV room. The Dropping In challenge is now complete. If you stayed undetected during the entire route, A Quiet Night and Top Notch Security will also tick off at the same time.

What to Do Inside the CCTV Room

Once inside, use the CCTV system at the main console to track the assassin. This is a story objective, so the game will walk you through the interaction. While you’re here, don’t forget the Kensington Postcard — it is on a table immediately to the left as you enter the room from the front door side. If you dropped in through the skylight, walk toward the front of the room and look left to find it. For more on the postcard, check our all postcard locations guide.

There is also an MI6 Intel File in this area — the Security Notice (Stephen Bright) is through the door at the front right of the security room. Check that door before you leave. For more on intel collectibles, see our all MI6 Intel Files locations guide.

Skylight Route vs Keycard Route – Which Is Better?

The skylight route is the stronger choice in almost every situation. Here’s why:

  • Faster overall: The keycard route requires finding the card in the glass office, neutralising or distracting the guard inside, backtracking to reception, and then dealing with two more guards at the desk. The skylight route bypasses all of that once you know the path.
  • More challenges at once: The skylight route can complete Dropping In, A Quiet Night, and Top Notch Security in a single clean run. The keycard route only unlocks the standard entry challenges.
  • Better for Ghost/Pacifist runs: The roof path avoids most of the heavily guarded indoor sections. If you’re going for a no-kill or no-detection run in Uninvited, the skylight route removes several of the riskiest encounters.

The keycard route is the right call if you specifically need the challenges tied to using the card — such as distracting the reception guards with the vacuum cleaner. You can also combine both routes across two separate Chapter Select runs to clean up all challenges.

Common Problems and Fixes

  • “I can’t open the roof gate” — You don’t have the Laser Strap equipped. Equip it from the gadget loadout screen before loading the checkpoint. If Chapter Select stripped it from your loadout, select it manually from your gadget menu inside the mission.
  • “My Q-Watch ran out of power before I reached the skylight” — Use the Q-Lens to find battery pickups on the rooftop. There are also batteries in the storage closet on the right just after entering the security wing front doors — go back and grab them if needed.
  • “I got detected before reaching the roof” — The air conditioner hack in the break room is the most common alert point. Make sure you wait for the smoke to fully obscure the guard before moving. If you’ve already been spotted, restart from Checkpoint 06 and try again.
  • “I can’t find the skylight” — After lasering the locked gate, continue straight across the rooftop. The skylight is a glass panel flush with the roof surface. Use the Q-Lens if you’re struggling to spot it — it will highlight the interactable panel.

Other Ways Into the CCTV Room

If you’re not going for the Dropping In challenge specifically, the keycard method is the most straightforward alternative. Here’s a quick summary:

  1. Enter through the security wing front doors.
  2. Navigate to the glass-walled office in the back of the security wing.
  3. Neutralise or distract the guard inside and pick up the CCTV Keycard from the desk.
  4. Return to reception and activate the vacuum cleaner on the right to distract both guards behind the desk.
  5. Use the CCTV Keycard on the door to enter the room.

This method completes the vacuum cleaner-related challenges but does not count for Dropping In, A Quiet Night, or Top Notch Security.
