All Boss Fights in Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) — Full Boss List and How to Beat Them

TL;DR

  • Resident Evil Requiem has 8 main bosses plus 2 optional mini-bosses.
  • Bosses are split between Leon and Grace across the Care Center, Raccoon City, and ARK.
  • The Requiem revolver and Hatchet are your most important tools in most fights.
  • The Chef and Chunk (Grace) are optional — but both drop useful rewards.
  • The hardest boss is Victor (Mutated), the final fight in the ARK.
  • Cheats like Infinite Ammo and Infinite RPG do not disable trophies — use them on Insanity.

How Many Bosses Are in Resident Evil Requiem?

Resident Evil Requiem has 8 named bosses in the main story, plus 2 optional encounters that reward useful items. You play as both Leon and Grace, and each character gets their own boss fights depending on the area. Some bosses are pure combat. Others work more like stealth puzzles or tense chases. The final boss is Dr. Victor Gideon, mutated by the Nemesis virus, and it is the most demanding fight in the game.

Here is the full boss list in order of appearance:

  • The Chef (optional, Care Center)
  • Chunk — Grace’s version (optional, Care Center East Wing)
  • The Girl (Water Treatment Plant)
  • Chunk — Leon’s version (Care Center Attic)
  • Titan Spinner (East Raccoon City)
  • Tyrant T-501 / Mr. X (Raccoon City Police Department)
  • Super Tyrant T-501 (Outside RPD)
  • Plant 43 (Underground / Blackthorn Station)
  • The Commander (ARK)
  • Victor Gideon — Mutated (ARK, Final Boss)

Before diving in, make sure you understand the difficulty options in RE9 — some boss fights change significantly on Insanity mode.

The Chef — Optional Mini-Boss (Care Center)

Location: Care Center, West Wing Kitchen
Playable as: Grace or Leon
Optional: Yes

The Chef is a large, virus-mutated cook swinging a heavy cleaver through the hallways of the West Wing. He is completely optional, but worth killing because he drops the Pantry Key. Opening the Pantry rewards you with Scrap, Handgun Ammo, and 12.7x55mm Requiem Bullets — useful early supplies.

As Grace, the easiest approach is to craft a Hemolytic Injector and sneak up behind him for an instant kill. He patrols the hallways, so duck back into the Central Hall to lose his attention, then slip behind him when he walks away. As Leon, a few shotgun blasts or grenades finish him quickly. If you kill the Chef as Grace and open the Pantry, it stays open for Leon later too.

Chunk (Grace) — Optional Boss (Care Center East Wing)

Location: Care Center, East Wing
Playable as: Grace
Optional: Yes — but highly recommended

Chunk is a grotesque, foul-mouthed mutant patrolling the East Wing corridors. He moves slowly, which works in your favour. Kill him before heading to the Isolation Ward — once Leon’s section begins, this version of Chunk disappears permanently.

The best method is three Hemolytic Injectors from behind. Wait near the East Wing Waiting Room for Chunk to pass, then sneak out and use the injector on his back. Do this three times and he explodes, dropping the Eye Spy Charm — a passive that increases Grace’s chance of surviving a fatal hit. That charm is a big deal for survivability.

Alternatively, two Requiem headshots or sustained handgun fire will also bring him down. Note: there are actually two Chunk brothers in the Care Center. Killing Grace’s version does not remove Leon’s encounter in the Attic — that fight still happens.

The Girl — Boss Fight (Water Treatment Plant)

Location: Water Treatment Plant, Rhodes Hill
Playable as: Grace

The Girl — also known as the Shadow Ghost — is a recurring stalker enemy throughout Grace’s story. She appears multiple times across the Care Center before you finally confront and eliminate her in the Water Treatment Plant.

This is not a traditional boss fight. You do not stand and shoot her down. Instead, you need to restart 3 power distribution units on the lower floor while she actively hunts you. Once all three are online, you return to the upper floor, open the roof hatch, and expose her to sunlight — which destroys her.

Each power distribution unit has a different challenge. The first in Storage just needs a lever pull. The second in the Control Room requires you to find a missing Crank Lever in the Filing Room first. The third in Chemical Treatment is jammed and needs you to hold the lever down for ten full seconds — which is when The Girl is most aggressive.

Key tactics: Use the Requiem revolver to stun her — one shot works on all difficulties except Insanity, which needs two. Floodlights around the area can also stun her briefly. Activate them to buy time when she is blocking your path. Learn exactly how to handle every unit in our guide on how to restart the power distribution units.

Chunk (Leon) — Boss Fight (Care Center Attic)

Location: Care Center, Attic
Playable as: Leon

Leon’s Chunk fight is a proper boss encounter in a small attic arena. When the fight starts, grab the shotgun from the floor immediately. Aim for his head and belly with every shot — these are his most vulnerable spots.

The attic has yellow ladders leading to an upper level. Climb up, wait for Chunk to try to follow, then unload shots on his head and hands until he falls back down. While he is stunned on the lower level, drop back down and sprint to him to trigger a finisher for bonus damage. Repeat this loop.

When Chunk starts spraying blood from the holes in his body, the fight is effectively over. He will explode shortly after. You do not need to keep attacking — just keep some distance and wait it out. Shotgun shells are scattered around the attic corners if you run low.

Titan Spinner — Boss Fight (East Raccoon City)

Location: East Raccoon City, upper building
Playable as: Leon

The Titan Spinner is a massive spider-like creature with one major weak point — the orange cluster on its backside. You cannot deal meaningful damage until you reach the main boss room at the top of the building, so focus entirely on running and evading the approach.

Once inside the arena, use the ladders to reach the upper level and create distance. The Titan Spinner will try to follow. Watch for it to climb down the web in the corner — that is your best window to hit its weak point with a sniper rifle or sustained fire from a distance.

Explosive canisters are placed around the battlefield. They can stun the Titan Spinner and expose its weak point clearly, but they do not respawn — only use them when you can guarantee a direct hit. The most frustrating part of this fight is the small spider clusters that appear periodically. Clear them quickly with an SMG or grenades before they swarm and slow you down.

Tyrant T-501 / Mr. X — Chase Sequence (Raccoon City Police Department)

Location: RPD interior
Playable as: Leon

Long-time Resident Evil fans will recognise Mr. X immediately. This is a chase and evasion sequence — not a direct fight. Do not waste a single bullet on him here. He cannot be killed in this form.

When Tyrant T-501 smashes through the wall, turn around and run. Move through the hole in the wall and go right. He punches through the next wall before you can reach the door, so loop around him and go through the new opening. Head up the collapsed staircase and through the corridor ahead. When a steel beam suddenly bursts through the wall, immediately quick-turn and sprint back the way you came — contact with the beam is instant death. Duck into the side room on the left.

He will burst through again. Use the rubble in the centre of the room to keep distance, then exit through the hole he makes. Pass the bear statue and continue forward to escape. Stay calm, keep moving, and do not stop to fight.

Super Tyrant T-501 — Boss Fight (Outside RPD)

Location: Raccoon City Center, street outside RPD
Playable as: Leon

After the chase ends, Tyrant T-501 transforms into the Super Tyrant in a full open-area fight. His weak point is the beating heart in the centre of his chest. Handguns are too weak here — use the shotgun and sniper rifle for every shot to make each hit count.

The arena is completely open with no cover, so this is a fight where you stand your ground and use the parry mechanic heavily. You can parry the Super Tyrant’s mutated arm attacks. Practice the timing and sharpen Leon’s hatchet beforehand — a fully upgraded hatchet and body armor from the supply box make the parry window more forgiving.

When he leaps onto a car, use that pause to land direct shots at his exposed heart. Enough damage in a short window knocks him off and briefly stuns him — sprint in for a finisher or use the time to heal and reload. Watch out for his car-throwing attack at range. As soon as he picks one up, sprint sideways immediately. Med injectors and ammo are scattered around the area if you take hits.

Plant 43 — Boss Fight (Underground / Blackthorn Station)

Location: Underground tunnels near Blackthorn Station
Playable as: Leon

how to beat plant 43 giant plant in resident evil requiem 4

Plant 43 is a massive vine monster blocking the path to the ARK facility. This is a two-stage encounter. In the first stage, you cross a vine-covered bridge. Flower buds on the vines unfurl and swipe at you — hit them with your sniper rifle the moment they open to stop the attack. They reappear as you move forward, so keep shooting.

Once you drop to the lower ledge, the real fight begins. Plant 43 has two main attacks: vine strikes from either side of its body and a forward lunge with its central maw. Keep sprinting left and right continuously to avoid both. Its weak point is the flower inside the open maw — only target it when the maw is open between attacks. The window is short, so an SMG works best for quick bursts of damage. A shotgun also works if you are close enough.

There are two destructible boxes with supplies on the right side of the arena. Break them carefully without taking unnecessary damage. Once Plant 43 takes enough damage, it begins to thrash and vomit — this dislodges a truck filled with explosive canisters directly in front of Leon. Shoot the canisters to end the fight instantly.

The Commander — Boss Fight (ARK)

Location: ARK facility, tight interior corridors
Playable as: Leon

how to beat the commander hunk in resident evil requiem 2

The Commander looks very similar to RE2’s Hunk and fights like Krauser from RE4 — close-quarters, knife-focused combat with fast reflexes. This is one of the more skill-intensive fights in RE9.

Phase one is almost entirely melee. Parry his knife attacks and strike back with your hatchet whenever he is pushed back. When Leon boots him away with his foot, you get a brief window for a quick gun shot — take it. For most of this phase, your hatchet is your primary weapon. Make sure it is fully upgraded and sharpened going in.

Phase two starts after The Commander uses a flash grenade and bursts a steam pipe. Visibility drops dramatically. Wait for him to come to you rather than chasing him through the fog. When he grabs you, a QTE triggers — button-mash immediately to break free and avoid an instant-kill. Stick with your hatchet through this entire phase. Trying to line up gun shots in low visibility wastes ammo and leaves you open to hits.

Victor Gideon (Mutated) — Final Boss (ARK)

Location: ARK, lower levels
Playable as: Leon (and Grace)

Dr. Victor Gideon, mutated by the Nemesis virus, is the final boss of Resident Evil Requiem and the hardest fight in the game. Come in fully prepared — weapons and armor fully upgraded, hatchet sharpened, and as much ammo as you can carry.

Phase one: Keep Victor at a distance. He moves toward you with long strides, but fires off attacks at range too. Deal enough damage in a short time window to trigger a temporary stun — use those moments to unload everything you have. When Victor leaps onto a platform and begins charging purple energy, you have ten seconds to hit him as hard as possible. Stop as soon as a purple light starts travelling outward from his position — sprint away before it reaches you. He follows this with a leap and a large area explosion, so keep moving until the energy fully dissipates.

You can parry his melee attacks at close range, just like the Super Tyrant. But distance is safer — force space between you and attack from there whenever possible.

Phase two begins after a short cutscene. Victor’s form grows dramatically, but this phase is actually less demanding than the first. Do not fire randomly at his body. Instead, focus on popping the nodules that appear on his body — an SMG works well, and grenades can clear clusters quickly. He can still swipe with mutated limbs, all of which are parryable. His grab attack has a specific QTE — follow the on-screen prompts when it triggers. Once you complete it, the fight ends.

On Insanity difficulty, the Infinite RPG makes Victor trivial — one rocket kills him instantly in phase one. This is why saving your Challenge Points for Infinite Ammo before the Insanity run is so important. See our guide on how to unlock infinite ammo in RE9.

Also remember — the Elpis choice at the end of the ARK affects your trophies. Our guide on whether to destroy or release Elpis explains both outcomes before you commit.

General Boss Tips for Resident Evil Requiem

Always Sharpen Your Hatchet

Leon’s hatchet is used in finishers, parry follow-ups, and the Commander fight. A dull hatchet does significantly less damage. Sharpen it at every opportunity before entering a boss arena — it takes one second and costs nothing.

Stock Up on Requiem Bullets Before Bosses

The Requiem revolver is Grace’s most powerful tool against The Girl and handles the Chunk efficiently too. Never go into a boss section without checking your ammo supply first. Our guide on how to get Requiem Bullets covers every source in the game.

Save Manually Before Each Boss

The game has 12 manual save slots. Always save in a fresh slot before any major encounter. If a boss wipes you repeatedly, you reload without losing progress. On Insanity, this matters even more.

Use Infinite Ammo on Insanity Runs

Cheats like Infinite Ammo and the Infinite RPG-7 do not disable trophies or achievements. On your Insanity playthrough, the Infinite RPG one-shots every boss including Victor. This makes the hardest difficulty far more approachable. See our full trophy and achievement guide for the best playthrough order.

Know the Optional Bosses Are Worth It

The Chef and Chunk (Grace’s version) are skippable, but both give you early resources and a useful charm. Killing Grace’s Chunk before the Isolation Ward is one of the best investments you can make in the early game. It removes a patrol threat and gives you the Eye Spy Charm for the rest of Grace’s run.
