What Are Sprites in Fortnite Runners?

Sprites are small creature companions that ride along with you during a match. Equip one and its passive ability turns on immediately. Unlike the Chapter 6 version of this mechanic, Runners Sprites are permanent once you bank them. Find one, get it to an Extraction Site, survive the timer, and it’s added to your Sprite Collection for good.

You start a fresh season with access to Water, Earth, and Fire. Everything else has to be found and extracted in a live match.

Here is every Sprite currently in the game, grouped by rarity. Note that Epic hasn’t published an official master list with locked-in rarities for every entry, so a couple of the newest additions are still being confirmed by the community.

Rare Sprites

• Water Sprite — restores shields for you and nearby squadmates while standing in water.

• Earth Sprite — chance at bonus rare loot when you open Chests.

• Fire Sprite — sets off a burst of fire damage after you deal enough damage to an enemy.

Epic Sprites

• Demon Sprite — heals health and shield on elimination. One of the strongest all-around picks; see our best Sprites in Fortnite Runners breakdown for why.

• Ghost Sprite — grants a short cloak window every time you reload.

• Duck Sprite — emoting or using an instrument refills your shield.

• King Sprite — pickaxe damage goes up significantly.

Mythic Sprites

• Zero Point Sprite — spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. around you whenever you use a healing item. One of the rarest pulls in the game; see our Zero Point Sprite guide for exact odds.

• Grim Reaper Sprite — marks any player who damages you, revealing their position for a few seconds. Added June 25. Full guide: new Sprites added in the Gone Wild update.

• Punk Sprite — Epic still hasn’t locked in exactly what this one does. Treat any “confirmed effect” claims online with caution until it’s officially patched in. More here: Punk Sprite explained.

Unconfirmed / New Rarity Sprites (Added June 25, 2026)

• Striker Sprite — grants Overdrive when you Mantle or Hurdle. Unlocked by scoring a goal at the new Soccer Pitch POI, not found randomly.

• Fishy Sprite — swim speed way up, plus a short movement boost after taking damage. Found in Fishing Spots and random Chests.
• Aura Sprite — grants a free Shock Rock charge once you’ve dealt enough damage. Found in random Chests and Supply Drops.
• Boss Sprite — permanently boosts your Max HP and Max Shield for the match. Drops only from defeating a seasonal boss, not from Chests. Rarity is not officially confirmed yet.

Cosmetic-Only Sprite

That puts the total between 16 and 17 collectible Sprites depending on whether you count TheBurntPeanut, and Epic has said more will keep landing on a roughly weekly cadence. Where to Find Sprites in Fortnite Runners

Most Sprites come from the same handful of sources. Here’s where to actually look.

• Sprite Chests — guaranteed Sprite drop every time. These spawn at fixed possible locations around the map. See our full Sprite Chest location map for every spot.
• Regular Chests and Rare Chests — much lower odds, but they can still drop a Sprite.
• Floor loot — Sprites occasionally sit out in the open, no chest required.
• Eliminated players — if an opponent had a Sprite equipped, it can drop when you eliminate them.
• Vaults — some rarer Sprites spawn inside vaulted rooms. Check the vault locations guide for where to look.
• Special unlocks — Striker comes from scoring a Soccer Pitch goal, and Boss comes from defeating one of the seasonal bosses.

How to Extract Sprites in Fortnite Runners

Finding a Sprite isn’t enough. You have to bank it.

• Walk up to an Extraction Site (marked with a light beam on the map) and interact with the terminal.
• Survive the extraction timer. Starting it alerts nearby players, so expect company.
• When the Extraction Crate drops, deposit your Sprites before it leaves.
• A Portable Extractor lets you bank a Sprite from anywhere on the map, no Extraction Site required. Full details: Portable Extractor and Gizmos guide.
• Get eliminated before extracting and you lose the Sprite. A Victory Royale auto-extracts everything you’re carrying.

Sprite Variants: Gold, Gummy, and Galaxy Explained

On top of rarity tiers, most Sprites also come in cosmetic variants that don’t change the passive ability but do change the look and, in some cases, the drop odds:

Dataminers have also found early artwork hinting at Gem, Holofoil, Cube, and Quack variants for some of the newer Sprites, but none of that is confirmed live in-game yet. Worth treating as a “maybe coming soon” rather than something you can chase today.

Leveling Up and Mastering Sprites

Sprites level up through exploration, eliminations, and extractions. Getting one to max level and then extracting it grants Mastery, which unlocks separate progression rewards. Demon keeps you topped up through fights without eating healing items, and Zero Point’s Shield Bubble Jr. is strong enough to change a fight outright if you can find one.
