- The Signal 50 is a semi-auto .50 Cal sniper rifle that unlocks at Player Level 50 in MW4.
- It has the fastest fire rate of all three snipers โ 111 RPM โ making follow-up shots much more forgiving.
- The Multiplayer build focuses on ADS speed and suppressed fire to stay off the radar.
- The DMZ build leans into range, muzzle velocity, and silence for long-distance AI engagements.
- The Signal Inferno Apex unlocks at weapon level 74 and turns your rounds into incendiary bullets โ devastating against vehicles and killstreaks.
- It sits in the Meta tier and ranks as the second-best sniper in MW4 behind the KG-7 Vulcan.
The Signal 50 is one of the most satisfying snipers in Modern Warfare 4. Unlike the Astaroth .57, it does not punish missed shots as harshly โ its semi-auto fire lets you quickly put a second round downrange without breaking your rhythm. Build it right and it becomes a sniper that rewards both patient long-range players and those who like to quick-scope and reposition. Here is everything you need to run the best Signal 50 loadout in MW4.
Signal 50 Overview โ MW4 Sniper Rifle
The Signal 50 is a .50 Cal anti-materiel rifle built around a recoil-reducing reciprocating barrel. That barrel is the reason it handles better than you might expect from a .50 cal โ it keeps you on target between shots, which is a big deal in a sniper class with only three guns to choose from.
Here are the base stats at launch:
- Unlock: Player Level 50
- Max Weapon Level: 74
- Fire Mode: Semi-Auto
- Fire Rate: 111 RPM โ fastest of all three snipers
- Magazine: 7 rounds
- Reserve Ammo: 14 rounds
- Damage: 82
- Weapon Class: Sniper Rifle
The Signal 50 wins on fire rate by a wide margin โ 111 RPM versus 41 RPM on the KG-7 Vulcan and 34 RPM on the Astaroth .57. That speed is the whole identity of this weapon. You can land a shot, miss a follow-up, and still recover faster than on any other sniper in the game. It does trail the other two in raw damage, range, and accuracy, so you are trading some stopping power for that speed. If you want a comparison with the other snipers, see our Astaroth .57 loadout guide and the KG-7 Vulcan loadout guide.
Best Signal 50 Multiplayer Loadout โ MW4
In Multiplayer, the Signal 50 build focuses on two things โ keeping your ADS speed as quick as possible and staying invisible on the minimap while you hold lanes. Every attachment here works toward those goals without hurting the gun’s semi-auto follow-up speed.
Multiplayer Attachments
- Muzzle: FSS Moodkiller (Light Silencer)
- Barrel: TV Icarus 50 24.5″ (Light Barrel)
- Laser: XRK Clutch-LS (Dim ADS Laser)
- Rear Grip: GL Zero Drop 6
- Stock: Cronen SN-PAD50 (Tactical Pad)
The TV Icarus 50 24.5″ light barrel is the most important attachment on this build. It cuts down ADS time and movement penalty, which lets you stay mobile between positions without feeling like you are lugging a heavy weapon around. The trade-off is a small reduction in damage range and muzzle velocity โ acceptable given how the Signal 50 plays in 6v6.
The Cronen SN-PAD50 stock and GL Zero Drop 6 rear grip both push ADS speed further. Combined with the XRK Clutch-LS dim laser, you get a sniper that scopes in noticeably faster than its base form. The laser stays invisible when you are aiming down sights, so it does not give your position away.
The FSS Moodkiller suppressor keeps your shots off the radar. On a sniper with this much visibility โ you are going to be sitting on long lanes โ staying undetected between kills is important. It also removes muzzle flash, which helps keep your sightlines clean after each shot.
Multiplayer Perks
- Perk 1: Ghost
- Perk 2: Fast Hands
- Perk 3: Battle Hardened
Ghost is the top perk for any sniper in MW4. It keeps you hidden from UAVs and enemy intelligence, which is especially important when you are sitting in one spot for multiple kills. Fast Hands speeds up weapon swapping so you can get to your secondary immediately if a rusher pushes your position. Battle Hardened reduces the effect of flash grenades and stun grenades, which opponents frequently throw at known sniper spots.
For a full breakdown of which perks work best at every rank, check the MW4 perks tier list. You can also see how the Signal 50 fits into a complete class in our best multiplayer loadouts guide.
Best Secondary to Pair with the Signal 50
Run the ISO Nightshade as your secondary if you take the Overkill perk swap. It is a fast, close-range SMG that covers every fight the Signal 50 cannot handle. Alternatively, the M4 or Kastov 762 work well if you want a mid-range AR to clean up targets the Signal 50 wounds. See our ISO Nightshade loadout guide, M4 loadout guide, and Kastov 762 loadout guide for the best builds on each.
Best Signal 50 DMZ Loadout โ MW4
DMZ changes the demands on a sniper completely. You are not fighting in tight corridors and map lanes โ you are picking off AI across wide-open terrain on Hajin, often at ranges that would be rare in a standard 6v6 match. That means you need more range, more muzzle velocity, and a heavier suppressor to stay quiet and undetected between engagements.
DMZ Attachments
- Muzzle: FSS HOC-30 (Heavy Silencer)
- Barrel: TV Guarddog 50CAL 27″ (Heavy Barrel)
- Laser: XRK Clutch-LS (Dim ADS Laser)
- Ammunition: .50 Cal High Velocity
- Stock: EXP T50-S Heavy (Heavy Stock)
The TV Guarddog 50CAL 27″ heavy barrel is the anchor of this build. It significantly extends damage range and muzzle velocity โ the two things you need most when shooting across the large POIs and open fields of Hajin. It slows you down compared to the Multiplayer barrel, but in DMZ you are rarely moving and shooting at the same time.
The .50 Cal High Velocity rounds pair perfectly with the heavy barrel. They reduce bullet travel time at distance, which makes it much easier to time shots on moving AI targets at 150 metres or more. The FSS HOC-30 heavy silencer is the right muzzle choice for DMZ โ it provides better sound suppression than the light silencer, keeping your gunfire from drawing AI patrols toward your position.
The EXP T50-S Heavy stock improves recoil control and stability, which matters more in DMZ when you are making deliberate, long-range shots where precision counts. The XRK Clutch-LS laser is carried over from the Multiplayer build โ it still helps ADS speed even in DMZ without the visibility risk.
This setup works particularly well on elevated positions across Hajin. See our DMZ radio tower locations and all compound locations guide to find the best vantage points to use it from. For DMZ-specific traits to run alongside this, check the best DMZ traits guide.
Signal Inferno Apex Attachment โ Explained
The Signal Inferno is the Signal 50’s Apex attachment and it is unlike anything else in the sniper class. It converts all your ammunition into incendiary rounds that leave fire on the surface where they hit, dealing burn damage on top of the initial impact.
The real value of the Signal Inferno is its bonus damage against vehicles and killstreaks. If there is a chopper gunner or an enemy vehicle on the map, a few Signal Inferno shots will put it down far faster than standard .50 cal rounds. This makes the Signal 50 one of the best tools in MW4 for dealing with enemy killstreaks โ something most snipers cannot claim.
The trade-off is a 27% reduction in bullet velocity, which makes long-range shots harder to time. At extreme distances, you will need to lead moving targets more than usual. In Multiplayer at typical sniper ranges, this is manageable. In DMZ at very long range, the base build without the Inferno may actually serve you better.
Signal Inferno Apex Build
- Apex: Signal Inferno
- Muzzle: FSS Moodkiller
- Barrel: TV Icarus 50 24.5″
- Rear Grip: GL Zero Drop 6
- Stock: Cronen SN-PAD50
- Laser: XRK Clutch-LS
The Apex goes in its own free slot and does not take up any of your five regular attachment picks. This means you can run the full five-attachment Multiplayer build and still add the Signal Inferno on top of it โ a significant advantage. Unlock it by reaching weapon level 74. For a full list of every Apex in the game, check our complete Apex attachments guide.
How to Unlock the Signal 50 in MW4
The Signal 50 unlocks at Player Level 50 in Modern Warfare 4. It is one of the later weapons in the progression track โ you will have played through most of the game before you get here. Once it unlocks, it is available in both Multiplayer and DMZ immediately.
From there, level the weapon to weapon level 74 to unlock the Signal Inferno Apex. That is the longest grind of any sniper in the game, so start early. Running Double XP Tokens whenever possible helps significantly โ see our guide on getting Double XP Tokens in MW4. You can also check the full weapon unlock guide for where every weapon sits in the progression tree.
Is the Signal 50 Worth Using in MW4?
Yes โ especially once you hit weapon level 74 and get the Signal Inferno. The Signal 50 sits in the Meta tier and ranks second among snipers, behind the KG-7 Vulcan. Here is how it compares to the other two snipers:
- vs. KG-7 Vulcan: The KG-7 wins on almost every raw stat โ more damage, more range, more accuracy, bigger magazine. But the Signal 50 has nearly three times the fire rate (111 RPM vs 41 RPM), which makes it far more forgiving on missed shots and faster on follow-ups. If you miss a lot or play aggressively, the Signal 50 is genuinely better for your playstyle.
- vs. Astaroth .57: The Astaroth hits harder and penetrates walls better, but it only holds 3 rounds and has the slowest ADS in the class. The Signal 50 holds 7 rounds, scopes in faster, and shoots much quicker between shots. For most players, the Signal 50 is the easier gun to use effectively.
The Signal Inferno also gives it a niche that neither competing sniper can match โ anti-killstreak and anti-vehicle capability with incendiary rounds. In game modes where enemy vehicles or chopper gunners appear regularly, the Signal 50 becomes the smartest sniper pick in the entire class.
Tips for Using the Signal 50 in MW4
- Use the semi-auto to your advantage. If your first shot does not kill, fire again immediately. The 111 RPM rate means your second shot arrives before most enemies can react.
- Take Ghost over everything. Staying off the minimap between kills is what keeps you alive on a sniper. Do not swap it out for anything.
- Activate the Signal Inferno around killstreaks. The moment you hear an enemy chopper or see a vehicle on the map, switch to your Signal 50 and take it down. The incendiary damage makes short work of both.
- Do not rush to level 74 with a bad build. The early-game Signal 50 without most attachments unlocked is rough. Run the core five attachments as soon as they unlock and be patient with the Apex grind.
- Pair it with a fast SMG. Seven rounds sounds like a lot for a sniper, but enemies who rush past your scope will end you. Always have a close-range weapon ready. See the best SMGs ranked in MW4 for secondary options.
- Reduce visual recoil. The reciprocating barrel helps, but the semi-auto fire still moves your scope between shots. Read our guide on reducing visual recoil to keep your sightlines tight.
