    Chimeric Winged Lion Overview

The Chimeric Winged Lion is a product of bio-alchemy and one of the flawed artificial monsters cast aside in pursuit of a certain grand ambition. Its in-game description carries the line: “All was born for a single, grand dream, and thus ten thousand lives came to be.” It is classified among the Aberrant Chimeric Monsters — bio-alchemy constructs that appear across Snezhnaya as remnants of an alchemist’s pursuit of a perfect artificial being. The lion’s two heads represent its dual-element nature: one Electro, one Anemo, and the fight shifts between them.

Unlike the Immortal Construct, which has a self-healing mechanic that Stellar Glimmer reactions disable entirely, the Chimeric Winged Lion is a pure state-cycling boss — each of its two states has a specific mechanic to interrupt, and Stellar Glimmer reactions are the fastest way to interrupt both. The fight does not require Stellar Glimmer teams to complete, but they make both transitions significantly faster. For a full step-by-step walkthrough of how to defeat it, see how to beat the Chimeric Winged Lion in Genshin Impact.

    Chimeric Winged Lion Location

Chimeric Winged Lion Location Genshin Impact

The Chimeric Winged Lion can be found close to the western border of Volkodlak Tundra in Snezhnaya. You can easily reach it by using the nearby teleport waypoint or by making your way from the Hunter’s Cabin. Its lair is northwest of Sretomorozsk, the first town you reach in the Cryo nation. A dedicated teleport waypoint sits just outside the boss arena from your first visit, making all subsequent farming trips fast.

You will need to play the main story quest, Everwinter Without Mercy, to properly unlock the Snezhnaya region. While you can technically venture into Snezhnaya without completing the main mission, doing so makes it far easier to traverse the area. If you have unlocked the train through the main story, riding to Rankova Zorya and traveling north to the arena is another viable route. Interacting with the Statue of Seven in the area will mark the boss location on your overworld map automatically.

    Chimeric Winged Lion Mechanics

The Chimeric Winged Lion will oscillate between two enhanced states: Thundercall and Galeforce. When it is in the Thundercall state, it will become weakened when its Elemental Ward is broken. Additionally, any attempts by it to spread its thunder blades can be disrupted by the Stellar Glimmer reaction. When it is in the Galeforce state, it will attempt to absorb any Anemo Orbs that are on the field to charge its attack. At this time, destroying the orbs or using the Stellar Glimmer reaction can stop its charging and weaken it.

You cannot deal meaningful HP damage until you address whichever state the boss is currently in. Stellar Glimmer is effective in both — it strips the Thundercall shield faster than raw Cryo or Pyro, and it destroys the Galeforce orbs faster than individual elemental hits. Either Stellar Conduct or Stellar Swirl works across both states.

    Thundercall State

The Chimeric Winged Lion opens in the Thundercall State. It generates an Electro Elemental Ward (shield) that blocks direct HP damage. You can break it with elemental attacks, preferably Cryo. Once you break it, the boss will be left stunned for a few seconds. That stun is the primary damage window — use your Burst and highest-damage skills the moment the shield shatters.

During Thundercall, the boss also winds up a thunder blade spread — a lethal radial attack that fans out across a wide area. You can use Stellar Glimmer reactions to cancel the thunder blade spread before it fires, without needing to fully break the Elemental Ward first. This is a useful option when the shield is taking longer to break than expected.

    Galeforce State

After recovering from the Thundercall stun, the boss enters the Galeforce State and switches to Anemo. It summons Anemo Orbs across the arena and begins drawing them in to charge a powerful combined Anemo and Electro breath attack. You will need to break the Anemo Orbs by using Cryo, Electro, Hydro, or Pyro elements. Stellar Glimmer reactions work best here, as either Stellar Conduct or Stellar Swirl will deal heavy damage to the orbs. Destroying all orbs before the charge completes cancels the breath attack and weakens the boss, opening another brief damage window before the cycle returns to Thundercall.

    Chimeric Winged Lion All Attacks

    Thundercall State Attacks

    • Homing Missiles (Electro): A volley of electric projectiles that track your position. Sprint sideways with a normal dash — they are slow enough to outrun.
    • Electric Plunge: The boss rises into the air and crashes down. Sprint away the moment it takes flight.
    • Ground Slam AoE: A slam that sends an Electro burst expanding across the floor in a wide circle. Jump as the burst expands to clear it without taking damage.
    • Thunder Blade Spread: A radial attack the boss winds up during Thundercall. Trigger a Stellar Glimmer reaction to cancel it, or position at the edge of the arena to reduce exposure.
    • Twin Beam: The boss fires two beams simultaneously from both of its faces. Sidestep to one side — the beams travel in fixed directions.

    Galeforce State Attacks

    • Anemo Missiles: Projectiles that track your position, same pattern as the Electro homing missiles. Sprint sideways to dodge.
    • Anemo + Electro Breath: A combined breath attack fired from both heads simultaneously. This attack deals a ton of damage — jump to avoid it.
    • Aerial Pounce: The boss can fly up in the air and follow up immediately with a pounce attack. Sprint away the moment it leaves the ground.
    • Orb Charge: The boss draws the Anemo Orbs toward itself. Destroy all orbs with any elemental attack before the charge completes to cancel the breath attack that follows.
    • Wind Slashes (Anemo): The lion charges its claws with wind energy and delivers two sweeping slashes in front of itself, then finishes the combo with a sword strike from its bird head. Sprint sideways through the slashes.

    Chimeric Winged Lion Best Teams

Sandrone or Odette in Genshin Impact will be ideal characters to defeat the Chimeric Winged Lion boss. The fight rewards off-field damage dealers and Stellar Glimmer compositions specifically because the boss is highly mobile — it repositions constantly between and during attacks, making stationary DPS setups harder to land cleanly.

    Stellar Swirl (Recommended)

Stellar Swirl is the best reaction against the Chimeric Winged Lion. The boss’s constant movement makes Stellar Swirl especially efficient here — Anemo application does not require precise positioning on a moving target, and the reaction handles both the Thundercall shield and the Galeforce orbs with equal effectiveness.

    • Yumemizuki Mizuki (main DPS), Odette (Cryo sub-DPS / buffer), Faruzan or Sucrose (Anemo support), Qiqi (healer)

    Stellar Conduct

Stellar Conduct is equally effective at breaking both the Electro shield and the Anemo Orbs. Sandrone leads as the main DPS with Yae Miko providing off-field Electro, Odette covering Cryo and Stellar Glimmer buffing, and Alyosha providing healing alongside Electro support.

    • Sandrone (main DPS), Odette (Cryo sub-DPS / buffer), Yae Miko (Electro sub-DPS), Alyosha (healer / support)

For the full build details on the characters who make these compositions work, see the Odette best build guide and Alyosha best build guide. For the broader meta behind Stellar team compositions, see the best Stellar-Conduct teams guide and best Stellar Swirl teams guide.

    Free-to-Play

    • Cryo Traveler (Stellar enabler), Alyosha (healer / support), Sucrose (Anemo / EM buffer), Diona (secondary Cryo / sustain)

Cryo Traveler enables both Stellar Conduct and Stellar Swirl and is available to every player. This team covers the shield-break mechanic, the orb destruction, and provides healing through Alyosha and Diona. For the complete Cryo Traveler build supporting this composition, see the Cryo Traveler best build guide.

    Standard Teams (Without Stellar Glimmer)

The Chimeric Winged Lion can be cleared without Stellar Glimmer teams. Strong Cryo compositions (Kamisato Ayaka, Ganyu, Shenhe, Diona) break the Electro shield efficiently and deal solid sustained DPS during stun windows. Strong Pyro teams (Mavuika, Citlali, Bennett, Escoffier) handle the shield equally well. Orb destruction in Galeforce requires any non-Anemo element regardless of team type. The fight is also available in Co-Op if your solo roster needs reinforcement.

Chimeric Winged Lion Drops and Rewards

Claiming the Trounce Blossom after defeating the Chimeric Winged Lion costs 40 Original Resin. The Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer is obtained exclusively from the Chimeric Winged Lion at level 30+, and one character uses it for ascension. That character is Alyosha — the Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer is the Chimeric Winged Lion’s required field boss material for Alyosha’s ascension.

Primary ascension material: Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer (required for Alyosha‘s ascension)

Gemstones: Vajrada Amethyst (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, Gemstone) — used for ascending Electro characters.

Artifacts: Pieces from Gladiator’s Finale, Wanderer’s Troupe, Berserker, Instructor, and other standard artifact sets across 3-star to 5-star rarities. Early farming runs are useful for artifact grinding alongside Severed Tail collection, given the range of sets on offer.

The teleport waypoint directly outside the boss arena makes return trips fast after the first clear. Set it as a saved destination to minimize travel time on daily resin farming runs.

    Chimeric Winged Lion Achievements

One achievement is tied to the Chimeric Winged Lion. It is available for battling the boss as a solo player and rewards five Primogems. The condition: when the Chimeric Winged Lion is in its Galeforce State, destroy all Anemo Orbs to knock it down. This achievement triggers naturally as part of normal gameplay — destroy every Anemo Orb before the charge completes during the Galeforce phase. Stellar Glimmer reactions are the most reliable way to guarantee all orbs are destroyed before the charge window closes. The achievement cannot be missed across a run as long as orb destruction happens at least once during the Galeforce phase.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Chimeric Winged Lion in Genshin Impact?

The Chimeric Winged Lion is in Volkodlak Tundra, southern Snezhnaya, northwest of Sretomorozsk near the Hunter’s Cabin. A teleport waypoint sits directly outside the boss arena. Start the Everwinter Without Mercy main story quest to unlock the region fully before attempting the fight.

What are the Chimeric Winged Lion’s two states in Genshin Impact?

The Thundercall State, in which the boss gains an Electro Elemental Ward blocking HP damage — break it with Cryo or Pyro, or use a Stellar Glimmer reaction to cancel its thunder blade spread without fully breaking the shield. The Galeforce State, in which the boss summons Anemo Orbs and charges a breath attack — destroy all orbs with Cryo, Electro, Hydro, or Pyro before the charge completes to cancel it. The boss cycles between these two states throughout the fight.

What does the Chimeric Winged Lion drop in Genshin Impact?

The Chimeric Winged Lion’s primary drop is the Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer, the only boss ascension material for Alyosha. It also drops Vajrada Amethyst gemstones for Electro character ascension and artifacts from standard sets. Rewards cost 40 Original Resin to claim.

What is the best reaction against the Chimeric Winged Lion?

Stellar Swirl and Stellar Conduct are both effective. Stellar Swirl is generally recommended for this specific boss because the lion’s constant mobility makes off-field Anemo application particularly efficient — reactions can be triggered regardless of where the boss repositions. Both reactions work on the Thundercall shield and the Galeforce orbs equally.

What is the best team for the Chimeric Winged Lion?

A Stellar Swirl team of Yumemizuki Mizuki, Odette, Faruzan or Sucrose, and Qiqi is the recommended pick for this boss. A Stellar Conduct team of Sandrone, Odette, Yae Miko, and Alyosha is equally strong. Free-to-play players can use Cryo Traveler, Alyosha, Sucrose, and Diona to cover all mechanics with accessible characters.

How do you get the Chimeric Winged Lion achievement in Genshin Impact?

Destroy all Anemo Orbs during the Galeforce State before the boss completes its charge. This knocks down the lion and triggers the 5-Primogem achievement. Using a Stellar Glimmer reaction during the orb destruction phase is the most reliable method to clear all orbs within the charge window.
