How to Beat Crowcaller in Crimson Desert
Crowcaller — full name Draven the Crowcaller — is the main boss at the end of Chapter 5, found at Crow’s Nest in the Abyss during the Black and White questline. He dual-wields blades, moves fast, and punishes players who try to out-aggress him without setting up a stagger first.
The fight spans three phases, each one faster and more aggressive than the last. Knowing when to parry, when to dodge, and when to use your key skills is what wins this fight. Raw damage output alone won’t cut it.
If you haven’t yet tackled the Crowcaller quest walkthrough, make sure you’ve completed The Missing Seal main quest first — that’s what unlocks the Crowcaller quest chain.
What to Bring Before the Fight
Preparation matters here more than in most Chapter 5 fights. Here’s what you need before stepping in:
Food: Bring far more than you think you’ll need. Soups made from meat and barley at a cooking pot are excellent. Even experienced players report burning through 10+ food items across the three phases. Stock up on Chewy Rice Cakes or Hearty Grilled Meat if you have them. You can cook the best healing food here.
Gear: Get your weapons and armor to at least Level 5 before this fight. The blacksmith in Hernand handles all upgrades. Plate armor gives the best defense with no movement penalty — always prioritize it. Check out our full guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor if you need help.
Shield: Bring one — even the default shield works. This is a parry fight at its core.
Skills to Have Ready:
- Blinding Flash Finisher (top blue skill tree) — activated with L1 + R1, then R2 on PlayStation. This stuns Crowcaller after a parry and opens a damage window.
- Grapple (Triangle + Circle / Y + B) — temporarily stuns Crowcaller and stops him from repositioning. Essential in Phase 2 and 3 when he becomes very evasive.
- Lariat Follow-Up upgrade — lets you chain the Lariat skill multiple times to fill Crowcaller’s Stagger bar fast.
- Aerial Force Palm (if unlocked) — gives you extra aerial mobility to dodge his dive attacks cleanly.
Need to grind a few more skill points first? Here’s how to get skill points in Crimson Desert and the best skills to level up first.
Watch and Learn: Steal Aerial Roll Mid-Fight
Crowcaller has a high-speed aerial dash move. You can steal this skill using the Watch and Learn mechanic — keep the camera facing him when he performs it, then hold the Interact button.
Do this during Phase 1 or early Phase 2, before things get too hectic. It’s one of the better mobility skills you can pick up, and getting it for free mid-fight saves you skill points later.
Crowcaller Phase 1
Phase 1 is the tutorial for the whole fight. Use it to learn Crowcaller’s parry timing — don’t burn any food here.
Dual-Blade Swing: Crowcaller swings his blades at you. Watch for the red highlight as his blades are about to connect, then press L1 to parry. A clean parry stuns him and opens a window for several hits.
Dive Bomb: Crowcaller places his swords against his chest, becomes briefly invulnerable, then flies up. He’ll do one aerial dodge before crashing down on your position. Roll to the side just as he starts to descend — not too early.
Key tip: After his attack flurry ends, don’t chase him — he’ll dodge your follow-up every time. Instead, use Blinding Flash or Grapple right after the flurry to create your damage window. Chasing wastes stamina and leaves you open.
Crowcaller Phase 2

Phase 2 is noticeably faster. He keeps his distance more often and introduces two new threats.
Explosive Crows: He fires explosive crow projectiles at range. Hold L1 to block while he’s at distance and wait for him to close the gap before you act.
Double Air Dash: His dive bomb now includes two aerial dashes before landing. Time your side dodge after the second dash — the same roll-to-the-side works, just slightly later.
Evasive Movement: He’s much harder to pin down now. Use Grapple (Triangle + Circle) to stun him and stop him from repositioning. Follow with Blinding Flash Finisher to maximize damage.

Crowcaller Phase 3

Phase 3 returns to the open arena, but Crowcaller is at peak aggression. He’s faster, hits harder, and occasionally grabs you in place for a brief moment before unleashing a combo.
Triple Air Dash Dive: The dive bomb now comes with three aerial dashes before the crash landing. Watch the pattern — one, two, three dashes, then he drops. Roll after the third.
Strategy: The same toolkit applies — parry, Grapple, Blinding Flash. But you’ll likely eat more food here, and that’s normal. Stay patient. Don’t get greedy after a parry. Land two or three hits and back off.
Keep your shield up whenever he’s closing distance. If he connects a combo without you blocking, back off immediately, heal, and reset.
Crowcaller Rewards
Defeating Crowcaller drops:
- Tauria Curved Sword — one of the best weapons in the game, exceptional for heavy attacks and crowd control. Don’t sell it. Pair it with the Nature’s Echo skill for devastating heavy attack chains.
- Abyss Artifacts — used to upgrade core stats. Prioritize these.
The Tauria Curved Sword becomes your go-to weapon for the next several bosses, including Cassius Morten and Ludvig. It’s worth investing in heavy attack skills once you have it.
