Crimson Desert Destroyed Barrier Stone of the Lake – Quest Overview

The “Destroyed Barrier Stone of the Lake” is a Hernand Faction Quest in Crimson Desert. It asks you to help the trolls of Kharonso in the Scholastone region. Your job is to track down four broken barrier stones, seal them into the Kuku Pot, and then restore the four crumbling pillars at the lake.

Do this correctly and you unlock one of the more satisfying boss fights in the game — Vordis, the Runewalker.

Important: If you have already placed the stones but the quest hasn’t triggered, you need to complete more Hernand Faction Quests first. Find the “Kharonso Troll Alliance” mission in your Journal → Hernand Faction Quests. Complete that before attempting the pillar restoration.

How to Find All Four Barrier Stones in Crimson Desert

There are four barrier stones scattered across Kharonso. Each one requires a slightly different approach. Keep the Kuku Pot in your inventory at all times.

1. Barrier Stone in the Well

  • Head just east of the lake. Look for a mossy brick well.
  • Jump in and use Flight (Square / X on PS5) to slow your fall to the bottom.
  • At the bottom, you’ll find the Barrier Stone.
  • Use Axiom Force (L3) to pick it up, then press Triangle to Seal it into the Kuku Pot.
  • To get back out, face west toward the light above. Use Jump + Force Palm three times to gain height. Climb the rocks and rest on ledges to recover stamina on the way up.

2. Barrier Stone in the Ruins

  • From the lake, head south to find a large wooden structure.
  • At ground level beneath that structure is the entrance to the Ruins.
  • Head inside and jump through the stone square opening to reach the Nameless Cave.
  • The Barrier Stone sits in the center.
  • Use Axiom Force (L3) and press Triangle to Seal it.

3. Barrier Stone in the Excavation Site

This one needs a bit more prep. You’ll use two abilities here — Blinding Flash and Focus Force Palm.

  • Head south into Everfrost Basin.
  • Find the cave entrance on the west rock wall. It’s blocked by vines.
  • Use L1+R1, then L1 to activate Blinding Flash and burn the vines.
  • Inside, there’s another wall. Destroy it using Focus Force Palm: press L3 + R3, then R3 again until a glowing gold orb appears. Strike it with Force Palm.
  • Enter the Excavation Site. The Barrier Stone is wrapped in chains.
  • Attack the chains — R1+R2 works best — until they break.
  • Then use Axiom Force (L3) and Triangle to Seal the stone.

4. Barrier Stone in the Caves (Black Claw Cave)

  • Head south through Kharonso until you find a cave in the rock wall.
  • Go through the cave and past the iron gate into the Black Claw Cave.
  • You’ll see the Barrier Stone — but be careful. This one has a burnt end that can damage you and nearby NPCs.
  • Use Axiom Force (L3) and press Triangle to Seal it safely without touching it directly.

How to Restore All Four Barrier Stone Pillars

Once you have all four stones sealed in the Kuku Pot, return to the lake. You’ll place each pillar onto a specific broken column. Here’s the order, going from left to right:

Kharonso Ruins Pillar No. 1 → Fourth Broken Pillar (from left)

  3. Jump + Force Palm to climb on top.
  4. Jump + Force Palm again to slot it into place.

  3. Climb and slot it using Jump + Force Palm twice.

Warning: Pillar No. 2 has fire at the bottom. If it touches an NPC, you will receive a bounty. Be careful with placement. Check our how to remove bounty guide if this happens.

Kharonso Ruins Pillar No. 3 → Second Broken Pillar (from left)

How to Beat Vordis the Runewalker in Crimson Desert

Vordis might look intimidating, but his key weakness makes this fight very manageable.

Core Strategy: Pull the Prism

Vordis has a glowing prism on his head. That’s his weak spot. Remove it and he falls apart.

Step-by-step:

  1. Use Axiom Force (L3) to grab the glowing prism on Vordis’s head.
  2. Hold L2 and push down on the Right Stick to pull the prism free.
  3. Vordis collapses into a pile of rocks. Now spam your attacks — R2 is the best option for dealing fast damage.
  4. After a moment, he reassembles. Repeat the prism pull.
  5. Keep doing this until Vordis is defeated.

Tips for the Fight

  • Use the Kharonso Ruins Pillars as cover while you wait for Vordis to attack. You can safely pull his prism from behind a pillar without taking damage.
  • Don’t rush in blindly. Wait for the prism to become accessible, then act fast.

Rewards for Completing the Quest

After beating Vordis the Runewalker, you get two rewards:

  • Mossy Secret Map — use it from your Key Items to unlock the locations of all Legendary Fish on the map. Useful if you enjoy fishing in Crimson Desert.
  • Abyss Artifact — obtained by approaching the new stone structure that appears after the fight. Check our how to open sealed Abyss Artifacts guide if you need help using it.
