Crimson Desert Golden Beer Reward Location

Golden Beer in Crimson Desert permanently doubles all Dispatch mission rewards — find it by defeating Mazzul in Burnhand Quarry, Demeniss. Here's the full unlock guide.

Golden Beer is one of the most powerful items in Crimson Desert. It permanently doubles the rewards from every Greymane Dispatch mission — no activation required, no cooldown, no management. It just sits in your inventory and multiplies every payout automatically for the rest of your playthrough. The catch is that getting it requires solid story progress and ends with a boss fight. This guide covers exactly what Golden Beer does, how to unlock it, where to find the boss, and how to beat him.

TL;DR

  • Golden Beer permanently doubles all Greymane Dispatch mission rewards. It works passively the moment it enters your inventory.
  • It is found in Burnhand Quarry, north of the “E” in “Demeniss” on the map — near the Kingshield Mountains.
  • Defeat Mazzul, the Dark Justiciar — a winged boss in the southeast of Burnhand Quarry.
  • You do not need to clear the entire quarry. Go straight to Mazzul to skip the enemy grind.
  • To unlock the quest: complete Chapter 8 of the main story and finish all other Demeniss faction quests first.
  • The quest chain is called The Dark Justiciar (House Byron). It starts at Hayscent Farm in west Demeniss.
  • Additional rewards from Mazzul: Sanguine Knell Two-Handed Mace and Ashad Plate Gauntlets — both Oongka-only gear.
  • Use Golden Beer immediately after picking it up. There is no reason to hold it.

What Does Golden Beer Do

Golden Beer is described in-game as a treasure — Mazzul’s most prized possession, kept hidden even from his own subordinates. Its effect is simple and permanent: all Greymane Dispatch mission rewards are doubled while Golden Beer is in your inventory.

What Does Golden Beer Do

This means every material, every bit of currency, and every piece of Abyss Gear your comrades bring back from dispatch runs comes back in double quantity. There is no timer, no activation cost, and no limit on how many times it applies. It scales naturally with every dispatch mission you run for the rest of your playthrough.

This makes it especially powerful for:

  • Farming rare Abyss Gear through repeated dispatch runs to ancient ruins.
  • Speeding up camp development — more materials means faster upgrades.
  • Boosting resource income passively without any extra effort.
  • Making the Electrical Component Production dispatch and other specialist missions yield twice the output per cycle. See our Electrical Component farming guide for why this is particularly useful.

Golden Beer cannot be dropped randomly, cannot be crafted, and is not sold by any merchant. It is a story-locked progression reward tied exclusively to the Demeniss region.

Prerequisites — What You Need Before You Can Get Golden Beer

Golden Beer is locked behind two hard requirements. Both must be met before the House Byron questline becomes available:

  • Complete Chapter 8 of the main story — specifically, you must defeat the Keglord boss. The Dark Justiciar quest chain for House Byron becomes available immediately after Keglord goes down.
  • Complete all other Demeniss faction quests — the House Byron questline does not appear until the other Demeniss faction chains are finished. This includes the House Elmore questline, which walks you through the Eastern Court, Western Court, and Southern Court in sequence. Only once all three House Elmore courts are resolved does the House Byron chain (Dark Justice) unlock.

This is a significant time investment. Prepare your gear and Abyss Gear before starting — Burnhand Quarry has dense enemy groups and the boss fight at the end requires solid preparation. If the difficulty feels too steep, switching to Easy Mode temporarily is a valid option and does not affect the Golden Beer reward. See our guide on all difficulty modes in Crimson Desert for details.

The Dark Justiciar Quest Chain — Full Walkthrough

Once Chapter 8 is complete and all Demeniss faction quests are done, the Dark Justice quest chain for House Byron unlocks. This is a three-part questline.

Dark Justiciar Quest Chain
Dark Justiciar Quest Chain

Part 1 — A Secret Request (Start at Hayscent Farm)

The quest begins with a cryptic note. Head to Hayscent Farm in the west of Demeniss City. As you approach the farm, someone hands you Countess Azerian’s Secret Letter. The letter reveals that a man named Mazzul — the Dark Justiciar — is overseeing brimstone mining at Byron’s Burnhand Quarry, and he needs to be eliminated before he becomes a serious obstacle.

The letter also mentions a reward waiting at Crescent Lake behind the quarry after the job is done.

You do not technically need to complete A Secret Request before proceeding — you can skip straight to Burnhand Quarry and the boss if you want to save time.

Part 2 — One Step Ahead (Burnhand Quarry)

Travel to Burnhand Quarry, located north of the “E” in “Demeniss” on the map, near the Kingshield Mountains. The quarry has been seized by Mazzul and is filled with Righteous Inquisition soldiers.

Key shortcut: You do not need to clear every enemy in the quarry. The quest chain involves wiping out the Righteous Inquisition throughout the area, but you can make a direct line to Mazzul and fight him without grinding through every enemy group first. Find him in the southeast of the quarry — he is a large character with two black wings, visually distinct from regular enemies.

Part 3 — Crescent Lake

After defeating Mazzul and liberating Burnhand Quarry, Countess Azerian’s letter directs you to Crescent Lake, behind the quarry. Here, on a crescent-shaped island, the Knightlord’s Sword and Hidden Treasure Map Piece 12 are waiting as additional rewards. For all hidden treasure map locations, see our Hidden Treasure Map guide.

How to Beat Mazzul, the Dark Justiciar

Mazzul is a mid-to-late game faction boss. He has a strong offense but limited defense, which means aggressive play can work — but only if you avoid his punishing counters.

Before the Fight — Preparation

  • Clear the nearby enemies in the quarry before engaging Mazzul. Getting overwhelmed by adds during the boss fight will drain your health fast.
  • Stock up on healing food before entering. Grilled Meat is the easiest option — buy from any Butcher. For the best healing consumables, see our guide on cooking the best healing food.
  • Make sure your armor and weapons are reinforced. See our guides on best armor and best weapons if you need an upgrade before this fight.

Mazzul’s Attack Patterns

Mazzul primarily uses two types of attacks:

  • Heavy swings — wide arcing melee attacks with strong knockback. Focus on dodging rather than blocking.
  • Area attacks — ground-based slams that cover a radius around him. Move away from the impact zone before they land.

He is not a complex moveset boss — the main challenge is not being greedy. His counterattacks are punishing and overcommitting to combos will drain your health fast.

How to Deal Damage

  • Wait for recovery windows after his heavy attacks. These are your best windows for consistent damage.
  • Attack from behind when possible — just like most bosses in Crimson Desert, getting behind Mazzul after a combo deals significantly more damage.
  • Bow builds excel here. Mazzul is particularly vulnerable to ranged attack — fire Explosive Arrows from a distance using Focus and Keen Senses to avoid most of his attacks while dealing heavy damage. See our infinite arrow archer build guide for a strong bow setup.
  • Stagger-heavy abilities are effective. Mazzul is vulnerable during stagger states, so abilities that proc stagger frequently allow for extended burst damage windows.

Golden Beer Reward — What You Get from Mazzul

Defeating Mazzul rewards three items:

  • Golden Beer — permanently doubles all Greymane Dispatch mission rewards.
  • Sanguine Knell Two-Handed Mace — Oongka-only gear.
  • Ashad Plate Gauntlets — Oongka-only gear.

The mace and gauntlets are locked to Oongka. Do not expect new gear for Kliff or Damiane from this fight — only Golden Beer benefits them directly.

How to Use Golden Beer

Open your inventory and find Golden Beer under special consumables. Select it and use it. There are no conditions, no timing requirements, and no cooldown. The passive double-rewards effect applies immediately and stays active for the rest of your playthrough.

Use it the moment you pick it up. There is no strategic reason to hold it. The sooner you use it, the more dispatch runs it enhances. Every mission your Greymanes complete from that point forward returns double rewards.

To verify it is working, check the next dispatch payout and confirm the values are doubled compared to what you would normally expect.

Note on older patches: Before Patch 1.04, Golden Beer had a known bug where the double-rewards effect would silently stop applying after a few hours. This was fixed in Patch 1.04. If you are on the current patch, the effect is permanent and will not drop off.

Tips for Maximising Golden Beer Value

  • Get it as early as possible. The sooner you complete Chapter 8 and the Demeniss faction quests, the more dispatch runs you can double for the rest of the game. Do not leave it for endgame.
  • Pair it with the Reachwood Ruins dispatch if you have unlocked it at Pororin — doubled Palmar Leaf output makes that otherwise inefficient mission much more viable. See our Palmar Leaf farming guide for full dispatch details.
  • Stack dispatch missions. With Golden Beer active, run as many parallel dispatch missions as your Greymane roster allows. Every mission running simultaneously means doubled rewards across all of them at the same time.
  • Focus on camp development dispatches after getting Golden Beer. Doubled camp material returns mean your camp upgrades happen much faster.
  • If you are still preparing for the Chapter 8 content needed to unlock this, work on collecting good gear and useful consumables in the meantime. Our guide on how to get the Full Riding Outfit Set is one example of useful Demeniss-region content to complete while progressing toward Chapter 8 — the Darkhorse Grand Prix and Horse Fair Races are both in Demeniss.
