The Kuku Lightning Spear is one of the best craftable spears in Crimson Desert. Every thrust fires a burst of blue lightning that paralyzes enemies and deals bonus lightning damage. It’s fast, it hits in a wide arc, and unlike the base Lightning Spear — which shatters after a handful of uses — the Kuku version has no durability at all. It’s permanent, refinable, and slots five Abyss Gears.
The road to crafting it takes some setup, but it’s well worth it.
What Is the Kuku Lightning Spear?
The Kuku Lightning Spear is a two-handed spear reinforced through the Kuku system at the Kilnden Workshop. It carries the Lightning Imbuement effect as a built-in passive, meaning every hit deals bonus lightning damage and applies a shock effect that briefly paralyzes enemies. It also has implicit Attack Speed and Movement Speed bonuses, which makes it one of the faster-feeling heavy weapons in the game.
Unlike the base Lightning Spear — which has just 50 durability and breaks permanently after heavy use — the Kuku version has no durability limit. It comes with 5 Abyss Gear slots and can be refined at any blacksmith, making it a viable weapon deep into the endgame.
The weapon holds 10 Lightning charges that deplete as you attack, and regenerates one charge every two seconds. Given how fast spear attacks fire, you’ll burn through charges quickly — but the regen rate keeps them coming back at a decent pace.
Prerequisites — What You Need Before Crafting
Before you can craft the Kuku Lightning Spear, you need to work through a few things:
The Kuku Pot — You need this to carry Electrical Components and to use Grimnir’s crafting system. You earn it during the Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest in Chapter 4. If you haven’t done that yet, check our Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop guide.
Access to Sanctums (Chapter 5) — Sanctums are locked until you complete the Missing Seal quest in Chapter 5, which unlocks the Witch of Wisdom in Hernand’s Witchwoods. You can’t cleanse any sanctum before this point.
Step 1 — Get Blueprint I: Kuku Spear (Sanctum of Absolution)
The first blueprint you need is Blueprint I: Kuku Spear. This is the base recipe that unlocks the Kuku Spear — the intermediate weapon used in crafting the Lightning version.
You get it by cleansing the Sanctum of Absolution, which is located far south of Hernand, near the plains where you fight the Reed Devil. Travel south from Hernand past the Goldleaf Merchant area until you reach the Sanctum.
To cleanse it you need to defeat Antumbra’s Sword — the boss guarding the Sanctum — and then restore the large generator inside after clearing all the enemies in the area. Once that’s done, the Blueprint I: Kuku Spear recipe unlocks automatically at the Kilnden Workshop.

Step 2 — Get Blueprint II: Kuku Lightning Spear (Sanctum of Temperance)
The second blueprint unlocks the actual Lightning Spear upgrade recipe. You get Blueprint II: Kuku Lightning Spear by cleansing the Sanctum of Temperance, located in Delesyia, southeast of Hernand.
The Sanctum of Temperance is tied to the Witch of Wisdom questline and accessible from Chapter 5 onward. To cleanse it, you need to liberate it from Umbra followers first, then solve the interior puzzle.
The puzzle involves finding the Fusion Reactor Core at the bottom of the stairway near the Sanctum entrance. Seal it inside your Kuku Pot using Axiom Force. Head up to the main area, burn off the vines on the walls using Blinding Flash, climb to the top, burn the vines on the roof, and drop through the ceiling hole into the locked room below. Once inside, place the Fusion Reactor Core into the square slot on the main machine. After a cutscene with the Witch, you receive both the Kuku Lightning Spear and Kuku Bird Boltspitter Blueprints as your reward.

Step 3 — Get the Base Lightning Spear
To craft the Kuku Lightning Spear, you need an actual Lightning Spear as a base component. It’s a limited-durability item, so don’t use it in combat once you have it — you need it intact for crafting.
Primary location: Head to Pailune and find the Black Wall Bandit Camp, located just north of the letter “E” in the word “Pailune” on your map, next to the Upper Den River. Look for the Dangsan Tree above the river — the camp is above it. Clear out all the enemies in the camp, and the Lightning Spear will be sitting on a weapon rack in the middle of the area. Pick it up but hold off on using it.
Alternative method: Members of the Dusksong faction in Crimson Desert sometimes carry Lightning Spears. You can disarm them by blocking one of their attacks with a shield and immediately pressing the Heavy Attack button to perform a shield bash — this knocks the weapon out of their hands for you to pick up. Late-game alternative: After reaching Chapter 12, you can unlock the Lightning Spear blueprint through research at Dewhaven Keep in Delesyia (first level of Dewhaven Keep Facility Research). This lets you craft as many as you want from a smithy — useful if you’re farming the Special Equipment Challenge that requires 30 kills with the base Lightning Spear.
Step 4 — Farm Electrical Components
Electrical Components are a large item dropped by big bipedal robots in Delesyia. The southeastern portion of the region — particularly around Marni’s Laboratorium Gate — is full of these elite mech enemies.
Defeat them and pick up the large blue batteries they drop. The catch: these are oversized items that require a Kuku Pot to seal and carry. Use Axiom Force to grab the dropped component, then press the Seal prompt to store it inside your Kuku Pot. You can’t pick them up by hand.

Step 5 — Farm Small Batteries
Small Batteries are standard-sized drops from smaller mech and humanoid machine enemies throughout Delesyia. The entire southeast portion of the country is packed with these robots, so farming them alongside Electrical Components in the same area is efficient.
Small Batteries pick up normally without needing the Kuku Pot. Grab as many as you can in a single run to avoid return trips.
Step 6 — Craft the Kuku Spear First
Before you can craft the Kuku Lightning Spear, you need to first craft a base Kuku Spear at Grimnir’s Kuku Shop. This is a prerequisite — the Kuku Spear acts as the structural base into which the Lightning Spear is fused.
Head to Grimnir’s Kuku Shop at the Kilnden Workshop, located west of Hernand. Open the crafting menu and select Blueprint I: Kuku Spear. Craft it using the required materials.
Step 7 — Craft the Kuku Lightning Spear
With all components in hand, return to Grimnir’s Kuku Shop at the Kilnden Workshop. Open the crafting menu and select Blueprint II: Kuku Lightning Spear.
The core materials required are:
- 1x Kuku Spear (crafted in the previous step)
- 1x Lightning Spear (from Black Wall Bandit Camp in Pailune)
- Electrical Components (from large mechs in Delesyia — requires Kuku Pot)
- Small Batteries (from smaller mechs in southeastern Delesyia)
Confirm the craft and the Kuku Lightning Spear appears in your inventory. From this point on it has no durability — you can use it freely in combat without fear of it breaking.
Kuku Lightning Spear Stats and Why It’s Worth It
The Kuku Lightning Spear is an Epic-tier two-handed weapon with base Attack ranging from 12 to 35 across its 11 refinement levels. Its stats at a glance:
Built-in Lightning Imbuement — Every hit deals bonus lightning damage and applies a brief paralysis (Shock) to enemies. This is especially punishing against wet enemies or in combination with other elemental attack builds.
10 Lightning Charges — Each charged attack expends a charge. Charges regenerate at one per two seconds, which is fast enough to sustain aggressive combat.
Attack Speed + Movement Speed — The implicit stats make Kliff move and swing faster, keeping it competitive with faster one-handed options while still hitting like a two-hander.

Tips for Using the Kuku Lightning Spear
Save the base Lightning Spear for crafting — Don’t swing it at enemies. It has only 50 durability and breaks permanently. Walk it straight to Grimnir once you have it.
Complete the Special Equipment Challenge first — There’s a challenge to defeat 30 enemies with the base Lightning Spear. The Kuku version does not count toward this challenge.
