Kamu’s Request is one of those quests that sounds simple but has quite a few steps hidden behind it. Before you can even plant a seed, you need to recruit the right NPC, complete two dispatch missions, and wait for a farm to be built at camp. Then comes the growing and harvesting. This guide covers the whole chain from start to finish.

Step 1 — Recruit Kamu

You can’t access farming or Kamu’s Request until Kamu is actually at your camp. He doesn’t show up on his own.

To recruit him, open your Journal and go to Faction Quests, then navigate to Grounds of the Sunrise. Complete the quest called A Rumor in Goldleaf Trading Post. Once that’s done, Kamu joins the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill.

Step 2 — Unlock the Farm (Two Dispatch Missions)

After Kamu is at camp, head to the Gathered Will tab in your Journal and pick up the Land of Dreams quest. This kicks off the farm unlock chain.

Dispatch 1 — Apple Harvest Mission at Glenbright Farms:

Talk to Ross, the Dispatch Coordinator at Howling Hill. Select Mission Dispatch, navigate to the Glenbright Farms area on the dispatch map, and select the Apple Harvest Mission. Assign your available Freeswords to the job. This mission takes approximately 16 real-time hours to complete. There’s no way to speed it up, so start it before you log off or move on to other content.

Dispatch 2 — Build the Farm at Howling Hill:

Once your Freeswords return from Glenbright Farms, visit Greymane’s Camp to receive the build order. Then dispatch a construction mission at Howling Hill to build the farm facility. This takes approximately 18 real-time hours to complete.

One important thing: you cannot run two construction missions at the same time. If you’re also planning to unlock the ranch, build the farm first. Apple trees take real time to grow, so starting the farm early means your first batch will be ready sooner. You can run the ranch build after.

You’ll need a Freesword with the Builder skill in your roster for the construction mission. Without a Builder, the farm construction dispatch won’t appear as an option.

Step 3 — Talk to Kamu and Get Your Seeds

Once the farm is built, Kamu will walk you through the basics. Speak with him to officially start Kamu’s Request. He’ll hand you 5 Apple Seeds for free to get you started. Make sure the seeds appear in your inventory before you head to the farm.

Step 4 — Plant the Apple Seeds

Head to the farm’s land parcels. You’ll see pre-dug holes in the ground — these are the only valid planting spots. Planting anywhere else won’t count toward quest progress.

Here’s an important step players often miss: you must equip the seeds from your inventory before planting. Simply having them in your bag isn’t enough.

Once the seeds are equipped, position yourself next to a hole and hold the interaction button — X on controller — until the planting animation finishes. Repeat this for each available slot.

Step 5 — Wait for the Apple Trees to Grow

After planting, the waiting begins. Apple trees take 4 in-game days — roughly 8 real-time hours — to fully grow and bear fruit.

On the third in-game day you’ll notice a small sprout has appeared, but apple trees only produce fruit once fully mature. Don’t try to harvest early. Wait until you can see actual apples on the branches before interacting.

Do you need to water the trees? For this first harvest, no. The trees will grow on their own without any watering or fertilizer. That said, watering does speed up the process if you’d rather not wait the full time. It also matters for any future harvests — after the initial crop is picked, you’ll need to water the trees for them to bear fruit again.

How to water your crops later on: Watering is done with a tool called the Field Sprayer. You get the crafting recipe automatically when you complete the Vellua Fishermen’s Guild faction quest Beyond the Silent Waves, which unlocks in Chapter 5. A Fertilizer Sprayer also becomes available the same way.

One bonus tip: if it starts raining while you’re at camp, manually water your crops during the rain. The combination of watering plus rainfall gives a hidden growth boost that’s faster than either method alone.

To pass the time while waiting: Rest at a bed or sit by a bonfire inside Howling Hill camp. Both let you skip ahead in-game hours without having to wait in real time.

Step 6 — Harvest the Apples

Once the trees are fully grown and you can see apples hanging from the branches, approach a tree and interact with it to harvest. Make sure you collect all available produce. Partially harvesting — missing even one apple — can sometimes prevent the quest from registering as complete.

Step 7 — Hand Over the Apples to Kamu

Head back to Kamu with your harvested apples. Start the dialogue and hand them over. He’ll confirm the process worked and say that experiencing it himself gives him a better method for training the other Greymanes in cultivation.

Rewards:

  • 1x Medium Bag (+3 inventory slots)
  • +50 Greymane Contribution Points

The Medium Bag is valuable early on when your inventory space is limited.

Kamu’s Request Bug — Trees Not Appearing

This is a known issue. After waiting the full growth time, some players find no trees visible at the farm plots. The quest marker still points to the right spot but nothing is there.

This is a state-refresh bug, not a permanent problem. The fix is straightforward:

  1. Manually save your game
  2. Exit to the main menu
  3. Reload your save file

In almost every case, the trees will appear fully grown when you load back in. This is currently the most reliable fix for the issue.

Farming After Kamu’s Request

Once you hand over the apples, the farm is yours to use freely going forward. Kamu’s Request essentially serves as the tutorial introduction to Crimson Desert’s full farming system. Everything you learned here carries over.

The farm has 16 land parcels total. You can plant apple and grape seeds from the start, and more seed types open up as you progress. You can also extract seeds from any fruit you pick up in the wild — just check the Use options on the fruit in your inventory. Some fruit items let you deseed them directly, which saves you the cost of buying from Kamu.

Later in the game, a Magic Sickle becomes available. It lets you harvest an entire row of crops in a single swing, which makes the late-game farming loop much faster.
