TL;DR
- The Sanctum of Solace is southwest of Pailune City, east of Bari’s house at Crimson Lake.
- You cannot cleanse it until you’ve met Bari, the Witch of Kindness, at Silverwolf Cave and Crimson Lake.
- Clear the regular enemies first, then defeat the Antumbra’s Staff boss to finish liberation.
- Interrupt Antumbra’s Staff slam with Force Palm — don’t let the charge complete or you’ll take massive damage.
- Defeating him drops Guidance of Dark Pursuit, a powerful weapon for Oongka.
- Core XXXV-II is between two columns near a small water pool behind the boss arena.
- Core XV is accessible through a gap in the wall — grab it through the bars with Axiom Force.
- Open the chest behind Core XV before you leave.
- Slot both Cores into the generator using Force Palm / Aerial Force Palm.
- Reward: Blueprint II: Kuku Bismuth Spear.
The Sanctum of Solace is the second of Bari’s four sanctums in Pailune and it’s a step up in difficulty from the Sanctum of Exaltation. The Core retrieval is more disorienting — one is in an open pool area and the other is locked behind bars, requiring you to use Axiom Force at an awkward angle to pull it through. And before any of that happens, you need to take down a genuine boss: Antumbra’s Staff.
This guide walks you through the full liberation, the boss fight, both Cores, and the generator.

Sanctum Of Solace Location In Crimson Desert

The Sanctum of Solace sits southwest of Pailune City, east of Bari’s witch house on Crimson Lake. On the map, aim for the letter “A” in Pailune — the Sanctum is just nearby. It’s close enough that you can ride from Bari’s house directly to it in under a minute on horseback.
If you have an Abyss Nexus fast travel point anywhere in southwestern Pailune, use it and follow the path east toward the ruins.
Prerequisite: You must have completed both meetings with Bari — first at Silverwolf Cave (warming her by the brazier) and then at her house on Crimson Lake — before the Fusion Reactor Cores become interactive. You can kill enemies and clear the liberation bar without meeting Bari, but the puzzle elements stay locked until her quest is active in your journal. Track it under Journal → Faction Quests → Witch of Kindness.

Step 1 — Clear The Regular Enemies
When you arrive, the green liberation bar appears on the left side of the screen. Work through the Antumbra cultists spread across the Sanctum grounds. Take out the ranged fighters on the upper walls and ledges first — they’ll disrupt your Axiom Force channeling during the puzzle if left alive.
Don’t bother trying to collect dropped loot mid-fight. Any items left on the ground when the liberation bar hits 0% are automatically sent to your Camp’s Supply Chest. Nothing is wasted.
Unlike the Sanctum of Exaltation where clearing all enemies completes liberation, the Sanctum of Solace adds one more requirement: a boss fight. The green bar won’t fully drop to 0% until Antumbra’s Staff is defeated.
Step 2 — Defeat Antumbra’s Staff (Boss Fight)
After the regular enemies are down, Antumbra’s Staff will engage. This is a staff-wielding Antumbra commander and the toughest enemy in this Sanctum. The green liberation bar won’t reach 0% until he’s dead.
Antumbra’s Staff moves to know:
The Slam: Antumbra’s Staff charges his staff with dark energy and drives it into the ground. This is his most dangerous hit. The slam releases a shockwave and deals very heavy damage if it connects. Interrupt it with Force Palm the moment you see him begin the wind-up. A clean Force Palm interrupt staggers him and gives you a free combo window. Don’t try to dodge through it — the shockwave has a wide radius and will still catch you.
Wide Swing Combos: He follows up with 2-3 horizontal sweeps after most of his poke attacks. Back off and let the full combo finish before punishing. Trying to counter mid-chain gets you caught by the late swings.
Ranged Energy Burst: At lower health, he fires a concentrated burst of dark energy in a straight line. Move sideways to dodge it — don’t back up or it will track slightly.
Tips for the fight:
- Bring at least 2-3 Palmar Pills so you can continue after being downed without restarting.
- Pack healing food before arriving. Clear soup is easy to make and reliable. For a recipe, check our healing food guide.
- Make sure your gear is upgraded to Tier 3 or higher before attempting this fight. If your equipment is still Tier 1-2, the boss will shred through your health pool quickly. Read our how to upgrade weapons and armor guide if you need to level up first.
- Treat this as a war of attrition. Don’t get greedy. Land 2-3 hits after his combos end, then back off and reset.
- Use your Blinding Flash ability to interrupt his longer charge-up attacks. This works similarly to how it helps in other boss encounters. If you haven’t mastered this move yet, read our Blinding Flash guide.
- The Crowcaller sword’s homing projectile is effective here for building damage from a safe distance.
Once Antumbra’s Staff is defeated, the liberation bar hits 0% and the puzzle elements activate. You also receive the Guidance of Dark Pursuit — a strong Oongka-type weapon. It’s one of the better mid-game weapons available in Pailune at this point. Check your bag immediately after the fight; it goes directly to inventory.

Step 3 — Find Fusion Reactor Core XXXV-II
After the boss fight, turn back from where you defeated Antumbra’s Staff. Head toward the small water pool in the lower section behind the boss arena. Near the pool, you’ll spot two stone columns standing close together.
Fusion Reactor Core XXXV-II is located between those two columns, resting on the ground. Use Axiom Force to grab it, then select Seal to lock it inside your Kuku Pot. Having the Kuku Pot for hands-free carrying is strongly recommended here — the generator is a distance away and dragging with Axiom Force the whole way is tedious. If you’re missing the Kuku Pot, see our crafting guide for the Kuku Pack.
Step 4 — Find Fusion Reactor Core XV (Behind The Bars)
From the water pool area, turn around and look for the gap in the wall ahead of you. Walk through it into the adjacent corridor. You’ll find yourself in a narrow passage with iron bars blocking part of the space.
Fusion Reactor Core XV sits on the other side of the bars — you cannot walk through to reach it directly. Instead, use Axiom Force to reach through the bars and grab it remotely. Aim carefully and extend the force beam through the gap in the bars until it locks onto the Core. Once you have a grip, pull it through toward you.
When the Core is on your side of the bars, seal it in your Kuku Pot.
Before you leave this corridor, look behind the position where Core XV was sitting. There is a chest on the floor just behind it. Open it for bonus loot before moving on. This is easy to miss when you’re focused on grabbing the Core.
Step 5 — Slot Both Cores Into The Generator
With both Cores in your Kuku Pot, head to the generator at the main structure of the Sanctum. The generator has two slots waiting for the Cores. Use the same process as in every Sanctum:
- Open your Kuku Pot and discard both Cores to drop them near the generator.
- Use Axiom Force to hover each Core in front of its matching slot.
- Rotate the Core using your controller triggers or mouse scroll wheel if it doesn’t immediately align with the slot shape.
- For ground-level slots: use Force Palm to punch it in.
- For elevated pillar slots: climb the pillar, jump off, and use Aerial Force Palm to drive the Core down into place from above.
When a Core is correctly seated, it will emit a green glow to confirm the slot is filled. If there’s no green glow, the Core isn’t properly aligned — pick it up and try again.
Once both Cores glow green, the generator activates. For a full breakdown of Axiom Force mechanics, see our dedicated Axiom Force guide.

Reward For Completing Sanctum Of Solace
After the generator activates, Bari appears in a short cutscene. You receive:
- Blueprint II: Kuku Bismuth Spear — A mid-range spear with solid base damage and good swing speed. Strong against the enemy types you’ll face in the Sanctum of Deliverance and Sanctum of Atonement next.
The blueprint goes directly to your Crafting menu. If you don’t see it in your inventory after the cutscene, check under Crafting → Kuku Weapons at any Smithy.
Bari’s Remaining Sanctums In Pailune
Two more to go after Solace:
Sanctum of Deliverance — Southeast of Stormtalon Ridge in eastern Pailune. Follow the dirt path from the highlands toward the mountains. Contains a tough group of ranged Antumbra fighters. Reward: Kuku Spiral Spear Blueprint.
Sanctum of Atonement — North of Hernand. Look north of the first “A” in Hernand on the map. This is the toughest of Bari’s four sanctums in terms of enemy numbers. Reward: Kuku Rotating Blade Blueprint.
Complete all four and return to Bari’s house on Crimson Lake to finish her questline and collect your Witch’s Token. You’ll need all four Witch’s Tokens from every witch to unlock the White Crow’s Hideout in Wayward Woods.
Common Problems And Fixes
Liberation bar won’t drop to 0%.
Antumbra’s Staff must be defeated. Regular cultists alone won’t fully clear the bar. Find and fight the boss in the main courtyard after handling the standard enemies.
Core XV won’t respond to Axiom Force.
You either haven’t activated Bari’s questline yet, or you’re not aiming through the gap in the bars precisely enough. Line up your Axiom Force beam to pass through the gap, not at the bars themselves. Adjust your angle and zoom in closer.
Core dropped and disappeared.
If you dropped a Core and wandered too far, it despawns. Both Cores respawn at their original locations: XXXV-II at the two-column spot near the water pool, and XV behind the bars in the corridor. If neither location shows the Core, check the Lost Item bin at your base camp for 10 silver.
Generator slot won’t accept the Core.
Alignment is the issue. Rotate the Core with controller triggers or mouse wheel until the shape matches the slot. Use Force Palm for flat slots. Use Aerial Force Palm for slots on top of pillars.
No green glow after slotting.
The Core isn’t fully in. Use Force Palm again to push it flush into the slot, or pick it up and re-attempt the angle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fight Antumbra’s Staff before activating Bari’s quest?
Yes. You can clear the entire Sanctum of enemies at any time. But the Cores won’t respond and the generator won’t activate until Bari’s quest is live in your journal.
Do I need the Kuku Pot for this puzzle?
No, but it makes carrying both Cores much easier. Without it, you drag them manually with Axiom Force the entire way. The Kuku Pot handles both Cores hands-free.
What level should I be before fighting Antumbra’s Staff?
Aim for Tier 3 or higher gear before engaging. If the boss defeats you in 2-3 hits, your equipment needs upgrading. See our how to get better equipment guide.
What is the Guidance of Dark Pursuit used for?
It’s a weapon designed for Oongka-type combat. It has solid stats for the Pailune mid-game and comes with built-in Abyss Gear slots. Socket it at any Witch’s workshop to further improve its performance.
Do I have to complete the Sanctums in order?
No. You can cleanse Bari’s four sanctums in any order once her quest is active. The Sanctum of Solace is simply the closest one to her house.
