TL;DR
- The Sanctum of Exaltation is east of Silver Wolf Mountain, northeast of Crimson Lake in Pailune.
- You cannot start this puzzle until you’ve met Bari, the Witch of Kindness, at Crimson Lake.
- Clear all Umbra enemies first. Focus high-ground archers early — they interrupt Axiom Force.
- Smash the crystallized water in the rear courtyard to drain the flooded gap. Core LIV-II is inside.
- Jump down the front space to grab Core XVI. Open the chest behind it.
- Don’t miss the sealed room near the stairs — light both lanterns to unlock it and get the hidden treasure chest.
- Slot both Cores into the generator using Axiom Force + Force Palm / Aerial Force Palm.
- Rewards: Blueprint II: High Mobility A.T.A.G and Blueprint II: Kuku Flame Spear.
The Sanctum of Exaltation is the first of four sanctums in the Witch of Kindness questline. On the surface it looks similar to Hernand’s sanctums — clear enemies, find the Fusion Reactor Cores, slot them into the generator. But Exaltation has a mechanic that none of the earlier sanctums use: one of the Cores is underwater, and your Axiom Force doesn’t work through liquid. You have to drain the water first. That’s where most players get stuck.
This guide covers every step from arrival to completion, including the secret room most players walk past.

Sanctum Of Exaltation Location In Crimson Desert

The Sanctum of Exaltation sits east of Silver Wolf Mountain in Pailune, northeast of Crimson Lake. On your map, Crimson Lake is where Bari’s witch house is located — the Sanctum of Exaltation is just a short ride northeast from there, making it a natural first stop once you’ve unlocked Bari’s quest.
A dirt path runs northwest from Pailune City toward Silver Wolf Mountain. Follow it and veer east when you spot the ruined stone complex rising above the surrounding forest.
Prerequisite: You must have visited Bari at Crimson Lake (her second meeting location, south of Silver Wolf Mountain) and accepted her sanctum quest before the Fusion Reactor Cores and generator become interactive. You can arrive early, kill the enemies, and clear the liberation bar — but the puzzle pieces will not respond until the Witch of Kindness questline is active in your journal. Track it under Journal → Faction Quests → Witch of Kindness.

Step 1 — Liberate The Sanctum (Clear All Enemies)
When you arrive, a green liberation bar appears on the left side of your screen. It shows the percentage of Umbra forces still alive in the Sanctum perimeter. You must bring this to 0% before the puzzle will unlock.
The enemy layout here includes:
- Antumbra melee fighters patrolling the courtyard
- High-ground archers on the walls and upper ledges
- Occasionally, an Antumbra caster who channels at range
Take out the archers on the high ground first. This is important. If you leave them alive while trying to handle the puzzle later, they will interrupt your Axiom Force channeling mid-drag. Losing grip on a Fusion Reactor Core mid-carry means starting that carry all over again. Clear the elevated threats before going near the generator.
Don’t stop to loot during the fight. Any loot left on the ground when the liberation bar hits 0% is automatically sent to your Camp’s Supply Chest. You won’t lose a single drop. Focus entirely on clearing enemies first.
For help handling the ranged enemies, check our guide on fighting flying enemies in Crimson Desert if any airborne cultists appear.
Once the bar hits 0%, the Sanctum is liberated and the puzzle elements activate.
Step 2 — Drain The Water (Find Fusion Reactor Core LIV-II)
Move to the rear of the main courtyard. You’ll find a large, water-filled gap in the floor. The first Fusion Reactor Core — LIV-II — is submerged at the bottom. The problem: your Axiom Force cannot grab objects through liquid. You need to drain the water before you can retrieve it.

Look at the wall just behind this gap. You’ll see a formation of crystallized water — a pale, ice-like growth attached to the wall. Attack it with any standard weapon. A few hits will shatter it completely.
Once the crystallized growth breaks, the water in the gap begins draining. Wait a moment for it to empty. When the gap is fully drained, you’ll see Core LIV-II sitting in the now-dry space at the bottom.
Use Axiom Force to grab it, then select Seal to lock it inside your Kuku Pot for hands-free carrying. If you don’t have your Kuku Pot yet, read our Kuku Pack crafting guide. You can carry the Core manually with Axiom Force, but the Kuku Pot is far easier for navigating the Sanctum.
Stamina note: Dragging Reactor Cores with Axiom Force drains your stamina quickly. Eat a meal before the puzzle phase begins to keep your stamina bar full. Stamina running out mid-drag will cause you to drop the Core.
Step 3 — Get The Hidden Chest (Sealed Room Near The Stairs)
Before finding the second Core, grab the hidden chest most players miss entirely.
Look for the sealed room just to the left of the crystallized water location, or just below the stairs leading into the rear section of the Sanctum. The gate is shut. Two stone lanterns flank the gate — one on each side.
Light both lanterns to open the gate. Once both are lit, the gate swings open. Inside is a Treasure Chest containing gear and crafting materials. This chest is completely skippable and easy to overlook — don’t leave without it.

Step 4 — Find Fusion Reactor Core XVI
Return to the main courtyard and face the front of the Sanctum. Look for an open space directly ahead of you — the game’s prompt refers to it as “up front.” Jump down into this lower space.
Fusion Reactor Core XVI is sitting on the ground at the bottom. Use Axiom Force to grab it, then select Seal to store it in your Kuku Pot alongside LIV-II.
While you’re down here, open the chest directly behind Core XVI. It contains additional loot and is easy to grab while you’re already in the space.
If a Core disappears: If you drop a Core and walk too far away, the game will despawn it. Don’t worry — Cores in this Sanctum respawn at their original locations. LIV-II reappears in the drained gap at the rear. XVI reappears in the front lower space. You won’t softlock the puzzle.

Step 5 — Slot Both Cores Into The Generator
With both Cores in your Kuku Pot, head to the generator — the large machine at the center of the Sanctum courtyard. It has two square-shaped slots on its face, each waiting for a Core.
Here’s how to slot them:
- Discard a Core from your Kuku Pot by selecting it and choosing Discard. It lands near your feet.
- Use Axiom Force to grab the Core and hover it directly in front of the correct slot on the generator.
- For ground-level slots: use Force Palm to punch it straight in.
- For elevated pillar slots (if present): position the Core above the pillar, climb up, then jump and use Aerial Force Palm to drive it into place from above.
If a Core doesn’t seat properly, pick it back up with Axiom Force, rotate it using your controller triggers or mouse wheel to adjust the angle, then try again. Incorrect alignment is the most common reason the slot doesn’t accept the piece.
Repeat for both Cores. Once both are seated, the generator activates with a power-up sound and a short animation.

Rewards For Completing The Sanctum Of Exaltation
After the generator activates, Bari appears in a short cutscene to acknowledge the cleansed Sanctum. You automatically receive two Kuku weapon blueprints:
- Blueprint II: High Mobility A.T.A.G — A fast-firing Kuku ranged launcher with high mobility stats. Strong for hit-and-run combat approaches.
- Blueprint II: Kuku Flame Spear — A mid-range spear variant with fire-element damage. Excellent against Abyss-corrupted enemies in the remaining Pailune sanctums.
Both blueprints go directly into your Crafting menu — not your physical inventory. If you don’t see them in your bags after the cutscene, check under Crafting → Kuku Weapons at any Smithy.
Bari’s Other Three Sanctums In Pailune
The Sanctum of Exaltation is the first of four. Here are the other three Bari needs you to cleanse:
Sanctum of Solace — Southwest of Pailune City, east of Bari’s house at Crimson Lake. Aim for the “A” in Pailune on the map. Contains a boss fight: Antumbra’s Staff. Reward: Kuku Flare Lance Blueprint.
Sanctum of Deliverance — Southeast of Stormtalon Ridge in the mountains of eastern Pailune. Follow the dirt path from the highlands. Reward: Kuku Spiral Spear Blueprint.
Sanctum of Atonement — North of Hernand (yes, back into Hernand territory). Look north of the first “A” in Hernand on the map. Contains the toughest enemy group of the four. Reward: Kuku Rotating Blade Blueprint.
Complete all four and return to Bari’s house on Crimson Lake to finish her questline and collect your Witch’s Token — one of four tokens needed to unlock the White Crow’s Hideout in Wayward Woods.
Common Problems And Fixes
The Cores won’t respond when I interact with them.
You haven’t activated the Witch of Kindness questline yet. Visit Bari at Crimson Lake first. The puzzle pieces are completely non-interactive until her quest is in your journal.
Axiom Force can’t grab the Core in the water gap.
You haven’t smashed the crystallized water yet. Find the pale crystalline growth on the wall behind the gap and attack it. Once it shatters, the water drains and the Core becomes accessible.
I dropped a Core and it disappeared.
Cores respawn at their original pickup locations if they fall into an unreachable area. Check the drained rear gap for LIV-II and the front lower space for XVI. If both locations are empty, check the Lost Item bin at your base camp — recovery costs 10 silver.
The generator slot isn’t accepting my Core.
The angle is wrong. Rotate the Core with your controller triggers or mouse scroll wheel until it aligns with the slot shape, then use Force Palm or Aerial Force Palm to drive it in.
I didn’t get any blueprint rewards after the cutscene.
The blueprints go directly to your Crafting menu, not your inventory. Check Crafting → Kuku Weapons at any Smithy. They don’t appear as physical items.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I cleanse the Sanctum before meeting Bari?
No. You can kill the enemies and clear the liberation bar at any time, but the Fusion Reactor Cores and generator are not interactive until you’ve met Bari at Crimson Lake and accepted her quest.
Do I need the Kuku Pot for this puzzle?
You can carry the Cores manually with Axiom Force, but this is significantly harder. The Kuku Pot lets you carry both Cores hands-free and move normally. It’s strongly recommended.
What happens if I run out of stamina while carrying a Core?
You drop the Core. It stays where it lands — it won’t despawn as long as you stay in the Sanctum area. Eat a stamina-restoring meal before the puzzle phase to prevent this.
Does completing this sanctum give me a Witch’s Token?
No. You only receive a Witch’s Token after all four of Bari’s sanctums are cleansed. Return to Bari’s house on Crimson Lake after completing all four.
Can the puzzle reset if I log out mid-way?
Cleared enemies don’t respawn. Placed Cores stay placed. Any loose Cores that were dropped will respawn at their original locations. You can safely continue across multiple sessions.
