The Short Circuit challenge is part of the Horizon Decades Summer Festival Playlist. The challenge is called Short Circuit, and the requirement says: Win a race at the Shimanoyama Circuit in any car from the 1980s. Completing it gives 1 Festival Playlist point and 5,000 Credits.

The wording seems clear. The problem is what it does not say.

Why Is the Short Circuit Challenge Not Completing?

This is the question that flooded the FH6 forums after the challenge launched. A developer confirmed in the Steam forums that this event needs to be completed in the default festival event, “Eclectic Domestics”.

The main reason players fail this daily challenge is the difference between the description and the actual game requirement. The actual requirement is to complete the official Festival Event race connected to the circuit.

In other words:

• Driving the circuit in free roam: does not count.
• Setting up a custom race at the circuit: does not count.
• Creating an EventLab version: does not count.
• Winning the official Eclectic Domestics Festival Event: this is the only thing that counts.

Just driving around the Shimanoyama Circuit in your car in the open world will not complete this, nor will setting up a custom event. You need to do the festival event, so don’t waste time trying other options.

Where Is Shimanoyama Circuit?

The Shimanoyama Circuit can be found in the northeastern section of the Shimanoyama region. Although the Shimanoyama region stretches across much of the western coastline of the map, the circuit itself sits near the region’s upper-right border.

On the map it is easy to spot once you know what to look for:

• It is directly southwest of the pale green fields on your map and directly north of the Horizon Festival Site.
• Shimanoyama Circuit unlocks after completing Pier Pressure (Green Wristband). The event restriction is Eclectic Domestics.

What Cars Can You Use for the Short Circuit Challenge?

This is the second major trap. The Eclectic Domestics event has its own car class restriction, which means you cannot just show up in any 1980s car you happen to own. The car must be both from the 1980s and qualify as an Eclectic Domestic.

There are just two such cars on the Autoshow: the 1984 Honda City E II and the 1989 Nissan S-Cargo.

A third option is available as a Barn Find:

• The 1989 Nissan PAO is a barn find unlocked by earning 5,000 Discover Japan Points to obtain the Blue Stamp.

So your eligible car list is:

• 1984 Honda City E II – available in the Autoshow; the most popular pick for this challenge
• 1989 Nissan S-Cargo – available in the Autoshow
• 1989 Nissan PAO – unlocked as a Barn Find via Discover Japan stamp progression

The safest car to use is the 1984 Honda City E II because it is a 1980s car, fits the small-car theme of the event, and is strong enough for the tight circuit when upgraded properly.

Cars like the 1980 Fiat, the 1981 BMW M1, the 1986 Lancia Delta S4, or any other 1980s performance car will not satisfy the Eclectic Domestics restriction, even though they are technically from the right decade. The combined requirements mean you basically have three choices: the Honda City E II, Nissan PAO, and Nissan Be-1 (S-Cargo).

How to Complete the Short Circuit Challenge – Step by Step

Step 1 – Get an Eligible Car

If you do not already own a qualifying car, head to the Autoshow and buy the 1984 Honda City E II. It is the cheapest and most widely available option. Alternatively, the 1989 Nissan S-Cargo also works fine.

Step 2 – Find Shimanoyama Circuit on the Map

Open your map and navigate to the Shimanoyama region on the west side of Japan. Look for the circuit icon in the northeastern part of that region. Fast travel to the nearest road you have unlocked and drive to the blue race icon.

Step 3 – Launch the Official Festival Event

Look for the blue icon that says Shimanoyama Circuit nearby and press X when close enough. The event is called Eclectic Domestics.

Do not create a custom race. Do not start an EventLab version. Only the default Festival Event will register for the challenge.

Step 4 – Lower the Difficulty (Optional but Recommended)

An optional step if you want an easier time with this is to go to Event Settings and lower the driver difficulty to Tourist. This makes the AI slow enough that winning is straightforward even in an underpowered 1980s city car.

Step 5 – Select Your 1980s Eclectic Domestic Car

The easiest way to do this is to choose a Car Theme for the race, select the “Decades” option, and choose the 1980s to limit the car selection to those that would qualify for the event. This filters your garage to only show eligible cars so you do not accidentally pick something that will not count.

Step 6 – Complete All Five Laps

While the Short Circuit challenge only requires you to complete a lap of the Shimanoyama Circuit, you will need to complete all five laps of the event for it to register. Once the event is done, proceed through the post-race screens showing the results and winners on the podium and return to the open world.

Do not skip the post-race screens. Let the results fully load before backing out. The challenge notification appears once you return to free roam.

How Long Does the Eclectic Domestics Race Take?

The event is a 5-lap race and can be completed in less than five minutes. These are compact city cars on a short circuit, so laps go by quickly. Even on default difficulty, the race is over fast. Set the difficulty to Tourist if you just want to grab the reward and move on.

Common Mistakes That Stop the Challenge Completing

• Winning a custom race at the circuit: Many players discovered that creating a custom race on the circuit does not complete the challenge. Only the official Festival Event counts.
• Using the wrong 1980s car: Cars like the BMW M1, Lancia Delta, or Audi Quattro are from the 1980s but are not Eclectic Domestics. They will not be allowed into the event.
• Quitting before the results screen: You need to finish all five laps, win, and sit through the results. Exiting early before the challenge registers will waste the run.
• Going to Shimanoyama Sprint instead of Shimanoyama Circuit: The Shimanoyama Circuit is near the Colossus area. The Shimanoyama Sprint is a different event near the stadium area. Make sure you are at the right one.
