Halo Campaign Evolved: The Most Dangerous Game Skulls & Terminal Locations

Halo Campaign Evolved The Most Dangerous Game Skulls & Terminal Locations — find all 3 skulls (Temperamental, Recession, Ghost) and the Penitent Report Terminal in this second bonus mission.

TL;DR

  • The Most Dangerous Game is the second bonus mission in Halo Campaign Evolved.
  • There are 3 skulls: Temperamental, Recession, and Ghost.
  • There is 1 terminal called the Penitent Report.
  • The Temperamental skull is the trickiest — it requires you to break a golden Elite’s shield across three separate encounters.
  • None of these collectibles are missable — use chapter select to replay at any time.
  • Collecting all four unlocks the Brute Loops achievement.

Halo Campaign Evolved The Most Dangerous Game Skulls & Terminal Locations are among the trickiest collectibles in the entire game. This is the second bonus prequel mission, and it takes things up a notch compared to Boarding Action. One skull requires a multi-step process spread across three different moments in the mission, and another needs you to shoot explosive boxes to unlock a hidden room. Miss any step and you will have to replay the mission.

This guide covers all three skulls and the one terminal in the exact order you will encounter them on a natural playthrough. Whether you are on PC via Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation, this guide works across all versions.

About The Most Dangerous Game Mission

The Most Dangerous Game is set inside a Covenant hunting reserve. Master Chief, Sergeant Johnson, and Lieutenant Williams fight through waves of enemies to rescue captured UNSC soldiers. It is a longer, more combat-heavy mission than Boarding Action, and the collectibles reflect that — most of them require you to fight through significant enemy sections before you can reach them.

The mission has three skulls and one terminal, for a total of four collectibles. Grabbing all of them unlocks the Brute Loops achievement. If you already completed the first bonus mission, check out our Boarding Action skulls & terminal locations guide for comparison on how the two missions stack up for collectibles.

All The Most Dangerous Game Skull Locations

There are three skulls in this mission. One of them — Temperamental — is by far the hardest skull in any bonus mission because it plays out across three different moments. The other two are more straightforward once you know where to look.

Skull 1: Temperamental Location

The Temperamental skull is the most complex collectible in The Most Dangerous Game. You cannot just walk up and grab it. Instead, you need to find a golden High-Value Target (HVT) Elite and break its shields across three separate encounters throughout the mission. The HVT Elite cannot be killed — it is invincible — but you need to strip its shields each time it appears. Only after all three encounters are complete and you clear a specific area of enemies does the skull actually spawn.

A ranged weapon works best for this. If you are playing on Legendary, consider lowering the difficulty for this skull since the HVT moves fast and disappears quickly.

HVT Encounter 1 — The Purple Tree Forest

After you rescue Williams and her squad and push outside, you will fight through Brutes in a canyon. Follow the path until you enter an area with purple trees. As soon as you step into this forest region, look to the ledge on your right. The golden HVT Elite is standing there. Shoot it until its shields break. Do not worry about killing it — just strip the shields and move on.

HVT Encounter 2 — The Large Bridge

Continue through the mission until you reach a large bridge. On the far side of the bridge, near a locked door, you will spot the HVT Elite standing to the left of a Wraith tank. You need to rush forward quickly and get into range to shoot its shields down before it disappears. This one is time-sensitive, so push forward as soon as you cross the bridge.

Important: While you are at the bridge area, you should also grab Skull 2 (Recession) before moving on. The location is right here, so it makes sense to handle both at the same time. Details on that are in the next section.

HVT Encounter 3 — Exiting the Prison Block

After you collect the Penitent Report terminal inside the prison block area, continue through the building until you exit back outside. As soon as you leave the building and return to the exterior area, look to the upper-left. The HVT Elite is standing on a building rooftop up there. Shoot its shields down one final time.

Once all three shield breaks are done, clear every enemy in the surrounding area. After the last enemy goes down, the Temperamental skull will spawn inside the central structure of the area. It glows, and you can reach it by jumping to the structure and crouching to pick it up.

What the Temperamental skull does: If you shoot and kill a UNSC ally by mistake, your remaining allies will immediately become hostile toward you. This makes friendly fire a much bigger problem than usual, especially in tight co-op sessions.

Skull 2: Recession Location

The Recession skull is found at the same bridge where you encounter the HVT Elite for the second time. After you deal with the HVT on the bridge, turn around and face the direction you came from. You will see a locked purple room ahead of you, with two pillars flanking either side of the door.

Look up at the top of both pillars. Each one has an explosive box sitting on it. Shoot both boxes to blow them up. Once both are destroyed, the locked door opens. Walk inside and the Recession skull is sitting in the room waiting for you.

What the Recession skull does: Every shot you fire costs two bullets instead of one. This essentially halves your effective ammo count for every weapon, so resource management becomes much more important.

Skull 3: Ghost Location

The Ghost skull comes near the end of the mission. After you deal with a Banshee attack and cross a grav bridge, Johnson and Williams will have a brief conversation before a gate opens into a new outdoor area filled with enemies.

As soon as you step through the gate into this new area, immediately turn around. Do not push into the enemies yet. Look up at the purple pillar that is to the right of the doorway you just came through. The Ghost skull is sitting on top of that pillar.

Getting up there takes a bit of effort. You have two ways to do it:

  • Grenade jump: Throw a grenade at your feet, wait about 2.5 seconds, and jump. The explosion will launch you upward. Timing takes practice.
  • Climb the tree: Head left and find the large tree near the cliff wall. There are indents in the wall you can use to climb up. Near the purple pillar, a branch stretches across the cliff with more wall indents to use. Climb up and jump across to the pillar to grab the skull safely.

The wall-climbing route is much more reliable than the grenade jump, especially on a first attempt.

What the Ghost skull does: Enemies no longer flinch when you shoot them. They will not stagger or stumble from your fire, which makes fights feel more intense since enemies keep pressing forward without any visual reaction to your hits.

The Most Dangerous Game Terminal Location: Penitent Report

There is one terminal in this mission, and it is named Penitent Report. You will find it inside the prison block section of the mission, after you have freed the captured UNSC soldiers.

Follow the main objective through the prison block. After freeing the marines and passing through the armory to restock on weapons, continue until you reach a door that leads into a room with a large upward ramp. Go up the ramp. At the top, you will enter a room that has a series of glass windows running along the left wall.

When you are standing in this windowed room, do not follow the objective marker. Instead, look to the right and go through the door on the right side of the room. The Penitent Report terminal is in there, glowing with a small red light on the right side as you enter.

Interacting with it unlocks a lore data entry called Penitent Report in your collectibles menu. It adds story context about the events of the mission and the broader prequel timeline. After grabbing it, head back to continue with the third HVT encounter for the Temperamental skull.

What Happens When You Collect All Most Dangerous Game Collectibles?

Once you collect all three skulls and interact with the Penitent Report terminal, the Brute Loops achievement unlocks. This is unique to this bonus mission, just like Souvenirs is tied to Boarding Action.

All collected skulls become permanent gameplay modifiers you can toggle on or off from the mission select screen. You can stack multiple skull effects together for extra challenge or to boost your score multiplier on higher difficulties.

If you are going for full completion, you need all 39 collectible skulls and all 13 terminals across the game. The full collectible set unlocks the Collector’s Addition achievement. For a look at everything the game has to offer in terms of unlockables, see the full achievement and trophy list.

Tips for Getting All Collectibles in One Run

The Most Dangerous Game is one of the harder missions for collectibles because of the Temperamental skull’s three-step process. Here are some tips to avoid missing anything.

  • Always look right when entering the purple tree forest. The first HVT encounter is easy to miss if you push forward too fast. Slow down at the entrance and scan the right-side ledge first.
  • Do not leave the bridge area before grabbing Skull 2. The Recession skull and the second HVT encounter are at the same bridge. Handle both before moving on.
  • Get the terminal before the third HVT encounter. The Penitent Report comes just before the final HVT moment in the mission flow. Grabbing the terminal first keeps things in order.
  • Turn around immediately when entering the final area. The Ghost skull is behind you when you step through the gate. If you push into the enemy area first, it is easy to forget to go back.
  • Use the tree to climb for the Ghost skull. The grenade jump method works but is inconsistent. The tree-and-wall-indent route is slower but reliable.
  • Bring a ranged weapon for the HVT encounters. A sniper rifle or battle rifle works great. You need to strip shields at range before the HVT disappears.
