Halo Campaign Evolved This Is My Ship Now is one of the game’s secret challenge achievements. The official description reads: “Eliminate Captain Keyes and trap his six avenging Marines in the Autumn’s observation pen.” It sounds a little strange, but once you know exactly what to do and where to go, the whole thing takes about five minutes. This guide walks you through every step.
TL;DR — This Is My Ship Now at a Glance
- Mission: The Pillar of Autumn — Rally Point Bravo
- Difficulty: Play on Easy. The six Marines are invincible and will shoot you constantly.
- Step 1: After the Keyes cutscene, walk forward to equip your Magnum, then return to the bridge and shoot Captain Keyes until he dies.
- Step 2: Six hostile Marines spawn. They cannot be killed. Your job is to push all six into the observation pen — the small room beneath the cockpit where the two pilots sit.
- Step 3: Use melee attacks to knock Marines forward, then walk into them as they slide. Repeat until all six are in the pen.
- Reward: This Is My Ship Now — Bronze / 10G
- This achievement has no modifier restrictions. Skulls can be active without blocking it.
- A death after killing Keyes may push your checkpoint back. Watch your progress carefully.
What Is This Is My Ship Now?
This Is My Ship Now is one of several secret and challenge-based achievements in Halo Campaign Evolved. Unlike mission completion trophies or collectible trophies, this one requires you to do something the game never tells you to do — turn on Captain Keyes, the UNSC officer who hands you your first weapon.
It is a callback to a long-standing Easter egg from the original Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), where players discovered you could kill Keyes the moment he gave you his pistol. The remake not only brings that Easter egg back but builds a whole trophy around it.
The achievement is worth 10 Gamerscore on Xbox and is a Bronze trophy on PS5 and Steam. It is easy to miss on a normal playthrough because nothing in the mission design points you toward Keyes after the cutscene ends — your objective pulls you in the opposite direction.
The good news is you can go back for it at any time using Rally Point Bravo. You do not need to replay the full mission from scratch.
For the full list of every achievement in the game, see the achievement and trophy list guide. And if you want to grab the collectibles in this mission at the same time, check the Pillar of Autumn Skulls and Terminal locations guide.
Before You Start — Recommended Setup
A small amount of preparation makes this achievement much less frustrating.
- Set difficulty to Easy. The six Marines that spawn after killing Keyes are completely invincible. You cannot kill them. They will constantly fire at you throughout the whole process. On Easy, their damage output is much lower and you can take the hits while you work. On higher difficulties this becomes very punishing, very fast.
- Load Rally Point Bravo. This checkpoint starts you right at the point where you meet Captain Keyes on the bridge. There is no need to play through the early part of the mission. From the main menu, go to Campaign → New Game → Easy → The Pillar of Autumn → Rally Point Bravo.
- Skip this on your first playthrough. Most guides recommend deliberately not attempting this during your initial run. You are likely focused on progressing the story and will not want the distraction. Come back specifically for it later using the checkpoint — it only takes a few minutes.
How to Unlock This Is My Ship Now — Step by Step
Step 1: Get Your Magnum
Load into Rally Point Bravo. You will arrive on the bridge of the Pillar of Autumn just before a cutscene with Captain Keyes and Cortana begins.
Watch or skip the cutscene. Once it ends, walk forward slightly away from the bridge. This short movement triggers Master Chief to pull out his Magnum pistol. Once the weapon is in your hand, stop and turn around.
You need the pistol before returning to Keyes because you start the cutscene unarmed. Without it, you cannot do what comes next.
Step 2: Eliminate Captain Keyes
Head back into the bridge where Captain Keyes is standing. He will be marked as a target on your map once you decide to act against him.
Shoot Captain Keyes until he dies. You can also use melee attacks if you prefer — a few strikes are enough to bring him down. Either works.
The moment Keyes dies, Cortana locks down the ship. Six Marines immediately spawn near the door to the bridge. They are hostile and will begin firing at Master Chief on sight. This is the start of the actual challenge.

Step 3: Find the Observation Pen
The observation pen is the small room at the very front of the bridge, directly beneath the cockpit canopy where the two pilots are seated — one on each side.
You passed through this area during the Keyes cutscene. There is a ladder leading down from the cockpit level into the observation pen below. This is the same spot where the Perspective Skull is hidden, so if you have not grabbed that collectible yet, now is a good time to get both at once.
The observation pen is a confined area. The six Marines need to be pushed on the left or right side of the pilots — not down by the ladder itself.
Step 4: Push All Six Marines Into the Pen
The six invincible Marines will not walk into the observation pen on their own. They will not follow you in, and you cannot shoot them out of the way. Your only option is to physically move them using the game’s physics.
Two methods work here:
- Melee attacks: Hit a Marine with a melee strike and they will slide forward across the floor. This is the fastest method. Spam melee and follow up immediately by walking into them while they are sliding.
- Body blocking: Walk directly into a Marine and push them forward with your own movement. Slower but effective if they are not responding to melee as expected.
The key technique is to melee first and then walk into them immediately after. The melee knocks them into a sliding state where they move more easily. Combine both inputs and you can move one Marine across the bridge in a matter of seconds.
Work on them one at a time. It is common for a few Marines to hang back near the entrance to the bridge while others push into the map room area. Peek around corners carefully to split them up rather than trying to manage all six at once.
Push each one across the bridge and into the observation pen area beside the pilots. Once all six are inside, the trophy and achievement unlocks immediately.

Important: Watch Your Checkpoints
Be careful about deaths during this process. If you die after killing Keyes but before getting all six Marines into the pen, the game may restore your checkpoint to before you killed Keyes. That means you will have to kill him again and start the pushing process from the beginning.
This is why Easy difficulty matters so much. The less damage the Marines deal to you, the less likely you are to die mid-attempt and lose progress. On Easy you can absorb a lot of hits while focused on pushing the Marines into position.
If something goes wrong and the checkpoint resets badly, you can always quit to the menu and reload Rally Point Bravo to start the whole sequence fresh. Nothing is lost permanently.
Grab the Perspective Skull While You Are Here
Since you are already in the observation pen area, it is worth noting that the Perspective Skull is located in the exact same spot. Drop down the ladder between the two pilots and the Skull is at the bottom on the left side.
If you have not collected it yet, grab it now. The Perspective Skull enables third-person camera mode for the entire campaign — one of the most popular new features in the game. Getting it here saves you a return trip later.
For a full breakdown of where all three Skulls and the Terminal are in this mission, see the Pillar of Autumn collectibles guide. And if you want to know how to turn Skulls on once you have them, the how to activate Skulls guide explains the full menu process.
Does This Achievement Have Any Restrictions?
No. This Is My Ship Now has no modifier restrictions. You can have any Skulls active and still earn it. Difficulty modifiers do not block it either — just make sure you are on Easy to keep things manageable.
There are no long-term consequences for killing Keyes within this attempt. Once you earn the trophy and quit out, you can reload the mission normally and continue your playthrough as if nothing happened. The campaign does not register your betrayal.
