How to Break Blue and Red Glowing Crystal Rocks in Pragmata

Stuck on the blue and red glowing crystal rocks in Pragmata? Here is exactly how to break both types, what abilities you need, and when you unlock them.

TL;DR

  • Blue glowing crystals are called Filament Masses — break them with the Lim Eraser
  • Red glowing crystals are called Dead Filament — break them with the Cleanse ability
  • The Lim Eraser is unlocked in Sector 2: Mass Production Array (Lim Recycling Facility)
  • The Cleanse ability is unlocked in Sector 5: Experimental Pragmatics after beating the Luna Digger
  • You cannot break either type on your first pass — this is intentional
  • Both abilities are story unlocks — you cannot miss them
  • You can always go back and clean up blocked areas in Unknown Signal Mode

If you have been exploring Pragmata and keep running into glowing crystal rocks blocking doorways and passages, you are not doing anything wrong. These barriers are a built-in part of the game’s progression system. You simply do not have the right ability yet.

There are two types. Blue ones and red ones. They each need a different ability to remove, and you unlock them at completely different points in the story. Here is everything you need to know.

What Are the Blue Glowing Crystal Rocks in Pragmata?

The blue glowing crystal barriers are officially called Filament Masses. They are made of Lunafilament — the special material that sits at the centre of Pragmata’s story. When Lunafilament printing goes wrong, it creates these misprint blockades that physically seal off rooms and corridors.

You will notice them as early as the very first area, the Solar Power Plant in Sector 1. There is one right near the Generator Entrance that hides a Storage Expander. You can see into the room but you cannot get through. That is intentional. The game wants you to come back later.

Do not try to shoot them or hack your way through. Nothing works until you have the right ability.

How to Break Blue Crystal Rocks — The Lim Eraser

To destroy blue Filament Masses, Diana needs to unlock the Lim Eraser ability.

You get the Lim Eraser automatically as part of the main story in Sector 2: Mass Production Array. Specifically, it is found near the bottom of the Lim Recycling Facility section, which comes toward the end of that area. Diana discovers it on a data chip and absorbs it — yes, she bites it, that is just how she works.

Once you have it, breaking blue crystal rocks is simple:

  • Walk up to the blue barrier
  • Wait for the button prompt to appear on screen
  • Hold L1 (PlayStation) / LT (Xbox) / L (Switch 2) / Left Bumper (PC) when prompted
  • Diana will dissolve the crystals and the path clears

That is all there is to it. You also get a small reward of Lunafilament each time you clear one.

Where to Backtrack After Getting the Lim Eraser

Once you have the Lim Eraser, go back to these spots in Sector 1:

  • Generator Entrance corridor — clear the blue blockade to get a Storage Expander, which boosts Diana’s hacking gauge
  • Power Distribution Center — return through the laser corridor and use the lift on the left to reach more blocked rewards

There are also several blue barriers scattered through Sector 2 itself, so keep your eyes open as you continue forward through Mass Production Array.

What Are the Red Glowing Crystal Rocks in Pragmata?

Red crystal barriers are a different problem entirely. These are called Dead Filament, and the Lim Eraser does nothing against them. You may spot your first red crystals as early as Sector 2, but do not waste time trying to remove them. You will be stuck until much later in the game.

Dead Filament is corrupted Lunafilament — far more unstable than the blue misprint variety. It requires a completely different ability to clear.

How to Break Red Crystal Rocks — The Cleanse Ability

To destroy red Dead Filament, Diana needs to unlock the Cleanse ability.

You get this automatically in Sector 5: Experimental Pragmatics. This is a short section you are guided into after defeating the Luna Digger boss at the end of the Lunum Mines level. The Cleanse ability is unlocked as part of that story sequence — you cannot miss it.

Using the Cleanse ability works differently from the Lim Eraser:

  • Approach the red crystal barrier
  • Hold E (PC) / L1 (PlayStation) / LT (Xbox) / L (Switch 2)
  • You will see a pulse charge up and spread across the ground in front of Hugh
  • Release the button when the pulse is large enough to cover the barrier
  • Diana fires the cleanse blast and the red crystals shatter

The Cleanse ability is also useful in combat. It can cleanse corrupted enemies, which is a nice bonus on top of its barrier-clearing function.

Where to Backtrack After Getting the Cleanse Ability

After unlocking Cleanse, go back through earlier sectors and look for red crystal blockades you passed. A notable example is in the Business District section of Mass Production Array, where you might have already cleared a blue crystal barrier — only to find a red one sitting right behind it. That area has Safe Boxes waiting behind the red blockade.

Use the Moon Orbit Terminal at the Shelter to jump back to any previous sector easily.

Tips for Dealing with Crystal Barriers

  • Never stress about them on your first run. Both abilities come through the story automatically. You will always get them.
  • Scan with Diana regularly. Her scan can highlight blocked paths and items behind barriers, so you know what you are missing.
  • Use the level select. After the story, Unknown Signal Mode lets you replay any sector to clean up blocked collectibles and rewards.
  • Check both sides of blue barriers. Sometimes clearing a blue crystal reveals a red one right behind it — so have your Cleanse ready.
  • Cleanse works on enemies too. Do not forget this mid-combat if you run into corrupted robots.
