The Sentinel is one of the toughest fights in Pragmata. It is fast, relentless, and unlike the mechanical bosses you have faced before, it uses Dead Filament as part of its kit — which blocks your ability to hack until you cleanse it. This fight demands clean dodging, smart timing, and consistent use of Diana’s abilities.

If you go in swinging without understanding the cleanse mechanic, this boss will punish you hard. Once you understand the flow, it becomes much more manageable.

How to Reach the Sentinel

The Sentinel is fought inside the Lunafilament Lab, which is part of the Central Port — Sector 5 in Pragmata. You encounter it during the main story as you make your way to Dr. Higgins’ lab. The fight triggers after you return Diana to the machine following a key story moment. There is no way to miss it.

Before the fight triggers, make sure you have stopped at the Shelter. This is the final stretch of the game and the enemies hit much harder. Top up your healing cartridges, finalize your loadout, and make sure your firmware upgrades are maxed. Do not enter underprepared.

Recommended Preparation

The Sentinel is a close-to-mid range fight. It gets in your face constantly with fast combos. You need solid defensive tools alongside your damage options.

Suit defense: Make sure your suit defense is upgraded to at least Level 12 before this fight. The Sentinel hits hard and its combos land multiple times in quick succession. One bad sequence with low defense will end your run fast. Check our Pragmata best firmware upgrades guide to prioritize correctly.

Healing: Bring at least 4 healing cartridges into this fight. Do not go in light on consumables.

Best weapons: The Photon Laser works well for staggered windows. The Pulse Carbine is strong for sustained pressure when the boss is Open. The Riot Blaster is a solid pick for close-range burst. See our Pragmata best weapons loadout guide and Pragmata all weapons complete list for the full breakdown.

Key hacks: Bring Confuse and Decode — these make a big difference in this fight. The Decoy Generator is also worth using at the start to distract the Sentinel and give you early breathing room. Overheat hacks pair well with the Photon Laser to push the boss into a stagger window. See our Pragmata best mods guide for mod recommendations.

Thrusters: Upgrade Hugh’s thrusters as much as possible before this fight. They give extra invulnerability frames while dodging and let you chain multiple dodges in a row. That matters a lot against this boss’s combo speed.

The official game is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the official Capcom website.

Sentinel Boss Overview

The Sentinel is a large humanoid mech with two enormous energy swords mounted on its arms. It is extremely fast. Faster than anything you have fought before in Pragmata. Its combos chain together quickly and hit multiple times, so getting caught mid-dodge without enough invulnerability frames will get you killed.

The key mechanic that sets this fight apart: the Sentinel is infected with Dead Filament. That means you cannot hack it right away. You need to use Diana’s Cleanse ability to remove the Dead Filament first. Only after cleansing can you hack the boss and deal meaningful damage. You need to cleanse it twice before full hacking access opens up.

The best time to cleanse is right after the Sentinel finishes one of its combo attacks. It has a brief recovery period following each combo. That is your window to move in and cleanse, then immediately hack.

Sentinel Weak Points

Once the Sentinel is cleansed and hacked into the Open state, focus all your damage on it immediately. The hacked Open state is your primary damage window. Keep the boss Open as much as possible. Every second it is not in that state, your damage output drops significantly.

Do not use Strike Hacking Mode in this fight. You want the boss Open as much as possible, and Strike mode makes it too easy to miss that re-open window and lose your damage phase entirely. Stay in standard Hacking Mode throughout.

Phase 1 – Core Attack Patterns

The Sentinel has a mix of close-range combo attacks and ranged options. Learn to read the tells for each one. The fight rewards patience — wait for the end of an attack, then punish during the recovery.

Five-Hit Sword Combo

This is the Sentinel’s main melee attack. It starts with the boss lunging toward you, then performs two quick slashes with its arms. It then charges one blade before lunging and slashing again. It finishes by jumping, slashing downward once in the air, and landing with a slam. Five hits total. Each one deals solid damage. Keep dodging through the whole sequence and wait for the slam landing before moving in to cleanse or hack.

Rapid Missile Volley

The Sentinel fires a quick burst of missiles directly at your position. Stay mobile and keep moving laterally. Do not stand still when the boss goes ranged — these missiles come out fast and track your location.

Cross Slash Projectile

The boss charges up one of its blades and sends a slash-shaped projectile along the ground directly ahead. This has a clear wind-up tell — the blade glows before release. Move sideways when you see it charging. Do not try to dodge backward because the projectile travels far.

Ground AOE Explosion

The Sentinel moves to the centre of the arena and begins charging up. Red warning markers appear on the ground. Move out of every marked area immediately. The explosions hit the affected zones after a short delay. Once all the red zones detonate, the Sentinel returns to its normal attack pattern.

Dead Filament Suction Burst

This is the most dangerous attack in the fight. The Sentinel moves to one side of the arena and starts drawing Dead Filament into itself. This also pulls you toward the boss at the same time. Keep moving away from it and dash repeatedly to fight the pull. Do not let it drag you in. Once it has absorbed enough Dead Filament, it releases a large damaging AOE around its position. If you are still close when the AOE triggers, you will take heavy damage. The moment you see the boss stop moving and start sucking in filament, dash to the far side of the arena and keep running.

Phase 2 – Dead Filament Returns and More Aggression

As the Sentinel’s health drops, it becomes more aggressive and leaves less time between attacks. It also re-applies Dead Filament to itself more frequently. Keep cleansing whenever it comes back. Every time the Dead Filament returns, your hacking is blocked again until you cleanse it off.

The core loop remains the same throughout the fight: cleanse the Dead Filament, hack the boss, shoot during the Open state, dodge the next attack, then repeat. There is no new dramatic phase shift with a cutscene. The difficulty simply increases as the health drops. Stay disciplined and do not let the faster attack pace force you into panic mistakes.

If things get overwhelming, use the Decoy Generator to distract the boss and buy yourself time to reset. The Stasis Net can also create a brief window to cleanse and hack safely when the pressure gets too high.

Final Kill – Deletion Protocol

Once the Sentinel’s health is fully depleted, a scene plays. Press the on-screen button prompt when it appears to trigger Diana’s Deletion Protocol. This ends the fight.

The Deletion Protocol replaces Diana’s Overdrive ability for the rest of the game from this point forward. It still performs the same Overdrive functions — opening nearby enemies, stunning them, and dealing damage — but it now also cleanses Dead Filament and reduces the size of an infected enemy’s hacking grid, making future hacks easier.

What You Get for Beating the Sentinel

Defeating the Sentinel is a story milestone — it automatically counts as part of your main story progression in Central Port. After the fight, continue through the door the Sentinel was guarding. The room immediately after contains a Pure Lunum chest. Do not rush past it.

You also unlock Diana’s Deletion Protocol permanently from this point forward, which makes the remaining fights in the game significantly more manageable.

Quick Tips Summary

  • When the arena glows red, get out of the marked zones immediately.
  • During the Dead Filament Suction attack, dash to the far side of the arena and keep moving.
  • Use Decoy Generator at the start to buy early breathing room.
