    TL;DR

    • Pragmata has 40 mods split into four categories: Attack, Defense, Hacking, and Support
    • You start with one mod slot and can unlock up to five more through the Unit Printer
    • Most mods are hidden in blue chests across the game’s five sectors
    • You can also earn mods from Red Zones, Cabin Bingo Boards, and optional trials
    • Swap your mods at the Shelter before each sector — there is no penalty for changing them
    • The best early mod to invest in is more Mod Slots, so you can stack buffs faster

    What Are Mods in Pragmata?

Mods are passive buffs you equip on Hugh Williams before heading into each sector of the moon. Once equipped, they are always active. No buttons to press. No cooldowns. They just work in the background every time you fight.

You set them up at the Tram Terminal inside the Shelter. Right before you pick your sector, you choose which mods to bring.

The best part? You can swap them every time you return to the Shelter. So if you are struggling with a fight, go back, change your mods, and try a different approach. It makes a real difference.

There are 40 mods in Pragmata total. They are broken into four categories based on what they boost.

All Four Mod Types in Pragmata

    Attack Mods

Attack mods improve how Hugh deals damage. They cover his Attack Units, Primary Units, and Tactical Units. Some give bonus damage to specific enemy types. Others speed up your Attack Unit recharge. A few spread damage to multiple nearby enemies.

There are more Attack mods than any other type in the game. So if you enjoy an aggressive playstyle, you will have a lot to work with here.

Good early picks include anything that boosts your primary weapon damage or makes your Attack Unit more responsive. These help across every sector, no matter what enemies you face.

Want to know where to find all the collectibles in each sector? Check out our guides for Pragmata Solar Power Plant all collectible locations and Pragmata Mass Production Array all collectible locations to make sure you do not miss any.

    Hacking Mods

Hacking mods improve Diana’s hacking abilities. They let her hack at longer distances. They keep enemies in the Open state for longer after a successful hack, giving you more time to fire into them.

These mods are very powerful because the whole combat loop in Pragmata is built around hacking. You hack an enemy to make it Open, then hit it hard with Hugh’s weapons. Anything that extends the Open window is valuable.

If you upgraded Diana’s scan ability, she will call out when there is a mod nearby. That is a huge help for finding Hacking mods hidden in hard-to-reach spots.

You can also find mods in Red Zones. See our full Pragmata Red Keys and Red Zones all locations guide if you want to clear them all for the rewards.

    Defense Mods

Defense mods increase Hugh’s max HP, reduce the damage he takes, or apply damage reduction under specific conditions. They do not sound exciting, but they can absolutely save your run on harder fights.

Some Defense mods reduce damage from a specific enemy type. Others kick in when your HP drops below a certain threshold. Stack a couple of these and you will notice how much longer you survive in crowded fights.

If you are having a hard time staying alive, swap in a Defense mod before your next attempt. It is one of the easiest fixes in the game.

    Support Mods

Support mods cover everything that does not fit neatly into the other three categories. They might boost your Thruster Charge so you can dodge more. They might improve how many repair items you can carry. Some add utility effects that do not directly boost damage or defense but make the whole experience smoother.

Do not sleep on Support mods. They fill gaps in your build and round out whatever you are going for.

How to Get More Mod Slots in Pragmata

You start the game with just one mod slot. That is intentional. The game wants you to think carefully about your first pick.

As you progress and unlock the Shelter, you gain access to the Unit Printer. Under the Attachments section, you will find the Mod Slot upgrade. You can upgrade it up to level 5, and each level adds one extra mod slot. By the end of the game, you can equip up to six mods at once.

The Mod Slot upgrade costs Lim, which is the in-game currency earned from exploration and combat. Spend Lim on this early. More mod slots means more flexibility, and flexibility wins fights.

Where to Find Mods in Pragmata

Mods are hidden throughout the world. Most of them are inside blue chests tucked away in side paths or locked rooms. Here is where to look.

Blue Chests in Sectors The majority of mods sit inside chests off the main path. When you see an odd corridor or a locked door, check it. That is almost always where the mods are hiding. The sector table in the Shelter shows you how many collectibles are in each block, so you always know if you missed something.

Red Zones Completing a Red Zone drops a reward box after you clear the enemies. These boxes often contain mods alongside Pure Lunum. You need a Red Key to enter, so make sure to grab them as you explore. Our Red Keys and Red Zones locations guide covers all of them.

Cabin Bingo Boards Spend Cabin Coins on unlabeled squares to earn random rewards, or hit a set number of bingoes for milestone rewards. Both methods can drop mods.

Optional Trials and Puzzles Some of the game’s optional challenges — including training simulations inside the Cabin — give mods as prizes.

Field Pickups You can also pick up mods directly in the field during a sector run. They take effect right away. You do not have to wait until you get back to the Shelter.

Our Pragmata training data locations guide and Storage Expander locations guide are also helpful for making the most of every sector run.

    Best Mods to Equip Early

When you only have one or two mod slots, you need to think carefully. Here are the best early picks based on playstyle.

For Aggressive Players: Pick an Attack mod that boosts your primary weapon damage or speeds up your Attack Unit. You will use both constantly, so a universal damage buff pays off every fight.

For Hacking-Focused Players: A Hacking mod that extends the enemy Open window is the best early pick. More time to shoot Open enemies means more efficient kills. It is simple math.

For Survivability: If you are taking too many hits, grab a Defense mod that raises your HP cap or reduces incoming damage. Combined with a couple of Thruster Charge upgrades from the Unit Printer, you will dodge and tank your way through most situations.

Support as Your Second Slot: Once you unlock a second mod slot, drop a Support mod in. Anything that helps with healing items or mobility is a strong second pick regardless of your main build.

    Best Mod Builds in Pragmata

    All-Out Attack Build

Focus on Attack mods that boost your primary and attack unit damage. Pair with a Hacking mod to extend the Open window. This build punishes Open enemies hard and is excellent for fast, aggressive runs.

    Hacking Specialist Build

Load up on Hacking mods. Hack at longer range, keep enemies Open longer, and use Diana’s scan upgrade to find every hidden mod. Pair with a Support mod for extra utility. This build makes the hacking grid combat feel incredibly powerful.

    Tank Build

Stack Defense mods to raise your HP and reduce damage taken. Add a Support mod that improves your healing capacity. This build is slower but much more forgiving. Great for players still learning the combat or tackling tougher late-game sectors.

    Balanced Build

Mix one Attack mod, one Hacking mod, one Defense mod, and fill remaining slots with whatever fits your current sector. This flexible build adapts to anything the game throws at you.

Our Pragmata trophy and achievement guide also lists which mod-related tasks you need to complete for 100% completion.

    Tips for Using Mods Effectively

Swap before every sector. The game lets you change mods at the Shelter with no penalty. Use that freedom. If you know a sector has lots of shielded enemies, bring mods that help break through them.

Listen to Diana. She will call out when a mod is nearby during exploration. If you have upgraded her scan ability, she becomes even better at pointing you toward hidden chests.

Watch the sector table. The block-by-block breakdown at the Shelter shows how many items are in each block. If the count says something is there and you have not found it, look harder.

Do the Red Zones. They take effort, but the mod rewards are worth it. Clear every Red Zone you can and you will fill out your build much faster.

How Long Does It Take to Get All Mods?

There are 40 mods in total. Getting all of them requires thorough exploration across all five sectors, clearing Red Zones, and spending Cabin Coins on the Bingo Boards. If you explore every block carefully, most can be found during a normal playthrough.

Check our how long to beat Pragmata guide for a full breakdown of sector length and completion time.

    Final Thoughts

Mods in Pragmata are not just a bonus system. They change how fights feel. The right loadout can turn a frustrating encounter into a clean win. The wrong one makes it much harder than it needs to be.

The most important thing to do early is spend Lim on extra Mod Slots. Everything else follows from there. Once you have three or four slots open, you can start building in a direction that matches how you like to play.

Keep exploring. Diana will help you find the ones you missed. And do not forget to check our full Pragmata review if you want to know what we thought of the overall game.
