Customizing your vehicle in Neverness to Everness is one of the most satisfying parts of the City Tycoon system. Whether you want a faster car for racing or just want your ride to look unique on the streets of Hethereau, the modification system gives you plenty of tools to work with. This guide covers everything you need to know, including where to go, what you can change, how to upgrade performance, and how to keep your vehicle in top condition.

How to Unlock Vehicle Modification in NTE

You can only customize vehicles that you permanently own. Stolen or borrowed vehicles cannot be modified. To own a vehicle, you first need to reach City Tycoon Level 2 and then purchase a car or motorcycle from one of the three dealerships in Hethereau. Our guide on how to get a car in NTE covers the full buying process and lists every available vehicle across all three shops.

Once you own a vehicle, head to a Rampage Players Vehicle Modification Shop to start customizing. These are the only locations where full modification is available. You will not be able to change performance parts or cosmetics anywhere else.

Where to Find Rampage Players Shops in NTE

There are four Rampage Players shops spread across Hethereau. Look for the blue car icon with a cogwheel on your map. This is the symbol for every modification shop in the game. All four shops offer the same services, so use whichever one is closest to where you are in the city.

One of the easiest early-access locations is in the Herland region, near Moomi. Once you have unlocked more of the map, the other three shops become easy to reach as well. For help uncovering more of the city quickly, check our guide on how to unlock all map areas in NTE.

To access the shop, simply walk up to the staff member inside and interact with them. The full modification menu will open from there.

What Can You Customize on Your Vehicle?

The modification system in NTE covers two main areas: performance upgrades and cosmetic changes.

The rules differ depending on what type of vehicle you own:

  • Cars – Both performance upgrades and cosmetic customization are available.
  • Motorcycles – Cosmetic changes only. No performance parts can be equipped.
  • Scooters – Cosmetic changes only. No performance upgrades available.

If you are serious about racing or want to push your car’s top speed further, owning a proper car is essential. Our full NTE racing guide explains how vehicle performance directly affects your race results and which upgrades make the biggest difference.

Performance Upgrades: All 17 Part Categories

NTE has 17 different categories of upgradeable parts for cars. Not every car has access to all 17 categories. High-end sports cars typically have more customization slots than standard or budget vehicles. When you view the parts list in the shop, some entries will have a lock icon. This means a specific in-game requirement must be met before you can buy that part. Highlight the locked part and read the description on the right side of the screen to see exactly what condition you need to fulfill.

The upgrade categories cover the full range of a car’s mechanical systems. The most important ones for racing and day-to-day performance are:

  • Engine – The single most impactful upgrade in the game. Directly increases top speed and acceleration. Always prioritize this above everything else. Even a modest engine upgrade will make a noticeable difference in race performance compared to spending the same Fons on cosmetics or other part categories.
  • Frame – The second most impactful upgrade category after the engine. Improves structural stability, handling, and overall road feel. Upgrading the frame helps your car stay composed through corners and after minor collisions.
  • Handling – Improves steering responsiveness and cornering ability. More useful on technical, winding tracks than on straight-line courses.
  • Braking – Reduces stopping distance and improves braking stability. Useful on courses where late braking into corners is required.
  • Tires – Standard tires are fine for dry conditions. When it rains or snows in NTE, road grip drops significantly. Equipping weather-appropriate tires before wet conditions prevents heavy understeer and loss of acceleration. You can swap tires in the modification menu at any Rampage Players shop or garage before a race.

The remaining categories cover additional mechanical and performance systems. As you progress and earn more Fons, it is worth investing in these after your engine and frame upgrades are maxed out or at a comfortable level. For tips on how to earn Fons efficiently to fund your upgrades, see our guide on how to get Fons fast in NTE.

Cosmetic Customization Options

Beyond performance, the Rampage Players shop also lets you personalize how your vehicle looks. The cosmetic options available are:

Paint and Color

You can change the full color of your vehicle from the shop’s cosmetic menu. A range of paint options are available, and you can preview any color before committing. A small Fons fee is required to apply the change. You can also preview locked paint options before unlocking them, so you know exactly what you are working toward.

Vehicle Skins

Skins are complete visual overhauls for your car’s appearance. Some skins are unlocked through normal progression while others may require specific in-game achievements or event rewards. Check in regularly as you progress since new skins can unlock without explicit notifications.

Vinyls and Decals

You can add graphic overlays to your vehicle’s body panels. These are entirely cosmetic and do not affect any performance stats.

All cosmetic changes are purely visual. They do not impact top speed, handling, durability, or any other performance stat. Cosmetics are about expressing your identity on the road, especially in multiplayer sessions where other players can see your vehicle.

How to Access Modification Quickly

You do not always need to walk to a Rampage Players shop manually. There are two faster ways to access vehicle modification:

  • From the vehicle menu: Select your vehicle from your current vehicle interface, then choose the Modify option. This automatically navigates you to the nearest available Rampage Players location, saving you the time of finding it on the map yourself.
  • Before a race: When selecting a race, you can access emergency repair and some vehicle settings directly from the pre-race screen without going to the shop at all.
Restore Durability
Restore Durability

Vehicle Repairs: All Four Methods

Your car takes durability damage from crashes, scraping walls, and hard collisions. A damaged car suffers massive penalties to both top speed and handling. If durability hits zero, the vehicle breaks down completely and cannot be driven until repaired. If you see your car shooting sparks, that is a warning sign to stop driving aggressively immediately. The vehicle can explode if you keep pushing it, dealing heavy damage to your character and instantly dropping durability to zero.

There are four ways to repair your vehicle in NTE:

  • Visit a Rampage Players shop – The standard repair method. Speak to the staff and select the repair option. Costs Fons.
  • City Tycoon menu – Open City Tycoon and tap the Repair button at the bottom right of the screen. Available from anywhere without going to a physical shop.
  • Before any activity that requires a vehicle – A repair prompt appears before the activity starts. This includes before races, so you should always repair here if durability is low.
  • Mechanic Anomaly Furniture – If you own an apartment, you can place the Mechanic Anomaly Furniture inside it. This lets you repair your vehicle directly from your home without visiting a shop. See our guide on Anomaly Furniture in NTE for more details on how to obtain and place furniture pieces.

Always repair before races. A low-durability car is significantly slower and harder to control, which will cost you races even against opponents you could normally beat easily.

Tip: If you have Jiuyuan on your roster, her Hethereau Life Skill passively reduces the durability damage your vehicle takes from crashes. This is especially useful if you drive aggressively or frequently in chaotic traffic. Check out our Jiuyuan build guide for more on her skills.

How to Change Your License Plate in NTE

Custom license plates are a late-game feature. You must reach City Tycoon Level 20 before this option becomes available. Once you hit that milestone, here is how to access it:

  • Press the city icon next to the map, or
  • Open your phone menu and navigate to the license plate section.

From there you can set a custom plate for your vehicle. It is a small but satisfying personal touch for players who have invested heavily in the City Tycoon system.

How to Invite a Companion to Your Passenger Seat

One of the more charming features in NTE is the ability to bring a character from your roster along for a drive. To do this:

  • Open your Garage in the City Tycoon menu.
  • Press the plus icon next to your car.
  • Choose the character you want as your passenger and press confirm.

The character must have a Bond Level 2 relationship with you before they can ride along. You raise Bond Level by giving characters gifts, which you will find naturally while exploring Hethereau and completing anomaly commissions. For a look at all available characters and how to unlock them, see our guide on every playable character in NTE and how to unlock them.

Switching Between Vehicles

If you own multiple vehicles, you can switch between them without going back to the Garage every time. Press and hold the Key Fob button next to your health bar. A vehicle selection wheel will appear showing all the vehicles you currently have set in your rotation. You can also add or remove vehicles from this rotation through the Important Items category in your Inventory.

For even faster access, open your Radial Menu (Tab on PC), switch to Wheel Mode, and add your Key Fob to the hotbar so you can summon your active vehicle in one press without opening any menus. Cars and motorcycles can only be summoned while standing on the side of an actual road. Scooters are the exception and can be dropped anywhere as long as there is enough open space around you.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Vehicle Customization

  • Always upgrade the engine first. It gives the largest performance improvement per Fon spent and directly affects racing results. Everything else is secondary until your engine is at a solid level.
  • Follow engine upgrades with the frame. The frame is the second-highest impact upgrade. Together, engine and frame upgrades will carry you through most of the racing tiers in the game.
  • Keep a set of wet-weather tires ready. Swap to them at the shop or Garage before any race that takes place in rain or snow. Standard tires on wet roads will cause you to slide out of corners and lose speed unpredictably.
  • Check locked parts regularly as you progress. Unlock conditions vary. Some require reaching a certain City Tycoon level, winning specific races, or completing quests. Highlight any locked part to see exactly what you need to unlock it.
  • Use the Modify shortcut in your vehicle menu. It takes you directly to the nearest Rampage Players shop without having to open the map and navigate manually.
  • Invest in a higher-end car when you can. The Regalia Pendragon at 12 million Fons has a 190–200 km/h base top speed. Even mid-range cars in the 1.5–2.5 million Fon range offer significantly better stats than budget options and respond better to upgrades.
  • Do not neglect durability during normal driving. Repair costs are low. Get into the habit of checking durability and repairing as needed so your car is always ready for races and activities without scrambling to fix it at the last moment.

Vehicle Customization and City Tycoon Progression

The vehicle system ties directly into your overall City Tycoon progression. Owning and upgrading better cars opens up racing opportunities that generate Fons, which in turn push your City Tycoon Level higher. Higher Tycoon levels unlock more Hethereau Hobbies and better rewards from the Hunter Exchange system.

If you want to maximize your Fons output alongside vehicle upgrades, activities like fishing, Swift Travel, and café management all feed into the same economy. Check our fishing guide for NTE and our café ownership guide to build multiple income streams running in parallel with your racing progression.
