How Many Multiplayer Maps Are in Modern Warfare 4?

Modern Warfare 4 has 21 multiplayer maps total at launch (with Shipment added on October 27). Here’s the breakdown:

    • 12 Core 6v6 maps (+ Shipment post-launch)
    • 3 Ground War 32v32 maps
    • 4 Gunfight 2v2 maps
    • Kill Block — a modular map for 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight

Every Core map is original to MW4. Infinity Ward built them from scratch, spanning real-world locations across multiple countries. If you want to know what modes are available to play on these maps, check out our full MW4 multiplayer modes guide.

All Core 6v6 Multiplayer Maps in Modern Warfare 4

These are the main maps you’ll play on in standard multiplayer — TDM, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and more. All 12 are new to MW4.

    Cachette

    cachette

    Location: France

Set on the outskirts of a French rail terminal, Cachette is a converted wine warehouse and mechanic’s garage turned covert armory. Cobblestone streets, shipping containers, and rooftop routes make it a flanker’s paradise. Tight interiors and compact spaces push engagements up close fast.

    Coal

    coal
    coal

Location: Remote Mountain Region (Soviet Era)

Coal puts you inside the ruins of an old Soviet coal processing plant. There’s a fallen smokestack, ore chutes, and processing buildings that feed into a slurry-filled river. The terrain is uneven and the map rewards players who control the high ground along the ore chutes.

    Lithium

    lithium
    lithium

    Location: Rural Mexico (Sierra Mountains)

A lithium processing refinery under active attack in rural Mexico. Industrial buildings and processing equipment create mid-range sightlines throughout. One cool mechanic — the garage doors are interactive. You can press wall buttons to slide them open or closed, and they stay low enough to slide underneath when shut.

    Lotus

    lotus
    lotus

    Location: South Korea

A Korean fishing village caught in the aftermath of an amphibious assault. The market, hostel, boathouse, and residential blocks are all scarred from the fighting. It’s compact with a lot of vertical variety — good for both close fights and short-to-mid engagements around the water.

    Mumbai

    mumbai
    mumbai

    Location: Mumbai, India

A fugitive’s hideout buried inside a dense residential neighborhood in Mumbai. A Victorian market sits at the center, with a rail line cutting through tightly packed blocks around it. The layout rewards aggressive players who know how to use doorways and alleys to stay unpredictable.

    Munition

    munition
    munition

    Location: North Korea

An active North Korean command facility with a large munitions depot at its core. The map has monitoring rooms, a skybridge linking key areas, a crane, water tower, and multiple hangars. There are plenty of lines of sight connecting the interior and exterior areas, so exposure matters.

    Nautical

    nautical
    nautical

    Location: South Korea (At Sea)

At dawn, a South Korean ferry pulls away from a conflict zone with fires burning across the bow and debris covering the deck. Nautical is unique in MW4 — the map is set entirely on the ship. Tight corridors below deck contrast with the open upper sections where you can catch players crossing wide.

    Reactor U92

    reactor u92
    reactor u92

    Location: South Korea

A nuclear reactor complex mid-meltdown. Electrical arcs flash across the concave command room, and the containment pool below is boiling. It’s a chaotic visual environment that matches its hectic gameplay. The command room itself becomes a critical control point in objective modes.

    Rooftops

    rooftops
    rooftops

    Location: New York City, USA

Snow-covered rooftops high above New York at a hotel called “Hotel Times West.” Combat areas include a rooftop greenhouse, HVAC platforms, boiler room, patio, skylights, a pigeon coop, and a laundry room. It’s a unique setting that rewards long-range positioning but still has plenty of close-quarters areas for those who push hard.

    Sentry

    sentry
    sentry

    Location: Russia

A Russian military base in a whiteout snowstorm. Visibility is reduced and the map keeps you moving through a maintenance garage, generator room, and substation. A central command center and damaged barracks define the middle, with the storm conditions adding an extra layer of tension to every outdoor crossing.

    Silkworm

    silkworm
    silkworm

    Location: South Korea

A dense urban shopping district in South Korea. The action pulls toward a convenience store, a gaming den, and a central subway entrance. Perimeter apartments have alley access that wraps around the outside, giving you options to rotate and flank without crossing the open middle constantly.

    Transit 213

    transit 213
    transit 213

    Location: Western India

An overgrown bus depot in western India. The parking lot is packed with old, colorful buses in various states of decay — and they divide the map into tight lanes with hidden routes and ambush corners. Flanking routes exist through a repair shop and gas station on either side. High-rise tenement blocks overlook the center and reward players who can hold an elevated position.

    Shipment (Post-Launch – October 27)

    shipment
    shipment

    Location: Russian Harbor

Shipment is back. This time it’s set on a Russian harbor, hemmed in between the water and the concrete panel buildings around it. The layout is classic Shipment — tiny, chaotic, fast. Great for weapon leveling and camo grinding. It’s the same map you know, just with MW4’s visual and gameplay improvements applied. If you’re trying to level up weapons quickly, check out our guide on MW4 max level and all rewards.

All Ground War Maps in Modern Warfare 4 (32v32)

Ground War is MW4’s large-scale mode — 32 players per side with vehicles, infantry, and multiple objectives. There are three dedicated maps at launch.

    Imjin Farmland

    imjin farmland
    imjin farmland

A rural combat zone on the outskirts of Hajin. Open fields, waterways, scattered farms, and a large-scale mill create a battlefield built for long-range combat and vehicle maneuvering. Roads and rail lines let vehicles move through the space effectively. Coordinated team pushes on key strongholds are essential here.

    Wolves Stadium

    wolves stadium
    wolves stadium

The heart of Hajin — a dense urban environment centered on a large stadium. Multi-story buildings, transit lines, tunnels, rooftops, and hillsides surround the stadium itself. Every route has multiple branching paths. This is the most complex Ground War map in MW4 and rewards teams that communicate well.

    Forest

    forest
    forest

Positioned between Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium, Forest is a wooded hillside map with streets, off-road vehicle paths, and southern train tracks. Key points of interest include a guard tower at the top of the hill, a gas station, and barracks. The tree line makes it easy to hide defenders, which makes crossing open ground dangerous without proper coordination.

All Gunfight 2v2 Maps in Modern Warfare 4

These small, tight maps are built specifically for 2v2 Gunfight — fast, round-based, no respawns. Every map has been designed to force quick decision-making.

    Cafe

    cafe
    cafe

    Location: Paris, France

A scenic courtyard in Paris with a theater, a magazine kiosk, and a fountain that blocks mid sightlines. You can climb on top of the statue in the center for a height advantage, or run the outer perimeter for longer sightlines with less cover. Matches here tend to play around the fountain as a divider.

    Library

    library
    library

A wood-paneled state library packed with tight tactical options. Bookshelves hide enemies, the center rush is a common play, and the upstairs walkway gives views over both flanks. Short map, fast fights — knowledge of the center staircase timing matters a lot.

    NYC

    nyc
    nyc

    Location: New York City, USA

A downtown New York setting on a cold winter night. A large stage dominates the center, surrounded by stands, equipment, and vendor stalls. Ground level play weaves through objects, while higher vantage points are scattered across the map. Works well for both aggressive and passive styles.

    Smuggler

    smuggler
    smuggler

A rail yard with several train cars on the tracks. You can fight in, around, and on top of the cars — ladders give roof access. Warehouses on both ends provide close-range options, while the open areas near the rail car ends are good for mid-range duels. A flexible map that rewards reading your opponent.

Kill Block – The Modular Multiplayer Map

    kill block
    kill block

Kill Block is its own category. It supports 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight and operates as a modular battleground — the layout reconfigures between rounds at the Westbridge Training Facility.

With over 500 possible layout combinations, no two deployments are identical. Some sections draw from iconic MW history locations — Crash, Highrise, and Shoot House all have pieces represented in random placements. You can’t pre-learn this map the traditional way. Instead, you need to read the space quickly each round and adapt.

Which MW4 Maps Are Best for Leveling Up Weapons?

If weapon leveling is the goal, Shipment is always the fastest option. High kill count, constant action, and short TTK engagements make it the top choice for camo grinding. You can read more in our MW4 camo challenges guide.

For slightly more controlled leveling, Silkworm and Transit 213 offer enough close-to-mid range action to keep kill rates high. Munition and Sentry work well for attachments that need more specific engagement distances.

If you’re looking to pick up double XP tokens to speed the process up, our guide on how to get double XP tokens in MW4 walks through all the methods.

Which Maps Are Best for Each Game Mode?

Map selection matters a lot depending on what you’re trying to do. Here’s a quick breakdown by play style and purpose:

    • Domination / Hardpoint: Munition, Lotus, and Silkworm all have well-defined flag zones that create natural push-and-pull gameplay.
    • Search and Destroy / Collateral: Coal, Sentry, and Mumbai reward careful movement and precise decision-making — good fits for round-based modes.
    • Kill Confirmed: Transit 213 and Cachette generate lots of action near the center, making tag collection fast and rewarding.
    • Team Deathmatch: Rooftops and Reactor U92 have clear sightlines that reward consistent gunplay over raw aggression.

Tips for Learning New Maps Fast in MW4

Getting familiar with a new map can be the difference between winning and spending the whole match lost. A few things that actually help:

    • Use the Tac-Map before you play. Infinity Ward published interactive Tac-Maps for every Core 6v6 and Ground War map on the official COD site. Study the routes and spawn sides before jumping in.
    • Watch for interactives. Lithium’s garage doors are the best example — knowing about them and using them gives you movement options other players won’t expect.
    • Learn the three-lane structure. Most Core maps have a left lane, right lane, and a dangerous mid. Knowing which one suits your playstyle cuts your learning time down a lot.
    • Play the Proving Grounds. MW4 has a built-in movement training course. Finishing it before you touch multiplayer actually helps — especially on maps like Rooftops where movement matters a lot.
