TL;DR
- This is part of the Ambition in the Ruins questline under Hernand Commissions
- You need to talk to six villagers around Calphade Castle first
- The correct answer order is: 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2
- The culprit is Helmut the Blacksmith
- After the deduction, head south, catch Helmut, and bring him to the guards
The Deduction and Revelation of the Culprit quest in Crimson Desert is one of those missions that trips people up. Not because the combat is hard. Not because of a tricky puzzle. It trips you up because you had to actually pay attention to what six different NPCs said during the Search for Leads quest before this one.
If you weren’t taking notes — and honestly, who was — this guide has you covered. Here are all the answers and a step-by-step walkthrough.

How to Unlock Deduction and Revelation of the Culprit
This quest does not appear out of nowhere. You need to complete a chain first.
You can only start Ambition in the Ruins after reaching Chapter 6 and liberating the Calphadean Territory. Once that’s done, look for a Calphadean Defender near the castle gates in Calphade. Speak with him to get the Investigative Log and kick off the questline.
The quest chain goes like this:
Stolen Supplies → Search for Leads → Deduction and Revelation of the Culprit
You must finish Search for Leads before the Deduction quest unlocks.
Search for Leads — Who to Talk To
During Search for Leads, you visit six people around Calphade Castle. Each gives you a snippet of information about the missing supplies situation. Here is who you need to find and what matters from each conversation.
Robert —

The Overseer. He runs the construction camp north of Calphade Castle. He’s the one who reported the supplies going missing. He tells you the quartermaster and merchant both acted suspicious.
Adeline —

She mentions the workers and the blacksmith have been working until dawn. Unusual hours. That detail matters later.
Malluk —

He talks about Caspar and makes it clear Caspar didn’t look happy at all. There’s some tension there.
Helmut —

The blacksmith himself. He talks about taking pride in his craft. Keep that in mind.
Caspar —

Caspar seems troubled. He also brings up iron coming from an unknown source. That’s a red flag.
Ella —

She comments that the supplies the workers received were in poor condition.
Once you’ve spoken to all six, head to the Calphadean Defender at the foot of the castle.
All Deduction and Revelation of the Culprit Answers
This is the part most players need help with. The Calphadean Defender asks you six questions. For each one, you pick between two options. Pick wrong and you may have to reset.
Here are the correct answers in order:
Question 1 → The quartermaster and the merchant are suspicious.
Question 2 → The workers and the blacksmith are working till dawn.
Question 3 → Didn’t look too happy with Caspar.
Question 4 → The lad seemed much troubled, with all the iron coming from who knows where.
Question 5 → The supplies they received were in poor condition.
Question 6 → He seems to take pride in the things he crafts.
Short answer version if you need it fast: 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2
Who Is the Culprit?
The culprit is Helmut the Blacksmith.
Once you answer the questions correctly, the Calphadean Defender pieces it together. Helmut was the one stealing the supplies. The iron coming from unknown sources, the odd working hours, the pride in his craft — it all points back to him.
How to Catch Helmut
After the deduction, you get a new objective. Travel south to the Calphade Siege Armory. Helmut is at the very back, caught up in some shady dealings.
When you arrive, he tries to run. A short cutscene plays where Kliff trips him. After that, you tie him up, pick him up, and carry him back to Calphade. You can mount your horse while carrying him to move faster.
Hand Helmut over to Robert and the soldiers to close the case.

Tips Before You Start
A couple of things worth knowing before you jump in:
The Calphadean Defender will not let you begin the deduction until the game confirms you have spoken to all six villagers. If the option is not appearing, double-check you talked to everyone during Search for Leads.
You do not need to remember the exact dialogue word for word. The six clues map directly to the six questions. Just use the answer order above if you want to skip the guesswork.
This is a normal difficulty faction quest. The estimated time to complete everything is around 8 to 12 minutes once you know what to do.
