Crimson Desert Haldin Bounty Guide – How to Find and Capture Him

TL;DR

  • Haldin pays 30 silver — the highest bounty reward in the Hernand region
  • His poster will not appear until you liberate Vilkom Outpost from the Wolf Tracker bandits first
  • Vilkom Outpost is northeast of Hernand Town, near the Hills of No Return
  • After liberating it, look for his poster on lamp poles near the Goldleaf Trading Post or Bloomwood Ranch road
  • Examine the poster, then return to the now-liberated outpost and find the suspicious dwarf disguised as a soldier
  • Haldin will flee when spotted — chase and tackle him, hit him a few times, then use the tie-up prompt
  • If he is not inside the camp, check just outside the walls — he sometimes roams there
  • Deliver him alive to Hernand Jail for the full 30 silver and Contribution Points
  • Killing him cuts your reward in half — always capture alive

The Haldin Bounty is one of the most interesting contracts in Crimson Desert. It pays out more silver than any other bounty in the Hernand region, but it also has a multi-step unlock requirement that catches most players completely off guard. You can spend a long time hunting around Hernand for his poster and find nothing — because the poster simply does not exist until you complete a specific world event first.

This guide walks through every step in order, from unlocking the bounty to collecting the reward. For more help across the game, visit our full Crimson Desert guide hub.

How the Bounty System Works in Crimson Desert

Bounties become available starting in Chapter 2. Once you reach that point, wanted posters begin appearing on wooden lamp posts and notice boards scattered around Hernand City. When you pick up and examine a poster, the target’s last known location gets marked on your map and the quest becomes trackable in your Journal.

Capturing a bounty always follows the same basic process: find the target, tackle them, land a few hits until a tie-up prompt appears, and then carry them back to the jail. Delivering a target alive gives the full reward. Killing them during the capture process cuts your silver payout in half — so always prioritise the tie-up.

Haldin follows this same mechanic, but with an extra prerequisite layer that makes him unique among the nine Hernand bounties. See our Fabrizio bounty guide, Warren Outlaw bounty guide, and Bianca bounty guide for other Hernand contracts you can run alongside Haldin.

Step 1 – Liberate Vilkom Outpost First

This is the step that trips up almost everyone. Haldin’s bounty poster does not exist in the game world until the Vilkom Outpost has been fully cleared of its Wolf Tracker bandit occupants. As long as those bandits hold the outpost, the local Hernand authorities have no jurisdiction there, and no poster appears anywhere in the city.

Where is Vilkom Outpost? It sits northeast of Hernand Town, near the Hills of No Return. On your map, look north of Hook Rapids and Rocca’s Hill. The outpost is clearly marked in that area. Two fast travel points sit near the outpost, so activate at least one before you engage the camp.

How to clear it efficiently. The outpost is not easy to take head-on early in the game. It is heavily guarded by tough berserk melee enemies and multiple rifle shooters who can keep you pinned from a distance. A frontal charge at low gear level is a bad idea.

The smarter approach is to lure small groups out of the camp one at a time and deal with them separately in open ground where you have room to dodge and counter. You can also let roaming Hernand guard patrols help engage the camp when they pass by — they will draw aggro from some bandits, letting you pick off stragglers and collect extra loot in the process.

Watch out for any rifleman hiding in a tower. A single surviving enemy can prevent the Liberation notification from triggering, which blocks the poster from spawning. Sweep the entire outpost before leaving. If the “Outpost Liberated” notification does not appear, check every corner for a survivor you may have missed.

The road to Vilkom Outpost also passes through Karin Quarry, which is crawling with Bleed Bandits. There is no clean route around them, so expect a fight getting there. There is also an optional boss inside Karin Quarry worth defeating for loot if you are up for it.

Step 2 – Find Haldin’s Bounty Poster

Once the outpost is liberated, head back toward Hernand City and look for the bounty poster. The poster does not appear in a fixed location — it spawns on a wooden lamp pole somewhere along the road between the Goldleaf Trading Post and Bloomwood Ranch, roughly above the Nas River on the map.

The most commonly reported spawn point is on a post just outside the Goldleaf Trading Post. Walk that road slowly and scan the lamp posts as you go. The poster is a physical object nailed to the pole — look for the notice fluttering there.

If you cannot find it on the road at all, check the notice board in Hernand City itself. The notice board is the reliable fallback when the road spawns come up empty.

Once you find the poster, examine it on the spot or pick it up and read it from your inventory. Either way activates the bounty, adds it to your Journal as a trackable quest, and places a map marker at the centre of Vilkom Outpost.

Step 3 – Return to Vilkom Outpost and Find Haldin

Fast travel back to the Vilkom Outpost. It is now held by friendly Hernand soldiers instead of Wolf Trackers. Walk inside and start looking for a suspicious figure among the troops.

Haldin is a dwarf — noticeably shorter than every other soldier in the camp. He is disguised in a stolen Hernand uniform and trying very hard to look like he belongs there. Look for the shortest soldier near crates or tucked into a corner attempting to appear busy.

How to spot him quickly. Use your Focus or Sense ability (L3+R3 on controller, V on PC) as you move through the outpost. It highlights interactable NPCs in yellow, which makes Haldin stand out clearly from the static guard NPCs around him.

What if you cannot find him inside. Haldin sometimes slips out of the camp unnoticed and wanders just outside the outpost walls. If your Journal marker points to the centre of the outpost but nobody is there, widen your search to the immediate area outside the perimeter. Check your minimap for his highlighted icon — it appears when you are close enough to his true location.

If you accidentally killed Haldin during the outpost liberation fight before realising he was the target, he will respawn after roughly three in-game days. Rest at a campfire to pass time and then return to the outpost.

Step 4 – Capture Haldin Alive

When you get close enough to Haldin, his cover breaks. He will drop whatever he is carrying, turn, and run. That fleeing animation is your visual cue — he will also appear highlighted on your minimap the moment he bolts.

Do not draw your weapon before you close the distance. If Haldin sees you approaching with a weapon out, he may sprint out of the outpost and into the wilderness before you can catch him, making the capture much messier.

Here is how to capture him cleanly:

Option A – Chase and tackle. Sprint after him and press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to tackle him to the ground. Once he is down, land a few hits. After a short beat, the tie-up prompt will appear. Use it to bind him.

Option B – Backstab shortcut. If you can approach Haldin from behind without being spotted, you can skip the chase entirely. A direct back approach while undetected triggers the tie-up option immediately, without needing to hit him at all. This is the cleanest capture method if you can pull it off.

Once Haldin is tied up and on the ground, he cannot escape. Take your time to clear any remaining enemies in the outpost before you deal with transport. Do not accidentally kill him during that cleanup — a stray area attack could end his questline early and cut your reward.

Do not put your weapon away too aggressively near Haldin while he is tied on the ground. If anything causes him to take lethal damage at this point, the bounty ends as a kill and the reward drops.

Step 5 – Deliver Haldin to Hernand Jail

With Haldin tied up, carry him or load him onto your horse and ride back to Hernand. The jail is located in north Hernand City. This is a straightforward ride compared to some of the longer bounty deliveries in the region.

Keep an eye on the road as you travel. Riding through hostile enemy patrols while carrying a prisoner can cause chaos. Stick to the main road and avoid the bandit-heavy paths if possible. Our horse guide has tips on mount stamina and speed that help on longer prisoner deliveries.

When you arrive at the jail, hand Haldin over to the guards. Your reward is 30 silver coins plus Contribution Points toward your Hernand reputation. This is the highest single bounty payout in the region, making all the prep work fully worth it.

Reward Breakdown

Full reward (alive): 30 silver + Contribution Points Partial reward (killed): 15 silver — exactly half

The Contribution Points you earn from bounties are worth noting too. Contribution is the reputation currency used to unlock armor sets, gear, and services tied to the Hernand faction. Every bounty you turn in builds this meter alongside the silver reward. See our how to use Contribution Points guide for a breakdown on what you can unlock with them.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Searching for the poster before liberating the outpost. This wastes a lot of time. The poster literally does not exist in the world until the Wolf Trackers are gone. Do the liberation first, every time.

Not killing every single Wolf Tracker. One surviving enemy in a tower or behind a building can block the Liberation event from firing. Do a full sweep before leaving.

Drawing your weapon while approaching Haldin. He has a wide detection radius. Approach with your weapon sheathed and use the backstab route whenever possible for a clean, instant tie-up.

Killing him by accident during a cleanup fight. Once Haldin is tied up, be careful with area attacks near him while clearing the remaining camp enemies. A stray attack can end the bounty at half reward.

Not checking outside the outpost walls. Haldin sometimes wanders out of camp. If the marker points inside but nobody is there, look just outside the perimeter and watch your minimap for his icon.
