Hardwood is a higher-tier version of regular Wood. Think of it as the upgrade you need once normal Wood stops being enough. It starts showing up in crafting recipes from around Technology level 40 onwards. Things like guns, Pal Spheres, and base upgrades all start needing it.
The catch is that not every tree drops it. You have to go to specific zones and chop the right trees. If you are on a starter island swinging your axe at every tree and getting nothing, that is why. You are in the wrong area.

How To Get Hardwood in Palworld – All Methods
There are four ways to get Hardwood. Chopping trees is the most common, but the other methods are worth knowing depending on where you are in the game.
1. Chop Trees in the Right Biomes
This is the main method. You need to travel to one of three confirmed Hardwood zones and chop the special trees there. Each zone has a different tree type, but they all drop Hardwood when cut with an axe.
Regular trees near the starting area will never drop Hardwood. You need to go to the zones listed below.
2. Build a Logging Site II
Once you hit Technology level 43, you can unlock the Logging Site II in the Ancient Technology tree. This lets you produce Hardwood passively at your base without having to travel anywhere. It costs 3 Ancient Technology Points and requires 100 Hardwood to build, so you will need to chop some first before you can automate it.
Assign a Pal with a high Lumbering work suitability to the Logging Site II and it will keep churning out Hardwood while you are off doing other things. This is the best long-term setup.
3. Buy From a Wandering Merchant
You can buy Hardwood from the Wandering Merchant at the Small Settlement for 100 Gold each. This is useful if you are short on a specific amount and do not want to make a whole trip. But it is expensive for bulk farming, so use it as a backup only.
4. Use the Ancient Material Synthesizer
At end game, you can assign a Pal with a Lumbering work suitability of level 6 or higher to the Ancient Material Synthesizer. This is the most efficient late-game method but requires a strong Pal and the right setup. Most players will not need this until they are well into the end game content.
Where To Find Hardwood in Palworld – All Locations
There are three confirmed locations where trees drop Hardwood. Here is a breakdown of each one.
Twilight Dunes – Best Early Access Location
This is the easiest place to reach early. It is the sandy desert area northeast of the starting island, recognisable by the large stone Anubis statue. The fast travel point you want is called Anubis Dunes.
Look for the spiky, cactus-like trees in this zone. They look different from normal trees and are easy to spot. Chop them down and you will get Hardwood. The supply here is more limited compared to other zones, but it is the right first stop if you are not yet ready for the higher-level areas.

Sakurajima Island – Best Overall Farming Spot
This is the top farming location for most players. Sakurajima is the cherry blossom island to the northwest of the starting area. It is the same island where Moonflower Tower sits, which is a level 55 challenge, so be prepared for tough enemies.
The trees here are Sakura trees with pink flowers and reddish trunks. They are very easy to spot and there are hundreds of them. Fast travel to the Secluded Cemetery waypoint, then jump down into the area. You will see the Sakura trees right away. Chop them and collect the Hardwood.
The Moonflower Tower coordinates are around -598, 208 on the in-game map if you need a reference point. The Dancing Sakura Shrine area is another good spot on the same island.
If you set up a base here, you can have your worker Pals chop Hardwood passively while you explore. This is one of the best base spots in the game for mid-game players.
Feybreak Island – Late Game Option
Feybreak is the large island to the southwest of Palpagos. It has trees with red leaves and rough bark that drop Hardwood when chopped. The trees grow close together here so you can gather a lot quickly.
The problem is that this island has very high-level Pals and enemies. It is also an anti-air zone, which means flying Pals will be shot down by turrets. You can reach Feybreak by fast travelling to Fisherman’s Point and swimming across with a suitable Pal.
Save Feybreak for when you are well into the mid or late game. It is excellent for bulk farming once you are strong enough to handle it.
What Trees Drop Hardwood in Palworld
Not every tree gives Hardwood. Here is how to identify the right ones in each zone.
- Sakurajima: Pink cherry blossom Sakura trees with reddish trunks. Very easy to recognise by the flowers.
