Can You Steal in NTE Neverness to Everness?

Yes, you absolutely can. Neverness to Everness has a full shoplifting system built into the game. It is not just a gimmick either. Stealing is one of the smartest ways to save Fons, especially early on when you are trying to furnish your apartment and buy comfort items without spending a fortune.

The city of Hethereau is expensive. Many items that are useful for increasing house comfort and progression can cost thousands of Fons each at retail. Stealing lets you skip that cost entirely — as long as you know how the system works.

This guide covers everything: how to start stealing, how to win the minigame, which stores are worth hitting, tips to avoid getting caught, and a useful trick that makes the whole process nearly risk-free.

How to Steal in NTE — Step by Step

Step 1 — Find a Store With Stealable Items

Not everything in every store can be stolen. Walk around the shelves and look for items displayed in a yellow box with a red outline. If there is no red outline, you cannot steal that item no matter what you do.

If you are not sure what an item does before stealing it, talk to the store clerk first to check its price and details. At cake shops and toy shops, items come in packaging so you will not know exactly what you got until after you have taken it.

Step 2 — Pick Up the Item to Start the Minigame

Walk up to a stealable item and interact with it. The moment you pick it up, a dialog minigame begins. This is where the stealing actually happens. You need to keep pressing options without triggering the clerk’s suspicion until you get the chance to take the item.

Step 3 — Choose Calm Options During the Minigame

During the minigame, you are presented with a series of dialog choices that reflect your body language and behavior. The key rule is simple: calm and confident options reduce suspicion, while nervous or hesitant options attract the clerk’s attention.

Pick the most relaxed answer available each time. If you keep choosing calm options, the clerk stays distracted and you will eventually see an option to Pick Up or Take the item. Select that to complete the steal.

Sometimes no good calm option appears. If that happens, choose an option like “Bump into shelves accidentally” or “Drop it accidentally” — these cause the clerk to look at you briefly but reset the situation so you can try again. You can also just put the item back and retry.

Step 4 — Leave the Store Without Getting Spotted

After successfully grabbing the item, a horned emoji symbol will appear over your head. This means you have the stolen item. If the clerk sees you while this symbol is showing, they will call you out and force you to pay.

Do not immediately run for the exit, especially if you are far from the door. Hide behind a shelf or in the back of the store first. Watch the clerk — if they are looking at their phone, they cannot spot you even if you are standing right in front of them. Use that window to walk out calmly.

Items near the store exit are always easier to steal because you have less distance to cover once you have the item. Keep that in mind when choosing what to take.

What Happens If You Get Caught Stealing in NTE?

If the store clerk catches you, they will stop you and force you to pay for the item. That is the only consequence. Getting caught shoplifting in stores does not raise your Warrant Level and does not call in any police. You can try again as many times as you want with no lasting punishment.

If you select any option to put the item back, the stealing attempt is cancelled. The item stays on the shelf and you can go again immediately.

The Teleport Trick — Steal Without Paying Anything

Here is a trick that makes stealing almost completely risk-free. It works by getting caught on purpose.

    1. Pick up a stealable item and let the clerk catch you.
    2. When the clerk forces you to pay, an item card will appear on the right side of the screen.
    3. Scroll to the bottom of that item card.
    4. Select any DSD Pop Toys Shop branch listed there.
    5. The game sends you to the map screen — from there, you can fast travel anywhere in Hethereau.
    6. The stolen item stays in your inventory even though you never paid for it.

This appears to be an oversight by the developers. The stolen item remains yours and you escape the payment entirely. Even if this eventually gets patched, opening the map immediately after a theft while the payment screen is up achieves the same result.

Best Stores to Steal From in NTE

DSD Pop Toy Shops — Best for Comfort Items

DSD is the top priority for any serious stealing run. These shops carry collectible figures that can each be worth up to 10,000 Fons at retail. Each figure also contributes 90 Comfort points to your apartment. Stealing 23 of these dramatic-tier figures like the Asahi Inori figure is enough to reach the 2,000 Comfort cap for free — saving you roughly 1,000,000 Fons compared to buying everything legitimately.

DSD locations appear on the city map as red shop markers. Always hit these first on your stealing runs.

2-Four Convenience Store — Best for Battle Items

The 2-Four Convenience Store is the easiest place to start for new players trying shoplifting for the first time. Items here include HP recovery consumables and Crit boosts — all useful in combat. The items are cheap, there are multiple store locations, and the risk of getting caught is low.

Bamboo Pharmacy — Pricier Healing Items

The Bamboo Pharmacy stocks healing items that are more potent than what you find at the convenience store, but they are also more expensive. Worth visiting once you are comfortable with the minigame system. Check our guide on how to heal in NTE to understand which items matter most.

    Alice’s Baker — Recovery Items

Alice’s Baker is small with no shelves around it. Every item here is a recovery item. Because the store is so compact, there is not much room to hide. The best strategy is to grab what you want and run for the door immediately.

Tofuan — Not Worth Stealing From

Tofuan sells ingredients like coffee beans and milk that are used in The Cafe by Origen. It is not recommended to steal here. The cafe needs large quantities of these ingredients, so it is far easier and more practical to just buy them in bulk.

    When Do Stolen Items Respawn?

Store items that you have stolen will respawn. Based on player reports, the respawn happens once per week on Mondays during the weekly server reset. This makes stealing a sustainable weekly routine — you can run the same DSD route every reset and keep collecting high-value figures for free.

For a full breakdown of what resets weekly and when, see our NTE daily and server reset time guide.

Stealing Tips to Avoid Getting Caught

    • Always choose calm dialog options. Nervous choices increase the clerk’s suspicion and shorten your window to take the item.
    • Watch the clerk’s phone. When the clerk is looking at their phone, they cannot catch you — even if you are standing right in front of them.
    • Hide before you run. After stealing, duck behind a shelf rather than bolting for the door immediately.
    • Grab items near the exit first. The closer you are to the door when the steal completes, the easier your escape.
    • Do not panic if no good option appears. Use a distraction option like “Drop it accidentally” to reset and try again.
    • Use the teleport trick if all else fails — getting caught does not cost your Warrant Level and the teleport trick means you do not even have to pay.

Does Stealing Affect Your Wanted Level in NTE?

No. Shoplifting from stores does not affect your Warrant Level at all. As long as the clerk does not catch you mid-steal, the offense does not register in the crime system. Even if you do get caught, only the store clerk reacts — no police are called and your Warrant stays the same.

Warrant Level is only raised by committing crimes in the open world. If you ever do find yourself with a high Warrant Level from other activities, our guide to lowering your Wanted Level in NTE covers all the ways to clear it fast.

Why Stealing Is Worth Doing in NTE

The main reason to steal in NTE is simple: Fons are hard to come by early in the game and there is a lot to spend them on. Cars, houses, cafe upgrades, and gacha pulls all compete for the same budget.

By stealing DSD figures weekly, you can hit the 2,000 Comfort cap on your apartment without spending a single Fon on furniture. That frees up your Fons for bigger purchases. Each dramatic-tier figure contributes 90 Comfort — steal enough of them and you will unlock daily Fons rewards and bond affection points passively every day.
