- Safe code is 8410 — this never changes

- You do not need to finish the mission for it to count
What Are the Dog Tags in Modern Warfare 4?
The Dog Tags in MW4 belong to Gaz — a fan-favourite character from the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Finding them in the Escape mission is a small tribute to him. It is an optional collectible. It won’t change the story or give you an in-game reward or cosmetic. But it does unlock the Never Forgotten Silver Trophy on PlayStation or a 50G Achievement on Xbox.
If you’re going for full completion, this one is worth grabbing. The mission itself is linear, and once you know where to look, the whole thing takes under two minutes.
You can pick up the game on Steam, PlayStation Store, or Xbox.
Modern Warfare 4 Dog Tags Location – Mission 13: Escape
The Escape mission is the 13th chapter of the MW4 campaign. It is set inside a North Korean detention center. You step into the boots of Captain Price, who is being held as a prisoner. Your goal is to break out — and somewhere along the way, Gaz’s Dog Tags are sitting locked in a wall safe.
There are also two notes to find in this mission. The second note is the one that gives you the safe code. So you need both — the note first, then the safe.

How to Get the Dog Tags Safe Code in Modern Warfare 4
The safe code is not something you have to guess. The game actually hides a note that reveals it. Here’s how to find it.
Step 1 – Find Note 1 Near Cell 40
Early in the mission, once you pass Cell 40, turn into the nearby office. There’s a note on the desk. This first note is a Confiscation Protocol Reminder. It tells you that prisoners’ belongings are locked in a safe and that the security office has the new code. It doesn’t give the code itself — but it points you in the right direction.

Step 2 – Find the Updated Code Note in the Security Office
Keep progressing through the mission until you reach a room with a lone soldier. This is the guard room. There’s a lit help window in this area.
Here’s the key move — go prone and wait. The guard will receive a phone call and leave the room on his own. Don’t rush it. Once he’s gone, head into the office at the back of the room.
On the desk, you’ll find the Updated Code note. This is the second note in Escape. It gives you the safe code directly: 8410.

This code is fixed. It does not change between playthroughs. So even if you missed the note, now you know — the safe code in Escape is 8410.

Modern Warfare 4 Safe Location in Escape (Dog Tags)
Now for the safe itself. You won’t find it right away after picking up the note. The safe appears later — after you’ve fought through the barracks.
Step 3 – Clear the Barracks
Continue following the mission objectives. There’s a fight in the barracks area. Clear it out with Ghost. Once the barracks fight is done, you’ll move into a hallway.
Step 4 – Enter the First Door on the Right
As soon as you exit the barracks into the hallway, look to your right. There’s a door. Go through it. Inside this room, you’ll find the wall safe mounted against the internal wall.
Step 5 – Enter Code 8410 and Grab Gaz’s Dog Tags
Walk up to the wall safe and enter 8410 on the keypad. The safe opens. Inside are Gaz’s Dog Tags.
Pick them up. The Never Forgotten trophy or achievement unlocks the moment they’re in your hands. You don’t have to finish the Escape mission for it to register — it counts right there.
What is the Never Forgotten Trophy in Modern Warfare 4?
Never Forgotten is a Silver Trophy on PS5 and worth 50 Gamerscore on Xbox. The unlock condition is simple: Recover the Dog Tags in Escape.
It is part of the full MW4 campaign trophy list. If you’re going for 100% completion, this is one of the easier ones to get — you just need to know about it before you breeze past the safe.
Check the full list of every available trophy and achievement here: COD Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Trophy Achievement List.
Also note — there is no Platinum Trophy in Modern Warfare 4. The game runs through Call of Duty HQ, not as a standalone app on PS5, so there’s no Plat to chase. Just 18 total trophies.
Can You Replay Escape to Get the Dog Tags?
Yes. If you miss the Dog Tags on your first run, you can use mission select and replay Escape any time. You don’t need to start the campaign over. Just replay Mission 13, grab the Updated Code note, find the safe after the barracks, and enter 8410. The Never Forgotten trophy will still unlock.
There’s no difficulty requirement either — you can do this on Recruit if you want. Any difficulty works. For more on difficulties, see COD Modern Warfare 4 All Campaign Difficulties.
Modern Warfare 4 Escape Mission – Other Collectibles
Besides the Dog Tags, Escape has two notes total. Here’s a quick summary:
- Note 1 (Confiscation Protocol Reminder) – On the desk in the office past Cell 40. Hints at the security office having the new code.
- Note 2 (Updated Code) – In the guard room office. Gives you safe code 8410 directly.
- Dog Tags (Gaz) – Inside the wall safe after the barracks. Code: 8410. Awards Never Forgotten trophy.
Completing Escape also gives you a Double Weapon XP Token as a campaign reward. For more on what you can earn, check: COD Modern Warfare 4 All Campaign Rewards.
