But it’s also home to some of the best key rooms in the game — and the Commandant Office is one of them. What Is the Commandant Office Key in MW4 DMZ?

The Commandant Office Key is an Epic-rarity key in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. Its item card reads: “B5 – Unlocks the commandant’s office on the second floor of Admin Complex No. 2 within Chang-san Air Base.”

The grid reference B5 puts it firmly inside North Korean territory — specifically at the Chang-san Air Base POI, which carries a CRITICAL threat rating at the outer base level. Admin Complex No. 2 pushes that rating to EXTREME. This is not a casual run. You need solid armor, a full loadout, and ideally a squad before heading in.

Where to Find the Commandant Office Key

The Commandant Office Key drops as random field loot. There is no guaranteed mission or boss kill that hands it to you directly — you’ll need to find it organically while looting across Hajin. The best places to check are:

Duffel bags and military bags at high-tier POIs like the 14th Political Prison, The Grid, and Deadtown
Military Lockers inside armory-type rooms and compounds
Loot caches found by completing side ops and contracts during a deployment
One community report notes a Reactor 02 Control Room key came from a duffel inside the Commandant Office itself — meaning the room can also produce additional key drops once unlocked

Keep the key in your hotbar slot, not your backpack. If you fail an extraction, hotbar items are saved but backpack items are permanently lost. An Epic key is not something you want to lose to a failed exfil.

Where to Use the Commandant Office Key — Exact Location

The Commandant Office Key is used on the second floor of Admin Complex No. 2, inside Chang-san Air Base at grid square B5.

Getting Into Chang-san Air Base

The main perimeter of Chang-san Air Base is walled, but you don’t need to fight your way through the front gate. The south side of the base has holes in the perimeter wall — find one and slip through. This is the fastest and least exposed route to Admin Complex No. 2 without triggering the full base alert immediately.

Finding Admin Complex No. 2

Admin Complex No. 2 is a multi-floor building inside the base compound. It’s the same building that plays a key role in Operation Iron Citadel — the Server Room for upgrading the Air Base Access Card is on an upper floor here. The building has a distinct appearance with corridors lined with red curtains and flags — once you’re inside, these decorations are your visual cue that you’re in the right area.

Finding the Commandant Office Door

Head upstairs to the second floor. At the top of the stairs, turn left, then take the first door on the left. This room is labeled “Conference Room” but it’s the Commandant’s Office — the in-game door prompt will confirm it once you’re close enough.

Without the key: The door shows “COMMANDANT OFFICE – LOCKED”
With the key in inventory: The prompt changes to “COMMANDANT OFFICE – UNLOCK” (F on PC / Square on PlayStation)
On unlock: You receive 300 XP and the “DOOR UNLOCKED” confirmation

What’s Inside the Commandant Office

Inside the Commandant Office, you’ll find:

Rifle cases — often contain weapons or weapon components
Weapon Lockers — can hold contraband weapons, weapon manuals, or high-value materials
Additional key drops — community reports confirm other keys have been found inside, including at least one instance of a Reactor 02 Control Room key in a duffel bag
Materials and cash — standard high-tier POI loot including electronics, armor components, and banked cash

The loot pool here reflects the EXTREME threat rating of the building — you’re not getting common crate filler. The Weapon Lockers in particular are worth targeting, as they can turn up Epic or Legendary contraband weapons depending on the run.

Tips for Running the Commandant Office Key

Bring a full squad. Admin Complex No. 2 at EXTREME threat has aggressive AI that pushes constantly. A solo run here is very risky, especially if another squad is also hitting the Air Base.
Use the south wall entry. Crawling through the perimeter hole on the south side of the base is quieter than fighting through the main entrance and gets you to Admin Complex faster.
Don’t skip the stairwell fight. AI enemies often camp the upper floors of Admin Complex No. 2. Clear the stairwell before you focus on the door, or you’ll be looting under fire.
Stack armor before entering. The Air Base drops armor from defeated enemies frequently. Use that to stay topped up rather than burning through your own plates before you even reach the key room.
Plan your exfil route before you go in. The Air Base is in the northwest section of Hajin. Know your nearest extraction point before you start — the area will be hot after you’ve been looting for a few minutes.
