TL;DR
- Comms Modules are Epic-rarity crafting ingredients found in computers and server racks across Hajin.
- Best farming spots: Deadtown (safest), Cheonwang Peak Array (best server density), and Netshin Tech Complex (high-risk, high-reward).
- They are a chance spawn — not guaranteed on every loot.
- You can also craft them at the 3D Printer using 100x Electronics + 3x CPUs (requires Epic Ingredient Printing upgrade).
- You need 5 Comms Modules to unlock the Uncommon Ingredient Printing upgrade at your FOB.
- They are also used in crafting the Advanced UAV, Fulton Drop Marker, and the Stash Weapon Upgrade I.
What Are Comms Modules in MW4 DMZ?
Comms Modules are Epic-rarity crafting ingredients in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. They show up inside computers and server racks across the Hajin Exclusion Zone, and they are not the easiest thing to track down. The drop rate is low, and even hitting a well-stocked server room doesn’t guarantee you’ll walk away with one.
That said, they’re worth chasing. Five Comms Modules unlock the Uncommon Ingredient Printing upgrade at your FOB’s 3D Printer, which opens up a whole new tier of crafting. Beyond that, they’re required for some of the most useful items you can craft in the mode, including the Advanced UAV and the Fulton Drop Marker.

All Comms Module Locations in MW4 DMZ
There are three main areas on the Hajin map where Comms Modules can spawn. Each one has a different threat level, different enemy density, and a different number of searchable loot points. Here’s what you need to know about each one.
1. Deadtown (Best for Solo Players and Beginners)
Deadtown is on the North Korean side of the Hajin map and carries a medium threat level in its exterior, with the Re-Education Center inside bumping up to medium-high. Compared to the other Comms Module farming spots, it’s the most approachable — which is why most players recommend starting here, especially if you’re going in solo.
The buildings you want are on the eastern side of Deadtown. Head upstairs in the light-blue buildings in that area and search the computers you find on the top floors. These are the rooms most likely to contain a Comms Module. Not every computer will have one — remember, it’s an Epic chance spawn — but if you hit all the buildings on the east side in a single deployment, your odds improve significantly.
The enemy presence here is manageable with basic loadouts, and the layout of the area lets you move between buildings fairly quickly. If you’re just starting to build up your FOB and need those first five Comms Modules for the Uncommon Ingredient Printing upgrade, this is the place to grind.
2. Cheonwang Peak Array (Best Server Density)
Cheonwang Peak Array sits in the central part of the Hajin map on the South Korean side, rated as a medium threat location. It’s a former communications facility built on a summit, and that tech-heavy background means it has server rooms that are ideal for farming Comms Modules.
Once you land, head into the main communications building and find the second-floor Data Farm. This room has several rows of server racks you can search one by one. At the far end of the compound, there’s a second building with additional servers. If you clear both in a single run, you’ve covered the best of what this location offers.
Enemy density here is higher than Deadtown but still very workable with a decent loadout. The rooftop helipad is a useful feature too — if you fly in via helicopter, you can park it and use it again to escape quickly after looting. Given the density of searchable servers here, this is arguably the most reliable farming route if you have the firepower to handle it.
3. Netshin Tech Complex at The Grid (High Risk, High Reward)
This is the hardest of the three locations and shouldn’t be your first stop. The Grid is a Critical threat area, and the Netshin Tech Complex inside it takes that even further with an Extreme threat rating. You’ll face barricades, watchtowers, and well-armed patrols throughout. On top of that, Lieutenant Jang-Ui operates here — one of Hajin’s most dangerous lieutenants — and the complex is the main location for the Operation Grid Assault Story Mission.
That said, if you’re well-geared and going in with a full squad, the server rooms inside Netshin Tech Complex have solid Comms Module potential. Land on the rooftop, make your way through the building systematically, and loot every computer and server rack you find.
The risk is real. Don’t push this area without armor, reliable weapons, and a plan to exit quickly. If you only need one or two more Comms Modules to hit your target, finish the Deadtown and Cheonwang routes first before taking on Netshin.

Can Crashed Drones Drop Comms Modules?
Yes, but it’s not reliable. Some players have reported finding Comms Modules by locating already-crashed large drones in the field, clearing the guards around them, and searching the panel on the drone’s side. It’s a situational bonus rather than a farming strategy — if you come across one while running your usual route, check it. Don’t plan your entire run around hunting crashed drones.
Can You Get Comms Modules from Killing the Death Stalker Commander?
Yes. The Death Stalker commander can drop a Comms Module in its loot. This is another situational source rather than a reliable farming method, but if you’re fighting the commander anyway — for missions, bounties, or boss progression — it’s worth checking the loot afterward. Commanders in general tend to carry better materials than standard enemies, so they’re always worth engaging when you have the firepower for it.

How to Craft Comms Modules at the 3D Printer
If field looting feels too slow or inconsistent, you can craft Comms Modules directly at your FOB’s 3D Printer. The recipe is:
- 100x Electronics
- 3x CPUs

There’s a catch though: this recipe is locked behind the Epic Ingredient Printing upgrade at your FOB. Unlocking that upgrade requires:
- $100,000 DMZ Cash
- 10x Binding Catalysts
- 10x Printed Circuit Boards
- 5x Military Composites
That’s a significant investment, so it’s worth building up your resources across multiple deployments before trying to unlock it. Once you have Epic Ingredient Printing active though, crafting Comms Modules becomes a much more dependable supply method — especially if you’re sitting on a lot of Electronics from earlier runs.

What Are Comms Modules Used For in MW4 DMZ?
Comms Modules show up in four different recipes. Here’s a breakdown of each one:
Uncommon Ingredient Printing Upgrade
This is the main reason you’ll be farming Comms Modules early in your DMZ progression. Unlocking Uncommon Ingredient Printing at your FOB opens up a new tier of crafting recipes for better gear. You need 5x Comms Modules for this upgrade.
Stash Weapon Upgrade I
Expands your stash weapon storage at the FOB. Recipe: $50,000 + 7x Reactive Metals + 10x Stock Rods + 5x Comms Modules. If you’re serious about building out your stash, this upgrade is on the list.
Advanced UAV
One of the most powerful support items in DMZ. The Advanced UAV reveals enemy positions across the entire map. Recipe: 2x Comms Modules + 3x Nitro Compounds + 5x Electronic Sensors. This is particularly useful before pushing into high-threat areas or during tense extractions where you want full intel.
Fulton Drop Marker
Lets you call in a supply drop from the air. Recipe: 1x Prototype RF Module + 3x Comms Modules + 5x Control Units. A useful crafted item for resupplying mid-deployment without needing to exfil.
Comms Module Farming Tips
A few things to keep in mind before you head out:
- Use a Backpack with a Secure slot. Comms Modules are Epic rarity, which means they sit in a standard inventory slot. If you’re eliminated before exfil, you lose them. A backpack with a Secure compartment protects your most valuable items even if you go down. Don’t skip this.
- Epic spawns are not guaranteed. The Comms Module is a chance drop, not a guaranteed loot item. You can search ten computers in a single run and walk away with nothing. Plan for multiple deployments rather than expecting to fill your quota in one trip.
- Start with Deadtown if you’re solo. Lower threat level, manageable enemies, and enough computers to make it worthwhile. Only graduate to Cheonwang Peak Array or Netshin Tech Complex once you have a loadout that can handle the increased pressure.
- Hit both buildings at Cheonwang. There are two buildings with server racks at this location. Most players loot the main Data Farm building and leave — don’t make that mistake. The second building at the other end of the compound adds more chances at a drop.
- Track the recipe in-game. Once you know what you’re farming for, pin the recipe that requires Comms Modules in your 3D Printer. The game will highlight the ingredient for you in your HUD, making it easier to identify relevant loot containers as you search.
Should You Farm or Craft Comms Modules?
Early game — farm them. The Epic Ingredient Printing upgrade that unlocks crafting requires a lot of materials you probably don’t have yet. Deadtown and Cheonwang Peak Array are your best paths to grabbing the five you need for the Uncommon Ingredient Printing upgrade, and once that’s done, more DMZ crafting options open up.
Mid-to-late game — craft them. Once your FOB is built up and you have the Epic Ingredient Printing upgrade active, the 3D Printer becomes the more reliable supply method. Electronics and CPUs are far easier to stockpile than hunting Epic-chance drops. Use field farming to bridge the gap until crafting becomes available.
