Who Is Shikanoin Heizou in Genshin Impact?
Shikanoin Heizou is a 4-star Anemo character who uses a Catalyst. He was added in Genshin Impact Version 2.8 and made history as the first male Catalyst user in the game. Despite holding a Catalyst, he does not fight like a traditional mage. Instead, he punches, kicks, and brawls his way through enemies with wind-infused fists — earning him the nickname “One-Punch Man” from the community.
He works for the Tenryou Commission in Inazuma and is considered its best detective. His title is Analytical Harmony, and his constellation is Cervus Scutatosus. He is described as cheerful, free-spirited, and a little unruly — but highly effective when a case needs solving. Learn more about Shikanoin Heizou’s lore and character details on our dedicated page.

Genshin Impact is free to play on PC via the official site, Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, and Xbox.
Shikanoin Heizou Skills and Abilities
Normal Attack: Fudou Style Martial Arts
Heizou performs up to 5 fisticuffs infused with Anemo, dealing Anemo damage with each hit. This is unusual for a Catalyst user — instead of casting spells at range, he closes in and punches enemies directly. His Charged Attack consumes Stamina to perform a sweeping kick that deals Anemo damage. His Plunge Attack drops from mid-air to deal AoE Anemo damage on landing.
Because all of his Normal Attacks deal Anemo damage, Heizou can trigger Swirl reactions consistently with every swing. This makes him a natural on-field driver for reaction-based teams.
Elemental Skill: Heartstopper Strike
This is Heizou’s most important ability and the core of his damage output. It works in two ways:
- Tap: Heizou immediately throws a powerful Anemo-infused punch that deals Anemo damage. Quick and efficient for rotations.
- Hold: Heizou charges up to 4 Declension stacks, increasing the strike’s power. When all 4 stacks are active, the Conviction effect triggers — making the hit even stronger and expanding its AoE.
Declension stacks can also be built passively. Every time Heizou triggers a Swirl reaction while on the field, he gains 1 Declension stack, up to once every 0.1 seconds. In practice, you can enter the field, do a few Normal Attacks to Swirl, and then unleash a nearly max-stacked Heartstopper Strike without holding the skill at all.
Elemental Burst: Windmuster Kick
Heizou launches a Fudou Style Vacuum Slugger — a powerful kick that explodes and deals AoE Anemo damage. If any nearby enemies are already affected by Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro, the burst applies a Windmuster Iris mark to them. This mark then detonates, dealing additional AoE damage of that element type.
The burst has moderate damage and a grouping pull effect, though it is weaker than what characters like Venti or Kazuha can do. Its main value is the elemental explosions from the Windmuster Iris marks. At C2, the burst also restores energy for Heizou, which helps with his sometimes demanding ER needs.
Passive Talents
- A1 – Paradoxical Practice: When Heizou activates a Swirl reaction on the field, he gains 1 Declension stack for Heartstopper Strike. Triggers once every 0.1 seconds. This passive is the reason you can build stacks quickly through Normal Attacks rather than by holding the skill.
- A4 – Penetrative Reasoning: After Heartstopper Strike hits an opponent, all other party members gain 80 Elemental Mastery for 10 seconds. This buffs your team’s reaction damage and mirrors similar passives on Sucrose and Kazuha.
- Utility Passive – Pre-Existing Guilt: Reduces sprinting Stamina consumption for the whole party by 20%. Very handy for exploration in open-world traversal.
Shikanoin Heizou Constellations
Heizou’s constellations each add meaningful improvements. Here is what each one does:
- C1 – Named Juvenile Casebook: For 5 seconds after Heizou takes the field, his Normal Attack speed increases by 15%. He also immediately gains 1 Declension stack when he swaps in. Triggers once every 10 seconds. This makes his opening rotation much smoother.
- C2 – Investigative Collection: The first Windmuster Iris explosion from Windmuster Kick restores 9 Elemental Energy for Heizou. Each subsequent explosion restores 1.5 Energy. This greatly reduces his ER requirement and is the most impactful constellation for sustaining his burst uptime.
- C3 – Esoteric Puzzle Book: Increases the level of Heartstopper Strike by 3, up to a maximum of Level 15. More skill damage.
- C4 – Tome of Lies: The pull effect of the Windmuster Iris explosions is enhanced and the duration increases to 1 second. Better grouping during the burst.
- C5 – Irreducible Theorem: Increases the level of Windmuster Kick by 3, up to a maximum of Level 15. More burst damage.
- C6 – Barebones: Reduces Heizou’s Charged Attack Stamina consumption by 30% and increases the AoE of Declension stacks’ explosion. Opens up Charged Attack-focused rotations.
Best constellation to aim for: C2 is the key stopping point. It takes real pressure off your Energy Recharge build and keeps Heizou’s burst available every rotation. C1 is also a nice quality-of-life bonus and should come naturally from pulling multiples on a banner.
Best Weapons for Shikanoin Heizou
Top Picks for CRIT DPS Build
- Kagura’s Verity (5-star): Provides CRIT DMG as a substat and a stacking Elemental DMG bonus every time the skill is used. Since Heizou uses his skill constantly, this ramps up quickly and makes it one of his best weapons overall for raw damage.
- Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds (5-star): Gives CRIT Rate as a substat and builds up an Elemental DMG bonus the longer Heizou stays on the field. With Bennett’s ATK buff, this weapon pulls ahead of others. Strong in sustained on-field DPS rotations.
- Skyward Atlas (5-star): Raises ATK and Elemental DMG bonus. Its passive occasionally fires a seeking blade. A solid all-around option if you have it.
Best 4-Star Weapons
- The Widsith (4-star): When Heizou takes the field, he randomly gains either ATK%, Elemental DMG Bonus, or Elemental Mastery for 10 seconds. The randomness is a downside, but when it hits the right buff it produces the highest single burst window of any 4-star catalyst.
- Solar Pearl (4-star, Battle Pass): CRIT Rate substat. Using a Normal Attack briefly boosts Skill and Burst damage, and vice versa. Very consistent for Heizou’s rotation-heavy playstyle.
- Blackcliff Agate (4-star, Starglitter shop): CRIT DMG substat and a stacking ATK bonus after kills. Works well in scenarios with multiple enemies.
Best Free-to-Play Weapons
- Mappa Mare (4-star, Craftable): Elemental Mastery substat with an Elemental DMG bonus that activates on Swirl. Easy to craft and works with any Heizou build, especially in Swirl-heavy teams.
- Sacrificial Fragments (4-star): Elemental Mastery substat and a chance to reset the skill cooldown. Great for reaction-focused builds and EM Swirl team comps.
Best Artifacts for Shikanoin Heizou
Best Set for Most Teams: 4-Piece Viridescent Venerer
This is the go-to artifact set for Heizou in nearly all reaction-based teams. The 4-piece bonus increases Swirl damage by 60% and decreases enemies’ resistance to the element being Swirled by 40% for 10 seconds. Since Heizou is constantly Swirling with his Normal Attacks, this resistance shred applies non-stop, which massively boosts your whole team’s elemental damage output.
Even in a CRIT-focused build, this set is typically the better choice because the team-wide resistance reduction is worth more than Heizou’s personal damage gain from switching to a different set.
Best Set for Pure CRIT Heizou: 4-Piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle
If your team already has another Anemo character using 4-piece VV — or you want to push Heizou’s personal damage as high as possible — the 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle is an excellent alternative. It gives Anemo DMG Bonus from the 2-piece effect, and the 4-piece passive increases Normal and Charged Attack damage after using a Charged Attack. It fits well when Heizou is the sole Anemo unit and paired with Faruzan who handles the resistance shred.
Other Viable Options
- 2-piece Viridescent Venerer + 2-piece ATK% set (Gladiator’s Finale, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, or Vermillion Hereafter): A balanced mix if you cannot farm a good full 4-piece. You still get Swirl DMG bonus and a 18% ATK boost.
- 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter: Works when paired with Furina, whose HP-draining abilities stack this set’s passive passively to raise CRIT Rate. A strong option in Furina-inclusive teams.
Artifact Main Stats
- Sands: ATK%
- Goblet: Anemo DMG Bonus%
- Circlet: CRIT Rate% or CRIT DMG%
- Sub-stats to prioritize: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Energy Recharge
For Elemental Mastery-focused Swirl builds in multi-enemy content, you can swap the Sands to EM and the Circlet to EM as well. However, CRIT builds generally perform better against bosses and single targets, so a balanced CRIT build with a VV set is the most versatile choice overall.
Best Teams for Shikanoin Heizou
Best Team: Heizou Anemo CRIT Team
This is Heizou’s strongest team composition, rated SS tier by most community resources:
- Shikanoin Heizou – On-field Main DPS using Desert Pavilion Chronicle
- Faruzan – Anemo support who reduces enemy Anemo RES and boosts Heizou’s CRIT DMG (especially at C6)
- Yelan – Off-field Hydro sub-DPS for Swirl reactions and consistent damage
- Bennett – Healing and massive ATK buff from his burst zone
Faruzan does the heavy lifting here. Her resistance shred and DMG bonus specifically benefit Anemo damage, which is exactly what Heizou deals. Combined with Bennett’s ATK zone and Yelan’s off-field Hydro for continuous Swirl procs, Heizou hits extremely hard with his Heartstopper Strike and Normal Attacks. This is the best team if you want to maximize Heizou’s personal damage.
Electro-Charged Driver Team
Heizou thrives as an on-field driver in Electro-Charged teams. The lineup:
- Shikanoin Heizou – On-field Swirl driver with 4-piece Viridescent Venerer
- Fischl – Off-field Electro from Oz, triggers Electro-Charged with Xingqiu/Kokomi
- Xingqiu or Yelan – Off-field Hydro for Electro-Charged reactions
- Sangonomiya Kokomi or Beidou – Additional Hydro or Electro coverage and healing
Heizou’s Normal Attacks Swirl Hydro and Electro continuously, spreading the Electro-Charged reaction across groups of enemies. The 4-piece VV resistance shred then amplifies both Hydro and Electro damage for the whole team. This is a great setup for Spiral Abyss floors with clustered enemies. Check our Fischl guide and Yelan guide to see how to build these teammates.
Vaporize Support Team
Heizou can also serve as an Anemo support in a Vaporize team:
- Shikanoin Heizou – Swirl driver and resistance shredder (4-piece VV)
- Xiangling – Off-field Pyro DPS
- Xingqiu or Yelan – Off-field Hydro for Vaporize
- Bennett – Healing, ATK buff, Pyro Resonance
In this setup, Heizou uses VV to shred Hydro and Pyro resistance, amplifying Xiangling’s Vaporize damage. He stays on the field long enough to proc Swirl, then swaps out for Xiangling to deal the big hits. This team is fully accessible to most players and works well even without five-star characters. For more context on building Xiangling and Bennett together, see the Xiangling and Bennett character pages.
Budget Electro Team
A more free-to-play friendly team for newer players:
- Shikanoin Heizou – On-field Swirl driver
- Beidou – Off-field Electro damage via burst
- Fischl – Continuous off-field Electro from Oz
- Xingqiu – Off-field Hydro for Electro-Charged
This is a fully 4-star team that handles most content comfortably. Heizou drives reactions constantly, and the double Electro setup with Beidou and Fischl provides strong off-field damage alongside Xingqiu’s Hydro.
Shikanoin Heizou Ascension Materials
To fully ascend Heizou to Level 90, you will need the following:
Gem Type
- Vayuda Turquoise (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, and Gemstone) – The Anemo gem. Drops from the Anemo Hypostasis, Maguu Kenki, and Stormterror Dvalin weekly boss. All Anemo characters use this gem, so you may already have some saved.
Boss Drop
- Runic Fangs – Dropped by the Ruin Serpent boss, located inside the Serpent’s Cave in The Chasm: Underground Mines in Liyue. Spend 40 Original Resin per run to collect these.
Local Specialty
- Onikabuto – A beetle found across Inazuma, particularly near large Electro crystals. These are spread throughout Kannazuka, Yashiori Island, and Mt. Yougou. You will need a large number of these, so gather them across multiple days or use the interactive map to find all spawn points.
Enemy Drops
- Treasure Hoarder Insignia
- Silver Raven Insignia
- Golden Raven Insignia
All three tiers drop from Treasure Hoarder enemies found throughout Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma.
Ascension Stat
Heizou gains Anemo DMG Bonus as his bonus ascension stat. By the time he reaches his final ascension at Level 90, he gains a total of 24% bonus Anemo DMG from ascension alone — making raw Anemo damage builds very effective without needing to stack it on your artifacts.
Shikanoin Heizou Talent Materials
To level up Heizou’s talents, you will need:
- Transience Talent Books: Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Transience — farmed from the Violet Court Domain in Inazuma, available on Mondays and Thursdays
- Treasure Hoarder Insignias (all three tiers) — enemy drops
- The Meaning of Aeons — weekly boss material from the Raiden Shogun boss fight (Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto)
- Crown of Insight — needed to max a talent to Level 10
Talent Priority
- Elemental Skill first — Heartstopper Strike is his main damage ability. Level this as high as possible.
- Normal Attack second — His Normal Attacks both deal Anemo damage and build Swirl stacks, so upgrading them raises both his damage and his stack-generation efficiency.
- Elemental Burst third — The burst is useful but contributes less to overall damage compared to his skill and Normal Attacks.
Heizou Playstyle Tips
Heizou has a different rhythm to most characters. Here are key tips to play him well:
- Use Normal Attacks to build Declension stacks before using Heartstopper Strike. A simple N1 (Normal Attack) followed by a Charged Attack to Swirl once or twice is enough to build 2–3 stacks passively before you throw the punch. This avoids holding the skill and speeds up rotations.
- In single-target fights against bosses, hold the skill to charge all 4 Declension stacks for maximum Conviction damage. You can also get into position and hold while the previous character finishes their rotation.
- Use your burst before swapping off to apply Windmuster Iris marks to enemies that already have elements on them. This gives you the elemental explosion bonus even while Heizou is off the field.
- Stay close to enemies. Heizou is a melee fighter. His Normal Attacks require him to be right next to enemies. Keep this in mind in fights where enemies move around a lot or knock you back frequently.
- Keep at least 160% Energy Recharge before C2. After C2, you can drop this closer to 130–140% as his burst refunds a significant amount of energy to itself.
- Pair with a healer or shielder in content where enemies deal heavy damage. Since Heizou fights at close range, he takes more hits than a typical backliner. Characters like Kokomi or Zhongli help keep him alive while on the field.
Shikanoin Heizou Lore and Background
Heizou is the star detective of the Tenryou Commission — one of the three governing bodies of Inazuma. He works under Kujou Sara, though their dynamic is complicated. Sara is methodical and strict; Heizou is free-spirited and prone to going off-script. Despite her clear disapproval of his unruly methods, Sara keeps him on the payroll because his results are simply too good to ignore. The Tenryou Commission’s jail cells are reportedly packed thanks to criminals Heizou tracked and caught through sheer instinct and logical deduction.
He has a noted rivalry with Sango, the head of the Bantan Sango Detective Agency. The two operate in the same space but with very different philosophies. Kamisato Ayaka has noted that Heizou is highly principled — he just decides for himself which matters fall under his principles, and which do not.
His Anemo Vision reflects his personality. Heizou’s mind moves like wind — constantly, unpredictably, and in every direction at once. He does not fit the mold of a traditional detective, or a traditional anything. But his sharp senses and clear thinking make him one of the most capable individuals in all of Inazuma.
How to Get Shikanoin Heizou
Heizou is available on the Standard Wish banner permanently. He first appeared in Version 2.8 on Kazuha’s event banner, and has since rerun multiple times alongside other characters. He is a standard 4-star, which means you can obtain him through any event wish or standard wish at any time.
He has also occasionally been given away through special in-game events that hand out free 4-star characters. Keep an eye on limited-time event rewards to potentially grab him without spending Primogems.
Is Shikanoin Heizou Worth Building?
Yes, Heizou is absolutely worth building — especially if you like an active, on-field playstyle. He is one of the most unique characters in Genshin Impact. No other catalyst user fights like him, and very few 4-stars can match his single-target burst damage when properly built at C2.
His biggest challenge is his split-scaling. Building CRIT stats helps his personal damage, but his A4 passive gives the team EM and his VV uptime helps elemental teams. You have to decide early on whether you want him as a personal DPS with CRIT stats, or as a Swirl driver with EM and VV. Both work well — but they need different artifacts and weapons.
His close-range fighting style does require some investment in survivability or strong shielding, and he needs some adjustment time for players used to typical ranged catalyst playstyles. But once you get his rhythm down, he is genuinely fun and effective. If you are exploring the Snezhnaya region and want to diversify your roster, he pairs well with reaction-based teams alongside newer characters like Alyosha and Odette, whose ascension and talent materials and Odette’s materials you can farm in Snezhnaya content.
