Valor Mortis Till Death Quest Guide — Red Ribbon Location and Rewards

Valor Mortis Till Death Quest Guide

    TL;DR

    • Till Death is a Chapter 6 side quest in the Cursed Hollow region.
    • Start it by defeating Anna, the Bride Drowned in Tears and interacting with her wreath at the altar in the boss arena.
    • Continue through the chapter until you reach the church and obtain the Claymore.
    • Exit the church through the back, turn right at the fork, watch the blue memory, and pick up the Red Ribbon from the grave.
    • Return to the wreath near the Village Church Lantern and place the ribbon on it to earn the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber.
    • Rest at a lantern, then return to the wreath one final time to fully complete the quest.
    • Final rewards: Tomorrow’s Promise Amber + a Revenant’s Return consumable.

Till Death is one of those quests in Valor Mortis that players often forget about — not because it’s hard to start, but because there’s a big gap between starting it and finishing it. You fight the boss, interact with a wreath, and then the quest just sits in your log while you keep playing. The Red Ribbon you need to find comes much later in the same chapter, and if you’re not paying attention, you can walk straight past it. This guide covers every step so nothing gets missed.

Where to Start the Till Death Quest in Valor Mortis

This quest opens up during Chapter 6: Punishment in the Cursed Hollow region. You won’t be able to start it until you’ve made your way through the swampy village area and reached a wedding ceremony happening in the middle of the settlement — which, given the state of everything in this game, goes about as badly as you’d expect.

The nearest Lantern is Eerie View. If you haven’t lit it yet, you’ll want to do so before pushing into the boss arena ahead.

Defeat Anna, the Bride Drowned in Tears

As you head forward through the archway past the wedding setup, you’ll come face to face with Anna, the Bride Drowned in Tears — the main boss of Chapter 6. She’s an aggressive close-range fighter who gets in your face with melee combos and occasionally throws in a glowing red jump attack. Red means unblockable, so dodge that one rather than trying to parry it.

Anna’s other big trick is summoning Shambling Civilians mid-fight to swarm you. Don’t let the adds pile up. A grenade clears the crowd quickly so you can refocus on Anna without getting flanked. Once the adds are gone, get back to reading her attack patterns — parry the regular hits, dodge the red ones, and punish her in the gaps.

She hits hard, but she’s not the most technically demanding boss in the game once you’ve got her rhythm. If you’re struggling, our best stats to level first guide can help you figure out where to put points before attempting the fight again.

Interact with the Wreath to Begin Till Death

Once Anna is down, don’t leave the boss arena straight away. Look for the altar at the far end of the arena. On it you’ll find a wilted wreath with some candles around it. Interact with it.

A blue memory nearby reveals what happened — Anna had a lucky red ribbon that she lost in the chapel while praying before the wedding. That ribbon is what the wreath is missing. The Till Death quest is now active in your log.

The problem is the chapel is a long way from here. You’ll need to keep progressing through Chapter 6 before you can get the ribbon.

Red Ribbon Location in Valor Mortis — Till Death Quest

This is the part most players miss. The Red Ribbon is found near the Village Church, toward the end of Chapter 6. You need to keep pushing through the chapter after the boss fight. Here’s exactly what to do when you get there.

Step 1 — Get the Claymore Inside the Church

When you reach the Village Church Lantern and head inside, you’ll pick up the Claymore — the game’s final melee weapon. This is a natural story beat, so you’ll hit it as part of normal progression. After getting the weapon, there will be a wave of enemies to defeat. Clear them out.

For a full breakdown of how the Claymore compares to other weapons, check our Claymore sword guide.

Step 2 — Exit Through the Back and Turn Right

After dealing with the enemies, leave the church through the door on the opposite side — the back exit. Follow the path around the outside of the church. You’ll come to a fork in the road.

Turn right. Don’t go left — the right path leads to a dead end, but it’s the dead end you want. Head down that path until you see a blue memory circle on the ground. Step into it to watch a flashback.

Step 3 — Pick Up the Red Ribbon from the Grave

Right in the same spot as the blue memory, you’ll find the Red Ribbon lying on a grave. Pick it up. Your quest log updates to send you back to the wreath.

It’s easy to miss this entirely if you’re moving quickly and skip the blue memory circle. The ribbon is right there alongside it, so as long as you stop to watch the memory, you’ll see it.

How to Complete the Till Death Quest — Return the Red Ribbon

With the Red Ribbon in your inventory, it’s time to head back to where the boss fight took place.

Step 1 — Return to the Village Church Lantern

Fast travel to the Village Church Lantern if you have it. From the lantern, walk forward and take the second left. This brings you back to the altar where the wreath is sitting.

Step 2 — Place the Red Ribbon on the Wreath

Interact with the wreath to place the Red Ribbon on it. You’ll receive the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber at this point. If you already have Tomorrow’s Promise from an earlier quest like Lullaby, this will upgrade it to Level 2, which is a solid bonus worth knowing about.

After placing the ribbon, your quest log will update and tell you there’s likely more to the story. It’s not done yet — don’t walk away thinking you’re finished.

Step 3 — Rest at a Lantern and Return

Head to any nearby Lantern and rest. Then walk back to the wreath one more time and interact with it. You’ll find that the Red Ribbon caused the wreath to bloom. That interaction is what formally completes the Till Death quest.

This final step catches a lot of people off guard. Placing the ribbon doesn’t finish it — you have to rest and come back. Don’t forget it.

Till Death Quest Rewards in Valor Mortis

Here’s what you get for completing Till Death:

    • Tomorrow’s Promise Amber — awarded when you place the Red Ribbon on the wreath. If you already own this Amber from the Lullaby quest, it upgrades to Level 2 instead.
    • Revenant’s Return consumable — received when the quest fully completes after resting and returning to the bloomed wreath.

Tomorrow’s Promise changes how your Ferrofluid Flask works. Instead of an instant health restore, it gives you a regeneration effect over time. This is better in some situations and worse in others — if you’re mid-combat and need health immediately, the slow regen can be a problem. But for sustained exploration and dealing with chip damage, it’s genuinely useful. Worth testing to see if it suits your playstyle.

Is the Till Death Quest Missable in Valor Mortis?

No — you can return to Cursed Hollow and complete Till Death at any point. The wreath stays at the altar after the boss fight, and the Red Ribbon stays at the grave outside the church. Nothing locks you out of this quest.

The only truly missable quest in the game is The Choir, which requires you to explore the prison during Chapter 10 before leaving. Everything else, including Till Death, is safe to come back to. Check our all chapters list for a full picture of quest windows across the game.

Frequently Asked Questions — Valor Mortis Till Death Quest

How do you start the Till Death quest in Valor Mortis?

Defeat Anna, the Bride Drowned in Tears — the Chapter 6 boss in the Cursed Hollow. After the fight, interact with the wilted wreath at the altar inside the boss arena to begin the quest. The nearest Lantern is Eerie View.

Where is the Red Ribbon in Valor Mortis?

The Red Ribbon is found near the Village Church toward the end of Chapter 6. After picking up the Claymore inside the church and defeating the enemies, exit through the back door and take the right fork outside. You’ll find a blue memory circle and the Red Ribbon on a grave right beside it.

How do you complete the Till Death quest in Valor Mortis?

Pick up the Red Ribbon from the grave near the church, return to the wreath at the boss arena altar, and place the ribbon on it. After that, rest at a Lantern and come back to interact with the wreath one final time. The bloomed wreath completes the quest.

What is the reward for Till Death in Valor Mortis?

You receive the Tomorrow’s Promise Amber when you place the ribbon on the wreath. If you already have this Amber, it upgrades to Level 2. After resting and returning to the bloomed wreath, you also receive a Revenant’s Return consumable.

What does Tomorrow’s Promise do in Valor Mortis?

When equipped, Tomorrow’s Promise changes your Ferrofluid Flask so that it regenerates health over time instead of healing you instantly. This replaces the standard instant heal, so it works best in situations where you have time to let the regen tick — less ideal for emergency heals mid-combat.

Is the Till Death quest missable in Valor Mortis?

No. The wreath and the Red Ribbon both stay in place. You can complete this quest at any point in the game by returning to the Cursed Hollow.

Why won’t the Till Death quest complete after I placed the ribbon?

Placing the ribbon isn’t the final step. You need to rest at a Lantern first, then return to the wreath and interact with it one more time. The bloomed wreath triggers the quest completion and the final reward.
