LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight goes big on vehicles. With over 30 rides spanning more than 86 years of Batman history, there is something here for every kind of Bat-fan — from the classic 1966 TV show Batmobile to the Tumbler from The Dark Knight, obscure motorcycle designs, and even a sports car for Talia al Ghul. Each of the game’s 7 playable characters has their own vehicle roster, and unlocking all of them takes a mix of story progress, open-world side activities, and Stud farming.

This guide covers every vehicle in the game, exactly how to unlock each one, how to change and customise vehicles on the fly, and some tips for farming Studs efficiently so you can buy the expensive ones without too much grinding.

How to Unlock Vehicles in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Vehicles become available once you finish the Prologue and complete your first major mission as Batman. After that, the Batcave Garage opens up at the Batmobile computer terminal, where you can purchase and track every vehicle.

There are several ways vehicles unlock. Some are free through story progression — you simply reach the right chapter and they appear in your garage. Others require completing specific open-world activities before you can purchase them with Studs. Here is a breakdown of all the unlock methods:

  • Story Missions: Completing specific main missions hands you vehicles automatically at no Stud cost.
  • Stud Purchase: Buy directly from the Batcave Garage terminal using Studs earned during gameplay.
  • AR Trials: These are optional traversal, combat, and racing challenges scattered across Gotham’s open world. Completing a set number unlocks certain vehicles for free or makes them purchasable.
  • WayneTech Caches: Collecting enough of these through missions unlocks certain vehicles as purchasable options.
  • Open-World Activities: Lost Zoo Animals, Falcone Fortunes, Waylon Jones Cases, SubWayne Stations, and Ivy Plantlife all count as unlock requirements for specific vehicles.
  • DLC Packs: The Arkham Trilogy, Batman Beyond, and Party Music packs each add one exclusive vehicle to the game.
  • Physical LEGO Sets: Purchasing The Batman Batmobile, Batman and Robin Batmobile, or Batman v Superman Batmobile LEGO sets comes with a QR code in the instructions. Scanning it unlocks a golden variant of that vehicle in-game.
  • Deluxe Edition: The Batmobeast is exclusive to the Deluxe Edition of the game.

What Are AR Trials?

AR Trials are optional challenges you find scattered throughout Gotham City’s open world. There are 30 of them in total and they come in three types — aerial traversal trials, combat trials, and racing trials. Each one awards a medal based on your performance. You do not need gold medals on all of them for vehicle unlocks, but completing enough of them is required for several free vehicle rewards. Racing trials tend to be the easiest to get gold on, followed by combat and then aerial. Fully upgrading Batman before attempting combat trials makes them noticeably easier.

Tips for Farming Studs to Buy All Vehicles

Buying every purchasable vehicle costs over 666,000 Studs in total. That is a big number, especially in the early game. Here are some tips to make the farming process much faster.

  • Buy the Batman ’89 Batmobile first. At just 1,000 Studs, it is essentially free and is a great way to get more comfortable with the driving mechanics early on.
  • Complete AR Trials as soon as possible. The Batpod (4 trials), Batcycle (8 trials), and Wingcycle (25 trials) all cost zero Studs. Getting these out of the way saves thousands of Studs for bigger purchases.
  • Prioritise WayneTech Caches in missions. They not only upgrade your characters but also unlock vehicle purchase options. Hit the Cache milestones early so vehicles become available when you need them. Our New Beginnings guide and Infiltration guide show how to grab Caches alongside other collectibles in Chapter 1.
  • Save up for the big ones last. The First Appearance Batmobile costs 150,000 Studs and the Batman ’66 costs 66,000. Tackle cheaper vehicles first and leave these for when your Stud reserves are healthy.
  • Farm Studs efficiently. Our Infinite Studs guide covers the fastest farming methods including Stud multiplier tricks and Jim Gordon’s Rebound Launcher technique.
  • Do not spend Studs on Batcave Props early. Props are purely decorative. If you are working toward full vehicle completion, hold your Studs for vehicles and suits first.

Can You Display Vehicles in the Batcave?

Yes. The Batcave is not just a menu hub — it is a living trophy room. Every vehicle you unlock can be displayed there alongside suits and collectible trophies. You customise the Batcave layout at your leisure, and it is one of the most satisfying parts of going for full completion. The more you unlock, the more impressive your underground lair looks.

Ending Note

The vehicle roster in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is one of the best parts of the game for anyone who grew up watching Batman across different eras. The range here is genuinely impressive — you go from the campy 1966 TV Batmobile all the way to the brutal Tumbler and beyond.

Most vehicles unlock naturally as you play, and the Stud cost for the purchasable ones is very manageable if you farm consistently. Prioritise AR Trials for free unlocks, keep collecting WayneTech Caches in every mission, and save your big Stud reserves for the First Appearance Batmobile and Batman ’66. By the time you hit Chapter 6, you should have a solid collection already sitting in your garage.
