- The X-58 NYX is an integrally suppressed SMG with very low recoil, high impact, and a steady fire rate โ built for stealthy, close-range play.
- It ranks as Absolute Meta in MW4 Multiplayer with a 6.9% pick rate and holds a solid spot in DMZ close-range fights.
- The best multiplayer build focuses on recoil control, ADS speed, and mobility โ you do not need to fight the gun, just point and fire.
- For DMZ, swap in a 60 Round Mag to handle armoured AI enemies across extended engagements.
- The X-58 Void Apex Attachment is a strong unlock that adds even more recoil control โ well worth grinding to level 53.
The X-58 NYX is not the loudest gun in MW4 โ literally. It is internally suppressed right out of the box, which means you are already off the minimap before you even touch the gunsmith. What makes it special is how naturally it handles. Low recoil, tight movement, a steady rhythm. It does not need heavy attachments to feel good. It just needs the right ones to feel great. Here is the full build.
X-58 NYX Overview: What Kind of Gun Is It?
The X-58 NYX is a submachine gun in MW4 that fires 5.8x21mm subsonic rounds. Its description sums it up well โ an integrally suppressed SMG with high impact, very low recoil, and a steady firing rhythm designed for stealthy operations.
That suppressor being built-in is a bigger deal than it sounds. Most SMGs need a barrel or muzzle attachment to go off the radar, which costs you a slot and usually some handling. The NYX does not. You get all five attachment slots free to focus purely on how the gun shoots and moves.
It sits in the A-Meta tier for MW4 Multiplayer, just below the top-tier ISO Nightshade and PPSh-41, but absolutely usable at a high level. In DMZ, it performs well at close range where the suppression and handling make sneaky plays much easier.
Best X-58 NYX Loadout for MW4 Multiplayer
This build is built around two things: keeping recoil flat and making the gun as fast to handle as possible. Because the NYX already has natural recoil control, you only need a couple of attachments to lock it in โ the rest go straight into speed and feel.
Multiplayer Attachments
- Barrel: LX3-V 408.94mm
- Underbarrel: FSS Fireline Grip
- Rear Grip: BOK-980
- Laser: XRK Clutch-LS
- Stock: No Stock
Why These Attachments?
The LX3-V 408.94mm barrel is the key piece. It extends your effective range slightly and adds extra recoil control on top of what the NYX already gives you. For a suppressed SMG, having some range headroom matters โ it means you are not completely useless the second someone backs up.
The FSS Fireline Grip underbarrel handles the horizontal recoil, which is where the NYX can occasionally wander at speed. It is a clean, low-cost attachment that makes your shots land tighter.
The BOK-980 rear grip is one of the more popular choices across multiple SMGs in MW4. It improves ADS speed and out-speed, which matters a lot on a gun you expect to be drawing in doorways and around corners.
The XRK Clutch-LS laser is a close-range laser that tightens hip-fire spread. In fast, reactive situations where you do not have time to ADS properly, this keeps your shots on target. It only activates when aiming down sights to charge, but the hip-fire tightening is always on.
No Stock is the final piece. It sounds counterintuitive but it works with this gun. Removing the stock boosts mobility and ADS speed significantly, and because the NYX is already so stable, you do not actually need the stock’s recoil benefits. The gun handles fine without it.
Best X-58 NYX Loadout for MW4 DMZ
DMZ fights are a different animal. AI enemies take more shots to drop, especially if they are armoured. You also might run into other squads mid-engagement. The NYX needs some adjustments for that context.
DMZ Attachments
- Barrel: LX3-V 408.94mm
- Underbarrel: FSS TAC90 Grip
- Magazine: 60 Round Mag
- Rear Grip: BOK-980
- Stock: Mugi Hul-73.M Stock
What Changes and Why
The 60 Round Mag is the biggest change. In DMZ you will regularly be fighting multiple AI enemies in tight spaces โ and armoured enemies simply take more bullets. Running out of ammo mid-fight is a real problem with smaller mags. The 60 rounds keeps you in the fight without swapping to a secondary.
The Mugi Hul-73.M Stock replaces No Stock because DMZ engagements tend to be slightly longer and more deliberate. The light stock gives you back some stability without tanking your movement speed.
The FSS TAC90 Grip is a solid angled underbarrel that handles the horizontal spread well. It is slightly different from the Fireline Grip but performs a similar role โ keeping horizontal movement controlled during sustained fire, which is more relevant in DMZ fights.
If you are looking for the right weapons to pair with the NYX in DMZ, a long-range rifle is the move. The Kastov 762 pairs cleanly โ it covers distances the NYX cannot, and the NYX handles everything up close. For variety, check the Patriot XMR as another long-range option.
X-58 NYX Apex Attachment: Is the X-58 Void Worth It?
The X-58 Void is the Apex Attachment for the NYX, unlocked at weapon level 53. It is a significant unlock.
The Void slashes horizontal recoil by 49% and reduces vertical gun kick by 11%. Those are big numbers. The trade-offs are a 36% increase in vertical recoil and an 11% drop in fire rate โ but at the range the NYX operates, vertical recoil is easier to manage, and the fire rate drop barely affects the gun’s rhythm.
The result is a laser-accurate SMG that sits nearly perfectly still during sustained fire. If you are grinding the NYX to high levels anyway, the Void makes it genuinely special โ and it ranks as an Absolute Meta Apex Attachment build in current MW4 multiplayer rankings.
For the Apex build specifically, players run: No Stock, FSS Fireline Grip, BOK-980, XRK Clutch-LS, and X-58 Void. Check out the full MW4 Apex attachments guide for more on how Apex unlocks work.
Best Class Setup for the X-58 NYX in MW4 Multiplayer
The NYX is a suppressed run-and-gun SMG. Your class should support that โ fast movement, off the radar, ready for close-range chaos.
Perks
- Perk 1: Ghost โ stays off UAVs, which matters a lot when you are already suppressed and playing stealthy.
- Perk 2: Ninja โ quiets your footsteps so enemies cannot hear you push. Pairs naturally with a suppressed gun.
- Perk 3: Battle Hardened โ reduces the effect of enemy flash and stun grenades. Keeps you moving when someone throws utility at a chokepoint.
For more perk options and rankings, check out the MW4 best perks tier list โ some perks suit the NYX’s aggressive playstyle better than others depending on the map.
Equipment
- Lethal: Semtex Grenade โ good for sticking to surfaces and flushing campers out of positions.
- Tactical: Concussion Grenade โ stuns enemies before you push, which gives you the edge in close-range entry.
Field Upgrade
- Field Upgrade: Trophy System โ blocks incoming grenades near objectives. Useful when you are holding a point with an SMG.
Secondary Weapon
- Secondary: Sang 9mm โ a reliable pistol backup that does not slow you down. Light, fast to switch to, and useful when you need a quick reload skip in close-range fights.
If you want a different secondary feel, see the VEL 46 loadout โ some players actually run two SMGs and use the NYX as the primary close-range tool while keeping the VEL 46 for mid-range insurance.
Best Maps for the X-58 NYX
The NYX performs best anywhere with close and mid-range sightlines. Wide-open maps with long corridors are where it struggles most โ the suppressor helps you stay hidden, but you are still limited by the gun’s effective range.
Smaller maps and tight-layout maps suit it perfectly. The suppression means you never give yourself away on the minimap, which lets you rotate and reposition without being tracked. Check the full MW4 multiplayer maps list and the all multiplayer modes guide to find where your playstyle fits best.
X-58 NYX Tips: How to Play It Well
- Use the suppressor for soft flanks. You are never appearing on the minimap when you fire. Use that. Cut around the outside of fights and hit enemies from unexpected angles rather than running straight into them.
- Do not try to win long-range fights. The NYX is not a long-range weapon. If you see someone at distance, either close the gap or disengage. Forcing shots at range will lose you gunfights you should not even be in.
- Hipfire is a real option. The XRK Clutch-LS laser tightens hipfire spread significantly. In very close-range situations โ like doorways or after a melee โ hipfiring is completely viable. You do not always need to ADS.
- Move between kills. The NYX is built for mobility. After you get a kill, reposition before the enemy team adjusts. Your suppressor means they do not know exactly where you fired from โ use that window.
- Visual recoil can be deceptive. The NYX kicks slightly more than it looks on screen. If you are struggling with shots walking off target, check the visual recoil reduction guide for MW4 โ a few settings adjustments can clean up what you see significantly.
