The Altar of Solitude is the sixth puzzle in the Path of Providence Abyss chain in Crimson Desert. It comes right after the Courtyard of Precision and, like every room in this chain, rewards you with an Abyss Artifact on completion. The puzzle isn’t hard once you understand the system — but the rotating platforms and underground sections catch a lot of players off guard because the game doesn’t explain the mechanic clearly.
This guide breaks every step down so you can get through it without getting stuck.
How to Reach the Altar of Solitude
The Altar of Solitude is part of the Path of Providence Abyss cluster. It is not accessible as a standalone location — you have to work through the chain in order.
The full path is: Spire of Stars → Sanctorum of Insight → Secret Garden → Vault of Vengeance → Courtyard of Precision → Altar of Solitude
To access this chain at all, you need to have completed the Obsession and Madness quest, which unlocks during Chapter 4. This also means you need to have cleared the Spire of Stars puzzle first, since the entire Path of Providence chain flows out from it. Once you complete the Courtyard of Precision, use its Skybridge to travel directly to the Altar of Solitude.
Getting to the Puzzle Area
After arriving via the Skybridge, you’ll travel across a series of floating platforms to reach the main Abyss Nexus. Activate it as you pass — it sets your checkpoint and unlocks the fast travel node for this area.
Watch your footing on the approach. Some platforms look broken and will begin to drop the moment you land on them. Jump across quickly on those and don’t stop moving. A large round moving platform will carry you into the main puzzle room. Step on, ride it through, then jump forward once it delivers you to the other side.
From there, walk ahead to the Abyss Nexus. The main puzzle area is right in front of you.
Understanding the Puzzle
When you arrive, you’ll see two large metal platforms — one on the left, one on the right — each with two slots (sockets) on them for flat power panels. There’s also an energy cube sitting on a pedestal in the middle area.
The goal is to fill all four sockets — two on each platform — with flat power panels. When all four slots are full, the energy cube activates both platforms simultaneously and a large circular button rises from the ground. You Force Palm the button to complete the puzzle.
The problem is you only start with two panels visible. The other two are hidden underground, which you access by using the rotating platform mechanic.
Two tools you’ll use throughout: Axiom Force (hold L3 / Right Stick) to grab and carry panels and the energy cube, and Force Palm to lock panels into sockets and hit final switches.
Step-by-Step Solution
Step 1 — Place the floating panel in the left socket
Look to your left when you arrive at the Abyss Nexus. You’ll see one flat power panel floating in the air. Use Axiom Force to grab it and carry it over to the left metal platform. Lower it into the empty socket and use a downward Force Palm to lock it firmly in place.
Step 2 — Place the energy cube on the stone pedestal
The energy cube is sitting nearby. Use Axiom Force to pick it up and move it onto the stone block/pedestal in the middle of the two platforms. This is what powers the rotating mechanic. Placing the cube here will cause the left platform to spin and flip over.
Step 3 — Drop into the underground area immediately
As the left platform flips, a gap opens up below it. You need to jump through this gap quickly before it closes. Don’t hesitate — move the moment the platform starts rotating. Drop down into the underground area below.
If you miss the timing, don’t worry. Move the energy cube away from the pedestal to reset the platform, then place it back to flip it again and try once more.
Step 4 — Find the third panel underground
Once you’re underground, head toward the far wall. Look through the wall crack — you’ll see a flat power panel sitting on the other side. Use Axiom Force to grab it through the crack and pull it toward you. You’ll need to guide it through a gap in the wall to get it out. Use the D-Pad to rotate the panel if it’s getting stuck in the gap — angle it so it fits through cleanly.
Once it’s free, push it close to the rotating platform mechanism above you. Position it near the “ceiling” of the underground area, as close to the edge as possible. When the platform spins again, it will carry the panel up with it to the top level.
Step 5 — Use the teleporter to return above ground
There’s a teleporter in the underground area. Use it to get back up to the Abyss Nexus level quickly.
Step 6 — Remove the energy cube to reset the platform
Back above ground, push the energy cube away from the stone pedestal. The left platform will spin back again — and this time it will bring the third panel with it, flipping it up to your level.
Step 7 — Place the third panel in the middle socket
Once the platform finishes flipping, grab the panel it brought up and place it in the middle socket. At this point you have three panels placed.
Step 8 — Move both left-platform panels to the right platform
Take the two panels currently in the left platform’s sockets and move them over to the right platform, filling its two sockets. The left platform should now be empty.
Step 9 — Activate the right platform to get the fourth panel
Place the energy cube back on the stone pedestal. This time, the right platform will spin and flip. Drop down into the underground area again through the gap it creates.
In the newly accessible room, you’ll find the fourth and final panel. Grab it with Axiom Force. Move it to the ceiling position near the rotating mechanism, just like you did before.
Step 10 — Return above ground and collect the fourth panel
Use the teleporter to get back up. Remove the energy cube from the pedestal to flip the right platform back. It will bring the fourth panel up to the top level with it.
Step 11 — Fill all four sockets
Now you have all four panels. Distribute them so that each platform has two — two sockets on the left, two on the right. All four platforms should be fully loaded.
When placing panels, use the analog stick to rotate until you feel a vibration or see the panel snap toward the socket, then use Force Palm downward to lock it in. Don’t try to force it with a straight pull — the rotation step is what gets it to seat properly.
Step 12 — Activate both platforms with the energy cube
With all four sockets filled, place the energy cube back on the stone pedestal one final time. Both platforms will rotate simultaneously. A large circular button rises from the ground below.
Step 13 — Force Palm the button
Walk over to the circular button and use Force Palm on it. A short activation sequence plays. The Altar of Solitude is restored. The Abyss Artifact is now yours to collect.
Bonus Chest — Faded Abyss Fragment and Haste 2
Before you leave, there’s a hidden chest worth grabbing. Look toward the back right corner of the area, near the Skybridge gate. You’ll spot a chest sitting behind a set of laser beams blocking the entrance.
Nearby there are movable stone blocks. Use Axiom Force to pick them up and place them directly in front of the laser emitters to block the beams on both sides. Once both lasers are blocked, you can safely walk in and open the chest. Inside you’ll find a Faded Abyss Fragment and Haste 2 Abyss Gear. Faded Abyss Fragments are rare — they let you respec your skill points, which makes this chest genuinely valuable. Don’t skip it.
Known Bug — Energy Cube Freezes
Some players have run into a bug after saving and reloading during this puzzle. The energy cube turns into an immovable object and Axiom Force stops working on it.
The fix is to use Lightning Surge instead. Lightning Surge is in your skill tree (unlocked in the Health tree) and is activated with R2 + Circle (PlayStation) or RT + B (Xbox). Use it near the cube — it delivers an electric charge that activates the cube manually. You can then proceed through all remaining steps the same way. What Comes After
Once the Altar of Solitude is done, the Skybridge at the end of the area connects to the Ice Cradle — the seventh and final puzzle in the Path of Providence chain. Before crossing it, look to the right side of the Skybridge. There’s a shard of ice that looks slightly different from the others. Hit it to break it open and loot the hidden chest inside, which contains Haste 3 Abyss Gear.
The Ice Cradle puzzle uses a completely different mechanic — a musical memory sequence — so it’s a very different challenge from everything in this chain so far.
