TL;DR
- Abyssal Rays is an Abyss Gear (weapon socket item) that fires laser beams after specific Light Attacks
- Buy it for around 40 Silver from the Back Alley Shop on the southeastern exterior wall of Demeniss City
- Can also be crafted at any Witch using the Gear Blueprint: Abyssal Rays and required materials
- Requires Nature Level 2 to use
- Triggers after the final hit of your Light Attack chain, Aerial Light Attack, Dodge into Light Attack, or Perfect Dodge into Light Attack
- Strongest in dual-wield builds — Light Attacks cost no Stamina, so you can spam triggers freely
Abyssal Rays is one of the most fun Abyss Gears in Crimson Desert. Instead of just adding a flat stat boost, it actively changes how your attacks feel — landing the right inputs fires volleys of laser beams at your target, adding burst damage on top of your normal combo. If you’re running a Light Attack-heavy build, this is one of the first Abyss Gears you should go out of your way to grab.
What Is Abyssal Rays?
Abyssal Rays is an Abyss Gear item that slots into a weapon socket. It draws power from the Abyss to summon and fire damaging rays of light after specific Light Attack inputs. Unlike most passive stat gears, this one has an active trigger — meaning you have to play in a specific way to keep it firing.
Trigger conditions:
- Final hit of your standard Light Attack chain
- Aerial Light Attack (jump into attack)
- Dodge roll into Light Attack
- Perfect dodge into Light Attack
Skill requirement: Nature Level 2 must be unlocked before the gear activates. Make sure you’ve invested the Abyss Artifacts into that skill tree before equipping this. For help with skills, check our best skills to level up first guide.
The Gear Blueprint is called Gear Blueprint: Abyssal Rays and unlocks the crafting recipe at any Witch once acquired.

Method 1 – Buy From the Back Alley Shop Near Demeniss
The fastest way to get Abyssal Rays is to simply buy it. No grinding, no crafting materials — just 40 Silver and a short ride to Demeniss.
Location: Head to the southeastern edge of Demeniss City. Look for the Back Alley Shop set up along the exterior of the southeastern wall, tucked next to some rocks near where the city walls bend inward. The vendor runs a small black market operation right outside the city walls.
The shop sells Abyssal Rays for approximately 40 Silver. That’s a reasonable price for how strong the gear is, especially if you’re picking it up in the early-to-mid game.
Important note about Demeniss: If you haven’t completed Chapter 8 of the main story yet, Demeniss will be full of hostile soldiers who attack on sight. You don’t need to fight them to reach the back alley vendor. Ignore the soldiers, avoid the main roads, and hug the exterior of the southeastern wall to reach the shop without engaging. The vendor is outside the city walls so you don’t have to push through the main garrison to reach him.
If you need silver quickly: The Demeniss Wildlife Park southwest of the city has a large number of nobles, and they carry a small chance of having a full Gold Bar in their pockets. Pickpocket them, then exchange the Gold Bars at any bank for 500 Silver each. That’s more than enough for a few trips to the vendor. See our how to pickpocket guide and how to get gold bars guide for more detail.
Method 2 – Craft It at a Witch
If you have the Gear Blueprint: Abyssal Rays, you can craft Abyssal Rays at any Witch who offers crafting services. Elowen (available from Chapter 5 onward at the Witchwoods) and the other advanced Witches all support this. Sylvia only offers basic services — go to Elowen or another full-service Witch for crafting.
To craft it: interact with the Witch, select Craft Abyss Gear, find the Abyssal Rays recipe in your blueprint list, and supply the required materials. Abyss Cells are always part of the crafting cost alongside other specific ingredients.
If you don’t have the blueprint yet but have duplicate Abyss Gears sitting in your inventory, Special Synthesis is another option. This combines two gears for a randomized result. It’s not targeted, so you can’t guarantee Abyssal Rays from it, but if you have duplicates you’re not using, it’s worth a few rolls.

How to Equip Abyssal Rays
You cannot equip Abyss Gear directly from your inventory. The Witch system handles all embedding and removal. Here’s the process:
Step 1 – Create a Socket
Visit any Witch and select Create Socket. Choose the weapon you want to socket Abyssal Rays into. Socket creation costs Silver and increases with each additional slot unlocked. Plan ahead — don’t unlock sockets on a weapon you’re planning to replace soon.
Step 2 – Embed Abyssal Rays
With an open socket on your weapon, select Embed Abyss Gear from the Witch’s menu. Choose Abyssal Rays from your inventory and confirm. The gear is now active on that weapon.
Step 3 – Remove If Needed
You can extract embedded Abyss Gears at any time via the Extract Abyss Gear option. Removal is free, so don’t hesitate to experiment. Note that lower-tier gears have a small chance of being destroyed on extraction, so be aware of that risk before pulling out something hard to replace.
For more on managing your gear loadout, see our how to upgrade weapons and armor guide and how to reinforce equipment guide.
How to Use Abyssal Rays Effectively
Once embedded, Abyssal Rays fires automatically when you hit the correct inputs. You don’t need to press anything extra — the trigger is built into your normal attack flow. The key is understanding which inputs activate it and building your combat rhythm around them.
The final hit of your Light Attack chain is the most reliable trigger. In normal play, you’re already landing this constantly. Dodge into Light Attack and Perfect Dodge into Light Attack are more situational but add extra trigger windows when you’re weaving in and out of enemy attacks.
The laser beams deal solid damage and target whatever enemy you’re locked onto, making them effective at both clearing mobs and adding consistent boss DPS.
One important requirement to check before relying on this gear in a fight: Nature Level 2 must be active on your skill tree. If the gear isn’t firing, this is the most likely reason. Invest your Abyss Artifacts into the Nature tree to meet the requirement.
Best Builds for Abyssal Rays
Abyssal Rays is at its best in Light Attack-focused and dual-wield builds. Here’s why: Light Attacks cost no Stamina. That means you can chain them continuously without worrying about your meter draining. Abyss Gears that trigger off Heavy Attacks are limited by Stamina consumption — you’ll tire out before getting full value. With Abyssal Rays, you can spam Light Attacks and keep the laser beams firing without running out of resources.
Dual-wield builds are particularly strong with this gear. Running two weapons means more Light Attack opportunities per second, which means more Abyssal Rays triggers per fight. The damage compounds quickly against bosses and tough elites that you’re trading blows with over an extended engagement.
Good weapon options for this setup include any one-handed swords with multiple Abyss Gear slots. Check our guides on the Nazk Sword, Fallen Kingdom Rapier, and Darkbringer Sword for strong one-handed options that work well as bases for this build.

Tips Before You Go
Farm extra Silver before the trip if you’re early in the game. 40 Silver can feel like a lot in the first few chapters. Looting bandit camps, selling excess gear, and completing side quests all help. Our how to get small batteries guide and how to make money fast guide cover reliable income methods.
Don’t try to fight your way into Demeniss before Chapter 8. The hostile soldiers hit hard and attacking them causes reputation penalties. The back alley vendor is on the exterior wall, so you can reach him without entering the city itself.
Check your inventory before buying. If you already grabbed Abyssal Rays from a chest or enemy drop earlier, you don’t need to buy another. Check your Abyss Gear section before spending silver.
Pair with other Light Attack Abyss Gears. Abyssal Rays gets stronger when your other sockets also proc off Light Attack conditions. Stack compatible gears for a fully Light Attack-driven damage chain rather than mixing trigger types across your sockets.
