How to Get the Gyrfalcon & Eagle Pets in Crimson Desert

Gyrfalcon and Eagle pets in Crimson Desert spawn on the cliff near the Spire of Ringing Truth in west Pailune between 5 PM and 11 PM — here's the full taming guide with favorite food and Sotdae setup.

The Gyrfalcon and Eagle are bird-of-prey pets in Crimson Desert. Both share the same spawn location in western Pailune and can be tamed using the Sotdae of Bond bird feeder. They look different and eat different favorite foods, but the process for getting either one is the same. This guide covers where to find them, what to feed them, how to set up the Sotdae of Bond, and how to tame them as fast as possible.

TL;DR

  • Both birds spawn on the cliff by the Spire of Ringing Truth in western Pailune — just west of the “P” in “Pailune” on the map.
  • Spawn window is 5 PM to 11 PM in-game time. Arrive by midday to set up early.
  • You need the Sotdae of Bond (bird feeder) before you can tame any bird. You cannot feed birds without it.
  • Gyrfalcon favorite food: Marbled Meat (+35 Trust per feeding).
  • Eagle favorite food: Lean Meat (+35 Trust per feeding).
  • Both are available from the Butcher in Hernand Town.
  • You need 100 Trust to adopt either bird. Press Square (PS) / X (Xbox) to take it in.
  • If the wrong bird lands, shoot it off the feeder to clear the spot. You may need to reposition the Sotdae afterward as it attracts flies.
  • Bird taming requires patience — landing is not guaranteed on every attempt.

What Are the Gyrfalcon and Eagle

The Gyrfalcon and Eagle are both birds of prey and act as pet companions in Crimson Desert. Like all pets, they follow you through Pywel and automatically loot items from enemy corpses after combat. They do not attack enemies — their job is auto-looting.

Birds behave slightly differently from dogs and cats. They perch on Kliff’s arm when you stand still, similar to how cats sit on his shoulder. They also despawn less often than ground pets because they fly over terrain obstacles rather than getting stuck on geometry. Birds cannot wear pet armor from tailor shops, but they do have accessory and collar slots.

The Gyrfalcon is described as a bird of prey that ends its enemies’ lives with elegance. It features black feathers at the tips of its wings and a banded tail pattern. The Eagle builds the largest nests, mates for life, and inhabits all of Pywel except Delesyia. The differences between the two are purely visual — both function identically as auto-looting companions.

Step 1 — Get the Sotdae of Bond First

You cannot tame any bird in Crimson Desert without the Sotdae of Bond. It is the bird feeder used to attract and feed wild birds. You cannot buy it from a shop or craft it — it is a quest reward.

How to Get the Sotdae of Bond

You get it by completing the Authorized Access section of the Trembling Woods faction quest for the Pororin Forest Guardians. Here is the full process:

  • Travel to Florindale, located southeast of the Hernand Highlands, near the Unicorn Cliffs.
  • Try to walk into Pororin Village. The Shai guardians will sleep-dart you and knock you out. You will wake up outside.
  • Return and attempt to enter two more times. After the third knockout, a Shai named Arkin will appear and speak to you.
  • Arkin sends you to Trembling Gorge to retrieve the Pororin Relic from a giant walking Ent (tree creature). The Ent moves clockwise — approach from the opposite direction to reach its head faster.
  • Return the relic to Arkin. This completes Authorized Access, unlocks Florindale permanently, and gives you the Sotdae of Bond.

If you already completed the Trembling Woods quest before bird pets were added to the game, check your Private Storage chest at Howling Hill camp — the Sotdae was added there automatically. If it is missing, go to Carl at Greymane Camp, select Recover Items, and buy it back for 1 Silver.

Step 2 — Get the Right Food

The Gyrfalcon and Eagle have different favorite foods. Load the correct one into your Sotdae before heading to Pailune.

  • Gyrfalcon: Marbled Meat — gives +35 Trust per feeding.
  • Eagle: Lean Meat — gives +35 Trust per feeding.

Both meats can be bought from the Butcher in Hernand Town and from other Butcher vendors across Pywel. Buy enough for multiple feeding sessions before leaving for Pailune — you want to reach 100 Trust in as few visits as possible. You can feed a bird up to three times per in-game day. The daily limit resets at midnight in-game time.

The Sotdae of Bond has a large capacity and holds food between sessions, so you do not need to refill it every time you visit.

Step 3 — Go to the Spawn Location

The Gyrfalcon and Eagle both spawn on the cliff near the Spire of Ringing Truth in the west region of Pailune. On the map, look just west of the “P” in “Pailune.” The secondary spawn point confirmed by players is just north of the Spire of Ringing Truth, next to the Abyss Nexus — this is the most consistent location currently.

The spawn window is 5 PM to 11 PM in-game time. Arrive at the cliff by around midday (11 AM to 12 PM) to place the Sotdae and fill it well before the birds appear.

How to Place the Sotdae of Bond

  • Select the Sotdae of Bond in your inventory.
  • Hold L1 / LB to aim placement, then press Triangle / Y to set it down. On PC: hold Ctrl and press R.
  • The placement circle turns blue when the ground is valid. Place it on the cliff edge — elevated terrain is more effective for large birds of prey than flat ground.
  • Interact with the Sotdae to load your food (Marbled Meat for Gyrfalcon, Lean Meat for Eagle).
  • Step back and wait. Do not stand too close — stay a few metres away so the bird is not frightened off by your presence.

Step 4 — Tame the Bird

Once a bird lands on the Sotdae and begins eating, the Trust meter starts filling. Each feeding with favourite food gives +35 Trust. You need 100 Trust to adopt the bird.

Key things to know during the taming process:

  • Wrong bird landed? Shoot it off the feeder with a ranged weapon. The bird will leave and the feeder may attract flies — reposition the Sotdae to clear it and try again.
  • Enemies nearby? Clear them first. If there are aggroed enemies close to the feeder, the bird will stay in the sky and not land.
  • Bird did not appear during the spawn window? Fast travel away via the Abyss Nexus to reset the area, then return during the next 5 PM to 11 PM window.
  • Trust is per individual animal. If the bird despawns mid-taming, it retains its Trust counter when it respawns. Return to the same spot and continue feeding.

Once Trust reaches 100, approach the bird and press Square (PS) / X (Xbox) to take it in as your pet. It is then saved to your collection and can be summoned any time from the radial menu.

Gyrfalcon vs Eagle — Differences at a Glance

  • Gyrfalcon: Black-tipped wings, banded tail pattern. Favorite food: Marbled Meat. Described as an elegant predator.
  • Eagle: Larger build, classic eagle appearance. Favorite food: Lean Meat. Found across all of Pywel except Delesyia.
  • Function: Identical — both auto-loot after combat and perch on Kliff’s arm when idle.
  • Spawn location: Same cliff near the Spire of Ringing Truth, western Pailune.

The choice between the two is purely cosmetic. Pick whichever look you prefer or tame both to add them to your 30-pet collection.

Tips for Taming the Gyrfalcon and Eagle

  • Arrive early. Head to the cliff by midday so your Sotdae is placed and loaded well before the 5 PM spawn window. Last-minute setup often means missing the first cycle.
  • Use only favourite food. Marbled Meat for Gyrfalcon and Lean Meat for Eagle both give +35 Trust. Other meats give lower amounts and slow you down. Stick to the best food from the start.
  • Be patient. Landing is not guaranteed on every attempt. Some players wait through two or three spawn windows before a specific bird appears. This is normal.
  • Keep the area clear of enemies. Aggroed enemies scare birds away. Clear the cliff before placing the feeder.
  • Pick up your Sotdae when done. Hold L1 / Ctrl while facing it to bring up the pickup option. Do not leave it behind — it is not replaceable without paying Carl 1 Silver.
  • Only one active pet at a time. If you already have a dog or cat summoned, unsummon it from the Pet Inventory Tab before calling your bird. You cannot have two active pets simultaneously.
  • For players still working on unlocking Pailune — progressing through the main story to access the region is essential before you can farm materials or visit vendors there. Our guide on how to get Palmar Leaf also covers the Leroy vendor at Pailune Castle and is worth checking once you reach Chapter 7.
  • Already have dogs or cats in your collection? See our guides on Husky locations and favorite food and how to get the Jindo (Shiba Inu dog) in Hernand Town.
