007 First Light: How to Challenge Greenway to a Game of Pool (Blackball)

How to challenge Greenway to a game of pool in 007 First Light — find the pool room during Knightfall, hack the door, get Greenway inside, and interact with the cues to complete Blackball.

How to challenge Greenway to a game of pool in 007 First Light is one of the easiest challenges in the Knightfall mission to walk straight past. The Blackball challenge requires a specific detour through a locked side room — and the game gives you no indication it is there. Here is exactly where to go and what to do.

TL;DR

  • The Blackball challenge is in the Knightfall mission on the executive 2nd floor of Webb Industries.
  • After speaking with Greenway near the bar area, vault over the railing instead of heading upstairs.
  • Hack the locked door on the left with the Q-Watch to open it from Bond’s side.
  • Get Greenway to open the door for you from the other side.
  • Head inside the room with the pool table and interact with the rack of cues and balls on the wall.
  • Greenway refuses to play, but the Blackball challenge completes the moment you interact with the rack.
  • There is also a collectible playing card inside the pool room — grab it before you leave.

What Is the Blackball Challenge?

The Blackball challenge in 007 First Light requires players to challenge Greenway to a game of pool. While James and Greenway do not actually play pool together like a mini-game, there is a pool rack in one of the offices on the executive 2nd floor that you can interact with to complete the challenge. It is a funny little interaction that can be easily missed if you are not exploring each room.

The challenge called Blackball asks players to challenge Greenway to a game of pool, but the game does not clearly explain where to go or what actions are required to trigger it. Because of that, many players walk past the opportunity without even realising it exists.

When Does This Come Up in Knightfall?

To challenge Greenway to a pool game, players will first need to reach the executive 2nd floor of the Webb Industries building during the Knightfall chapter of 007 First Light. Once you help Greenway go through the East Wing door, wait around a bit until he rests on the railing and asks James to join him, calling it a tactical pause.

This comes directly after the High Ground vent section covered in our how to take the vent to open the door for Greenway guide. Once Greenway is through the east wing door and the two agents regroup, the Blackball opportunity opens up. Do not rush forward to the next stealth section — the pool room is right here in this area and it is easy to miss if you head straight for the main objective.

Step 1 — Speak to Greenway at the Bar Area

Follow Greenway until he stops near two waterfalls. Strike up a conversation and ask him all the questions you can. If you exhaust all dialogue before ending the conversation, the Tactical Pause challenge will also unlock.

It is worth completing the full conversation here before moving on. You will get two challenges from this area if you do it right — Tactical Pause for exhausting all dialogue options, and Blackball for the pool room. Both can be done on the same run without any conflict.

Step 2 — Vault Over the Railing at the Bar

After speaking with Greenway, vault over the railing at the bar area. Instead of climbing up to the executive 2nd floor encounter, hack the door on the left and get Greenway to open it for you from the other side.

Once you reach the other side, you can either move forward and jump over the wall to progress through the mission. However, doing this will lock you out of completing the Blackball challenge. Instead, go left, and you will come across a locked door to a room with a pool table inside.

The locked door is visible through the glass. The pool table and cues inside are a clear visual cue that this is the room you need. Do not climb up to the executive floor yet — do the pool room first.

Step 3 — Hack the Door and Get Greenway to Open It

Use the Q-Watch to hack the door on the other side to let Greenway inside, allowing him to unlock the door for James.

The door sensor is visible through the glass panel next to the door. Use Q-Lens to highlight it if you cannot find the exact hacking point. Once Bond hacks it from his side, Greenway will walk around and open the door so Bond can enter the room.

Step 4 — Interact With the Pool Cue Rack

Inside the room with the pool table, all you need to do is interact with the rack with cues and balls. This will prompt James to challenge Greenway to a pool game, leading to a fun interaction.

Interact with the stand to invite Greenway to play a game. Despite his refusal, the Blackball challenge will be completed. Greenway turns Bond down flat, which is the kind of deadpan spy humour that makes the whole interaction worth doing. The challenge pops the moment you make the offer, regardless of his answer.

Bonus — Collectible Playing Card in the Pool Room

There is a collectible hiding in this room. Inside the room lies a collectible playing card. Grab it before heading back out to continue the mission. Do not leave the pool room without it. For every card location across the whole game, see our all playing cards locations guide.

Can You Miss the Blackball Challenge?

Yes, very easily. It is a funny little interaction that can be easily missed if you are not exploring each room. If you vault straight over the wall and head into the executive 2nd floor stealth section without going left first, the pool room opportunity is gone for that run.

The good news is that you can return via Chapter Select. Use the checkpoint system to come back to this exact section of Knightfall and complete the detour without replaying the whole mission. Our how to replay missions guide explains how to do this quickly.

What Comes After the Pool Room?

Once you have got the Blackball challenge done and collected the playing card, head back out and proceed toward the executive 2nd floor stealth encounter. Before entering the first stealth section, look to the left and you will see a door you can hack. From this point the mission moves into the data centre, the penthouse, and eventually the escape to the Perch.

The Knightfall mission has 23 challenges in total and several of them are tied to specific interactions and side rooms just like this one. Here are the most relevant guides for what comes next:

Tips for the Blackball Challenge

  • Do the pool room before going upstairs. Once you vault over the wall and climb up into the executive floor encounter, you cannot come back to the pool room in the same run.
  • Exhaust all of Greenway’s dialogue first. The Tactical Pause challenge and the Blackball challenge can both be earned in the same pass through this area. Talk to Greenway fully before heading left for the pool room.
  • Grab the playing card inside the room. It is on the table next to the pool table. Do not leave without it.
  • No gadgets are needed beyond the Q-Watch. The hack on the door sensor is a standard Q-Watch interaction. Just make sure your battery is not empty before you try to hack the door.
