How to Get the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow in Crimson Desert

Find the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow in Crimson Desert. Step-by-step guide to the Pailune Ancestors' Ruins location, all trap sections, full weapon stats, and best builds for this hidden bow with 5 Abyss Gear slots.

TL;DR

  • The Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow is hidden inside Pailune Ancestors’ Ruins, north of Silver Wolf Mountain in Pailune
  • Look for a rectangular cobblestone opening flush with the ground in a forest clearing — drop down the ladder to enter
  • Navigate three trap sections: collapsing floor, buzzsaw corridor, and four swinging-brazier pillars
  • No boss fight — just reach the final chamber and pick up the bow
  • Starts at Refinement Level 3 with 19 base Attack and comes with 5 Abyss Gear slots (3 pre-filled)
  • Pre-filled slots: Attack 2, Critical Rate 1, Health Siphon Level 1 (life steal on every hit)
  • Fast travel out after grabbing it — don’t backtrack through the traps

Most players ride straight through northern Pailune without ever noticing the Pailune Ancestors’ Ruins. The entrance blends into the forest floor, the game gives no marker pointing to it, and nothing directs you there from any quest. What’s inside is one of the better bows in the game — pre-loaded with three Abyss Gears including a life steal passive, and it arrives already at Refinement Level 3. If you’re building a ranged character or want a bow with real sustain, this is the one to go after.

What Is the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow?

The Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow is a legendary-tier ranged weapon found through exploration in Pailune. It is not tied to any quest, vendor, or crafting recipe — it must be physically discovered and looted from the ruins.

Full stats:

  • Type: Bow
  • Base Attack: 19 (starts at Refinement Level 3)
  • Fully upgraded Attack: 35
  • Critical Rate: Level 1 (at full upgrade: Level 4 with refinement)
  • Abyss Gear Slots: 5 total (3 pre-filled on pickup, 2 open)
  • Pre-filled Abyss Gears: Attack 2, Critical Rate 1, Health Siphon Level 1

The five Abyss Gear slots are the standout feature. Bows in Crimson Desert benefit more from socket depth than raw base Attack, and having five slots — with three already active — puts this well ahead of most bows available at the same point in the game. The Health Siphon passive is what most players will notice most in actual combat: every hit returns a portion of health, which lets you stay in prolonged fights without burning through food or Palmar Pills. Against groups of enemies the healing stacks noticeably across multiple arrows.

The two remaining open slots give you room to customize further. Destruction, Gale, or additional Critical Rate Abyss Gears are all strong choices depending on your build. For the full Abyss system breakdown, see our Abyss Gears list and unlock Witches Abyss Gears guide.

Where Is the Pailune Ancestors’ Ruins?

The ruins are located in the northern part of Pailune, past the Silver Wolf Mountains. More precisely, look for the area north of the first “I” in Silver Wolf Mountain on your map, or align your cursor above the letter “I” in the word “Pailune” on the map view.

Fast travel tip: The Silver Wolf Mountain fast travel point near the summit is the closest Abyss Nexus. From there, head east until you are roughly parallel with the first “I” in Silver Wolf Mountain on the map. Then look for a small forest clearing where the tree cover breaks slightly.

Finding the entrance: In that clearing, search the ground for a rectangular cobblestone opening sitting flush with the ground. It’s disguised by moss and natural rock textures — easy to walk past if you’re not looking carefully. There is also a covered well in this area near the Longleaf Shade Hideout that players sometimes reference as a landmark. The entrance has a ladder. Drop down to enter the Pailune Ancestors’ Ruins.

How to Get Through the Ruins

The dungeon has three consecutive trap sections. None require frame-perfect timing — they all reward patience over speed. Take each section slowly and watch the patterns before moving.

Trap 1 – Collapsing Floor

The moment you reach the bottom of the ladder, hug the right side of the room. The floor in the center of the first chamber is unstable and will collapse under your weight, dropping you into lava below. Do not step through the middle. Follow the right-side path along the wall to reach a long staircase descending deeper into the ruin.

At the bottom of the staircase, wait at the door. Kliff opens it automatically — don’t force it or try to interact with it early.

Trap 2 – Buzzsaw Corridor

Through the door, a row of rotating buzzsaws blocks the path. Watch the full pattern for one complete cycle before you move. The correct timing is to sprint through the gap when the saws pass the center of the corridor. Do not slow down or stop mid-run. Hesitating in the middle guarantees a hit. Keep your momentum going all the way through in one clean sprint.

Trap 3 – Four Swinging Brazier Pillars

This section trips up most players. At the end of the buzzsaw corridor, there are four pillars you need to jump across. A large brazier hangs from the ceiling and swings back and forth in front of each pillar.

Do not jump as soon as you reach the first pillar edge. Wait for the brazier to complete a full swing away from you, then make a controlled jump targeting the near edge of the pillar — not the far side. Carrying too much forward momentum drops you onto the spike traps below.

Repeat this process across all four pillars. Watch one full swing cycle before committing to each jump. The spikes below are unforgiving so patience here matters more than speed.

After the last pillar, either double-jump (jump then use Force Palm to boost yourself upward) or climb up either of the side pillars to reach the raised platform above.

The Final Chamber

When you reach the top, the door opens automatically as you arrive. Inside the final chamber, the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow rests on an altar. Walk up and interact to collect it. There is no enemy or boss in this room — just pick it up and it goes straight into your inventory.

After grabbing it: Use a nearby fast travel point to leave rather than backtracking through all three trap sections again. The Pailune Abyss Nexus points will get you out cleanly.

How to Upgrade the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow

The bow already starts at Refinement Level 3, giving it a head start over weapons you find at base refinement. Continue refining it at any Blacksmith to push the Attack and Critical Rate higher. Our how to upgrade weapons and armor guide and how to reinforce equipment guide cover everything you need.

For the two open Abyss Gear slots, visit any Witch with full crafting services — Elowen at the Witchwoods or any advanced Witch in the later regions. Create sockets if needed and embed your chosen gears. The three pre-filled slots are already active, so you don’t need to unlock those.

Best Builds for the Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow

Ranged sustain build. The Health Siphon passive makes this bow best in fights where you’re firing consistently over time. Against large groups of weaker enemies or prolonged boss phases where you need to stay at range, the healing adds up and removes your dependency on consumables. Pair it with our OP infinite arrow archer build for a self-sustaining ranged loop that never runs out of ammo.

Critical rate stacking. The bow comes with Critical Rate Level 1 pre-filled and scales to Level 4 at full upgrade. Stack additional Critical Rate through accessories — the Necklace of Lightning and White Lion Necklace are strong necklace options for crit builds. Accessories with Critical Rate are secretly doubled by the game’s mechanics, so a Level 2 necklace functions as Level 4 effectively. For the complete crit setup, check our critical rate OP boss build.

Abyss Gear customization. Use the two open slots for Destruction (flat Attack) and Gale (Attack Speed) to complement the pre-filled bonuses. For replenishing arrows that work alongside any bow build, see our guide on how to get and use replenishing arrows. If you want to push even further into the bow system, also look at the White Wood Bow first steps guide for earlier bow progression context.

Tips Before You Go

Prepare for Pailune before entering. The region is significantly harder than Hernand — enemies hit harder, the cold reduces your Stamina regeneration, and Black Bears patrols are aggressive before Chapter 7. Refine your weapons to at least Level 4 before going north, stock up on cooked food, and equip cold resistance gear. Our ice resistance and frost protection guide has the full coverage options. If you’re visiting early, also check the Chillfallen Sword guide — another Pailune weapon worth grabbing in the same trip.

The entrance is easy to miss. The cobblestone opening in the forest floor has no quest marker pointing to it. Slow down when you reach the forest clearing north of Silver Wolf Mountain and look at the ground rather than ahead. The rectangular stone frame is the giveaway.

Don’t rush the traps. All three hazard sections are slow-and-patient puzzles, not speed challenges. The buzzsaw corridor and swinging braziers in particular punish players who move too fast. Take a full cycle to observe each hazard before you commit to moving.

Golden Apples and this bow are a great combo trip. Since you’re already heading into Pailune for the bow, it’s a good time to also unlock the Gold Bar recipe at the Witch’s Hideout in the area. Our how to farm Golden Apples guide has the full farming method once the recipe is unlocked.

Check other Pailune weapons while you’re there. The Red Rage sword is also found in Pailune’s City area in a simple mineshaft chest — a strong crit one-hander worth grabbing in the same trip if you haven’t already.
