Vodyanitsa Best Build in Genshin Impact

    By Eva Roberts · October 18, 2026 · 10 min read
    Vodyanitsa Genshin Impact

    TL;DR

    • Vodyanitsa is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst support and healer in Genshin Impact added in Version 7.1.
    • Her entire kit scales off Max HP — the only stat you need to stack.
    • Hymn of the Maelstrom is her signature weapon and best-in-slot choice.
    • Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is the best free-to-play weapon for her.
    • 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith is her best artifact set.
    • Aim for around 65,000 Max HP to fully cap her damage scaling and healing output.
    • She shreds Hydro, Cryo, and Anemo RES all from a single Elemental Skill use.

Vodyanitsa is one of the most versatile supports added to Genshin Impact in Version 7.1. She is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst character who functions as a healer, buffer, and resistance shredder — all in one slot. Her entire kit runs on Max HP, so building her is simple and straightforward once you know what to prioritize.

This guide covers the best build for Vodyanitsa, including her best weapons, artifacts, stat priorities, and team compositions. Vodyanitsa is a key part of some of the strongest Stellar Swirl teams in the game, so if you are running Vesna as your main DPS, Vodyanitsa is one of the first supports you should look at building.

Vodyanitsa Overview — What Does She Do?

Vodyanitsa’s role is to sit in the backline and support the active character through her Elemental Skill. One tap of her Skill sets up everything she does:

    • Deals Hydro damage every 3 seconds off-field, applying Hydro consistently.
    • Reduces enemy Hydro and Cryo RES by up to 30% for 6 seconds on each hit.
    • Heals the active character based on her Max HP every 1.5 seconds.
    • Provides interruption resistance to the active character.

Her passive talents add even more value. When a Stellar Vortex is generated or detonated while she is in the party, nearby enemies also lose 30% Anemo RES for 6 seconds. This makes her one of very few characters who can reduce all three relevant elemental resistances — Hydro, Cryo, and Anemo — simultaneously, which is extremely useful for Vesna’s Stellar Swirl teams.

Her other passive, Dirge of the Fandyr, adds flat damage to Hydro, Cryo, and Stellar Swirl hits based on her Max HP. This bonus starts at 40,000 HP and scales all the way up to about 65,000 HP, which is your target for a fully invested Vodyanitsa.

Best Weapon for Vodyanitsa — Hymn of the Maelstrom

Hymn of the Maelstrom is Vodyanitsa’s signature 5-star Catalyst and her clear best-in-slot weapon. It has a base ATK of 542 and a secondary stat of 66.2% HP, which is one of the highest HP secondary stats on any weapon in the game. This alone makes it easy to reach the 65,000 HP target without needing to sacrifice artifact substats.

Its passive, Rondo of Slumber, increases Healing Bonus and also converts a portion of Vodyanitsa’s Max HP above 40,000 into an ATK buff for the active character on the field. This buff is boosted further when the team is using Frozen or Stellar Swirl reactions. The ATK conversion caps at around 60,000 HP, making it even easier to hit a practical HP investment goal.

Every part of this weapon is designed specifically for her. It helps her reach her HP target, improves her healing output, and provides a meaningful ATK boost to whoever is on the field — all things Vodyanitsa wants to do every rotation.

Best F2P Weapon — Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers

If you do not have Hymn of the Maelstrom, Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is Vodyanitsa’s best alternative and one of the strongest free options in the game for a support. It is a 3-star Catalyst, so you can max out its refinement easily.

At Refinement 5, it provides a 48% ATK buff to the next character you swap into after holding the weapon. Since Vodyanitsa uses her Skill and then immediately swaps out to the main DPS, this buff lands exactly where it needs to. The HP secondary stat also helps stack her Max HP, which feeds into her healing and passive scaling.

TTDS does not fall far behind Hymn of the Maelstrom in many practical team setups. If you are not planning to pull her signature weapon, this 3-star is all you need to run her effectively in any content.

    Other Weapon Options for Vodyanitsa

    Jadefall’s Splendor

Jadefall’s Splendor is a solid 5-star alternative if you have it. It has an HP secondary stat of 49.6% and a passive that restores Energy and buffs Elemental DMG, which can help Vodyanitsa use her Burst more frequently if you choose to include it in her rotation. It is not as efficient as her signature weapon but is a clear step above most other 5-star options for her.

    Everlasting Moonglow

Everlasting Moonglow is another 5-star Catalyst that works on Vodyanitsa. It has an HP secondary stat and a passive that adds Normal Attack damage based on Max HP. While Vodyanitsa rarely uses Normal Attacks in her rotation, the HP stat itself is still useful for pushing her toward the 65,000 HP threshold.

    Prototype Amber

Prototype Amber is a 4-star craftable Catalyst that gives HP as its secondary stat and restores Energy as its passive. If you are struggling to reach 100% Energy Recharge for using her Burst, this weapon can help fill that gap. It is a good middle option between TTDS and the 5-star choices.

    Vodyanitsa Weapon Priority Summary

    • Best in Slot: Hymn of the Maelstrom
    • Best 5-Star Alternative: Jadefall’s Splendor
    • Second 5-Star Alternative: Everlasting Moonglow
    • Best F2P Option: Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (R5)
    • Best Craftable Option: Prototype Amber

Best Artifact Set for Vodyanitsa — 4-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith

The 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith set is Vodyanitsa’s best artifact choice by a wide margin. The 2-piece bonus gives a flat 20% HP increase, which directly boosts her healing and all HP-based scaling. The 4-piece bonus is even better — it increases all party members’ ATK by 20% and Shield Strength by 30% for 3 seconds whenever the wearer hits an enemy with an Elemental Skill.

Because Vodyanitsa’s Elemental Skill continues hitting enemies off-field every 3 seconds, she can maintain the 4-piece Tenacity buff with very high uptime throughout the entire rotation. This means the active character is almost always benefiting from a 20% ATK boost, which makes it excellent in teams with ATK-scaling DPS characters like Vesna.

There is no close second option for general use. 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith is the standard set for Vodyanitsa in almost every team.

    Alternative Artifact Option — 2-Piece HP% Combinations

In teams where ATK is not the main scaling stat, such as teams built around Neuvillette or Mizuki, a mixed 2-piece HP% combination can work better than full Tenacity of the Millelith. The 2-piece bonus from combining two different HP% sets can approach similar HP totals, allowing her quill-based flat damage bonuses to still function well without over-investing in an ATK buff that the team does not use.

    Best Artifact Stats for Vodyanitsa

Every artifact slot should prioritize HP. Her entire kit scales from it and nothing else comes close in importance:

    • Sands: HP%
    • Goblet: HP%
    • Circlet: HP% (or Healing Bonus if you are comfortable with your HP total)
    • Substats: HP% > Flat HP > Energy Recharge (only if using her Burst)

Your HP target is around 65,000 Max HP for full scaling. At that point, her Dirge of the Fandyr passive fully caps out and adds 3,500 flat damage to Hydro and Cryo attacks, and 6,500 flat damage to Stellar Swirl hits. Even reaching 60,000 HP covers most of the practical gains. Do not sacrifice HP substats to chase other stats — none of them help Vodyanitsa’s support output.

    Talent Priority for Vodyanitsa

Always level her Elemental Skill first. This is where her RES shred, healing, and off-field Hydro application all live. Leveling the Skill increases the healing she provides and the resistance reduction percentage, both of which scale with her talent level.

Her Elemental Burst can be leveled second if you plan to use it as part of her rotation, but in most teams she does not need it. Skip leveling her Normal Attack entirely — it contributes nothing to her support role.

    Best Teams for Vodyanitsa

    Vesna Stellar Swirl Team

Vodyanitsa’s most powerful role is in Vesna’s Stellar Swirl teams. She provides Hydro application for Stellar Swirl, reduces Hydro and Cryo RES, and triggers her Anemo RES shred passive through Stellar Vortex procs. Together these effects make Vesna hit significantly harder. The most recommended setup is:

    • Vesna — On-field Anemo main DPS
    • Odette — Cryo application and off-field support
    • Cryo Traveler — Additional Cryo application and utility
    • Vodyanitsa — Healer, Hydro applicator, and RES shredder

This is widely regarded as one of Vesna’s best teams and the team that makes the most complete use of Vodyanitsa’s kit. If you want to learn more about how to equip Vesna, see our guide on the best weapons for Vesna.

    Skirk Freeze Team

Vodyanitsa is also a top pick for Skirk Freeze teams. She provides consistent off-field Hydro application to keep enemies Frozen, heals the team based on her HP, and reduces Hydro and Cryo RES so Skirk hits harder. A common setup is:

    • Skirk — Cryo main DPS
    • Furina — Hydro sub-DPS and Fanfare stacking support
    • Escoffier — Cryo RES shred and additional off-field damage
    • Vodyanitsa — Healer, Hydro applicator, and RES shredder

Vodyanitsa heals the team to keep Furina’s Fanfare stacks building, while her Hydro application combines with Skirk’s Cryo to maintain Freeze. Escoffier adds extra Cryo RES reduction on top of Vodyanitsa’s kit for even stronger output.

Cryo or Hydro DPS Support Teams

Outside of Stellar Swirl and Freeze, Vodyanitsa also slots comfortably into teams built around other Cryo or Hydro carries like Neuvillette, Kamisato Ayaka, and Wriothesley. Her Hydro and Cryo RES shred applies in any team where those elements are used for damage, making her one of the more versatile supports in the current roster.

Does Vodyanitsa Need Her Signature Weapon?

She does not need it. Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers at Refinement 5 keeps her fully functional in all content and provides a meaningful ATK buff to the main DPS. The signature weapon mainly adds more HP, improves healing output, and converts that HP into a larger ATK buff for the active character. It is a strong pull if Vodyanitsa is a key part of your main teams, but it is not required to use her well.

    Should You Pull Vodyanitsa?

Vodyanitsa is worth pulling if you run Stellar Swirl or Freeze teams and want a support who can heal, apply Hydro off-field, and reduce three elemental resistances from a single button press. She is very simple to build — just stack HP — and she fits into multiple team archetypes without needing any specific constellations. Her C0 kit already delivers her full support package.
